If the Time Capsule backs up my computer, and then I delete files from my computer, are the files still available on the time capsule?

A good backup plan means that you have an "original" copy on one drive and a "backup" on another drive.
With your plan....
When....not if....the Time Capsule fails or has a problem you will lose all of your important files.
In other workds, if you delete the files from one drive.......you have no backups.
Only the most foolhardy of users would consider this.

I just purchased a TC with the understanding that it could be used as an external drive. My MacBook is almost filled up with files and my desire was to back up using the TC, erase the files from the MacBook with them being stored on the TC as a backup that I could retrieve as necessary and thereby freeing up space on the Mac. Time Machine is a backup utility. It is not designed to be used as mechanism for storing different files that you don't want on your main drive because you are running out of space. Time Machine does keep a history of what you had on your main drive but you cannot control what it will keep. It's great for ensuring you have a copy of your current files or files you have had recently, but to access them you need to restore them back to your MacBook hard drive.
You need to use the MyBook hard drive just as a hard drive when you want to access files, like photos that you don't want on you MacBook hard drive. For ordinary documents you can just move the files onto the drive. For iTunes and iPhoto you should check out the discussion areas for each of those applications.

Neither my local computer consultant nor I have been ableto change any of the settings in Time Machine to correct this problem. Working with the choices in the TimeMachine, there does not appear that there is any way to change the frequency ofthe backups either, so, after a year has elapsed, the time capsule is full, andmy only choice appears to be to erase all the current data on the Time Capsuleand start over, something that I do not want to at all let alone repeat on anannual basis. How much data is being backed-up from each Mac? (see what's shown for Estimated size of full backup under the exclusions box in Time Machine Prefs > Options).
Is there any other data on your Time Capsule, besides the backups?
Most likely, there just isn't room. Time Machine may be trying to do a very large (or full) backup of one or both Macs, and can't. Since it won't ever delete the most recent backup, there has to be enough room for one full backup plus whatever it's trying to back up now, plus 20% (for workspace).

I have installed a 3 TB Time Capsule. I use it for Time Machine backups from an iMac and a Macbook Air. The Time Capsule has a sparsebundle for each of the Time Machines.
Question 1. If the Time Capsule runs out of space due to backups from the two computers what will happen? Will the iMac Time Machine delete files from the laptop sparsebundle if it is the first to do a backup after the TC is full?
Question 2. If I store files other than the sparsebundle on the TC will they be deleted to make space for the sparsebundles to increase in size? If so, is there anyway to prevent the non-Time Machine files from being deleted?

No, it will only delete files from its own sparsebundle.

Again No.. the TM has no ability to do anything outside its own sparsebundle.. it will not affect your files.. mixing up data and TM backups is not necessarily a great idea though.

Sounds like you are a bit confused with version numbers.
Latest AirPort Utility version for the iPhone / iPad is 1.3.3. There is no option or capability to export/import settings on the iOS version(s) of AirPort Utility.....although you could take a series of screen shots and save them for future reference.
AirPort Utility 6.3.x is found on a Mac.....not on iPhone / iPad. Export and Import options are found under the File menu in 6.3.x.

Not immediately. When space starts to get tight, Time Machine will start to delete the oldest file(s) to make more room, but this won't occur for some time.

You won't if you choose to restore from a backup that occurred after the date that you deleted the file.
If you absolutely do not want to keep the file in your Time Machine backups at all, you do have the option to go into Time Machine, find the file, and manually delete all versions of the file from past dates.

Relaunch the Finder, then from the Finder menu bar, select
Finder ▹ Preferences ▹ Advanced
and uncheck the box marked Empty Trash securely. Try again to empty the Trash.

You could manually copy the files over to the Time Capsule disk....or better yet, use a PC application like Genie Timeline Pro to set this up automatically.

Time Capsule deleted my old files

I bought a Time Capsule in February this year and after that it has been around every where I was. I did a first "big" backup from my Macbook Pro and every since that the backup did work automatically in the background.
But recently I did go into some folder of mine and turn on the Time Capsule to check for some older files I deleted and I figured out the Time Capsule goes back only till 6th October this year. So can somebody explain to me where is all my old data from February till October, the files I deleted and the old backups?
I also saw that my backup file did have a name that looked like that: "Dejan's MacBook Pro (4).sparsebundle". So what is the number "(4) doing there and again where and how I can access my old files or what happened?

Did you update the computer to Yosemite that day.. or perhaps the day after.. ??
The way TM works on Yosemite is still rather mysterious to us.. but if it is like Mavericks .. the backups are still there.. mostly but it will take Yosemite 3 days or so (longer over wireless) to actually index it. The new index function in Yosemite is super slow apparently.
You can manually bypass using TM and directly open the sparsebundle in finder and get your files. See the material in Pondini for help

Also please note that when you actually delete files.. not just version them.. at anytime TM can delete the files in the backup.. you are trusting TM as an archive system.. it is not.. and you should not use it that way. See Q12, 20 in same reference.

You are having network issues.. the same name cannot appear on two computers on the network. The Mac will automatically increment its name so that the old version and the new version can be on the network at the same time.. Of course the old one is not really there.. just its ghost.. somehow apple networks do have ghosting issues.. and it is not uncommon issue.. what is more you might have multiple sparsebundles on the TC.. check out if there are other backups using the older names of the computer.. They will then give you access to your missing files.

I put DVD installation media, old files, student work history, and a lot of stuff on there.
Time Capsule decided to delete all of my data one day to make room for a backup.
People should know this.
Do not put anything on your Time Capsule that you want to keep, unless perhaps it's on another partition (if that works).
I'm not too disappointed about it as it wasn't my critical stuff, but still. It's lost forever now.
And it's supposed to be a Time Capsule for @#($*%& sake.

No, it didn't. Time Machine cannot delete other data to make room for backups.
Under extreme circumstances, when it finds your backups corrrupted beyond repair, it may delete all your Time Machine Backups, but not until you confirm via this prompt:
What most likely happened is, something happened to the Time Capsule or its disk that damaged/corrupted everything -- your backups and other data.
How old is it? They don't last forever; most seem to run well for 3-4 years, but some fail earlier, others live longer.
Do you have power failures? If so, those are murder on electronics. Consider getting a small U.P.S. system for your Time Capsule (and modem, etc., as appropriate).

Time capsule deleted old image after factory reset and setting up a new user

Something strange happened and I can't seem to find anyone else having this question. A friend lent me her macbook air for some time so I backed up her current system to my Time Capsule and "restored" a fresh copy of mavericks in my name, (I deleted everything on the computer). Her backup was safe (I thought) on the time capsule, I checked and it was there.
After I was done transferring some files I needed and setting up this new macbook in my name I was going to set it up to the time capsule as well.
It said that the identity of the backup disk had changed and then after making my new copy of my setup hers disappeared. How come the TC erased it? I suppose I can go Data Rescue 3 on the TC, opening it up, people has said that should work reading on the forum, my question is there another way? Why did it erase the other Macbook air copy? It did not have the same name or anything. It would be so frustrating to have to open it up and recover the data. Has this happened to anyone else?
The TC is 3 gen A1355, 1 TB, I updated the time capsule's firmware to 7.6.1 and I use MacBook Air mid 2011 with OSX 10.9.5 Mavericks,

It cannot have deleted it from what you have told us.. the only way to erase the disk is to click erase in the airport utility or deliberately select and delete the file in finder..
BUT if you use mavericks I suspect you may be seeing how well its networking really functions.. ie hardly at all.
Please use the Pondini method to open the old sparsebundle.. or do it manually.

You should also see the used space in the TC is a fair bit more than what is used by the MBA and it should show 3 sparsebundles.. your old OS.. the owners version of the OS, and your current version of the OS.. although Mavericks has a nasty habit of messing up the previous ones.
Too late for now.. but you did it the wrong way.. next time use a disk image.. Disk utility can make a full image of the drive.. but it is easier to use bootable clones from Carbon Copy Cloner or Superduper etc. TM is hopeless for restoring a whole install.

Time Capsule "Deleted backup image"

As usual, the Time Machine went on, except that a message prompted for backup consolidation.
Since 1.4 TB out of the 2 TB of Time Capsule are used and a 75% disk usage is fine, I answered yes.
Problem is, Time Machine actually erased my whole year of backups!

Not really.
First, each is identified to the Mac that made it, via a file in the sparse bundle that contains the Mac's hardware address. This is so you can back up 2 or more Macs to the same TC, since you can't partition the TC's disk (and also allows you to change the name of the Mac, or even have 2 with the same name, without causing havoc).
Second, if the Verify procedure finds a problem it can't fix, it marks the sparse bundle as damaged, and won't back up to it again. You may be able to restore selected files, or even a whole backup, as long as you don't hit the damaged spot(s), but as long as that sparse bundle exists, identified to your Mac, Time Machine won't create a new one.
In theory, you could alter the identification file, but then you'd find it impossible, or at least very difficult, to use the sparse bundle for anything.
What you could do is connect a USB drive to the TC and "archive" the disk, including the damaged sparse bundle, to it, per the green box in #Q6 of Using Time Machine with a Time Capsule, then delete the damaged original (or let Time Machine do that). You can view and restore selected items from it, via the Browse... option, per Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #17. But remember, those backups are damaged -- somewhere, something(s) aren't right, so results will be unpredictable.

Time Capsule deleted old backup, that had to be preserved!

I made a backup of my macbook pro yesterday, because I have a new profile it did not find a older Time Capsule backup. It asked if it had to make a new backup, so I did. But this morning checking if everything was still on the Time Capsule I found out that it deleted a older backup from my last config. Is there a way to get it back? And why doesn't it say that it removes an older backup file?!!!!!!

Time Capsule Deleting

I get this message when trying to delete this old file“iMac_0023329cf25c.sparsebundle” can’t be opened right now because it’s being used by another task, such as moving or copying an item or emptying the Trash. Try again when the current task is complete.

I'm not clear on whether you are actually trying to delete the entire sparsebundle using the Finder. Is that the case? If yes, it may take 4-5 hours or more for the process to complete.
If you are not trying to delete the entire sparsebundle, before you take any drastic steps like erasing your disk, (which will permanently delete anything on the disk), I suggest that you try this as a preliminary step.
Open AirPort Utillity - Click Manual Setup
Click the Disks icon in the row of icons
Click the Disks tab just below the Advanced "gear" icon
Click Disconnect All Users
Click Update and let the Time Capule restart, which should take 25-30 seconds
Then perform a complete power cycle on your network as follows:
Power everything down...all devices...order is not important
Wait a moment,t then start your modem first and let it run a moment or two by itself
Start the next devise connected to the modem the same way
Continue starting devices one at a time the same way until the network is back up
You may need to reset Time Machine as follows:
Click System Preferences (gear icon on the dock)
Click Time Machine
Click Select Disk
Click your Time Capsule to highlight it
Click Use for Backups

Finding password email in time capsule backup file

My iMac died last week and is in the Apple shop getting a new logic board and hard drive.
In the meantime, there is a web site that I want to access, but I don't have the password. My iMac always recalls the file when I used to log in from there.
I've used the "Back-in-Time" application to access some files from my Time Capsule while using my laptop. Is there a way to find a web site password? (I've already tried the 'forgot your password' link, and for some reason it did not send the password to me).
I also know I have an email in Apple Mail with the password on it. They sent it to me when I originally joined the site. Is there a way to search for specific emails from "Back-in-Time"?

Yes, but as Bob says, your best bet will be to create one or more +disk images+ (via Disk Utility, in your Applications/Utilities folder) for that data.
The reason for this is, Time Machine is designed to use all the space available to it for backups; once it's full, TM begins deleting the oldest backup(s) when it needs room for new ones.
Thus making +disk image(s)+ will reserve a certain amount of space that Time Machine can't fill.
Also, be sure you have other backups of any data you put there. When the TC's disk fails (and all disk drives fail, sooner or later), you may lose anything on it.
