Time Capsule DNS error

I can connect to the Time Capsule via Mac Mini via wifi with no problems, however when I try to connect with any other devices it stalls at "obtaining IP address".
The Time Capsule has two yellow status messages
1. Internet Connection
2. No DNS servers

I resolved this by setting the router to DNS and NAT in the internet options and rebooting all devices.

  • DNS Issues with Time Capsule - DNS Proxy periodically dies

hi all .... looking for some suggestions
I have a time capsule 1TB, connected to a linksys adsl modem in bridge mode, with the TC acting as DHCP server for my local clients. In the PPPoE settings I also enter the primary and secondary addresses for DNS that my ISP supplied.
I am able to successfully connect to the internet, and all clients successfully pick up an IP address, and each client picks up the TC as the DNS proxy. Everything works perfectly as it should.
Usually once per day, there seems to be a slight hickup with the internet connection (hard to tell whether I am losing the PPPoE or some other issue). When this happens, the PPPoE connection remains active, as I am able to access anything on the internet from an IP level. However, the DNS proxy service on the TC seems to die and as a result, all internet browsing fails. If I reboot the TC, everything comes back to normal. If I dont reboot, the only way to get browsing working is to manually enter the DNS IP address from ISP into the client PCs. However, this is a manual fix that I should not have to perform.
Looking for advice and guidance. Seems like a bug but I cant tell. If I was able to set the DHCP server to pass out the ISP supplied addresses that would also work, but I cant.

Just got off the phone with support for this very same problem. DNS Proxy is definitely dying in the TC, looks like a firmware issue to me.
This is the 3rd TC I'm on. First was a 500GB, had this problem, replaced it under warranty at Apple's direction, replacement did the same, just upgraded this weekend to 1GB, and same issue still. All on 7.3.2 firmware.
TC 1TB, PPPoE to my ISP, ISP's DNS Servers listed in the PPPoE config in the TC.
When a host gets DHCP from the TC the only DNS returned is the TC itself, since it proxies the ISP DNS servers.
Once every day or two, the DNS proxy dies. local network works, and I can add my ISP's DNS addresses in my host config and I have DNS again, but this is definitely something dying in the DNS proxy in the TC.
Just for kicks trying to switch from my ISP's DNS servers to OpenDNS now since someone said that worked for them, but I am not hopeful... I don't see this as a host DNS issues at all.
The dead proxy is very clear:
    $ nslookup apple.com. 192.168.1.1 # that's the TC
    Server: 192.168.1.1
    Address: 192.168.1.1#53
    ** server can't find apple.com: SERVFAIL
    $ nslookup apple.com. 208.67.222.222 # that's OpenDNS
    Server: 208.67.222.222
    Address: 208.67.222.222#53
    Non-authoritative answer:
    Name: apple.com
    Address: 17.149.160.49
I replaced a linksys router with the TC and am kind of unhappy that a $500 router dies every couple of days. My cheapo Linksys router never needed to be restarted, it only ever got rebooted once every year or so when the house lost power long enough for the UPS to run out of battery.
Help us out here Apple, I replaced a $50 router with a $500 because I like the flavor of your kool aid, and this thing dies every day or two. Even if you can't fix why the proxy is dying every couple of days, can you please at least update the firmware to maybe restart the proxy if it quits working?

  • 3TB Time Capsule Disk Error

Just bought a new 3TB 4th Gen Time Capsule.  Have managed to get the wireless network up but cannot find the disk for time machine back up.  It comes up with an disk error message. Am I missing something or is the Disk damaged?  I thought is was supposed to be straight out the box.

What is the exact error message?  Have you used the Time Machine panel in System Preferences to select that drive?  Have you configured the internal drive using AirPort Utility?

  • Blinking orange light - time capsule - icpw error

my time capsule 2 has a blinking orange light and when I right click and hit assist me the error reads icpw check for software update.  I follow the instructions to update the software and all software is current.  How can I fix this error?  my wireless network is down  Thanks

Hi - I saw that no one answered your question and although I don't have a TC, I like to learn - so I did some research (the search box on this forum and Google) and iCPW seems to mean "incorrect password" - it may be that the TC or AU is picking up a password problem somewhere in your system - it could be a changed Apple ID or iCloud issue or ????? - so you have to do some detective work and track it down - other posts have referred to these things - the common thread was that if the firmware was updated and the latest AU was used, the error was indentified more accurately - in one case the person changed their Apple ID and the error went away - anyway, I hope some of this is helpful.

  • Trying to use Airport Extree in Time Capsule nned error code help

I am a log time apple supporter but I have been messing with this since last night trying to get the @^#&# thing to work. I got conencted erlier to the internet now when i come back from dinner i can;t connect and and i get error code 6765. Earlier i got a message somethinga bout a bios but i did nto write it downa nd now can;t get it to produce it.
Can;t they ever make anything that works the first time out of box for us older non techy guys.
    HELP
    Dan

Thank you for your quick answer, smorkerz. However, I did it and it doesn't work.
I tried to check separately the time capsule and the airport extreme, switching one off when using the other one. The result is that each one works alone but when I use them both, just time capsule appears, works well, and I can't use the airport to print for instance.
    Do you understand anything ?

  • Time Capsule (OSStatus error -6602.) Cannot choose backup disk

I have no idea what to do next. The wireless connection on my 500 GB Time Capsule works fine. However, a few days ago, I noticed that it was no longer backing up. I tried the usual things (resetting Time Capsule, unplugging Time Capsule, changing my disk name) and even did a full erase. Every single time I try to turn on my Time Machine and select the backup disk, it gives me this error when I enter my password:
    Operation could not be completed
    (OSStatus error -6602.)
I know I am entering the correct password. I tried to run disk utility but even though I can see my Time Capsule, I cannot verify it. Any thoughts?

I've had this problem since August. Every once in a while I do searches and try different things, but so far nothing has worked. Would love to find the answer to this. I can no longer backup anything even though I've reset the capsule and even wiped out my data and tried to start from scratch.
I finally sprung the $9.99/month for drop box just to have backups. It's ridiculous.
This is about the 5th time I've had issues with the time capsule and had to wipe out my backups.

  • Time Capsule Permissions Error with Torrent Client

Hi all.. i'm having a problem with using my torrent client with Time capsule and i'm wondering if anyone can help me at all?
I am using time caspsule as a wireless external hard drive with my macbook pro. And i'm using it to store my torrent files and as a download foler for my torrents. Lately my torrent client(i've used both transmission and Utorrent) has been giving me permission/data missing errors.
What hapens when i start downloading a torrent is that it will start downloading for about 30 seconds and then gives an error saying either permission denied or data missing.
I'm assuming this is happening because somewhere there are permissions on the time capsule that prevents the torrent client from reading and writing to it.
However when i bring up the info on any folders in the time capsule it clearly startes that i have read/write permissions for all user types.
That being said, i notice that when i bring up the information window of the time capsule as a whole(similair to viewing an external hard drive info) and view the permissions, i notice that permissions for 'unkown' users are 'read/write', however permissions for 'everyone' are 'no access'. i'm not sure if this is contributing to the torrent client error. When i try to change the permission for 'everyone' a messafe comes up saying that i don't have priveledges to change the setting! and i can't figure out how to change this setting. i'm not even sure if this is what i need to change tho.
I am the only user for this time capsule and my macbook pro is the only computer connected to it. i am using airport to connecr to it and i ccess internet through it. I can still transfer files and open up files on the time capsule through my macbook pro. i can access everything on it, it's just that both transmission and utorrent seem to be having trouble accessing the files on it due to some permissions settings which i must need to chang to allow access. however tranmission / utorrent have no issues with dealing with torrent files on my hard drive on my macbook pro, so i;m sure its not an issue with te torrrent client itself.
Any help would be much appreciated!
    thanks!

Just go to the disk file sharing page, turn on guest access and give it full permissions for read and write.
But let me say this is probably a poor way to do things.. All the files you collect are actually being loaded into temporary files on the MBP and then copied across to the TC.. in the end you may as well just use the MBP to do your torrenting.. and once you have the files, move them across the TC.
We have also had issues with the TC dropping off the network on the latest firmware. So what you might be seeing is issues with afp connection to the TC.. open the log and see if you get loads of connection and disconnections from the IP of the MBP.. if so you are seeing the issue we are having.

  • Can't connect to Time Capsule. Error: Could not connect to the disk. Make sure NetBIOS is enabled and try again (53).

I have a Time Capsule that I've been using for a while now. I've got a Windows 8 PC and a few MacBooks that I use with it.
Recently, I had to hard-reset my Windows 8 PC (with the reset button while everything was locked up). When it came back, I couldn't connect to my Time Capsule anymore. I get the error message: "Could not connect to the disk. Make sure NetBIOS is enabled and try again (53)."
    I've tried:
Checking on the NetBIOS service to ensure that it's running
Explicitly enabling NetBIOS on the Internet connection
Renaming my Time Capusle to have no spaces or disallowed characters
Pinging both the Time Capsule's name and IP address (both respond)
    Any suggestions?

Do you have bonjour installed? If not I recommend you install the full apple airport utilities for windows.. although only win7 is available.. it does install in win8. Apple btw need to do some work on making windows access current.
In windows explorer, simply type the address to the TC in the address bar.
    \\TCname or \\TCipaddress
If it fails.. turn off firewall and ensure the PC is located at home..as opposed to work or public. A windows PC can go stupid and think it is suddenly in a new environment for no apparent reason. Your reset might do exactly such a thing.
If you still have issues.. are you getting full internet access ok?
Can you open the airport utility in windows and find the TC? If so go to the file sharing page and turn on the guest account to read and write access. This helps loads.. and make sure the workgroup is set to WORKGROUP.

  • Time  Capsule backup error

Ive been able to backup to my time capsule with no problem for several months.
Now when I try to back up I get an error that says
"The backup volume is read only."
When I do a Verify Disk in Disk Utility on the sparsebundle I get an error that says
    Invalid sibling link
    Volume check failed
Error: Filesystem verify or repair failed.
    Thanks
    Joel Simkhai

I had a similar experience last month in August. Started the TC/TM routine in May 2008 until it just broke down without any warning and/or indication. When I tried reset/restart, I can sometimes mount the TC drive but it says the volume is read-only.
Tried to google for information and also look up Apple Support. Found a few potential links but the suggestions didn't work for me. The time I spent surfing for help in Google was about the amount of time it took for me to start a fresh backup (i.e. 3-4 hours with ethernet cable connected to TC).
So, my advice for you is to move along, reformat and start again. In any case, the backups can die on you anytime, so make sure to have at least 2 copies of every backup. I have 1 external HDD, 1 on TC and 1 on my old WinXP machine. You never know which one of them will crap on you at any point in time, but I figured that the chances of all 3 failing is pretty slim.

  • Time Capsule "sparsebundle" error

Whenever my Time Capsule tries to back up via Time Machine I am getting the following error:
The backup disk image “/Volumes/Michael Rowe's Time Capsule-2/Michael Rowe’s iMac.sparsebundle” is already in use.
Any ideas why and how I might fix this issue?

This is the most common error since Mountain Lion.. TM backup has not correctly unmounted the backup the last time it finished .. you need to force the unmount..
ie Reboot the TC is the usual way. Sometimes a whole network reboot was in order.. restart in proper order too.. modem.. TC.. clients. 2min gap.
But the older utility has a disconnect all users. Left out of the useless toy utility that is v6.

  • Time Capsule disk error

I am coming up with a Disk Error, and it says that I should use Disk Tools to repair the drive.
    My question is this
I did launch Disk Tools and I can not see the Time Capsule Drive.
How do I fix the drive?? For it keeps coming up with an Error can not BackUp
    Thank you for any replies
    robert

I just changed the setting to use 5Ghz only and now I am backing up. What I am finding funny right now, that I am am backup but I am right now at over 2 gigs and counting. So it is backing up but it looks like it is backing up the whole drive. ;-(
OH well, at least it is backing up.
    So, lets close the case.
    Thank you for your reply

  • Time capsule connecting error

I'm having trouble connecting a new time capsule, I get "an unexpected error occurred.Try again"  I'm trying to connect wirelessly, and have reset the capsule.

I'm just trying to use the time capsule for time machine backups, and keep my existing router for the internet access.  It's a new time capsule and I'm trying to set it up for the first time, but when I try to use the airport utility, it gives me the error message, and won't let me get to the setup menu.
You do understand that the Time Capsule must connect to your existing router using a permanent, wired Ethernet cable connection, correct? This requirement is pictured in the Setup Guide that came with the Time Capsule.
The Ethernet cable must connect from a LAN <--> port on the existing router to the WAN "O" port on the Time Capsule. The Time Capsule can be located anywhere that an Ethernet cable will reach up to 330 feet or about 100 meters.
If you need help with the setup, we need to know what operating system is installed on the MacBook that you will use to setup the Time Capsule. It should be at least Lion (10.7.5) or higher, like Mountain Lion (10.8.x) or Mavericks (10.9.x).
If you are not sure about this, click the Apple icon in the upper left corner of the screen, then click About This Mac and post back with the OS X version number that you see there.

  • Time Capsule Finishing error

When my time capsule gets to the Finishing part of the backup, sometimes I get an error saying that the backup cannot be completed. This has been happening for about a week.
Also, the time machine tab at the top bar doesn't show when the last backup was. It just shows this "Last Backup: -- " This has been happening for the past week as well. It even happens when backups are successful.
Any ideas to why this is happening?
    Thanks in advance

  • Slow Time Capsule & Now Error when trying to set up

My first problem is that the Time Capsule is so much slower then the Airport Extreme. Web pages take ages and ages to load. It is very obvious. The apple store said it would be faster, but I am just not seeing it.
Now onto todays problem. Suddenly we could not print at all through the Time Capsule. I tried unplugging and plugging in everything again, restarting etc. Now the TC will not work at all. All it does is flash orange. I hit the restart button and have tried the Airport Utility. It keeps telling me it found problems and to hit continue to resolve but then says "an error occurred, please close the configuration window and try again". Keeps doing this. I plugged in AE and it is working like it always did, and it is so very nice to have the speed again. The TC is still flashing orange.

Did you ever get this "slow page load" issue resolved? I am having the same issue.

  • Time Capsule - Network Error when copying files

    Hi
I'm trying to copy files over to my Time Capsule, the drive is recognised and I can access it, and create folders inside it, but as soon as I start copying files, it tries to copy and sometimes copies 1 or 2 files and then an error message pops up saying
    'Network Error
There is a problem accessing Z:\Backup'
where Backup is the folder I'm trying to transfer and Z:\ is the TC drive.
    Please can someone help?
    Thanks

    Hi
I have solved this by rolling back firmware to 7.3.2 Looks like anything later, and I get this problem.........hope Apple fixes this.
