Time Capsule  down after 7.4.1 update

After sucesssfully updating to 7.4.1, Time Capsule goes down after roughly 20 hours.
The light stay green, airport net is still seen by computers, but you can't join it. You can't connect either through Ethernet. No ping
No reset possible either !
Only solution is pluging out the power and rebooting
My Macpro has a 802.11 n card
I have also a slimdevice and a wifi canon printer
All 3 are connected in 802.11b/g , which seems odd to me

FYI- I figured out how to download old firmware versions. I figured I would post it here in case someone else is having the same problem.
From the menu bar, while holding the Option key down, select Airport Utility -> Check for Updates… You’ll see a list of all the old and new firmwares which are available. Select the version you want for your Airport (note different Airports have different firmwares.) After downloading 7.3.2 for your Time Capsule/Airport. After the download is complete, select the device you want to upgrade (or in this case, downgrade) and click Base Station, then Upload Firmware. The version(s) that you download should be in the drop down menu.

  • No Time Capsule connection after 10.6.1 update

Updated to Snow Leopard 10.6.1 last night on my iMac. It no longer sees my time capsule as a shared server nor does it see it as an airport for internet connection. The TC is working, my MacBook (which I have not updated) works flawlessly with the TC.

i have been using my MBP for a month and now after the update to 10.7.3 from 10.7.2...it has slowed down..
it used to take 20 sec. to boot and now it takes about 35-45 sec. to boot up..

    Hi ..
Checked to see how much free space there is on the startup disk lately?
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure there's a minimum of 15% free disk space.
Try disabling the Lion "resume" feature.
    Open System Preferences > General
Deselect:  Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps
And check System Prerferences > Security & Privacy / Login Items. Delete any apps you may have listed thee to launch when you startup, then restart your Mac.

  • External hard drive is not working on airport time capsule even after 7.7.2 firmware update.

External hard drive is not working on airport time capsule even after 7.7.2 firmware update.
I have the latest Airpor Time capsule 2gb. I specifically bought it so that I could have an external hardrive set up to wirelessly house my itunes library and movies. When i connect the drive, all i get is that the disk needs to be repaired.
the drive can works fine when connected to the macbook pro and I have run the verify and repair features in disk utility. I have also reset the airport timecapsule as well following these changes and still no change.
The 7.7.2 update says that it addressed the usb issue of not showing the drives but there are still problems as I cannot get it to appear.
    Please help.
    Thanks

How is the hard drive formatted?
Have you tried using a powered USB hub with the drive when it is connected to the Time Capsule?
(The USB port on the Time Capsule is borderline as far as power is concerned....you may need to use a powered hub.....even if the hard drive has its own power supply)
If the drive is formatted correctly....and....it has ample power, it will "show up" when you open AirPort Utility, click Edit, then click the Disks tab at the top of the next window.
In the example below, my Time Capsule drive is named "Backups" and another drive named "WD Drive" is connected to the USB port on the Time Capsule.
You should see the name of your Time Capsule drive (named "Data" unless you have changed the name) and the name of the USB drive if you perform the same check.
    What do you see?

  • Time capsule problems after OS reinstall

After getting a blue screen on restart I had to do an archive/OS reinstall today. The reinstall worked fine but I am now having problems accessing my Time Capsule.
At first my computer didn't even recognize my time capsule. After restarting my time capsule, my computer recognized it. However, when I tried to open time machine to access the files, it stalled on "connecting to backup volume" for about 45 minutes and never connected. Similarly, the backup stalls on "preparing backup." I tried to stop backing up but it is currently stalled on "stopping backup." Finally, time capsule has disappeared from the menu at the top of my screen.
Any thoughts on addressing these issues would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same problem as well. I did an archive and install with OSX, then updated to 10.5.5 and now all the TC does is spin and say preparing. A sample from the console is

I want to use it for backing up my Mac.
    It's good for that . . .
But also I don't keep all my stuff in my Mac.
    But not for that.
This older and not day-by-day usage files I want to store in the time machine.
You can do that (see below), but how are you going to back them up?   If your only copies are on the TC, when (not if) it fails, you risk losing your only copy of the data.
Is it possible to split TC in two partitions.
No, but there are some workarounds, including making a fixed-size disk image on it to "reserve" some space.  See #Q3 in Using Time Machine with a Time Capsule.
But you still won't have backups of the stuff you put there.
You don't say what kind of Mac you have.  If it's a desktop model, just keep the external HD connected to it, and let Time Machine back it up along with your internal HD.
However, it sounds like you may have a laptop, where that's not going to be convenient.  In that case, your best bet might be to copy the external HD to a disk image on the TC as above, then keep the HD in a safe place.
To finish, when i enter the TC and go through the Time line how can I get a file from there and move it back to Mac hd.
Via the "Star Wars" display, per #15 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.
You might also want to review the Time Machine Tutorial, and perhaps browse the rest of the FAQ.

Back up is very slow on 2 tb time capsule. After 2 days only 60 gb of 320 gb completed. Have connected ethernet cable. Any suggestions?

Yes, that's terribly slow.  You should get somewhere in the neighborhood of 20-24 GB/hour via Ethernet, assuming there isn't a lot of conflicting network traffic or your Mac's CPU is under very heavy load.
Are you sure you're actually using the Ethernet connection, instead of WIFI?   To check, turn Airport off.  If the backup fails, it's on WIFI.  In that case, you need to set Ethernet as the "preferred" network, via System Preferences > Network.  Click the "gear" icon at the bottom of the sidebar and select Set Service order.  Then drag Ethernet above Airport.  When both Airport and Ethernet are on, that will make OSX select Ethernet over Airport.
If that doesn't help, see #D2 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting.

  • IPhone 4S Can't see Time Capsule Wireless after IO6 update

My iphone can't see my Time Capsule wireless network after upgrading to IO6.  My iPad3 works fine after upgrade.
I determined that if I change settings on the TC to 802.11N(b/g) compatible it can see/connect.
Seems to be a problem with the 802.11 5GHz band that the iPhone can't see after the IOS6 update.
Not sure if this is the same issue that others are seeing but could be worth a try to change your router's radio config.
Hopefully Apple sorts this out soon.
Very annoying to upgrade and have existing networking break!!!!
Bad Karma and I just ordered 2 new iPhone 5's

Still having this issue - used to be able to connect prior to this update - The iPhone has no problem auto joining the local Cable WiFi - but still doesn't show the Time Capsule WiFi SSID's in the list. iPad and three other Macs see and can join the Time Capsule WiFi.

  • Time Machine/Capsule failure after 10.5.7 update

    Seems a lot of problems.
My time machine will not connect to the server, and I cannot open the time machine function in system preferences without it crashing. Have tried multiple reboots etc. Using the airport utility shows the time capsule to be functioning normally, and the internet works. I've also tried to connect via ethernet cable with no success.

  • Time Capsule full after a "Erase Free Space" using Disk Utility

    Hello,
I am facing some issues related to my Time Capsule.
Reviewing my past, I had a lot of backups on this, using Time Machine and it always worked pretty well. But after deleting some backups manually to reclaim disk space, this was not exactly freeing it.
Searching in the forum here, I saw that I could mount the backup sparsebundle image and map it into the Disk Utility. This always worked greatly too both for disk checking and reclaiming the space back.
The problem starts on the last Friday when I performed the operation again, but it started using the whole free space that I had and did not give it back.
Studying the case I found that it creates a temporary folder to store the file it creates to write the byte 0 on the disk. This file actually resides in the sparsebundle image and therefore I can see the file with 200GB, for example, in the Finder, this is a split in bands (8MB) just like the backup is. After the disk gets full, the Disk Utility should delete the file properly and give me back the space safely.
Right now my Time Capsule has 0 byte free and I can't do anything on it beyond redo the the Erase Free Space operation. When I do it, it starts writing the temporary file again and the problem repeats itself.
I know that if I backup the data and really erase the disk, I'll get it back, but this is not an option for me because I want a smart solution for this.
The only thing that changed between when it worked and now is the 10.5.6 update that I made and I'd like that it's not the root of the issue.
Is there any suggestion or general stuff I could do to fix it?
Did anybody already face the same issue?
If anyone needs more details to help me out of this, just let me know.
    Thanks and regards,
    Eduardo

Just another thing to add, I'd like a good solution for this as the redo operation from Disk Utility takes around 2 days and then it just "dies".

  • Time capsule problems after installing Lion

After installing Lion, I need to regularly shut down iMac(Intel) in order to have Time capsule do the next backup. This method allows me to manually back up the automatic function to back up no longer exists. Also unable to connect to the backup disk.

Mine needs backing up immediately after its just backed up!! Its crazy!! IOS5 was supposed to be free but as a result I had to pay to upgrade to Lion then I had to pay to upgrade to iPhoto 11 just to be able to transfer photos from my iphone!! On top of this, Lion runs as slow as a PC, asks to backup constantly, I'm losing iDisk and iWeb next year and they've removed the bounce facility from Mail. Blinding. Well done Apple - who's brainwave was Lion and IOS5? Bill Gates?

  • Mac won't shut down after 10.6.8 update - a possible fix

I noticed that after updating my MacBook Pro to 10.6.8 (using the latest 1.1 combo update) that often times when attempting to shut-down after using Safari the computer would just hang or, I'd get a message that said something like, "OSX didn't log you out because Safari did not quit...".
After putting the system into SAFE BOOT mode and trying to launch Safari I was getting tons of errors about Flash Player plug-in 10.6 crashing.
After downloading the latest Flash player plug-in from Adobe the hang-on-shutdown behavior seems to have stopped.
FYI for those who haven't found a fix.

Hi, I've just come accross the same problem... did you manage to get a resolution??
    Cheers, Chris.

  • HT5167 SLOW SHUT DOWN AFTER 10.7.4 UPDATE

before the update my Air shut down in 2 or 3 sec , After the update to 10.7.4 shut down in 13 sec. why??

Launch the Console application by entering the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search, and select "system.log" from the file list. Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the times of the log messages referring to boot times. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the time of the most recent boot when you had the problem. Look for error messages in the minutes before that time, and post them here -- the text, please, not a screenshot. Edit out excessive repeats, if any. Do the same with kernel.log.
If the logs don't go back far enough in time, scroll down in the Console file list to /private/var/log/system.log.0.bz2 and /private/var/log/kernel.log.0.bz2. Search those archived logs, and if necessary the older ones below them, for the same information.
Also in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the most recent one, if any. For privacy’s sake, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please do not post shutdownStall or hang logs -- they're very long and not helpful.

  • My Time Capsule disappears after restarting on setup and blocks the internet

    Hi There
I have just got a new Time Capsule and am trying to set it up at the moment, but am having a big problem. Every time I go through the setup, at the end of it it says that the settings have been updated, and the Time Capsule now needs to restart. However, after the restart my Macbook then can't find the Time Capsule, and my Internet is not working. At this point I go into Network preferences and re-select my home Wifi Network, and reset the Time Capsule. Once it has been reset my Macbook can see it again, but it obviously needs to be re-setup and the whole process starts again.
I am not trying to use my Time Capsule as a Wifi network, I just want to use it for backup and as an external hard drive.
I am trying to connect my time capsule to my wifi network wirelessly.
I'm pretty new to the world of Mac, and not overly technical, so if anyone can help me it would be much appreciated.
Question - Does the time capsule need to be connected via an ethernet cable to my Wifi Router?
Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it
    Chris

Apple do not make their products compatible with those of other companies.. the very thought of it sickens their bottom line. It may not be impossible to do WDS with other brands.. but you will lose more skin than you can afford to, and the bleeding edge is unpleasantly sharp.
And to answer your question.. yes, the TC needs to be connected by ethernet, unless you are going to use another apple airport product, AEBS, Express or another TC.
Then the question comes in do you run the TC as the main router.. or bridged.. you will see those two options. In general the TC behaves better as the main router.. but it isn't universal. In bridge you will have full access to all the facilities that you are likely after except remote connection. (which should still be possible albeit very difficult.. more skin loss.)

  • Problem accessing Time Capsule settings after firmware 7.3.1 upgrade

I understand there are similar posts, but none provide a solution to my problem:
I bought a brand new Time Capsule and set it up. Everything worked fine and I could access it using AirPort Utility. After the initial setup I immediately upgraded the firmware from version 7.3 to 7.3.1. Now, when I try to access or change the settings, AirPort Utility first reports that it is "Reading the Time Capsule configuration...", and after about 2 minutes I get the message
"An error occurred while reading the configuration. -- Please make sure your Apple wireless device is plugged in and in range of your computer or connected via Ethernet and try again. (-6753)"
I performed a hard reset and could then access the settings again for another setup. At the end of the setup, AirPort Utility reports that it's "Writing the Time Capsule configuration...", and after about 2 minutes
"An error occurred while updating the configuration. -- Please make sure your Apple wireless device is plugged in and in range of your computer or connected via Ethernet and try again. (-6722)"
I also tried to access the settings using a direct Ethernet connection to my iMac, but to no avail.
Now, even though I can't access the Time Capsule settings, which is annoying, the device seems to be working: it creates a wireless network and I can access the Time Capsule hard drive.
Any solutions to this problem? Is it possible to revert to firmware version 7.3? Or do I need to wait for a firmware upgrade?

Great, thank you! Looks like this solved my problem.
I performed the reset, and then restored firmware version 7.3 using your great advice to *press the option key when clicking "Check for Updates"*.
I then used the setup dialog, put it my info and passwords, restart... oops, once again, I can't access the settings, even though I'm using firmware 7.3 which used to work when I first set up Time Capsule when it was fresh out of the box.
Reset, do the same thing again, still can't access settings and can't upgrade the firmware.
Reset, *first thing upgrade the firmware to 7.3.1*. I put in my info again, and finally, everything works.
One note: I'm not sure if that matters, but in the last step, I set up Time Capsule using the window that you get when you click the Time Capsule icon in the AirPort Utility. Previously, I would click "Continue" in the AirPort Utility for the assisted setup. This might not matter, but I want to mention it anyways in case it helps replicate this solution.
