Time Capsule Drive not showing up on desktop anymore

Hi, every hour when Time Machine would begin backing up data to my Time Capsule, the drive would always show up on my desktop and then disappear when it was finished. Just recently the drive stopped showing up on my desktop, Time Machine still backs up to my Time Capsule. The drive shows up in the finder sidebar. Any help is greatly appreciated

My Time Capsule shows up on my drive but I can't do anything with it. This is in Snow Leopard even after today's 10.6.2 update.
All I get is this message "The alias “TIME CAPSULE” can’t be opened because the original item can’t be found."
I then have three options - Delete Alias - which gives me "The item “TIME CAPSULE” can’t be moved to the Trash because it can’t be deleted."
Or - Fix Alias - which gives me a chance to navigate to the TC but it's all greyed out.
Or - Okay - which it plainly isn't!
I really hoped Apple would fix this. I have another Mac running Leopard and it mounts Time Capsule on my desktop and all it's files are accessible just like any other external drive - exactly how I want it!
cheers

  • Save to time capsule - drive not showing up

I am new to i-movie (latest version). I ask to see the hard drives because I want to put all my projects and events onto timecapsule. It shows my time capsule in the list of drives once the programme loads but with a hazard symbol. When I create a new movie, only my internal hard drive shows up in the place to select where you want to save to.
How do I save on time capsule?

And according to this link you can't use the USB port to mount Time-Capsule.

  • Time capsule does not show the blue bars near backing up.  Any idea why?

Time Capsule is not showing that it is backing up.  Any idea why?

For some reason it was going in a loop.  Support had me omit some com.apple....plist files.  Retarted and Tiime Capsule started as though it had never seen the external hard drive.  I set it up again and it worked fine.
    Thank you,

  • Hard drive not showing up on desktop

My hard drive is not showing up on desktop. Hardisc repair says drive is not formatted yet would not format drive or failed after initial attempt. I did put the same drive into USB external case and then it showed up on desktop. I then was able to format disc and install OS 9.2 onto disc but when I reinserted disc into Lombard (Powerbook G3 M5343) it was back to not appearing and identifying disc as not formatted.
When I turn on -getting a prompt that says built in memory test says there is something wrong with memory cashe could this have something to do with problem?
I don't think there is a problem with Motherboard as I just replaced it. I also don't think it is the drive cable as it identifies drive and also I have a "spare-parts" Lombard with a defective motherboard and I tried attaching drive with that drive cable and still had the same problem. Unless both drive ribbons are defective -I assume not...but maybe that could be the problem?
    Any ideas?

    Richard,
You do have a failure of the backside L2 cache, a common problem on the Lombard. This memory is soldered to the microprocessor card and the only fix is a replacement card.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=51159
I don't know if the failed L2 cache memory would cause a problem with the HD on the internal IDE bus controller; it apparently does not via the USB bus.
Generally, users who have the failed L2 cache do not have a successful startup unless they reset the power manager. Try this: With the Lombard turned off, reset the power manager and see if it will start up to the internal HD. If no success, shut down, insert your OS 9.2 CD, reset the power manager, and see if the HD appears on the desktop after booting to the CD.

  • External drive not showing up on desktop

I have an external hard drive (2T Newertech ministack). We had a power outage the other day. Even though the drive is on it no longer appears on the desktop. I went to Disk Utility and see if it could be repaired but the drive is not even showing up there. Does this mean the ministack was fried by the outage or is there another way I can save it? And yes, the finder preferences are on for external drives to show up on desktop.

It's not likely it would be fried if it's connected to a UPS because then it would not lose power and crash. Have you tried disconnecting the device from the computer, rebooting the computer, then reconnecting the device?
Since you have another Mac try directly connecting the device to it and using Disk Utility to repair the drive. Then give it a try on the other computer.

  • My Time Capsule will not show up on my Macbook.

    Hey Everyone,
I was originaly needing to clear up some room on my MacBook and was looking at an external drive.  I ended up buying the Time Capsule becaue it could back up more than one device, I could hook a printer up to it, and my MacBook could back up wirelessly.  However, I am in the middle of a move and do not have access to a router to plug it in.  After searcing in here I was able to get it to display a green light by clicking "ignore" in a couple of places.  So now the light is no longer fashing amber but I cannot find it anywhere on my Mac.  Not in Time Machine, Disk Untility, Folder window - no where.  Is there any way to set it up and use it without having it plugged in to the Internet?  I currently have it hooked up to my MacBook with an ethernet cord.  I would like to transfer my old backups from a smaller external harddrive, but at this point, I can't even get Time Machine to recognize it so that I could back up now.
    Thanks for your help.

Factory reset the TC.. make sure there is no other connection to the Mac.
It should now be able to find the TC .. if not something is faulty.

  • USB thumb drives not showing up on desktop.

After updating to 10.4.7 last week, when I insert a USB drive it does not show up on the desktop or in the finder. When I open System profiler and click on USB it shows up there but I have no way to mount the drives.
Is this something that happened to anyone else or am I alone in this?
When I plug in a USB mouse into the ports it works fine so the USB is working, just not mounting the drives. I am able to mount the drives in other macs I have here.

You might check your Finder preferences and make sure
you're allowing removeable to appear on the Desktop.
Nope checked that and the boxes are all checked.
Tried plugging my iPod in using the USB cable and still does not show up. Does not even show up in iTunes.
Also tried plugging in a firewire drive and that does not mount either. And the iPod also does not mount using firewire.
    This is really getting frustrating!!!
Weird thing is it shows up under firewire & USB in system profiler.

  • Time capsule disks not showing folders.

I only use time capsule as a hard drive source. But after i upgraded to mavericks i cannot access any folders I saved in my time capsule disk cause they just won't appear on finder. I have a picture to help you genius understand a bit clearer. Can anyone please help??? Thanks in advance.

I have NOT upgraded.. and will not until it has done a few updates.. due to exactly the fun and games you are having..
There is a major issue with the change in Mavericks to using SMB as preferred protocol.
    Eject the TC..
Manually mount the TC.. using go, connect to server.
    AFP://TCname or APF://TCIPaddress
    Or use
    CIFS://TCname etc.
Is your TC available via airport utility? Is it on 7.6.4 firmware.. if not update??

  • OsX Mavericks and Time Capsule Drive not connecting

    Hi,
I upgraded to Mavericks today and I am now trying to access my 2 TB Time Capsule Hard Drive. I get an error that says: There was a Problem connecting to "XXXX Time Capsule" Server. I also use the Time Capsule for my wireless network, which is working fine. When I go into the AirPort Utility and try to see the Time Capsule info it constantly asks me to put in my password and once I do nothing happens, but the password request appears again in a few minutes. Both my iPhoto and iTunes libraries are stored on my Time Capsule as well as my Time Machine Backups. It has not been able to perform backups either, since it cannot connect to the disk. I am running a MacBook Pro 2010.
Has anyone else had this problem thus far? Is there a workaround for this or an update I should do?
    Thanks!!

    Howdy seanay89,
It sounds like you are unable to make a Time Machine backup becuse the disk is not connecting correctly. I want to recommend these links from the article named:
    Time Machine: Troubleshooting backup issues
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3275
Red "i" message: "The backup volume could not be mounted" or "The backup volume could not be found." appears when using network volume or Time Capsule
Time Capsule: Time Machine backups do not mount
Mac OS X 10.5.3 or later: Time Machine - "Backup volume could not be mounted" after changing network volume's password
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Some External Drives not showing up on Desktop

I have 3 external drives hooked up to my Macbook for backup; a 120 GB Firewire external hard drive (Mac formatted), an 80 GB USB 2 external hard drive (Dos formatted), and a 256 MB Thumb Drive (Mac formatted).
Here's the problem. Sometimes after a restart all 3 drives show on the Desktop. Other times after a restart, the 120 GB and the 80 GB will show on the desktop. The 256 MB is nowhere to be seen and thus unusable for backup. And other times after a restart, the 120 GB and the 256 MB will show but the 80 GB is nowhere in sight and thus unusable.
How can I get all 3 drives to always show up on the desktop after restarts?

    Hi Alan,
Have you shut down your Mac and disconnected your firewire cables from both ends and let it sit about ten minutes then reconnect and try. Also, it is important to disconnect the AC power to your Mac, to reset the FireWire port(s).

  • Time capsule drive not recognized

I have installed my Time Capsule using Airport.
    The internet connection works fine.
But unfortunately the capsule doesn't recognize the hard disk (or another drive connected via USB on the capsule).
The drives were available in earlier cases, but not always!.
    Hope you can help,
    Peter

The drives were available in earlier cases, but not always!.
Sorry but this is difficult to follow.. in what cases were the drives available.. ?? When were they not available?
The USB drive must be FAT32 or HFS+ formatted.. and it must be GUID partitioned but that seems less of an issue. It is very possible you need a powered hub, as the TC does have port issues.. and it has nothing to do with the powered drive.. it still needs a powered hub.. and just to be fun.. not all powered hubs work. There is a limited number of drivers in the TC.. the powered hub that works on a Mac does not necessarily work on the TC.

  • Time Capsule does not show backups but

Timw Capule does not show backups but the Time Machine Preferences shows the dates of the oldest and latest backups.  I shortened the name of the Time Capsule even though it was not over 27 letters.  Sill can not see any backups when I enter Time Machine.  It only shows NOW.
This occurred today, June 1st.  I has a problem when I connected for the first time in May and it eliminated all prior backups for over 6 months and began with a total new backup.  It does not seem to like new months.

This problem is typical of Time Machine on Mavericks.. have you upgraded a computer. When you started using Mavericks it will probably destroy all your old backups. But if you are trying to find a particular file, use the method in Pondini here to open the sparsebundle in Finder. You will not see anything via the TM in Mavericks.
    http://pondini.org/TM/15.html
You can and should read all the FAQ from 14-17 to understand other options for accessing old backups.

  • One of My Hard Drives not showing up ion desktop

    Hi
I've got one internal hard drive that will just not show up on the desktop or finder windows I can see it in disk utilities and everything is ok it was working no problems yesterday but since I have had to do a reformatting of my system disk and reinstall leopard and then snow leopard as my system hard had been case sensitive formatted which was causing some trouble with some software not being able to be installed, so after a complete fresh install I now cannot see one of the 3 hard drive that is in my Mac, any ideasTTFN
    Subcoustic

if you can see it in spotlight then you should be able to use the go menu. I suspect you are entering the path incorrectly. the drive might have a hidden flag. run the following terminal command
    sudo chflags 0 /volumes/*
you'll have to enter your admin password (which you won't see). that's normal. see if the drive shows up after that.

  • External Hard Drive/Not Showing Up on Desktop

I have a G4, running OS X 10.2.8 and recently my kids deleted some important data. So--we bought an external hard drive (WD MyBook 160 GB Essential Edition, which says on the box that it runs 10.2.8 and higher).
We took the external hard drive and the computer to a reputable repair place, the guy there took the hard drive out and using a G6 system, restored what he could to the external hard drive.
We bring it home, plug it in, and the computer is not reading the new external hard drive. I did check in disk utility, and it shows up as a greyed out item on the disk utility.
The external hard drive does show up when hooked up to my husband's office PC.
Any ideas as to why this is happening and how to correct it?
    Thanks, Ruth

OK, I figured it out (in case anyone else needs to know) with this information from the Western Digital site:
Macintosh Operating System 10.3.x or earlier will only recognize FAT32 partitions that are smaller than 128-gigabytes. Multiple FAT32 partitions smaller than 128-gigabytes will need to be created in order for Macintosh Operating System 10.3.x or earlier to recognize the partitions. You will need to use a Windows based computer to create FAT32 partitions, as Macintosh does not have the ability to create them.
Macintosh Operating System 10.4.x or later can recognize FAT32 partitions over 128-gigabytes.
