Time Capsule Dual Band Mode Connection Timeout

So, after picking up a 500GB Time Capsule the other day I was trying to set up a network in dual band mode, I had it running with no issues for about a day, my MBP, wife's MB, and Apple TV connected with no issue. After that day I lost connection and upon trying to re-connect to the 5 GHz side I immediately get a connection timeout. It is updated to 7.4.2, and MBP, MB, and Apple TV are all up to date. Anyone else seen this or have a resolution?

Apple needs to create a configuration tool that configures all the Apple devices one owns by creating a network diagram using drag and drop symbols...
Sounds like a cool suggestion. If you want Apple to hear it, go to www.apple.com/feedback/timecapsule.html

  • Extend my Time Capsule (Dual Band) network

Hi, I need to extend my Time Capsule (Dual Band) network as currently the Time Capsule is downstairs connected to a modem and I need to connect my Blu-ray player via ethernet to the internet which is upstairs.
I came across the following article from Apple http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4259 if I follow this will I be able to use the ethernet ports on the AEBS?
Also do I need to purchase an AEBS or is there another router i.e. Linksys or D-Link?
    Cheers

Apple's "extend a wireless network" will enable the ethernet ports on the "remote" device in addition to providing more wireless coverage in the area where the remote device will be located.
Be sure to check to make sure that there will be a good wireless signal where the "remote" device is to be located by moving your laptop to the proposed location and logging on the wireless to make sure that you get a good, stable internet connection.
If you cannot get a good wireless signal at this location, you'll need to look at an ethernet connection method to allow communications between the devices.
It is extremely unlikely that the "extend" setup would work with devices from other manufacturers, so it would be wise to stay with the same manufacturer on any type of "main" and "remote" wireless setup.

  • Time Capsule not Broadcasting Properly/Connection Timeout

Help!! Please!! My time capsule's wireless networking capability seems to have gone kaput. I can no longer connect any of my devices to the wireless network. The time capsule wireless network appears in the list of available networks, but none of my devices are able to connect to the network there is a connection timeout each time I attempt to connect. I've tried a hard rest and have reconfigured the time capsule from scratch. Does anyone have any idea what is going on?
    Thanks.

If you connect your Mac to the Time Capsule using an ethernet connection, are you able to open AirPort Utility - Manual Setup?
If yes, click the Wireless tab below the row of icons
Change the Channel setting (it may be on Automatic now) to another setting and jot down the Channel number(s) you are using. Start at the high end of the channels. Try some different settings to see if you can find some clear airspace.
It may be that you have a neighbor who may have installed a wireless security system and/or cameras.
Any cordless phones there? Try turning them all off for a period as a test and then restarting your network to see if that makes any difference in your connection ability.
Assuming that the wireless on the Time Capsule is working properly (it will likely work perfectly if you take it to the Apple store), some kind of interference is likely causing your problems.
Some time ago, I had issues on my wireless with intermittent slowdowns and stalls. I could not figure out what the problem was until by accident, I noticed my neighbor...across the street....coming out of his house talking on his cordless phone when my wireless crashed. Nothing would work on the wireless.
It took some coaxing, but I was able to convince him to leave his phone(s) in the house and not use them outside. No problems since.

  • New MacBook (Aluminum), new Time Capsule (Dual-Band), backups not working

My Mom got a new (refurbished) 13.3" MacBook (Aluminum) and new (not refurbished) Time Capsule 500 GB (Dual-Band.) The Time Capsule is working great for wireless internet and we can copy files to and from it, but Time Machine backups are not working. I enabled Time Machine, selected her TC, and then when it tries to backup it sits at the preparing stage for a little while and then gives a very unhelpful "the backup failed" message. Unfortunately I don't have the exact error message, but it never gets out of the preparing phase. It doesn't stay in preparing forever, it only stays there for a minute or so before it gives up and reports the backup failed message and stops. It's unclear to me, searching these forums, if this problem is the same as others are reporting.
I've tried turning off Time Machine and back on, removing and reselecting the Time Capsule, etc. Nothing makes a difference. There are no backup files on the TC - it's brand new.
This happened out of the box, but I also tried installing the latest Time Capsule firmware. It didn't help.

  • Time Capsule (Dual Band), iTunes and tv

    Here is my little story.
I had an airport extreme, with a usb disk holding my iTunes library. I run two tv's (wirelessly) and things were fine. At times iTunes would give me a spinning beach ball, but streaming tv shows and movies to the tv,s worked well.
    Then came 7.4.1 (airport extreme)
Streaming tv or movies became impossible with tv re buffering every 30 secs.
Downgrading to 7.3.x fixed the problem.
Being an apple tragic and living 650 klm's from my wife and children, I convinced myself that I needed a new toy, so of to the apple shop (150 klm's away) to get the new dual band extreme. I didn't even think of the firmware issue, thinking the new one would just work!!!
Somehow I left the store with a shiny new 1TB TC (blast apple)
Well of course after waiting 6 hours for my itunes library to transfer to TC, I fired up the tv and set about watching an episode of Damages.
Unfortunately the TC and firmware version 7.4 (shipping firmware) was as bad as the external disc and the airport extreme on 7.4.1
I upgraded the TC firmware to 7.4.1, there is no before 7.4, blindly think this might fix things, but no luck.
I reverted to plugging in the usb disk and running iTunes via the TC to the usb drive, again no luck, stop start streaming.
I then plugged the usb disk into my laptop and surprises surprise, streaming via network to tv was flawless, like my good old days.
Not a long term solution, I have spent two days reading all the posts on 7.4.1, TC and tv.
Tonight I hooked up the extreme, connected it via cable to the TC, turned off the extreme radio and plugged the usb disk in to the extreme. the extreme is running 7.3.x.
Pointed iTunes to the library on the usb disk, sat down and watched the episode of Damages.
Amazingly this arrangement works, and streaming is smooth.
Now I am no tech wizard, but something is clearly amiss with 7.4.1 and disks.
If anyone knows away to get the TC playing nice with streaming to the tv then it would be nice to hear, otherwise ebay will have to wait for the old extreme!
Anyway just wanted to share, after many frustrating hours.

Good post thanks for that. I agree something is wrong with 7.4.1 on both extreme and express as well. I had a lot of problems extending my network and only managed to fix things by reverting back to 7.3.x
I'm planning no getting TC and appletv soon, so l'm hoping the a revised software update emerges before then. It looks like you've had some real dramas.
    Good luck.

  • Time Capsule dual band version

How can i understood if Time capsule 1 Tb is new version (dual band) or not?
    I can't open the box!!
    TKS

If you can see the box, the new one is clearly marked "dual band". If you don't see this clearly, you are looking at the older version of the Time Capsule.

  • Is my Time Capsule dual-band or not?

Back in January 2009, I bought my first Mac (MacBook) and a Time Capsule. Getting hooked on Macs, I now also own a iMac and consider myself a Mac Lover.
    I have one question though.
Some days after I got my Time Capsule, I read the announcement of the dual-band Time Capsules (2.4 and 5 GHz). How on earth do I know if my Time Capsule supports both networks or not?
In Airport Utility I can select 2.4 or 5 GHz wireless, but I do not see a way to select both. I would be interested in maintaining two networks inside the house, one in 2.4 GHz for the iPhone and the other one in 5 GHz for the iMac and the MacBook.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry for the seemingly stupid question, but in Apple's literature the new Time Capsule is noted as "Early 2009". And since I got mine very ... early, I thought I would ask.
Thanks for your time, much appreciated.

  • Airport Extreme (Dual band) with Time Capsule (Dual band) Extension problem

    Hi
I have an airport extreme (dual band) set up with a dual band Time capsule extending the 5ghz band .. however the mac address that the time capsule says its using is the 2.4ghz band.. I only noticed this while setting up static IP addresses on my network... does this mean it is extending the 5ghz network on a 2.4 ghz band? how do i set it up to just extend the 5ghz properly.. any clarification would be appreciated.
    thanks in advance

  • Airport/Time Capsule dual-Band 802.11n wi-fi

I have new macbook laptop. +Dell XPS 420 desktop Vista. I use Mediacom Cable modem , I purchased new Time Capsule/Airport A77262. Internet works on Dell and internet works on laptop.
problem: book says use Airport Utility.,set up as base station, book says click on manual set-up for security to keep out others in bldg from using my router. All is greyed out for me to choose.I reset.....put in capsule id # and get "ERROR6753". also when scanning for wireless devices....it comes up "can't find"(even when laptop is in my lap in front of desktop. I want to have security so my two DELLS and MY GREAT MACBOOK are only ones using router. when I pull up network on MacBook it only show "linksys" not the Airport A77262. CAN anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? should I call Apple?

Try connecting the Mac to the Airport with an Ethernet cable, turn off the wireless on the Mac as well and then run the Airport Utility, you should be able to configure it.
If you have no luck then follow the instructions for resetting the Airport and try again with the Ethernet cable.

  • How do I configure my time capsule to DHCP mode?  I had to replace my DSL router, had a network set up before.

I recently had to replace my DSL router.  My provider, Earthlink, walked me through the setup and I do have internet access if I connect directly to my Mac.  When I tried to use my time capsule, it would not work.  The Earthlink tech said I needed to reconfigure my time capsule to DHCP mode.  I tried the set up manual and could not make sense of it.  My 90 free service is long gone.

and the text in the router mode box came up DHCP and NAT, but the lettering was in a lighter shade than elsewhere and I could not open the drop down box.
You would have had to change some other settings on the AirPort to be able make changes in the drop down Router Mode box.
Your AirPort is already configured as Earthlink suggests.
Try powering off the entire network...all devices....in any order you want
    Wait a few minutes
Start the Earthlink modem first and let it run 2-3 minutes by itself
Start the Time Capsule and let it run a full minute
Keep starting other devices the same way until everything is powered back up
    Check the network
If still no improvement, I think you need to let Earthlink know that you have done as they asked, and ask for more steps to try.
Hopefully, another Earthlink user will see this post and offer any special information or tips that only they would know.

  • Time Capsule dual wireless routers issues

I have a TimeWarner cable modem in the closet with a net gear 8port router connected where are all my cat5 cables drop in for our home.
I have a Cisco wireless router in the living room running wifi to iPads, iPhones, etc. That router has a cat5 cable going to my Apple Tv and everything is working fine.
I purchased a Time capsule to backup my macbook air and hooked it up to my office via cat5 and connected it's wifi to connect to my iPad when I'm in there since connectivity is sometimes slow to my Cisco wireless router.
Here's the problem. I can't get the Time Capsule to work at the same times as my Cisco wireless router. Each time I reset the modem it picks only one to connect to. My time capsule says no internet connectivity but the cat5 to my Thunderbolt shows "display ethernet" connected but I cannot access the internet.
A buddy said it's an IP address issue and they're trying to share one and that can't happen.
    Please advise.
    thanks.
    cp

I assume that you have checked the Ethernet cable this connected to the Time Capsule and verified that it is functioning correctly. The Time Capsule would be configured to "Create a wireless network" if you want it to provide a wireless network. If you do not want the Time Capsule to provide a wireless network, then you would set the Network Mode to "Off".
To enable Bridge Mode,  under the setting for Router Mode would be "Off (Bridge Mode)"
Click Update to save the settings and the Time Capsule will restart.

  • I just replaced the hard drive for my Mac Pro, and I am trying to restore what is on my Time Capsule, but it wont connect, and only is giving me the pinwheel of death. What do i do?

I just replaced the hard drive for my Mac Pro, and I am trying to restore what is on my Time Capsule, but it wont connect, and only is giving me the pinwheel of death. What do i do?

You will need to boot from some alternate boot device to accomplish this, if you did not initialize the drive before installing it.
If you have another Mac, you may be able to use FireWire target disk mode.
If your MacBook has a DVD reader and you have a Mac OS X Installer/Utilities DVD, such as the one that shipped with it, you can boot from that DVD, answer only the "what Language" question, and wait a quarter minute for the MenuBar to be drawn. Then examine the Utilities menu or the Installer menu and Find Disk Utility.

  • How do I set up the Time Capsule without an internet connection

How do I set up the Time Capsule as a wireless hard drive without an internet connection.   I am in a office situation in which I cannot access my work network.  I need to be able to share files on the Time Capsule over the wire connection.

Are you using a v6 uitlity.. because it is a toy.. ??
Get v5 utility and then you can hold down the option key and select the right mode.
If you have lion, just install it.. For ML follow this.
How to load 5.6 into ML.
    1. Download 5.6 for Lion.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Click to open the dmg but do not attempt to install the pkg.. it won't work anyway.
    2. Download and install unpkg.
    http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
Run unpkg on the desktop.. it is very simple.. drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. drill down.. applications utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.
You cannot uninstall 6.1 so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. so just ignore the toyland version.. the plastic hammer.. and start using 5.6.. a real tool.

  • Time Capsule is losing internet connection

Brand new Time Capsule that replaced my old one that the power supply burned out on.
At least once a week I have to restart the Time Capsule from the Airport utility because my internet connection stops.
Everything in the Airport utility is staying green, but my connection stops loading pages on our computers and iPhones.
A reset gets it to start working for a while
My internet service is from Comcast and I am running my Time Capsule in bridge mode because my Comcast home security requires it's own Netgear router to run in front of it from the modem. These are my current settings. Hopefully someone has been had this issue and was able to resolve it.
    Bridge Mode
    WPA2 Personal security
    Connect using DHCP
Configure IPv6 Automatically with IPv6 Mode Native
The Radio and channels are all set to automatic

There is nothing much you can do.. it is a combo of 7.6.1 firmware on the TC and the OS on the computer.. but it is just not stable.
In bridge and using wireless I can suggest a few things.. but nothing I know can fix it.
Once a week reboot is better than most where it is daily.
