Time capsule error 11 - as listed in console log

I haven't been able to do a wireless backup in about a month. The last times this has happened, I reset the TC and started all over with an ethernet backup. This is not a solution I want to use every month or so - it's not worth all the trouble because my TC is a long way from my computer. Could you check the following log and see if it's a file that is screwing up the backup. That appears to be the same problem for other people in the forums. Thanks!

Thanks, yes just done that and it works OK. It is installed alongside AU 6.0 and appears in the Applications/Utilities folder as Airport Utility 5.6.app. Neat!
It was the advanced tab that is missing in 6.0. This provides access to "Logs and Statistics", which is what I wanted to see.

Time Capsule error 22 - My time capsule was working fine and didn't notice anything wrong with it until it stopped backing up about two weeks ago. I never changed anything like computer names or the Airport settings. All I get is the following:
The backup disk image "/Volumes/Data/Linda's Computer 1.sparsebundle" could not be created (error 22).
I tried resetting the Time Capsule and connecting with an ethernet cable, although the Ariport Utility says everything is working fine through WiFi.

If the light will not turn on the TC is dead. No matter that the hard disk is running.. it should only run at start up or when it is accessed not constantly.. that means the board in the TC has failed. Apple do not repair them.. They will replace it under warranty or applecare.
If you have gone over the 12month warranty it will still be covered if you have applecare on any computer or an Apple TV. In fact the cost of the apple TV plus apple care is still cheaper than buying a new TC.. so it is a route some people are taking.. certainly depends.. in some places like Europe or Australia now, there is a recognition that statutory warranty must be longer on a product that is premium to the market. 12months is not good enough. Apple will sometimes listen.
They might be fixable but I do not know how.

  • Time capsule error 111

    hey
im having a problem with my time capsule error 111
worked fine until last week and i heard it was an error with lion which i upgraded 6 months ago and worked fine until last week.
I've tried some of the things said on these discussion boards but until now nothing....any other suggestions??
    thanks in advance

I bought MacBook air last June 2011 with snow leopard os, then bought 3rd Gen time capsule 2tb. Tried to use it as backup but error 109 appeared. Then, I tried all tips in the net but nothing happened. I upgraded to lion os, tried to reinstall and back up again but error 111 appeared. Now my time capsule is just a router and one big paper weight. This apple product is an epic fail. It's really frustrating.

Restart it.. Does this all the time with Lion and even worse ML.
Restart the whole network if that doesn't work.. do it in correct order.. from off.. modem.. TC.. clients 2min gap.

  • Time Capsule Error:  Unable to complete backup...

For the past two days I've been getting the following Time Capsule Error message whenever it attempts to back up my system, "Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while creating the backup directory." I can't get any more information about the error than that. If I reset my TC, will it lose all of my previous backups? Restarting my Mac didn't help. All other functions are fine, i.e. WiFi is good and I can still print to my printer hooked up to it. Any ideas?

I'm having the exact same problem. If a b/u does kick off, it shuts down the Mac. I get the darkened screen with the window that says a reset is required.
Anyone know how to fix this?

A simple reboot of the whole network.. from off.. modem .. router/TC.. clients.. 2min gap will probably fix it.
If it keeps happening, tell us your OS. (Most likely Mountain Lion.. which has networking ability of wet string and a pair of tin cans).

It can also be the backup is corrupt and needs repair.

This is not related to your problem,, rather it is slow backups.

  • Time Machine / Time Capsule Error: Backup disk image could not be mounted

So I'm trying to back up to time machine, which used to be working fine, but I have this problem happening on two computers now (which probably means the error is in my Time Capsule.)
The Time Capsule shows up on my "shared" list in my finder windows.
I can connect to it, and open the folder inside, and SEE my two disk image files in there.
But Time Machine gives me a "The Backup Disk Image Could Not Be Mounted" error. No other information.
If I double-click on the disk image file directly, I get an error "The Following disk images failed to mount" and then it lists the file and says "Resource temporarily unavailable."
    Help, please.

I'm caught in the same loop, with no end in sight. I've only been using Time Machine and Time Capsule for 2 months. This week it stopped working. First error message:
"Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while copying files to the backup volume."
Checking the Time Machine preferences, "Last backup" would read "backup failed"
When I got this error, all the wireless functions went offline, even thought the TC light was still green.
I would shut down, shut down the Time Capsule, shut off my modem reboot everything in order.
    Next error message:
"Disk repair. The disk 'Backup of [my computer]' was not repairable by this computer. It is being made available to you with limited functionality. You must backup your data and reformat the drive."
Then: "Time Machine Error: The backup volume is read only. To select a different volume ... Time Machine preferences ... "
I spoke to someone at Apple, who sent me the Time Machine Troubleshooting page:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3275?viewlocale=en_US
    I went through:
    1. updated my system software
    2. updated the TC firmware to 7.4.1
    3. dragged the sparsebundle to DiskUtility. It took a while (more than an hour?) but said the disk could not be repaired. When I tried again, the repair function wouldn't run.
    4. tried to delete the sparsebundle, but it would choke at almost the end, sometimes it would just crash the finder, sometimes say "Sorry, an unexpected error occurred," sometimes "Operation cannot be completed because the item 'bands' is in use." I even tried to Stuff the bundle with 'delete original' checked, but the stuffing, after about 15 hours, jammed near the end (stuffed 20 gigs of 35 gigs).
    5. tried to reselect the TC, and run backup anyways ... now it can't find the volume, back to the error messages and crashing Finder
    6. checked password in Keychain, all ok.
    Now what??
Do I use Airport Utility to erase it? At least TC is still showing up there. Or press the rest button on the back of the Time Capsule to reset to factory defaults?
I've resigned myself to losing my backups. Now I would just like to get it up and running again.
    In hopes,
    Linda

  • Time Capsule Error - Disk not Avalable

Just got a new 1TB Dual band Time Capsule. Wireless works, can see the disk on the time capsule, and use Time Machine to select the disk to use for backup. Thing is, when I enter the password and click ok, the fields like "Available, Oldest backup, etc., fill in, then go blank. When it try to back up it errors out. Then the icon in the menu bar shows an triangle with and exclamation point in it. Any ideas how to fix it?

    Figured it out.
It seems as though you have to tell the time machine which user accounts have access to the time capsule. Specify the account name, as listed in your user accounts, with password. If you do this it will allow the time capsule to work.

  • Time capsule error: Time Machine could not be configured. The built-in network interface could not be found.

Trying to install a new time capsule. I get access to the time capsule via Finder and I am able to surf the web. • Time Machine Won't Backup to Time Capsule Error 22

Every time I click "Back up now" on my MacBook, after saying "Making Backup Disk Available" for 2-3 minutes it gives me error 22. I finally looked up in the console what was going on and this is what it says...
    7/8/10 10:32:08 PM com.apple.backupd[3865] Starting standard backup
7/8/10 10:32:08 PM com.apple.backupd[3865] Attempting to mount network destination using URL: afp://Stephen%[email protected]/Time%20Capsule

    7/8/10 10:36:36 PM com.apple.backupd[3865] Backup failed with error: 19
I have no idea what it is saying but has something to do with NetAuthConnectToServerSync. I also noticed that it says error 2 and error 19 in the console and never anything about error 22 which it keeps giving me after trying to back up.
Please help, I have not been able to back up my Mac for months now.
I have tried everything, erasing the time capsule disk 5 times now, reset the settings on the time capsule to default and then reset it up again, tried reinstalling Snow Leopard on my mac 3 times now, rebooted my mac, rebooted my time capsule. Nothing works. One time I got it to start backing up but stopped at about 700mb and stopped and gave me error 22.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Time Capsule Errors

I have a 250gb TC that refuses to complete backups, usually w/ Error 11. Steps I have tried after reviewing these forums:
    1. Wiped my MacBook completely and did a fresh install of Mac OS 10.5.7. Still failed to make initial backup.
    2. Wiped my Time Capsule drive w/ "zero out" erase function.
    3. Used console/terminal to identify the specific error messages. Usually an Error 11 but the files or apps seem to keep changing.
    4. I have either deleted the suspect Error 11 file or excluded the file/program from the backup. Sometimes it is the itunes or iweb application itself.
    Please help. Thanks.

    Hi Tim,
I was having a similar problem with my iMac & TC--numerous hard resets and unpluggings and still got the same error. I spent an hour on the phone with Rodney at Apple Tech Support, who talked me through what seems (thus far) to be a solution.
First, we did a factory reset on the TC, and turned off Airport on the iMac. Then, we ran an ethernet cable from my DSL modem (2Wire) to the WAN port on TC, then a second ethernet cable from TC to the iMac. (This works for me because of my office configuration; if you need to have TC connected wirelessly to your primary machine this post may not help.) We then used the Airport setup wizard (the default sequence, no manual config) to set up a new wireless network with a different name from my previous one (run off of Airport Express). Even though the TC and iMac are ethernetted together, we picked "Set up new wireless network" because I want TC to be my new base station. And we picked DHCP as the connection method, if that was a point of confusion for you as it had been for me. (In the final setup, it said that I was connected via ethernet and DHCP.) There were a few popup boxes alerting us to possible errors along the way, but we just selected ignore in all of them.
After we had this connection running as an open wireless network, we tested the connection with my iBook, and it worked fine. The next step was to go back into Airport Setup, select the TC, click on manual config, and set up the wireless security. (I had to do it this way as I need WEP security for PC access.)
So far, then, so good. Of course, there are some kinks still to be worked out--my Airport Express is not yet linked in to the wireless network and I haven't yet tried to use TM.
But this did at least get the TC set up and the internet on and running through it as a single-station wireless network. (I'm leaving the Airport off on the iMac for now.)
Maybe this will be of use to other frustrated Mackies out there.

  • Time Capsule Error:  Out of the box and unable to complete initial backup

I have bought a new 500gig Time Capsule a week ago and have been experiencing problems completing an initial backup. I have been following similar threads and have taken recommendations to look at the console. Below is a typical example of what I have found happens before Time Capsule/Machine crashes.
    Aug 31 11:49:55 macbook /System/Library/CoreServices/backupd[5965]: Error: (-36) copying /Applications/iWeb.app/Contents/Resources/Themes/Kids Pink.webtheme/Shared/dv1679003_A.jpg to /Volumes/Backup of macbook/Backups.backupdb/macbook/2008-08-31-105555.inProgress/5F6873B6-0869-411 6-BA84-A962B534EFAF/Macintosh HD/Applications/iWeb.app/Contents/Resources/Themes/Kids Pink.webtheme/Shared
    Aug 31 11:49:55 macbook /System/Library/CoreServices/backupd[5965]: Stopping backup.
I have attempted to exclude the iWeb application from backup but, after I reset the TIme Capsule, erase the previous (uncompleted) backup and commence the initial backup, the console shows that the backup encounters yet another problem with another " .lproj " file.
I have attempted to search for all files with the .lproj file extension but finder doesn't seem to be able to locate them all. It also seems a bit pointless to exclude all of these when the idea is for Time Capsule to do a full backup of the complete system.
    Need help, please!

Try using Disk Utillity to repair permission first. I appears Time Machine is choking on the file "dv1679003_A.jpg". If it's just a permissions issue that will fix it. Otherwise, drag that file to the trash (without emptying it yet) and try backing up again.

  • Time Capsule error when interrupting a regular hourly backup

Okay... So it's supposedly common knowledge that if you interrupt an hourly Time Capsule backup (not the big initial one) by putting your Macbook to sleep, the next time you wake your computer up Time Machine is supposed to just pick up where it left off. Right?
Not for me. I got Time Capsule right when it was released and it worked like a charm for a whole entire month... Until one day I made the mistake of interrupting one of its backups. When I got back to my computer I got an error saying the backup could not be completed. I thought it was no big deal until I actually tried to start a backup again. First it stayed on "Preparing" for a long time... Then a similar error message. I tried again and again and got nothing but error messages. Nothing I tried worked.
I decided to erase the Time Capsule disk and start over, essentially losing a month's worth of backups. Once again it worked for a few days until once again I put my Mac to sleep while it was doing a regular backup. Once again, coming back to my computer resulted in an error message. Once again it couldn't recover no matter what I did. I decided to try again from scratch, erased the drive, did the big backup.
Today, after three days of it working just fine, I had to leave my house in the middle of a backup. I paused for a moment wondering if I should do it, but then thought, what the ****, you're SUPPOSED to be able to interrupt it.
Um, no. Error message again. Except today I decided to run Disk Utility on it, which did work in reviving its backup abilities... HOWEVER something very strange happened. Spotlight started indexing the backup disk image-- something I'm pretty sure is not supposed to happen. It insisted on doing this every time I mounted the disk image, and only when it was finished indexing would it agree to dismount itself after backing up (like it's supposed to). Aside from that, Time Machine no longer asks for my password when I choose the Time Capsule disk... It just chooses it. It also doesn't alert me when I delete a file stored inside the Time Capsule disk (to tell me it will be permanently deleted) but instead sends it to the trash. And when recovering a file from Time Machine, the disk image doesn't dismount itself once it's done-- I have to do it manually.
In short, it's not acting normal, as far as I can tell.
    So my question is twofold:
    1) why the **** can't I interrupt the backup without getting an error? It's not supposed to work this way. Does this work for anyone else?
    2) What the **** happened to the disk image now that I've got it to work again? It backs up fine and everything but it's acting weird.
Thanks... Hope someone has any clue what this all means!

I have a very similar issue. Spotlight is now indexing the backup volume on Time Capsule, and it is taking forever.
Nobody else using Time Machine / Time Capsule here? I can't believe that.
