Time capsule intermittently disconnects

I have an intermittent problem with my time capsule. I will be working on my Imac G5 and the mail or safari will not load. The connection my then connect to a neighbors network and then I can continue working. Funny thing is that I am still connect with my ipod touch (inches from my mac) and it is working flawlessly. Sometimes I have to log into the Join other Networks for it to find it again.
Part 2, The opposite often occurs, Somethings the imac can see the network perfectly and the ipod does not. The ipod can not find the network even if I carry the ipod to within inches to the time capsule
I have restarted the time capsule several times. the green light is always on, My software is all up to date, My connections strength are always strong on both device when they are working.
Is the time capsule defective?

Gnorm,
*_Time Capsule Weak Signal Strength_*
Forgive the size of the post, but the suggestions below have helped others with similar issues. Try each topic individually and see if things improve, If not move on to the next one.
*Keep the Time Capsule Cool*
Some posters have observed that when they positioned the Time Capsule for better ventilation and cooling, their network connectivity issues resolved themselves. Also avoid locating the devise within poorly ventilated cabinets or piling items around or on top of it.
*Time Capsule Orientation*
While the location you chose to setup your Time Capsule may be acceptable, but the direction it is oriented can have an effect on signal strength. It appears that the signal of the Time Capsule does not radiate equally from all sides of the devise.
The antennas within the devise are positioned along the 3 smooth sides. That is, there is no antenna on the side bearing the ports and cables. As a result, position the devise with the ports and cables AWAY from the direction of most of the clients that will be connecting to it.
*Cordless Phones*
Some users have discovered that the cordless phones they have in the home occupy or are near the same bandwidth as their wireless network (2.4Ghz or 5Ghz). Try temporarily disabling the handsets and their bases and see if network connectivity improves. If so you may need to change the channel that the phone uses or purchase phones that occupy a different bandwidth.
*Preferred Networks & Airport Services*
You may be experiencing interference from other networks in your neighborhood. When you click the Airport menu are there other networks listed other than your own?
If so, is your network at the top of the list? It should be.
Go to System Preferences --> Network --> Select Airport on the left.
Click "Advanced". In the “Airport” tab note the various local wireless networks that Airport detects. Is the network you prefer to connect to at the top of the list? If not drag it to the top. Are there other networks you never intend to connect to (an old work network, or a neighbors network)? Then highlight them and click the "-" button.
Make sure “Remember any network this computer has joined” is checked.
Click "OK".
For "Network Name" be sure your network is selected and then click "Apply".
Is Airport (wireless) your primary means of connecting to your network? If so, is Airport at the top of the list of services on the left? It should be.
Click the small “Gear” button at the bottom of the window and select “Set Service Order”.
Now drag Airport to the top of the list.
Click “OK”. Click “Apply”.
Now see if network connectivity has improved.
*Transmit Power & Wide Channels*
If you are using the 802.11n only (5GHz) radio mode, you can also select to use wide channels, which provide higher data throughput in your network.
Launch Airport Utility
Select your Time Capsule on the left.
Click “Manual Setup”.
Select “Airport” in the toolbar.
Click the “Wireless” tab.
Click “Wireless Options...” at the bottom of the window.
Adjust the “Transmit Power” to 100%.
Put a check mark in the box labeled “Use Wide Channels”. (If you are using a 802.11a/b/g (2.4GHz) radio mode then select “Interference Robustness”)
Click “Done”.
Click “Update” in the lower right hand corner.
Wait for the Time Capsule to restart and then see if your network speeds improve.
Let us know if any of the above helped improve your situation.
Cheers!

My time capsule keeps disconnecting intermittently. I have reverted to an earlier firmware version (7.6.1) but this has not solved the problem. Any suggestions?

    Disconnecting what?
    Wireless?
    Internet?
Local lan? Hard disk in the TC?
    Pray be specific.
When it is disconnected how do you fix it?
If the computer is plugged in by ethernet and wireless turned off, does the problem stop?
There is a bug .. well several really in the networking of Mountain Lion.. which seems to be worse with the TC.
It will lose access to the hard disk on regular basis. and it is just that .. a bug.. a reboot of the TC fixes it.
Did you use all very short names for TC.. wireless and disk name?
Is the issue with Time Machine? Or what and how are you using the computer that causes the problem.
Pondini has listed several solutions or work arounds for TM. See C section of his KB. on troubleshooting.

  • Time Capsule keeps disconnecting while trying to backup or copy files, can someone please help me?

I have a MacBook Pro, a Desktop PC running Windows 7 and a wifi router connected to the Broadband Internet. All devices share the same local network.
My Time Capsule (early 4th Generation) is connected via ethernet directly to the modem, I'm also able to connect wirelessly.
I also have an external seagate 3t drive connected to the time capsule.
For some strange reason, my Time Capsule keeps disconnecting form the Network after I try to access the data either in the tc or the hd, however the light is always green.
The problem mainly happens when copying data either from my Windows PC or my MacBook Pro: eventually, the connection between it and the Time Capsule is lost, interrupting the copy. It keeps happening every time, after a while, and only gets fixed rebooting Windows and the Time Capsule. I can't copy my PC data.
I've tried soft and hard reset, the time capsule it's discoverable again and able to connect either via ethernet or wirelessly, however if I try to copy something to it or do a backup, it immedialty disconnects itself.
Can someone please try to help me solve this issue?
    Thanks

Wow! Thanks so much for such a prompt reply and for trying to help me, I really do appreciate it.
Your reply is so detailed because, unlike me, you are an expert, so I’ll try to answer the questions you are asking, however I’m not that good at computers so please be patient and excuse me.
    1. Network layout.
What is the wifi router you have??
Answer: I’m connected to the internet through my ISP (centurylink formely Qwest) modem, ZyXel Q1000Z, I went to my modem page and copied this for you, it hope it helpsModem Status

I presume this is modem as well.. please give all the details of the modem router .. make and model and what role it has in the network.. ie main router or bridged. If wireless is running what you do with it. Are devices connected to the modem router and so some devices are connected only indirectly to the TC?
    Answer:
Make and model listed above, not sure about the bridge thing but in the image above it says something about encapsulation, does that help? If the wireless is running, (I assume you are talking about TC) I usually backup my MBP and my Windows PC, I also have a Seagate 3T Connected to the TC and I save music, photos and files on it to share within my network. Yes there are tons of devices connected to the modem, eg. Mac, MBP, MAir, Ipads, AppleTVs, iphones, printers, etc. Although when I first set-up time capsule (about 1 ½ years ago) I created a wireless network connection, Nobody ever connects to that network to access the internet, the only person that connects to the TC is me and that will be either through my MBP or my pc.
I think I should mention that my ISP modem is connected to my PC through and Ethernet cable, although I connect wirelessly to it and my TC is also using an Ethernet cable to connect to the modem, however I sometimes connect to TC wirelessly. Not sure if you needed to know that be just in case.
What setup and role does the TC have.. ie is it router or in bridge. If the main modem is also router than the TC must be bridged.
    Answer: Not sure??
What firmware is the TC running?
    Answer: 7.6.4
Has this been stable in the past and now has failed.. or was it always bad?
Answer: Yes!, it used to be stable before, I really never had issues, this has happened since last November I think.
    2. Initial changes to get the ball rolling.
Let me strongly recommend you do these thing...
    Comment:
I’m about to do your recommendations after I finish typing this, however I thought I should mention that while on Windows 7, I am only able to see the TC on Airport Utility as soon as I unplug the TC and plug it back in, other than that TC doesn't show up on it, I am only able to see the TC through Windows Explorer/Network. Also sometimes while I’m doing something else, like being on the net, I notice the HD connected to the TC seems to be reading something
All SMB compatible names.. that is for windows to work properly.. so short.. 2-10 is plenty of characters.. but make 20 the limit, no spaces and pure alphanumeric. (This is narrow, but easy to remember).
    Comment:
When doing the factory reset do I need to this SMB thing? I’m a bit confused here, you are talking about me doing manually, so I can type something like this right?
    Good TC name. TCGen4
    Good 2.4ghz wireless name. TC24ghz
    Good 5ghz wireless name TC5ghz
Exactly what format is the USB drive? Is it partitioned GUID and formatted HFS+ on the Mac?? this is the only way really.
Answer: The Hard Drive connected to the TC is a Seagate 3t, I did do a partition GUID and half of it is to be used in my mac and the other in pc, I had no issues in the past with these partitions, I was able to save files from my MBP to the HD and from my PC to the HD, and then later able to see either files on both my mac or pc.
I use my TimeMachine to Backup on the TC and it backs up both the TC and the HD connect it to it, I then have another HD connected to my MBP and do another backup there, I have lost information in the past and that’s is why I do so many backups.
I also wanted to mention that most of the time the TC disappears from the network is when I try to copy something to it.
I'm also enclosing a couple of photos of my windows airport utility, I am not sure if they will help you know something, I deleted my name and Ip address.
    Thanks again LaPastenague

  • Time Capsule WiFi disconnects when a Fujitsu Siemen Laptop with b/g network

Time Capsule WiFi disconnects when a Windows Vista based Laptop with "b/g" network connects. When i use Macbook with "n" Network.
Surprising that TC and MacBook both from Apple can't stay connected when Fujitsu Siemens Laptop joins through WiFi.
I use a DSL Modem (Speed 1 Mbps) connected thru ethernet to Time Capsule on Bridge Mode.

Yes, n is better, but if you have it running on b/g/n (since you have to with your b/g only notebooks) the n is inactive. Kind of a waste. Others have resorted to adding another wireless router which one set to b/g/n and the other n-only.

  • ***Time Capsule intermittently losing internet connection***

    Hello, Here's the story:
My Time Capsule intermittently is losing internet connection. The light is green for 5-10 minutes at a time, then turns amber for 2 minutes and loses internet connection.
At first,..I thought it was the TC going bad. Went to my local Apple store and had it replaced under warranty.
Still,, the same situation was happening.
Then talked to AT&T (DSL) and they checked the connection. They deemed it was OK and possibly the modem going bad.
Went to Best Buy and purchased a new modem. Installed, put into Bridge Mode,...interenet working OK.
Still,...the same situation that it stays on for 5-10 minutes, then loses it for 2 minutes.
Any ideas? Could it still be the ISP (AT&T)?
Last thought,...my neighbor uses Uverse (AT&T) for his cable/ISP and he is expierincing cable/ISP outages ramdomly. I am using DSL (AT&T) too but through my phone line. Are the two possibly related?

You need to run the modem in router mode..
I would either bridge the TC or remove it completely because you need to get exact log info from the modem.
Do isolation test.. ie remove all phones and filters and other devices from your phone line. Reboot the modem.. and wait for restart to complete.
Copy out of the modem the full line stats, sync info and even better if you can get cli access and do some deeper level stuff.. (most of the tools I use are PC only.. ie dmt tools).
Then make sure the log is turned on and giving max info and watch your connection.. if it drops without anything happening on the modem,, then the ISP is having issues.. which is possible although connection of cable and adsl is loose or non-existent.
If it drops sync keep track of how often and the line stats, Particularly the SNR..
See if you have an rf noise source in the house.. more if you are interested.

  • Time Capsule intermittently drops connection

    Hello all.
Right around the release of Mountain Lion I started having issues with my Time Capsule.  I'm not sure the issue has anything to do with Mountain Lion directly since I didn't actually update until today thinking it may help solve my issue.  But basically, my TC intermittently drops the Internet connection just long enough to interrupt what I'm doing but comes back in just a few seconds.  For example, if I'm playing a game, the game server will disconnect me.  I wait about 30 seconds and then I can log back in.  If I'm browsing a website the page will just freeze and go blank or came back in just a few seconds depending on how long the signal seems to be gone.  The computer I'm on when this happens the most is not using wireless, I run an Ethernet cord directly to the TC since wireless is generally unreliable for gaming but I have experienced the issue on other devices.
My setup is my TC is being used as a router so it's connected directly to the modem from my ISP.  There are a few other devices directly plugged into the TC and a few that use it wirelessly.  I've done some troubleshooting and if I connect my computer directly to the ISP modem I have no issues, so I know it must be the TC.  Nothing about my setup has changed in over a year and this problem just randomly cropped up.  The only thing I can think of is a few weeks ago I reset my router to factory and renamed my network when I got rid of my Airport Express and started using Apple TV.  But this issue started even before I set up Apple TV so I don't think it's that.
I've been researching the issue for days and can't seem to find a solution.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Time Capsule 802.11n 3rd Gen
    OS X Moutain Lion 10.8.1
Airport Utility 6.1 and 5.6 installed

What modem (make and model.. and type of broadband) is it and is it working as a router.. when you say you test by plugging directly to the ISP modem .. what changes do you have to make for that to work?? Does the TC show a double NAT error when it is connected to the modem?
Gen3 TC have a nasty board fault.
Can you check the log and see if you are getting disconnection error messages.
Can you downgrade the TC firmware to 7.5.2 just to test? If you are correctly using it with a single router in the network,, either the modem router or the TC.. as the only router.. I have a pretty poor opinion of the later firmware. It is only a test and you can upgrade again to 7.6.1 without any big hassle.
But do save the configuration and do a full factory reset when you go backwards.
    See board fault info here.

  • Time Capsule disk disconnect and reconnect every 5 minutes

This problem began with Airport Firmware 7.6, and has continued to perist with every subsequent firmware version.  Reverting to firmware version 7.5.2 eliminates the problem.  Running with the latest firmware version 7.6.3, on OS X 10.8.2, the Time Capsule disk is disconnected and reconnected every 5 minutes, and this is seen in the console log:

Has anyone found a solution to this, other than reverting to Airport Firmware 7.5.2?

Welcome to the club.. there is a very long thread.. here.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3526741?tstart=0
There seems to be any number of factors.. where the solutions are little silly things..
Start from the end of the thread and work backwards as this has been ongoing for a long time.. and experience has improved.
What you are seeing btw is the change apple made in Lion and 7.6 to higher security version of AFP.. but it is a mess IMHO.. and has not worked at all well.

  • Time Capsule getting Disconnected Frequently

    Hi,
I configured Time Capsule on an existing wireless networking, mapped the drives on Windows 7 Professional workstations and after a while the mapped drive seems to be disconnected, I tried to check with Airport Utility on my MacBook Pro it says device no longer exists so I had to restart the Time Capsule in order to appear it online, this is happening every 30 minutes. Kindly help.

It should not change anything.. your TC name will not be different.. so it depends how you are mapping.
If you map to \\TCIPaddress you should make sure the address is locked.. preferably by using locked dhcp to MAC address.
I hope you do use \\TCname.. and that the name is short, no spaces pure alphanumeric.
Also that you set the workgroup correctly for the windows computers to connect.
Anyhow redoing mapping is not that hard.

  • Time Capsule Frequently disconnecting users from drive partitions

I have a pretty unique setup and situation with our Time Capsule causing us some major problems:
We are an after school music program for teens with 7 iMacs that members use to create and edit music in GarageBand. Their files are stored on a partition of a Time Capsule that they're all given a folder on to store GarageBand projects in. Believe it or not, for the past 4 years this has worked perfectly. They've been able to open GarageBand projects from the Time Capsule's drive partition and edit, record and mix Garage Band projects in real time all while streaming over wifi.
About 3 or 4 months ago in March 2013 (I'm thinking there was a Time Capsule firmware and/or Airport Utility update around the time it started) about 5 minutes after anyone opens their GarageBand projects from the Time Capsule partition, their iMac disconnects from the Time Capsule's partition and Garage Band basically goes haywire. It sort of moves their project to "no man's land", it's not on the computer's local hard drive and it can't see it on Time Capsule, so when you try to record it says "drive partition full" and even worse, if you try to save Garage Band usually crashes and loses their work. Even if you try to do "Save As" and move it to a local location it'll still crash and lose their work.
Dragging their file from the Time Capsule partition to the computers desktop and working on the project locally for the day works, but isn't really a good solution as kids have trouble grasping file management and lose their files between computers when they work this way.
Our Time Capsule is about a year and a half old, Firmware version 7.6.3 and Airport Utility on the Mac I use to admin things is 6.3.
A weird problem I know, but we are desparate for help!

7.6.3 firmware definitely has more bugs than previously.
IMHO the first step is to downgrade the TC.. use 7.6.1 or even 7.5.2 on an 18month old TC might work better than any 7.6 version.
Secondly 6.3 is problematic as a utility.. apple seem to have made ipv6 local-link a necessity..
    See the rather belated advice..
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4597
Downgrade firmware is easy in v6 utility.
Simply select version with option key held down. Select the version you want to use and it will downgrade.. (or maybe that is an upgrade!!)
You can also use 5.6 utility to manage the TC.. since it is not the latest greatest which needs the latest not so greatest utility.
How to load 5.6 into ML.
    1. Download 5.6 for Lion.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Click to open the dmg but do not attempt to install the pkg.. it won't work anyway.
    2. Download and install unpkg.
    http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
Run unpkg on the desktop.. it is very simple.. drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. drill down.. applications utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.
You cannot uninstall version 6 (now 6.3 if you updated) so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. so just ignore the toyland version.. the plastic hammer.. and start using 5.6.. a real tool.
For screen shots see this post.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4668746?tstart=0
You only need to do this on the computer that is going to manage the files.. but it is easy once you have the actual 5.6 utility to just copy it to every computer in the network.
    Sounds like interesting stuff.
The TC is not designed as a NAS.. so if this really doesn't work out, I would be looking at a 2 disk synology so you can run mirrored raid.
And of course backup is so much easier in a real NAS.. TC has no inbuilt backup ability, and TM cannot backup network drives.. so Apple kind of didn't intend TC to do this job.

  • Time Capsule HD disconnects

Hi, one week ago I got a Time Capsule 2TB to replace an older AirPort Express. I exprienced a lot of trouble with TC since this time. It started with unreliable internet connection and ended with occasionally loosing connection to the TC HD. First I thought it was a proplem of the ISP (Xfinity) or the modem. But they checked it and everything was fine. Actually I found out that the Internet dropping problems were only related to my two Macs, but not my iPhone or my iPad (or a guest access). I did a factory reset, and internet seems to work now. One problem however remains. I use TC for Time Machine backups of my iMac (2010) and MacBook (2012). My MacBook seems to fail to backup as most of the times the HD disconnects. My iMac did a successful TM backup (while connected via Ethernet), but it has a lot of trouble keeping the Wifi Connection. Sometimes internet is not accessible although I get a strong signal. The TC is only some feet away. So I am really lost. Is it an Hardware issue? I also used to testdrive an iTunes Library on the TC for Wifi access, but this was very unreliable too. Often I got the message that the TC HD did disconnect, was not reachable ore similar. Any ideas how to find the root of the problem?

There is a bug in Lion and made worse rather than fixed in Mountain Lion that causes the disk in the TC to disappear.. exactly what you found.. worse by wireless than ethernet.
Apple have not yet acknowledged there even is an issue.
I don't even have a work around.. it simply doesn't happen on Snow Leopard.. which is rock solid network wise.
A few things I can suggest.. clean install much better than upgrade install of the OS.. certainly problems on laptop wireless can be partly attributed to upgrade install.. if that is what you did.
I would reset the TC full factory settings.
Use all SMB compatible names.. short, no spaces, pure alphanumeric.
That is for TC name.. wireless names.. put a different name for 5ghz.. and hard disk name.. which should be data but has sometimes default to Time Capsule.
Lock the radio channels. So use manual settings and try 1, 6 or 11. And using different name for 5ghz you can set the laptop to prefer 5ghz if it is in range.
    Use WPA2 personal security only.
Use very short lease time for DHCP.. 20min is good value and will cause almost no extra network traffic but should keep things updated. You can also use dhcp reservation to keep everyything using the same IP.

  • Time capsule keeps disconnecting from the internet

My MBP was previously connected to the internet via my sky netgear router, with no issues.
I have recently purchased a 2TB time capsule and connected that to the sky netgear router via an ethernet cable.
I then set it up as its own wifi network.  Now it keeps disconnecting from the internet every 5 mins or so.  I know that the internet is fine as I can hook up with my netgear router with no issues.  I cant seem to find any settings to play with.  Earlier posts seem to suggest firmware issues, but since this is a brand new MBP and TC, I can't understand what the issue could be.

Give us the full blown picture of the network.
What modem? Is it a router?
Is the TC in router or bridge mode?
Can you test with ethernet.. does the same disconnect happen when wireless goes down?
ie is this a router issue or a wireless issue?
If wireless can you try setting all that is now auto, to manual settings.. wireless channels.. unfortunately I think wireless mode is no longer accessible. Different names for 2.4ghz and 5ghz.
There are no new drivers.. That would only be relevant to AC wireless anyway.. or the firmware of the TC.
But you are running the latest firmware.. 7.7.1 which does mention some (rare) disconnections.

  • Why is my wifi from time capsule intermittent

Wi-Fi looking for networks, then onto my network, then searching again. I've powered down the Time Capsule and restarted it. Installed all upgrades. I tried taking it off Auto channel, but to no avail.

The issue seems to be Lion.. but what particular part of the setup is messing up I am not sure.
But at least try the following.
Reset the TC to defaults holding down the reset button for about 10sec.
With the TC plugged in by ethernet, rename the TC itself and the wireless to SMB standard.. no spaces, no special characters.. short. Name 5ghz differently to 2.4ghz. Passwords are the same but 8-12 characters is sufficient unless you have an ICBM silo in your backyard. (And TC is storing the launch sequence).
Set the wireless to fixed, a/n - b/g
Fix the channels.. for 2.4ghz, in most areas the channels that do not overlap are 1, 6, 11 (in some places 13) test with each one.
Fix N wireless to 40 if you can.. certainly one of the lower channels if possible.
To do all that you probably need to download airport utility 5.6 for lion.

  • Time Capsule keeps disconnecting as a router

I have Time Capsule connected by ethernet to my main Mac and serving as a wireless router for the upstairs Mac, Windows laptop, etc. It did a perfect backup, but my problem is that it seems to need periodic "re-connection" to any computer that wants to access it as a router. I don't know if this is a function of the initial big back-up it was doing, but even after that concluded, I'd be cruising along on the net until the connection from the TC timed out (for want of a better expression).
For now I'm using TC as a pure wireless HD and went back to my perfectly fine Linksys router and all is well. But for what I spent, and just on general principle, I'd love to get the TC working as a rock-steady router. Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

Register by MAC address to the first device is generally used by cable companies. But the Modem acts as the first port of call and whatever device first is turned on, picks up the public IP address and the MAC is registered. It just works.
Your issue might be that the first device to register has a very long lease. Since you cannot power cycle you should ask the IT admin of the building who controls this setup to release and renew the IP after you plug in the TC otherwise it will not be recognised.. for days or weeks or however long the lease is set to.
    But it could be 24hours.
Plainly you got the Mac Mini working.. how did you do that??
Sometimes you can just try overnight.. remove the Mac and plug in the TC.. but it is far easier to talk to the admin and get him/her to simply renew the lease.
The other method we use is spoof the MAC address of the device currently plugged in. ie grab the MAC address of the Mini and use it in the router.. to pretend it is really the Mini.. the router on the other end is none the wiser.
TC AFAIK, has no ability to spoof, but almost every other broadband router made can do it. Apple designed it for lowest common denominator in terms of networking ability.. to put it mildly.
Note your internet might be already behind a NAT.. if you use the TC or any other router in NAT mode there is an issue of double NAT with every site that requires interactive connection because there is no possible link from the site to your PC by forwarding the port. Double NAT effectively blocks it.
Check the IP you have on the Mini now.. if it is a private address.. ensure it is not 10.0.x.x by the way otherwise the TC will not work due to routing considerations. But any of the private IP address ranges are not routable over the internet and will give you issues.

  • Time capsule intermittently drops wifi

Purchased my Time Capsule in December 2009; and the past two months its dropping wifi about 5-6 times a day.  The amber light comes on; and it takes up to 5 minutes to reconnect. I'm running Mavericks; the version on the Time Capsule shows 7.6.4 (which I assume is the firmware version).
It's almost 5 years old; not sure if it's the age or if it's the firmware version.
Suggestions?  and please note, if the suggestion is to backdate the firmware, I have no idea how to do that.

It is simply too old.. I think you are better cutting your losses and buying a new one.
You can however try and press another few months out of it.. (weeks or days might be closer).
    1. Firmware downgrade. (very simple really).
Hold down the option key whilst you click on version in the summary page.
Pick 7.6.1 as the best of series.. at least IMHO.. or 7.5.2 in other but it might not work.
    After the firmware downgrade..
    2. Factory reset.
    The Factory Reset universal
Unplug your TC/AE. Hold in reset. and power the TC/AE back on..  all without releasing reset and keep holding in for about 10sec. The time is not important.. it is the front LED rapid flashing that indicates you are in factory mode.
    Release reset.
If it doesn’t flash rapidly you have released reset at some point and try again.
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
TC/AE will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations.
No files are deleted on the hard disk.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.
    3. Redo the setup with new names.. all short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
ie base station name.. TCgen2 (at a guess that is what it is).
    wireless name.. TCwifi
Security WPA2 Personal is the only choice. 8-20 character password, no spaces pure alphanumeric mix of case and numbers.
BUT i am pretty sure this is all a waste of time. It is simply TIME for replacement.. 5 years is 2years longer than apple intended you to keep it.

  • Time capsule keeps disconnecting from my computer

I am constantly having this problem with my 1TB TC...through out the day it will give an error message that it has been interrupted and it will drop off. I have it set to mount on my desk top when I start up my computer but it disappears then. The only way I can get it back is to unplug the TC and restart it and then restart my computer...this is really annoying and I think I am going to get rid of it.
If anyone can help me here it would be appreciated otherwise its going down the road...

You would open AirPort Utility, click on Manual Setup. On the Summary Page, click on "Version" and another window will open to allow you to choose other versions of firmware. Click Update to restart the TC.
