Time capsule is blocking websites

Certain websites are being blocked by TC, and suggestions?

This is the model with a battery??
Is your TC getting public IP on the wan interface when you use it in NAT router mode??
Can I suggest you do a restart of the system.. the modem will need to be powered off... which means disconnect the coax cable.. or remove the battery as well as power down.. Power it up again and after a couple of min, power up the TC. See if it makes any difference.. if not can you try it with another router, or plug the computer directly into the modem and see what happens.
I would also suggest when the site fails to load, try pinging the site via terminal, and see if the TC can resolve the site.. ie if it has dns issues.. if so the ISP might be the problem.
Wireless issues?? I don't think likely for this one.. but always test on ethernet connections.

  • Time Capsule needlessly blocking sites.

Hello, I came home this morning to find my first gen Time Capsule (1TB) had turned into a brick overnight.  So I take it to the Apple Store and naturally they refused to fix it.  Five hundered dollars later I bring home my new 3TB Time Capsule, hook it up and it's running in no time.
But it's blocking all soscial networking, blog, or technological websites.  I'm having to write this on my MacBook Pro because the Time Capsule hooked up to my Mac Pro is blocking Apple's site because it says the administrator (me) doesn't want anyone accessing 'technology' websites.  Facebook and Twitter are also inaccessable.  Not that I'm a big social networker, but this is BS.  It's MY network, I should be able to do whatever I want.
Went to Airport Utility and checked and double checked that I have the latest firmware.  So newest firmware, newest Time Capsule.  Blocked sites.  Firewall is for sure turned off.  Already deleted the network and started a new one.  Problem persists.
    Any ideas?

The AirPorts or Time Capsules do NOT have a means to block individual websites. Do you use a DNS service like OpenDNS? These types of service do provide you a means to block websites.

  • Time Capsule preventing one website from loading???

I maintain my high school's alumni website. I had no problems accessing it I prior to purchasing my Time Capsule. I was using a Linksys router prior to this. After adding the TC, I cannot access the website. If I unplug the TC and connect my cable modem directly to my iMac, I can access the site, but as soon as I put the TC back in, it won't display the site. I have the problem with both my MacBook (connecting wirelessly) and iMac (wired). But if I take the MacBook to Starbucks, I can connect to the site with no problem. So I have to believe it's a setting in the TC. When I connect to my company's VPN, I can hit the site (since it uses corporate DNS and such). Any ideas. I've looked at the various settings in the TC a hundred times, but nothing seems wrong. Also, I have not had a single other website give me any access problems. Simply one site, so far. But it's been this way for over a week now.

Just did another test by reverting back to my Linksys router (i.e. took out the Time Capsule from the picture entirely). I can reach the site with no problem from all my computers. As soon as I resume use of the TC, the sites cannot be reached again. I also downgraded the TC firmware to 7.4.1 but this did not solve the problem either. So I returned it 7.4.2. Ugh. I guess I'll just live with it and do the website maintenance from my work computer thru VPN.

  • Time Capsule wireless blocks my 3G dongle signal..?

    Hi all,
I have a time capsule which I just set up, creating a wireless network in my house to do backups for my Macbook Pro.
I access internet through a USB key which is over a 3G network from a provider.
My problem is that when I turn the time capsule network on, it locks up my USB internet. Then if I turn off the capsule the internet works again no problem.
    Any suggestions would be great!
    Thanks

A lot of things can interfere with your signal. A cordless phone operating at 2.4 GHz, a microwave oven, or another nearby access point will affect your signal strength.

  • Time Capsule Blocking Verizon Email

My Time Capsule is blocking Verizon email.  The problem is on the wired and wireless connections.  It seems clear that the email is getitng through the modem and then getting blocked by the Time Capsule.  I am running OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 on my imac but the problem is also present on my iphone 5 and my macbook air.

To provide a little more info, Verizon is not my internet provider; TWC is.  The airport is plugged into a dedicated modem (not a modem/router combo device).  The verizon email addresses are the only ones that don't come through.

  • Wifi Working With New Time Capsule But Can't See It To Configure Settings?

I had an airport extreme but recenlty purchased an airport time capsule. When I initially plugged it in, by airport utlity saw it and it asked me to set up a password. But then I noticed there was no internet signal getting to the time capsule. We wound up replacing the DSL Router and now the internet is up and running. But now when I open the airport icon, the time capsule doesn't even show up. When I open the airport utility through finder it shows the time capsule but blocks me from accessing anything. So I can't go into any set up configuration for changing passwords, setting up guest network or setting up the back up to the time capsule. I don't see any downloads for a new utility for the time capsule, so I'm assuming it's the same as for the airport extreme? What do I need to do in order to be able access the configuration areas?

Reboot the TC.. it is hard for poor OSX to find it.
    No luck.
Just press reset and start again.
Do a new clean setup.. please use all SMB names this time, short, no spaces and pure alphaumeric.
Ensure ipv6 is set to link-local on both the wireless and ethernet if you use it. Wireless is essential even if you use ethernet you cannot do setups without wireless.
    Still got trouble??
What is the OS on the computer and therefore version of the airport utility.. you will have huge problems with Mavericks.. as that is its nature.

  • XBOX ONE. I have the xbox one and the airport time capsule and cant connect to most xbox live games and zero parties. I have 0 experience in all this but somehow was able to change NAT to open but still wont connect. HELLLPPPP

Okay folks, I need your help out there.
So the nerdy side of me went and picked up the XBOX ONE on release day. Its awesome by the way, BUT..... I cant seem to connect to most xbox live games and absolutely ZERO parties. At first I just thought it was something to do with the xbox itself and would eventually fix itself, but i was wrong. After looking into it on microsoft, i found out that it had to do with my NAT settings on the airport itself. I guess apple and xbox are not compatiable for xbox live and it makes it difficult to have an open NAT setting and is a huge PAIN.
I was able to pinpoint one that the airport time capsule was blocking the IPV6 something or another. Anyways, I unblocked that, and reset the modem and time capsule and jumped on the xbox and now have open NAT settings but still cant connect to multi-player.
Upon further searching, i was told to uncheck the UPNP on my time capsule as well, but have no idea how to find that.
I know it seems confusing, but thats the best i can describe it.
    tthanks all

Be a long long time before I see an Xbox One.. but whoever told you to uncheck the upnp in the TC.. tell them their dreamin' .. upnp is not support by Apple in any computer or router, never has been.. Apple deliberately wrote their own version called NAT-PMP to do the same thing.. dynamically open ports at the request of an application or client computer.
So there is nothing like that to uncheck.. and as a matter of interest.. there no box to check or uncheck for NAT-PMP either.. since apple do not believe in end user adjustment of settings.. they simply do not exist.
You will have to manually forward all ports required by the Xbox via the TC. For multi-player games you probably need to open more ports than the standard to allow just xbox live. You will need to check the ports required and open them.
    OR
Buy a standard vista UPNP compatible router.. and use that.. and simply put the TC in bridge in the network.
I have not seen posts yet about xbox one.. but there are plenty about xbox and ps3 and the fact that Apple really doesn't give a hoot about games consoles.
This is a good basic post for older xbox.

  • Time Capsule Impacting email????

I am having this problem with my iMac, an old iBook, and a MacBook Pro...started a few weeks ago. I have three different email accounts in the house (2 comcast and .me). The iMac and the iBook use Entourage and the MacBook uses MAIL.
We had no problems until a few weeks ago when every computer could no longer send Emails. We could download all accounts onto all 3 computers using 2 different mail apps but we couldn't send. From entourage trying to send comcast I get the following message...An operation on the server timed out. The server may be down, overloaded, or there may be too much net traffic.
All 3 computers are using 10.5.6. But this problem occurred before any upgrades, etc. We have tried deleting accounts and starting from scratch....we check libraries and permissions. We have changed port numbers. We are now forced to access the email from the webapps provided by mobileMe and Comcast but it is still a pain in the neck. Also..all the accounts can send and receive via iPod touches in the house. The iMac connects via ethernet to the Time Capsule and both laptops connect via wifi. Doesn't matter which computer, which mail account, or which mail app...we can't send....receiving is OK.
The only thing they have in common is Time Capsule (v 7.4.1....problem started before firmware update)...could something in a TC setting be impacting this? I updated TC firmware last week and rebooted but nothing. VERY FRUSTRATING..I will try anything at this point.

Stuart, welcome to the discussions. A few thoughts:
First, power down your modem completely. There may be a battery in the unit and if so, pull it. Wait a few hours before you power back up. Actually, if you could keep it powered off overnight, that would be even better.
Power down your Time Capsule before you power the modem back up. Once the modem has been up for 10-15 minutes power the Time Capsule back up. See if that helps.
If no luck, contact your ISP and ask them to check the connection. It is possible that the ISP may be blocking outgoing mail.
If still no luck, try connecting one of your computers directly to the modem to see if that will allow you to send mail. If you can send mail this way, this would indicate that the Time Capsule is blocking the outgoing connection. If the problem points to the Time Capsule, try a hard reset to reconfigure the unit again. The hard reset will not erase any backups you already have on the unit.
    Hope this helps.

  • Samsung blu-ray  BD-C6500 and time capsule

I have searched several of the other posts regarding connection issues. I can get the bluray to log into the correct access point, but it fails the IP address test. I diasbled the IPv6 setting with Time Capsule (uncheck "Block Incoming IPv6 Connections"). DNS is set to auto. I think it has something to do with IP adresses, mask, etc. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Are you connecting wired or wirelessly?
I am running a cable from the router, directly into my Samsung DVD player. BUT, I am on a wireless network. I receive my internet connection wirelessly and my WiFi connections work fine.
    Did you update the firmware?
No. I don't know how to do that and didn't know I needed to.
As you started this thread in the the Fios Internet forum I guess you are a fios user.
Yes, I am a FIOS user.
Are you trying to use a  secondary subnet provided by your own router connected the the Verizon router?
Not that I am aware of. I don't know all that much about this stuff.
You shouldn't have to enter an ip address as you should get one assigned via dhcp from the router.  Your setting should say auto.
Auto was not working for me. I started looking around on the forums here and it seemed like I should try entering manual IP's.
I would configure it to auto then connect it via wire directly to the router and see if it gets a firmware update.
Once that is done you should be able to connect via wire at the tv or if your'e using wireless just follow the wirless setup section in the user manual.
Will give it a try later tonight. Thanks.

  • Can't access some websites using time capsule

Everything has been working just fine with my time capsule and my imac and just today I couldn't access some websites for some reason. I tried many other sites including this one and can get to them no problem. I have been through all of the airport settings and trouble shooting and can't find any problems, also the other 2 computers and my blackberry can't access some of the same sites either, I am stumped. Does anyone out there have any idea whats going on? Thanks for your help!

    Welcome to the discussions!
Suggest that you contact your ISP. It sounds like their DNS server is overloaded at the moment, but also unlikely that they will ever admit it.
It wouldn't hurt to power cycle your complete network as well. Just power everything down, order is not important.
Start the modem first and let it run a few minutes by itself.
Then start the next device connected to the modem, probably your Time Capsule, and let it run a few minutes.
Then start your computers and devices one by one the same way.

  • Time Capsule blocking one web site.

My Time Capsule is plugged into several PC's and several MAC's. I can't get to my work email web site only with anything that is attached or connected wirelesly to the Time Capsule. If I hardwire a computer directly to my cable modem I can access the site. I've had the Time Capsule for about a month and a half now and it just started blocking this site about three days ago. Any suggestions?

Having this same issue. All sites work fine except for one: http://bugzilla.mozilla.org . I've restored the Time Capsule to default settings, use DHCP to auto config the TC from the modem, same problem. If I plug directly from mac into cable modem, the site works.
The IP resolves fine. I can traceroute to the IP, can ping it, but when I try telnet'ing to the IP on port 80, connection times out. No TC, it works fine. Grrr... really frustrating.

  • How do I block an iPad app from hacking my Time Capsule WiFi?

I have a 1st gen Time Capsule. I use it for my Wi-Fi signal in the house. A kid with an iPad has an app that keeps hacking my Wi-Fi password every time I change it. Is there a way for me to block that app from hacking my Wi-Fi? If so, how?
Again, it is a 1st gen Time Capsule, and my computer is a mid-2007 iMac. I use WPA2 Personal for my wireless security. My password has letters, numbers, and special characters, and is not easily remembered. I had to write it down in case I need to enter it on a new wireless device, yet this kid just hacked right in.
Any and all helpful info will obviously be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    A couple of things.
The advice on the passwords above is good. FING recomendation was great as well - It's a great APP.
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/fing-network-scanner/id430921107?mt=8
However, there is another possibility - Does he know your Time Capsule's Admin password? With that he can use an app to quickly get your WIFI password and get on the network. Have you tried changing the admin password.
If you've installed this app: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/airport-utility/id427276530?mt=8
It will ask you for an admin password to access the Time Capsule. If you're using the same password each time for admin access then he can get access to the admin rights and there are ways of getting the password from there, quite easily.
P.S. Change the password on your iMAC in case he has accessed it and installed a key logger. (There used to be physical keyloggers that would be discreetly put inline between the keyboard and the computer but I don't think there is one for Macs and with the advent of Bluetooth keyboards it's a moot point)

  • Time Capsule started randomly blocking sites

    Hello
Earlier this week, in the middle of a browsing session on a discussion forum i'm on, i lost access to the site. I assumed it was a server crash or connection issue to the server, but a traceroute showed otherwise. I've also been able to access the site by using a proxy server, or by connecting using my iPhone with the WiFi turned off.
My next assumption was that my ISP waqs blocking it for some reason. I was on hold with them, and had just connected my MacBook Pro directly to the cable modem, and lo and behold, the site came up no problem. That immediately suggested that it was in fact the Time Capsule that was the issue.
Further research here suggested that this happens on AirPort and Time Capsule devices from time to time, and is most often remedied with a firmware update. However, my Time Capsule was already running the most recent version of the firmware (v7.6.3).
    I have tried:
    Restarting the Time Capsule
    Restoring to factory defaults
Downgrading the firmware to 7.6.1 and then to 7.5.2
    ... all to no avail.
Is there anything else i can try, or do i have to sit tight until Apple issues yet another firmware update to resolve these issues? I'd really like to get back to using some of my favourite sites without having to use up my wireless data or run everything through a proxy server.
    Thanks,
    darren.

We are seeing a number of complaints like this.
The other site Bob referenced they talk about clearing the arp cache.. you should also clear the browser cache. It is surprising how often browser cache does cause issues.. I think you should do those things as matter of course but I doubt that is where the problem is.
Try turning off ipv6 in the computer. You cannot actually turn it off in the TC.. or none that I can see.. as IPv6 does start to creep its way into the net we are going to face lots of issues in the change over.
No fix with the above, I recommend you simply get another router for the meantime.. a cheap Netgear like the WNDR3800, has reasonable firmware itself plus runs several excellent 3rd party firmware. Bridge the TC and you can continue to use it as wireless and TM backup alongside the Netgear.. but Apple need to do some investigation of the problem so report it to them via the feedback.
BTW does the same thing happen on another computer.. particularly a PC if you happen to have one.. since you tried former firmware which were ok, maybe there is an OS upgrade recently that is causing it.. nice to check on a pc. Or en if your Mac is older and still has a CD drive you could boot linux live CD ?? I am not sure if that is poosible but I imagine you should be able to do it.. anything just to see if it is common across OS. Then the finger is definitely pointed at the TC.. although running previous firmware, makes no sense to me at all.

  • Time Capsule filtering access to websites?

I recently set up a Time Capsule at a friend's house.
The Time Capsule is in bridge mode and is creating a wifi network. There is also a Windows PC plugged into one of the ethernet ports on the back of the TC.
Any computer connected to the TC's wifi or the TC's ethernet ports seems to have access to only certain websites. Gmail, Yahoo, all work but random other websites like www.abercrombie.com do not (Safari acts like it has a DNS problem - the error message is something like "can't connect to server").
I've verified that both a Mac on the TC's wifi and the wired PC have good DNS (they can both resolve and ping www.abercrombie.com) but both claim they can't reach the server through Safari/Internet Explorer.
I'm thinking there must be some website/IP/domain filtering going on in a router somewhere. There's no way the TC could be doing this, right?

    Welcome to the discussion area!
+I'm thinking there must be some website/IP/domain filtering going on in a router somewhere. There's no way the TC could be doing this, right?+
If the TC is in "bridge mode", as you indicate, the answer would be no. In "bridge mode", a router does not handle DHCP or NAT services at all. The other router ahead of the TC would be handling these services.
Your main router receives DNS information from your ISP. That's where you need to start the troubleshooting process. It sounds like the DNS server at your service provider may be overloaded.

  • Blocking Connections With Time Capsule?

Hey, I have a son and he plays a lot of PS3. He connects to the internet wirelessly through the Time Capsule. Is there any way I can block his PS3 from accessing the Time Capsule without disconnecting the Time Capsule from the internet?

    Welcome to the discussions!
Is there any way I can block his PS3 from accessing the Time Capsule without disconnecting the Time Capsule from the internet?
Yes, if he is connecting now using wireless. No, if he's using ethernet.
It will take a bit of thinking to understand the concept of Timed Access, but in general if you elect to use this feature, you don't "block" a device from connecting, as you might think.
Instead, you +allow only specified devices to connect based on their MAC address or AirPort ID+. So, in effect, devices that are not specifically allowed +will not be able to connect+.
It gets more interesting though. If you prefer, you can set daily time limits on any device that is allowed to connect. So, for example if you wanted to allow your computer access at all times but limit your son's game console to specified times on specified days, you can set that up as well.
If the kids have their own computers, it's also a great way to keep them off the internet after midnight.
Open AirPort Utility - Click Manual Setup
Click the Access Control tab below the row of icons
For MAC Access Control, select Timed Access
For detailed info, click the Help menu at the top of the screen and enter the following in the search box +Controlling access to your wireless network+
A note of caution. The default setting for the network is unlimited access. This means any device can connect if they have the password. You must change the default setting to No Access. Then you click the + (plus) button to add each device that you want to be able to connect and establish time limits for that device.
If you get confused, click Revert at the bottom of the setup window and everything will reset back to the original defaults and you can start again.
