Time Capsule Issues

I have a macbook pro and an air that backs up to the time capsule. I close the lids on both when I go to bed at night, when i open up the macbook pro in the morning I get a "the backup disk image could not be mounted" the only way to fix this is to reboot the macbook pro, then it backs up just fine. The air does not have this issue. Any idea what could be doing this? It's been working fine for 6 months, then all of a sudden it started doing this. If I go and try to mount the sparse bundle manually it says the resource is not available.

  • Time Machine/Time Capsule issues

I have had a never ending series of Time Machine/Time Capsule issues. There's little to configure, so there's not much I could be doing wrong.
One thing I have especially noticed, is that Time Machine is interfering with iTunes. iTunes has frozen for a time or locked up when Time Machine is backing up.
Another problem I have seen is the console log flooded with some sort of waiting for index error. Yet another are messages like -
    "Jul 14 14:43:56 MJBook /System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app/Contents/MacOS/Finder[176]: StatusMonitor::volumesChangedCallBack returned -47"
The only thing I have ever found odd about my situation is that I am running a Time Machine and three other Airport Express devices. One of the Airport Express units uses WDS, and I heard that could create issues.
    Any ideas?

I have the same question and I see you posted yours in March. So this forum is REALLY helpful...
My Mac consultant doesn't use either so is not much help. He says to erase T.C. and start over, but it also contains all my backups for my other Mac which have worked perfectly. When I select T.C. in T.M. the only option is to Remove Disk; I want to save the MacBook backups. I also tried wireless as he suggested but got the same warnings as above so went back to Ethernet. Plus nobody can tell me how to access T.C. in Disk Utility to try to fix it.

  • Time capsule issues backing up more than one MacBook Pro

    Hi all,
i'm having an issue with a new 3Gb Time Capsule i've just bought and put online, I wonder if someone would be able to help please.
I am trying to back up 3 MacBooks, a 2011 macbook pro, a 2012 macbook pro and a 2012 Macbook Air, they are all running Mountain Lion.
My main macbook has worked fine and I have backed up the drive a few times without any real issue, however when I try and back up one of the other two onto the same Time Capsule, I get the error, "the backup disk image "/volumes/data/.sparsebundle" could not be accessed"
I've had a look around all the forums to see if I can see a potential problem and fix, however I can't find anywhere that says it works fine for the first backup but not for any other ones!?
The only other option I have seen is to completely remove the data backup and start again, but I don't really want to do that unless theres no other options.
Hope you can help, thanks in advance.
Oh and one other thing which i've seen, is that you can't backup more than one system unless you re-partition the Time Capsule!? Surely this isn't correct???

You do not have to partition the TC.. indeed you cannot..
But the issue with Lion or ML losing the sparsebundle is now as common as dust in a drought.
Yes, it can do a backup then fail to do another.. and there is no reason for it other than poor networking on later OS.
Reboot the TC.. and maybe the whole network. Reminds you of that initial support question for another OS.. did you turn it off and on again...??

    Welcome to ML.

  • Remote Access (internet) to Time Capsule Issue

    Hi and tnxs for reading,
after having tried a lot of suggestions on the internet about how to make TC file sharing working remotely, I am writing here because I am still looking for a solution!!
I have my TC bridged via ethernet to my DSL router (given from my internet provider).
I am using for all my devices TC WiFi, for local network and internet.
I activated Back to my mac on TC and to my Mac.
I can see my TC files when connected on my local WiFi, however, if I connect to the internet through another network, although I can see my Time Capsule on the left column of my finder, if I click on it, the connection fails.
Maybe it notoworthy to say that on System Preferences, iCloud, back to My Mac, I have a note saying that in order to improve the network, i should use use port mapping or upnp. Now, I cannot activate upnp on my router, but I can do port mapping, as i am doing for video surveillance stuff or similar things. However, I have tried to open ports suggested in http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4907 but nothing at all...
    Please, help!!!
PS: I would like to remotely connect to my airport devices through Airport Utility but it is not working aswell, and I think it is due to the same issue.
I'd really appreciate to be helped in this issue.

Sorry with time differences this is going to take a while.
I am going to need to work through some of the scenario myself.. my main concern is that BTMM may simply not work with the TC in bridge.
When people run into trouble.. eg here. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3699096?start=0&tstart=0
Alot of the problems come from the TC being in bridge. If you cannot get the TC to be the main router.. due to the kind of setup you have, then direct access method to the TC is the only way to do it.
    5) The main thing I'd like to do is to have access to my TC HD from the internet.
That gives you what you mainly want at point 5.. access to the TC HD.
    1) I rebooted my computer after turning of my BTMM on airport express. I kept on on my TC and in my iCloud Setting.
So the TC is now the only item that has BTMM set??
But no luck?? You didn't give me a result.
    2) The brand of my modem is ELSAG DATAMAT, model ARGO55+, provided by FASTWEB internet provider (I need it to have internet).
I will look this up. Appears to be ikanos based adsl modem. But all the details are in other languages.. so it is hard for me to get exact details. Does it have dyndns client available of some sort? As this is essential if you don't have a static public IP.
    3) the msg "Chk your router setting to improve speed NAT-UPNP" is on my mac, in iCloud BTMM setting, and I got it in all these cases: a) connected to TC WiFi bridged to my router with 548 TCP open b) Personal Hotspot iPhone 3) US Robotics with UPNP plug&play activated.
So this means that in every case even with the iphone as hotspot.. so this is completely different to your ADSL internet connection BTMM still fails?? There is not one single configuration that works.
Perhaps you need to ring your local Apple support and see if they can figure this out. To me.. a single computer.. plugged into a modem directly.. of whatever kind, adsl or 3G or whatever.. that gets a public IP should be able to do BTMM.. but could apple be blocked in your country.
The exercise I did via the direct connection is to prove there is no block by ISP to actually connect to the TC.. which you said worked.. but there can be other blocks.
It could fail if your ISP gives you a private IP address.. same btw for the adsl connection.
You will need to check by doing a traceroute to say Google DNS server, 8.8.8.8 and see if you are connected via a private IP.. you cannot access a LAN from a double NAT which results.
    4) if I am not supposed to do configurations through the net, what is the reason to have a back to my mac iCloud setting available on my Airport Express which has no hard drives and the only feature associated with BTMM is remote configuration?
If you get remote access to change a configuration.. and you make the slightest mistake.. you will not be able to access it again until you get home. So I am unsure what configuration changes to your local lan at home you need to make from remote location. Remembering that a single wrong move will lock you out permanently.
Can you please explain why you need this??

  • OS X Mavericks time capsule issue.

After the OS X Mavericks upgrade, my time capsule keeps failing to back up. Anyone else having this issue?

I solved the problem I was having with Time Machine backups. I used the info at http://pondini.org/TM/B6.html, in particular the final section, "If your backups are on a network". In terminal I used the command "sudo tmutil inheritbackup", spedifying the sparsebundle on my backup disk. (I may have created the problem in the first place and I don't believe this was caused by Mavericks.)

  • AirPort/App Store/Time Capsule issues since update

Ok I have a MacBook Air Mid-2013....Since I did the Yosemite update 10.10 I have experienced the following issues...
    1. I cannot connect to my time capsule (well I can if I get go to connect to server and type the ip)
    2. The time capsule will not show up in my airport utility (but i can get into it when I configure other)
    3. I cannot connect to the App Store.
    4. My internet connection seems to go out when i try to get into the app store or the airport utility.
I have turned off my firewall that didnt work. Cleared out my key chain....still nothing......made sure the time was set correctly.....Reset a bunch of times everything.....I can access the time capsule from ios and my imac which i didnt update.

    Reset the TC to factory.
    The Factory Reset universal
Unplug your TC/AE. Hold in reset. and power the TC/AE back on..  all without releasing reset and keep holding in for about 10sec. The time is not important.. it is the front LED rapid flashing that indicates you are in factory mode.
    Release reset.
If it doesn’t flash rapidly you have released reset at some point and try again.
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
TC/AE will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations.
No files are deleted on the hard disk.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.
Start over from the MBA and redo the setup.
Make sure you use all short names, no spaces and pure alphanumeric names.. pure alphanumeric passwords.
eg TCgen5 base station name. TCwifi wireless name.
Make sure ipv6 is set to link-local only in the computer.
.. Now you might need to setup the TC at least once manually in finder.
    Use the name.. as follows
    AFP://TCgen5.local
And don't forget to save the password to the keychain.
If you still have issues, it is more likely the MBA installation of Yosemite is faulty.. and I would recommend a clean install.

  • Time Capsule Issue : 3 hours to copy 800 meg

    Hello,
I am using my time capsule as a router and to store my media.
Right now i am trying to read a media from it but cant make it cause it's too slow.
I am now trying to copy it to my hdd and the speed is 104 Kbs per second.
The time capsule is in an other room 5 meter near, i use an aiport express to make the relay.
Would you have any idea how to fix this issue ?
    thx

Describe the network a bit more.
That computer/device is the express connected to.
Why not use wireless directly to the TC.. why are you using Express?
How is the TC connected to main modem, running in what mode? Could you rearrange the network and place it next to the device and use the express as the router? Direct ethernet is always hugely better than wireless links.
Is the express a new one or the older N one.. actual model number will help.
Did you upgrade everything to 7.6.3 firmware.. that is really poor.. and especially for this kind of setup.
Did this work better before upgrade.. if you already had it setup?
Are you using apple extend wireless or join a wireless network?
Get a 5M or however long you need ethernet cable and test it.

  • Time Capsule Issues: Please Help

    my set up:
1 extreme base station|2 expresses| 1 time capsule| comcast ISP| time capsule is setup to join the excisting network...i know apple does not recommend this but it is my only option....
issue: it was working fine for about a week...now time capsule keeps loosing connection...light stays green however...unplugging and plugging back in it works for a few minutes...then drops out again....

well the situation has gotten worse after the update. After updating i was hoping some of my issues may have been resolved...they were not in fact they are worse....
so i restarted the TC so that i could see in the utility for those few minutes i have access to it...it updated and restarted..but never really restarted...it just blinks yellow now..
so i pressed the little reset button in the back...went to factory default..and i set it up agian...the same way i had it...and now it says the TC has been updated and it is restarting it never comes back up...
i am extremely frustrated...this is by far my worst apple product experience...wait times for TC support by phone are over 30 mins each time....and two of the three techs i have talked to were practically ********...i know its not the ones for fault for barely speaking english...but come on..you should still know how to trouble shoot for god's s

  • My Time Capsule Issues

    Hello friends,
Today I purchased a 1TB Time Capsule, in hope of using it with my new Macbook. I have reached home, and followed the guidelines accordingly, only to be left with a string of problems on this occasion.
I have tried the hard reset trick, as well as plugging it into my router and utilizing Airport Utility to facilitate a connection, however there has not been any luck so far in connecting the drive.
I am looking to connect the TC as a wireless hard drive and add it to my existing network. When I try to connect wirelessly, it is possible to obtain a green light, but with nothing showing in Time Machine. I have had the TC set up it's own network, however this does not speak with my current wireless set up and I am left without either TC connection or internet connection.
If anyone could help, I would be very grateful.
    Thanks
    Raheem

    Raheem,
You might consider this as well. Others have initially had trouble getting the TCs hard disk to appear only to have it work perfectly after they reformatted the drive.
    *Reformat the TC Hard Disk*
You can reformat the hard disk in the Time Capsule.
Go to Airport Utility --> Manual Setup --> Disks --> Highlight "Time Capsule Disk" on the left --> Click "Erase" on the right.
Rename the disk and select the level secure erasure. You're done and ready to begin backing up again.
I would suggest connecting the TC directly to your Mac via ethernet. Your initial full backup will go much faster and doesn't fail nearly as often as trying to do it wirelessly. “If you have an Ethernet cable, you can perform your first backup to your Time Capsule via Ethernet; this will allow for the fastest initial backup especially with client computers that use 802.11b or 802.11g.” http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1176
    Hope this is helpful.
    Cheers!

  • Time capsule issues (constant downloading)

    Hi guys,
I just got a G4 Time Capsule (Model MC343xx/A) with firmware version 7.50001. Anyway, I had it set up as a bridge to a router/modem that I currently have. I am connecting to the TC via wifi on my macbook running 10.6.2.
Anyway, I have iStat menus installed and it's showing that I have a constant downstream (into the macbook) connection at 500 KB/s (kiloBYTES).. It doesn't stop and I think it would drain my batteries really quick.. How do I find out what's causing it?

    krebstar wrote:
I was reading around and there seems to be a lot of bugs with the 7.5 firmware version..
    Apparently...
I'm trying to copy a file from my TC to my macbook, it is less than 800MB but the copy dialog is saying it's gonna take 13 HOURS.. Speeds are less than 20KB/s.. Is this normal?
A Time Capsule isn't known for being a fast file server, either from its internal drive or a drive attached by USB.

  • Time Capsule issue with backing up Windows partition via Boot Camp

I just bought the macbook pro and time capsule. I set up a 25GB Windows partition using Boot Camp and I have set up a Time Capsule to handle the backups. Time Capsule seems to backup the OSX hard drive partition fine, with the historical versions of the drive displayed correctly. However, with the Windows partition the Time Capsule appears to be backing up any files that change, however there is no version control showing up in Time Machine. In other words, I ONLY see the Windows partitioned drive as backed up in the "Today (Now)" screen. Any historical dates the drive shows up shaded and I cannot access it. Is there a way for Time Machine to manage the Windows partition in the same way as it does for MAC OSX drives?
    John

    Why is it so hard?
1000 and 1 times: the drive must have FREE contiguous unfragmented space and some files are blocking and preventing.
Some are able to find and delete, some by booting from another hard drive or OS X DVD to repair and/or run iDefrag.
    Or.... backup; erase; and restore.
ie, CLONE your hard drive in both directions. My choice would be SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner. They tend to work. Defrag tends to be slow and if there is no backup and there is an error.... well, you'll find out.
Apple error message is badly and poorly worded. Said so for over 3 yrs and it has not changed or improved though.
Paragon CampTune 9.5 $19 is great for Boot Camp. And resizing. And Windows 7 may need 2 or 3x what the base minimums listed. 32-48GB at least to be safe. And those are conservative numbers.

  • Help with time capsule issues please

    Hi all
Any help or advise will be greatly appreciated.
I will give you a little background info as it may be relevant.
At home we had 2 MacBook pro's that backed up to a 2tb time capsule all worked well, wifi and back ups. Unfortunately both MacBooks where in boot/trunck of the car while we where traveling and the boot had a terrible leak that I was unaware of and both MacBooks where water damaged tried drying them out but both where beyond repair. (Devastation is not the word especially as the car insurance would not pay out)
Unable to replace both MacBooks We continued to use the time capsule as a wireless router for both our iPhones then after 6 months or so the Internet would go off and the orange flashing light would come on. I just thought it needed reset and so switched it off and back on. Sure enough green light and all is well this became more and more frequently until the orange light stayed on regardless of what I do with no Internet. I've connected an old router which is working fine.
The good news is that after a year without a MacBook I have a new one arriving tommorow. My main concern is the data on the TC I don't want to loose it but i don't know what to do?
These are my options as I see it but again any suggestion welcome.
1)I unpack the new MacBook pro set it up as normal then connect to the TC and check airport utility and hopefully this will tell me it just needs a firmware update. Install the update for TC reboot and check the green light is on, then to a fresh install for the mac and re-install the MacBook from the TC.
    2) when booting up the new MacBook try and find the TC when it asks for it and hope all goes well and it transfers my old MacBook data onto my new one.
As I say any help or advise would be greatly appreciated, please note my primary concern is not loosing the data on the TC from my old MacBook
Thanks for all the replys in advance

It sounds like your TC has become unreliable.. is it a series 1?
You might need to get it repaired, as it can take several hours to get the backups off the drive.
Check in UK for local repairers.
    https://sites.google.com/site/lapastenague/a-deconstruction-of-routers-and-modem s/apple-time-capsule-repairers
It is just the power supply gone faulty and repair or replacement should get it going again. The data stored on the hard drive should be ok. Restoring the files from the old TM should be ok.
The instructions here are extremely helpful for how to recover particular files. As your new laptop will be Lion and you don't want to recover the old OS.. just the various files you had stored.

  • Time Capsule Issue Help!!!!!

I had a time macbook for 3 yrs! About a week ago it got liquid damage and was replaced. I used time machine for backup and wireless connections. In the past I have looked multiple times and seen my content was back up. Today after setting up my new macbook pro and time capsule back up to it.  I went to go transfer files from time capsule and there was nothing but the current back ups from todays date. I had to perform a soft reset to set up a new password. From my understanding a soft reset doesnt erase previous backups it just allow seeting changes to be made. I need someone help because all my photos, video and import information is in that time capsule (or not). HELP SOMEONE PLEASE!!!!

How did you set up your new Mac?  The best way is to use Setup Assistant to load everything from the backups.  See How do I set up a new Mac from an old one, its backups, or a PC?
Depending on how you set it up, and what you've done since then, the reason you can't see the old backups is because they're for a different Mac.  Time Machine normally only shows the backups for the Mac it's running on.  To see backups for a different Mac, you need the Browse... option per Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #17.

  • Airport Extreme and external HDD time capsule issues

I'm going to try to provide as much information for you so that you can recommend a fix to the problem.
    1. I've just become an Apple owner and also purchased Airport Extreme (AE) a Belkin USB (4 port) hub and a Seagate GoFLex, 1.8T external HDD.
    2. My system:
    Model Name: MacBook Pro
    Model Identifier: MacBookPro8,2
    Processor Name: Intel Core i7
    Processor Speed: 2.2 GHz
    Number of Processors: 1
    Total Number of Cores: 4
L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB
    L3 Cache: 6 MB
    Memory: 4 GB
    Boot ROM Version: MBP81.0047.B04
    SMC Version (system): 1.69f1
    Serial Number (system): XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
    Hardware UUID: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
    Sudden Motion Sensor:
    State: Enabled
    3. Attached to the HUB is HP 6280 printer and the Seagate 1.8T GoFlex external HDD.
    4. I did configure the AE and my internet connect is working spot on.
    5. The AE recognizes the HP6280 printer and it works fine.
    Here's where the problem starts:
When I open Time Machine to configure Time Capsule I cannot get the AE to add thGoFlex external HDD drive to the WiFi.
Do I have reset the AE to default setting and start all over? Is there another way to add the GoFlex to the AE so it recognizes it; then, I can run the set up program for the time machine and have wireless capability.

I hate to have to tell you this, but backing-up with Time Machine software via an Airport Extreme is "iffy" and +*not supported by Apple.+* See [Using Time Machine with an Airport Extreme Air Disk|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/Airport.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).
By the way, a +Time Capsule+ is a wireless router, similar to an Airport Extreme, but a bit larger and with a hard drive built-in, and Time Machine backups to it are supported. In fact, that's the main thing the Time Capsule was designed for. See: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC344LL/A/Time-Capsule-2TB?fnode=MTY1NDA0Mg&mc o=MTMzNzU2MjI

  • Time Capsule issues again, and again!

I have had so many problems with my TC, it has kept on stopping my backups so regularly, started of by saying that it had to start a new backup after 'Verification', another 60GB+ backup, lasting more than 24 hours. I have had the TC replaced completely and started from scratch again.
Now my TC has been nacking up since 24th April and now giving me the same message of 'after Verification' it has to start a new backup, either 'Start Now' or 'Later'. If I start now it does a 60GB+ new backup and wipes out all of my data backups from my Time Machine.
I have spoken to the Tech support guys so many times, I now feel like saying that I want a refund and take it back; what's the point of doing all these backups over a number of months, to lose them all because it's not fit for yje purpose designed!!
Please somebody from Apple take charge and rectify these problems....
    Very disappointed Apple user

Do you know how I change the channel on the TimeMachine?
First, see what channels are in use by those other networks.  Pick one with some room on either side.  Unfortunately, there may be other networks iStumbler can't see, so you may have to try several.
Use Airport Utility > Manual Setup > Wireless.  Select Manual for Radio Channel Selection, then click Edit.
How far is your TC from your iMac?  If you can connect to it via Ethernet, it will be much faster (2-3 times), and far more reliable than WIFI (and you don't need to fool with channels, unless there's also a wireless device on your network).
Is it also just a matter of using my TC with CCC, just re-formatting it and configuring it to be used (it’s a 1TB)?
No.  CCC cannot back-up over a network.
What I'm recommending is continuing to back up via Time Machine to your TC (since you already have it), and getting an external HD to use with CCC as additional or "secondary" backups.  See #27 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions for details and some recommendations.
