  • The Time Capsule light continues flashing yellow.

The machine seems to be working fine with the wifi and backup systems.  I reset the wifi and the light stopped flashing and was green for a couple of hours, but then started again.  Tried a second time with the same outcome.  Any ideas?

If you have not already done so, you will need to download and install the full featured version of AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion
Then open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility 5.6
    Click Manual Setup
Click directly on the word Status (2nd line) and a window will open to explain why the Time Capsule is complaining....along with suggestions to remedy the issue. It might be something as simple as a message that an update is available for the Time Capsule.
Suggest that you keep both AirPort Utility 5.6 and 6.0 on your Mac.  (You cannot delete AirPort Utility 6.0)

  • Time Capsule light is blinking yellow

There appear to be two issues.
    1.  No DNS Server(s)
    2.  Double NAT
How do I correct these issues?
    Thank you.

When I go to "Off (Bridge Mode)", it tells me that I cannot be in that mode if I want to maintain my guest network.  Will that be an issue at the end of this process?
The type of "modem" that you have dictates that the Time Capsule must be configured in Bridge Mode to work correctly...to avoid the Double NAT error on the network. Unfortunately, the Guest Network feature cannot be enabled when the Time Capsule is in Bridge Mode. So, it's kind of a "Catch 22".
Apple assumes that you have a "simple" modem, but you don't. You have a gateway device, which is combination modem/router in one box.
    2.     After I power up the modem, does it matter the order in which I power up other devices -- IMac, Time Capsule, and Airport Express being the only ones other than the modem that are on the network?
The important thing is that after you power everything down, that you power up the modem first, then any device that is directly connected to the modem...like the Time Capsule. After that, the order is not critical.

  • My Time capsule A1302 has the yellow light on continuously

My Time capsule A1302 has the yellow light on continuously

A slow, blinking amber light indicates that there is a setting that needs to be checked, or an update may be available for the Time Capsule.
A solid amber light indicates that either the hard drive has failed, or the power supply is having problems. This link may provide some help:

  • New internet provider (moved from Comcast to Uverse) and I can't get my new network to stay put, and I can't get my Time Capsule to stop blinking yellow

I have moved from Comcast to Uverse, and can't get my TIme Capsule to stop blinking yellow.  I know it isn't updating.  Additionally, I can't get my computer to recognize the 'new' wireless network.  It keeps changing back to the 'old' network.

You have two separate issues here. although both were created with the recent changes on your network.
Find out why the Time Capsule is blinking amber as follows:
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click directly on the the Time Capsule icon
Click directly on the amber dot....and another window will open to explain more about the issue...along with suggested actions that you can take to remedy the issue.
If you want your Mac to connect first to the "new" network....
Open System Preferences (gear icon) on the dock
    Open Network
Click on WiFi on the left
Click Advanced at the lower right
Make sure that the name of the network that you want the Mac to connect to first appears at the top of the connection order list. Drag the name to the top if it is not there now.
    Click OK
    Click Apply
Now your Mac will attemp to connect first to the network that you positioned at the top of the connection order list.

  • My time capsule  light

My time capsule light does not go green every time i switch it on. The light flashes amber. I have to switch it off and back on until it does. Any ideas

This means you have a connection problem or something is wrong in the settings. You can see evactly what is causing the problem in the AirPort Utility.

  • Time Capsule light fail

my 2TB time capsule light just went out.  I have trouble shooted everything, light will not come on but I can tell power is on, i.e. it hums...what next?

That is unusual fault on 2TB unless it is gen3.. just the last of the series they went to 2TB drives..
    Check on the bottom .. is it Gen3 A1355 or Gen4 A1409??
    How old?
Any Gen4 should be covered by applecare still.. if you have applecare on any computer, get it replaced by apple as this is serious fault. If in warranty of course get it replaced.
Do a factory reset if you haven't already. Let it cool down.. several hours. Hold in reset and power it on.. keep holding in reset... for about 10sec.. longer about 15sec if the front LED doesn't come on... release reset.
Does the little green led come on with ethernet connection?
Only if you have no applecare or warranty should you consider any other fix.
I need to know model and age to go any further. You can open the TC and make sure all the plugs are in tight.
You can also disconnect the hard disk completely. Beyond that you will need a replacement power supply.

  • Time capsule light not on - any thoughts on what is wrong?

Has anyone experienced your TIme Capsule light not being on after rebooting several times?

Leave it off for a few hours.. if it gives a flicker and then fails again.. the Power Supply is indeed dead.
How old is it and what model.. A1xxx from the rubber foot?
It is absolutely normal on the Gen1 and Gen2 TC for this to happen.. indeed if it is one of those, A1254 or A1302 it has lasted longer than most.
If it is Gen3 ie A1355 it is a different issue.
Apple will replace if in warranty of course or less than 3years old and you have applecare on a computer, with certain conditions.
You can repair the earlier ones if you are so inclined.. and Apple cannot or will not help.

  • HT3728 My Time Capsule light keep changing to yellow/Amber

How do I fix a problem when my time capule light keep changing to yellow/amber

You will need a better utility for troubleshooting and future configuration needs, so please download and install AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion
Keep both AirPort Utility 5.6 and AirPort Utility 6.x on your Mac
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility 5.6
Click on the Time Capsule to highlight it, then click Manual Setup
Click directly on the word Status (2nd line) and another window will open with details about why the amber light is blinking.
It might be something as simple as a message that an update is available for your Time Capsule
If it is something else, what does the message say?

  • Time Capsule light blinking yellow

I know what this means if it were a street light. What does it mean on the TC? It seems to be working properly otherwise; at least the airport is. I don't have a clue how to check if it is backing up or not??

    WendellJ, welcome to the discussions!
If everything appears to be normal and you have a blinking yellow light, it is probably an alert for a firmware update your Time Capsule.
To verify, Open Hard Drive > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on Manual Setup at the lower left of the pane when AirPort Utility opens.
The next page is a Summary of your settings. Click on "Status" and another window will open with a message explaining the reason for the blinking yellow light.

  • My old Dell is connected to the Internet thru a modem. My time capsule will only flash yellow from the same modem.  I cannot get it to oprate with steady green light

I have hit the reset button multiple times. I have moved the cables both on the back of the Airport Time Capsule and the Modem, without achieving progress.
I have followed the instruction in the Time capsule directions multiple times. and still cannot achieve the Green Light!
I am stuck and unable to sign on with my MacBook Pro that does not recognize the Time Capsule, because it clearly is not properly functioning.

How old is the TC? Is this the AC version.. then you are stuck.
If it is gen4 or earlier download the airport utility 5.6 for windows and use that on your Dell.
If you have ipad/iphone with iOS 6 or greater you can download the latest airport utility for iOS and use that.. it is much better apparently than the Mac version.
What OS is on the Mac?
It is well worth buying the Thunderbolt to ethernet adapter.. do you happen to already have it.. so you can plug in by ethernet?
Otherwise just do the process again.
But this time do it in isolation.. turn off the modem.
Hard reset or factory reset the TC.
Wait for a few minutes for it to come backup and then open the wifi and you can locate the TC listed in the wifi.. click on it and the airport utility will come up. Setup in isolation so you can then select it and change it to bridge mode.. then plug back into the modem and turn it on.
    What modem is it BTW?

  • HT3728 Time Capsule LED is solid Amber, will not show up in Airport Utility after any resets.  Ideas?

Went to update my TC after adding my AppleID to the "Back to Mac" menu and in the Airport Utility screen a meesage popped up saying "An error ocurred while reading the configuration" and the TC disappeared from the Airport Utility screen.  Now there is just a solid amber light.  Unplugging the unit for over a minute and then plugging it back in has the same result.  A soft reset does nothing, a hard reset does nothing, and a factory reset gets the amber light blinking but when I release the reset it goes back to solid amber.  None of these resets gets the TC to show up in the Airport Utility.
    I appreciate any help.  Thanks.
    Model: A1409 Time Capsule 2TB

The solid amber light is an indication that the TC cannot get out of startup mode, likely due to a power supply component failure.
Solid amber is not power supply.. it is a dead hard disk.. the TC cannot finish its boot if the hard drive is not working.
    Jeepaxle
If the TC is in warranty or you have applecare on any computer Apple should replace it..
Otherwise it is the poor WD green drive they now use..
Open the TC and replace it.
Sometimes a low level format will revive them.. but I never trust a drive again that died.. Look for a 2TB hitachi or Toshiba.. (same thing). Far better than WD green.

  • Time capsule set up- solid amber... help!

I have just bought a new Time Capsule- have connected it to my wi-fi network through the ethernet cable but the light on the time capsule remains solid amber! I have tried to scan for the device using airport utilities but can't see it don't know what to do as the instructions which came with the device are too cryptic for me to work my way out ...

    Welcome to the discussions!
Power the TC down for at least 30 minutes, then perform a factory default reset on the device.
When you are ready, hold in the reset button and keep holding it in as you plug the power back in to the TC.
Release the reset button after approximately 10 seconds.
If you continue to see a solid amber light after several attempts, you have a defective TC that will need to be replaced.

  • HT3728 My tall time capsule light is flashing orange. What does that mean? and what do I do?

HI, my tall time capsule is flashing orange. What does that mean? And how do i correct it to be green?

Click the Finder icon on the dock at the lower left of your Mac's screen, then open Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click directly on the Time Capsule picture
If you see an Update button, click it
Otherwise, click on the small amber icon and a message will appear to tell you why the amber light is flashing

  • When Time capsule light reverts to blinking orange

... do the backup and the network connection continue unabated?
I find that if I plug TC out and plug it back in again it will revert to green. But have I compromised the backup un the meantime?
Anything to be done to remedy this?

It means there is some sort of error or mis-configuration. If you open Airport Utility and click on the Time Capsule icon in the display you should see the orange "light" in the display. If you click on it, that will open a dialog that should tell you what the problem is.
