Time Capsule lost

I set up my time capsulate 3 days ago for two of my Macs and it worked perfectly for 2 days. I went to add an additional MacBook but none of my Macs can see the Time Capsule anymore, but it still shows then green light. I tried unplugging and restarting. Any ideas?

Restart everything.. so shut down the modem and all the way to the Macs.. restart in order.. modem.. Router/TC.. Macs.. wait 2 min for each to restart.
The TC should become available again.
Next time it goes missing. Access it via the finder / go /go to server
Using the IP address not the name. ie AFP://IPAddressTC by default it will be 10.0.1.1 but substitiute what it actually is in your network.. If you have it bridged, use some method to keep the TC locked to one address.

  • Time Machine backup on Time Capsule - lost

    Hi,
I changed the password on my 1 TB Time Capsule, as well as the WPA personal password. I then realized later on that Time Machine no longer connected to the MacBook Pro backup on my TC. I saw a support article about changing the password in Keychain Access so that TM would be able to access the backup on TC. I made the necessary changes (I think). I tried to set up TM to connect back to the already 2+ year old backup, but I am not able to. What can be done?
    Thanks

Did anything on your Mac change recently, such as the main logic board or disk drive?  In either of these cases Time Machine will want to start backups over again.
If Time Machine didn't offer to let you use the old backup set, I'm not sure there's much you can do.  It's possible there's help in either of these, but I'm not optimistic:

  • TIME CAPSULE lost JPGs (not via regular Backup) ?

Hello, a question ... (and sorry for my "bad-school-english"...) !!
I am the owner of a TIME CAPSULE (1TB) and of course i use the BACKUP (TIME MACHINE) Function.
I´ll save data/jpgs (separate not via Backup !!!) on the harddisk of the TC.
I´ll delete close to 2.000 jpgs by mistake.(stuuupid)
DATA RESCUE II & PICTURE RESCUE are only able to search missing data in usb-harddisk... but not on TIME CAPSULE ...
how can i recover the jpgs ?
    any ideas ?
(i have no regular backups on TimeMachine)
Would be great to get some support !!
    thanx

Hello diakpauli. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
I'm not 100% sure, but I think your only option recover these files is to temporarily remove the TC's internal hard drive (this will void your warranty); place it in a USB/SATA drive caddy and connect it directly to your Mac. Then run your recovery utilities to attempt to retrieve these files. When done, you would reinstall the drive into the TC.

  • Time Capsule lost my old backup

My iMac(27") and time capsule (2TB) worked fine until I securely formatted iMac's hard drive. Time capsule asked to back up as usual, i didnt realise what i did, time capsule started to back up from the day of formatting iMac's hard drive. I cant go back to my old back ups. is there any way that i can still get my old files.
I havent formatted the timecapsule or deleted any data from it.
lately i have tried doing same with my Macbook Air (13" 2011) and securely formatted the hard drive, it asks me for new back up, im scared that i may loose my old back up for this one too. I can still get my old files, but if i started backup it will start from fresh and loose all my old files.
    Please help.

You did things in the wrong order.. by allowing the TM to backup a new install it could well have completely overwritten the previous backup. The way TM works is very complex and you should read Pondini's description of that as well.
To check if anything is still available, use the info pondini provided.

  • Time Capsule lost connection, now my computer tells me there's no AirPort-card installed... HELP!

This morning my Time Capsule blinked orange for a minute, then went back to green. In the meantime I couldn't see one single wifi network through my Airport, it just showed as no connection and no networks available (my husband also on this wireless network, had no problems though). I decided to restart my computer and after doing that my Airport told me there's no AirPort-card installed. I can't look for my Time Capsule now as it won't detect it of course, so through that there is no way of solving it. I did the disk First Aid as read somewhere that checking and resetting the authorities for writing (I'm sorry, really don't know the right term for this, in Dutch: Schrijfbevoegdheden) might help but that didn't do anything. I really don't know what to do, sure it's a software program but I'm a total nitwit with computers and don't want to start just doing things and messing it up even worse... Any help is much appreciated!!!

Updating to 10.5.6 fixed the issue.

  • Time capsule lost data

Hi, I have just had my TC replaced it had no light on the front, it had been working fine for several months. I have been told the data is not reteivable. Can anyone tell me why this is the case? TA

Without more information about the problem, we'll have to guess a bit.
If the TC was non-operational due to an internal failure, it is probably not possible to connect to it to retrieve the data on the disk unless repairs are made first.
If the internal drive was not damaged, it might be possible to open the Time Capsule and remove the drive and transfer the data to another disk. This would normally be an operation for an experienced technician.

  • Time Capsule lost configuration

I went into my network settings and made the network available only between 6 am and midnight.  I saved it, but then the computer couldn't get on the internet.  When I clicked on the wifi it keeps asking me for a WPA2 password, which I entered but it is saying is incorrect.  When I went back to my network settings, all my configurations are gone and it is locating an OLD bellsouth info.  How do I fix it?

A sudden power outage or voltage surge due to  a thunderstrorm or similar can cause the Time Capsule and other AriPort rotuers to lose their settings and return to factory defaults.
You might want to plug the Time Capsule into a surge protected power strip to help minimize the chances of this occuring again the future.

  • Time capsule lost past

Hi. I have an iMac operating on version 10.9.5 and it has an time capsule attached to it. I use this combination as my 'vault' i.e things I don't need all the time and back up of everything I have. I also have a macbook air operating on pre yosemite OSX I holding back until issues dealt with). Things I need on both machines are handled via dropbox.
So my issues is that I was away from home for a good 8 weeks. When I got back I started up my iMac and as usual time capsule would have done its thing while I was working. Later I entered time capsule to look for a file that seemed to have been corrupted (so I wanted to go back in time). On my time machine bar it only goes back to February 10th whereas normally I would expect to go back a long time. there have been no sudden large scale changes in file size to warrant a complete delete of old back-ups and nor, as you can see have I changed my OSX operating system to delete anything.
So any clues or help would be appreciated

Bought in SEP 2011.  Guess I'm screwed...
    Not yet.
Not all the serial numbers show up.. I don't want the serial number .. I want the part or model number.
It should be MD032 (or MD033 and some letter for region, LL/A for US) or A1409 being part and model number respectively.
Anyhow you should do the following.
Plug the TC into a computer with ethernet. Turn off wireless in the computer.
Now open the airport utility.. can you find the TC? If so reduce its firmware to 7.6.1 or 7.5.2 (if it is 7.6.3. which is lousy).
Simply hold down the option key when you select version.
You may need ipv6 turned on to local-link to do it.
After you download and install the new firmware.. do a factory reset of the TC.
With the TC powered off.. Hold down the reset button.. and power on the TC.. whilst still holding in the reset.. and keep holding for around 10sec until the front LED flashes rapidly.
Redo the setup of the TC using all short names, (10-20characters is plenty) with no spaces and pure alphanumeric. Same for any passwords but wireless one can be longer.
    Use wpa2 personal security only.
If the TC keeps having trouble.. it is probably faulty.. it is 2years old and will be covered if you have applecare on a computer.. or even if you buy a computer.. up to 2years between purchases should still cover the TC.
Otherwise it has one of a number of faults which i have yet to explore in Gen4... but it can be bad capacitors on the board and fairly difficult to fix.

  • Time Capsule "lost" backup?

I came back to my Mac today to a network error saying something to the effect that Time Machine couldn't find the Time Capsule. I didn't much attention to it since I assumed it was due to a power outage we had earlier in the day. I went ahead and told Time Machine to "Back Up Now" and went about my business. I just noticed that it was running for quite a while on this hour's backup and it turns out it's trying to make a new backup and cannot see the one it's been using for the past 2 months. Is there a way to force it to see the old one and reuse it? I don't think the power outage had anything to do with it because I'm fairly certain the first backup after power was restored went fine.

The other day he went to get a file off the TC which was on the iMac. To his horror, he couldn't see any files at all for the iMac.
There are two things that he can do to investigate whether those backups exist:
    1) If he mounts the Time Capsule disk, he should see one or more "sparsebundle" files, one for each Mac that has been backed up. If the iMac backups are there, he should be able to see the file containing those.
    2) That first operation may verify that the iMac backups are there, but aren't the best way to access them. To do that, he should click-and-hold or control-click on the Time Machine icon in the Dock, then choose the option to "Browse Other Time Machine Disks". (He can also option-click on the Time Machine menu bar icon to expose that option.) One of the available options may be the iMac's backups. If he doesn't see anything useful by doing this, he should first mount the Time Capsule disk.

  • Connection to Time Capsule lost

Suddenly my Time Capsule is not listed in Finder under Shared.
Airport Utility scans, but cannot find it. The TC is on, the LED is green.
    What should I do?

I've had the same problem. Power off and then on on the Time Capsule has always fixed it.
Unfortunately, the problem recurs frequently, several times a week.
Any suggestions for how to prevent this repeated loss of wireless signal would be appreciated.

  • Installed Time Capsule, lost access to NAS server

I have a MBP and installed the TC behind my modem, then it connects to the home network. Backup of laptop worked fine. I have a NAS server that I have always connected with via its SMB address. However now my MBP cannot locate it. The server has all of my backed up data files, so I need to get them over to the TC.
    1. How do I navigate to the server?
    2. Do I have to move the files I want to backup on the TC over to the MBP first and then allow Time Machine to back them up? That's going to demand a lot of storage space on my MBP. Other suggestions?
    Tnx

After a half dozen calls to AppleCare we figured it out.
    1. With TC running the newtwork, all IP addresses were changed, including the NAS Server IP address. I called the mfg of the server to get help identifying the new IP address. They suggested that I download a freeware Mac IP scanner, which I found using Google. I ran one of them and it gave me several addresses to try out in my browser in an effort to get into the setup menu for the server. After some trial and error I hit on the right IP address, set up the server name, username, password and then used that info to navigate to the server via the MBP Finder-Go-Connect to Server menu.
    2. Can't back up a server to the TC, ***. I have to copy it all to my MBP if I want it to backup...
Oh well 1-for-2 was not bad.

  • Time Capsule lost my network

I had a wireless network all set up with AirPort. It started giving me fits, so I decided to use that as an excuse to pick up the 500 gb TC. Yesterday it set up fine, giving me my wireless network that I used my PS3 on. Today, my network is gone. Completely. I've reset the TC, unplugged, replugged, and my Mac won't see the TC as a wireless device. I can access the internet via TC with the ethernet connection, but not wirelessly. Now, I have been trying to get Time Machine to work and it wouldn't. Is it possible I've managed to screw up my wireless network, or erase it completely, this way? Why won't it start from scratch?

I have the exact same problem. How did you resolve it?

  • Time Capsule Lost Connections in Windows Vista

I recent bought a tm, but i cant maintain my wireless connections when i access the hard drive, please help me.

What is the format on the external USB drive?
Have you setup the disk in workgroup correctly to the network workgroup name?
Turn on guest read and write at least to get things started. If you turn on password or changed the default password you will need to remember that.
How are you trying to access the disk? It will more than likely not show up in network shares, without deliberately using the tc ip.. so open explorer and type in \\YOUR_TC_IP_ADDRESS\Share_name
If you have installed the airport utility for windows it should also install the required files to find the disk.

  • Time Capsule can't be found - Lost Data??

Out of the blue, Time Capsule lost connection with my Mac, and I cannot connect to it. I shut it down, restarted, but AirPort Utility cannot see it no matter how many time I scan.
I just noticed this, but I thought something was missing from my sidebar... went to print today from my printer connected, and that's when I realized I've been using a neighbors wi-fi connection for internet.
Does this mean I lost my Time Machine backup? I'm really not happy with Apple right now.
    Please help!
    Bryan

You likely did not lose your Time Machine backup, but you don't really know when back ups stopped. Likely your iMac lost the TC wireless connection only. Just a matter of correcting your network setup. Or just connect via ethernet to access TC via AirPort Utility.

  • In Ical I lost one of my calendar group, how do I restore it from time capsule

in Ical i lost one of my calendar groups, how do I get it back.  I have a time capsule.
    thanks

    salvsalinas,
Look in your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library Folder, where you will find a "Calendars" Folder, which can be replaced using Time Machine.
Make sure that you quit iCal before attempting to replace the folder, and choose a timeline when the group last existed.
    Good Luck.
