Time capsule makes high pitch noise then shuts down

Time capsule makes high pitches noise then shuts down

Unfortunately, this is the sound of the high voltage capacitors in the main power supply failing. It will not be long until the Time Capsule makes no sound.
If the Time Capsule in warranty, Apple will replace it. If you have AppleCare in effect on one of your Macs, the Time Capsule might be covered as well if it is not more than 3 years old.
Take the Time Capsule to an Apple Store....if you have one near you....to discuss your options.
Or, contact Apple Support directly.

If the Time Capsule is out of warranty, Apple will not offer repairs, but there are some shops that will repair the device for you. See this link for more details:

  • Time Capsule has high pitch noise

I guess these things are notorious for their internal power supply failing. My time capsule started making a high pitch noise yesterday. Is this a sign of the power supply failing? Any idea of how much it would cost to repair? I have no applecare.

    Welcome to the discussions!
Unfortunately, a high pitched squeal is almost always a sign of a power supply capacitor that is failing. Suggest you contact Apple to get the name of a nearby authorized Apple repair shop.
This link may also provide some help on repairs, although I cannot vouch for any of these shops.

  • GRUB makes high pitched noise....forever

Whenever I get into grub it makes a high pitched mosquito-ringtone type noise. The type that your parents are supposed to be unable to hear. When I first installed Ubuntu 3 years ago, it did the same thing, but it stopped after 2-3 seconds. Now, in Arch and Ubuntu (32 and 64bit) it just keeps going forever until I boot. I have tested it until I had to start an OS or risk a migraine.
Does anyone else get this? The problem has followed me across 3 computers, and others in my family have heard it too, so it isn't just me or my machine.
[off-topic]Where would this go in the Arch Support section? It's not the Kernel....and it isn't Arch specific[/off-topic]

  • HT201263 My 3GS has gone faulty. It won't power up and with a wall charger connected, only gets as far as the apple logo. It then makes a vibration noise and shuts down again

Hi guys, looking for some assistance with my 3GS. A few weeks back it started playing up. Shutting down suddenly and the like. Now, it's failing to start up. When I connect it to a wall charger, the apple logo comes on and after a short while it vibrates and then gives the 'connect to iTunes' message. The minute I disconnect from the wall, it just shuts down. If I keep it connected at the wall it goes through the above sequence before shutting down and repeats the cycle again and again.
I've tried all the 'recovery' methods without any success. The device is not recognised by iTunes. I've taken it to small independent repair outlets who say they can't repair it. Is there anything I can do or is it totally gone for good?

It MAY have a bad battery, and that may be all it needs. But you can't find out until you replace the battery, and then you might find out it's something different. It's a 4 year old phone; consider getting a newer model. If you take it to an Apple store they should be able to diagnose it. Make a Genius Bar appointment before going to avoid a long wait.

  • Loud high pitched noise then nothing;g3 ibook

Dont sound good to me.I took the casing off to try and re-plug the connections on the internal drive as the mac was dead.I did this and it was fine,so i put the case back together, switched on and got the high pitched sqweel for about 5 seconds. Now shes completely dead.Any suggestions?

Sounds like you need to take it to a technician for evaluation and repair.

  • My I phone charger is really hot, and can make high pitch noises is this normal?

My iphone is getting really hot and it is starting to worry me is it meant to do that?

    No, not normal at all.
Do you have another charger you can try?
If not, I would recommend you make an appointment at an Apple store and bring your phone & its charger in to be examined and to determine if they need to be replaced.

  • Left fan in my MBP makes some weired noise when shutting down

Hi, my model is 2.4 Late 2008, few days ago the left side of my mbp dropped on the table because I forgot to take out the headphone when I stood up.. Now every times I turn off the computer, the left fan makes noises that sound like the fan is touching to the cover (when the fan slows down). What should I do now?
    Thank you very much.

  • Time Capsule Makes a High PItched Noise.

This morning I found that my Time Capsule has started making a high pitched noise. That is really annoying and concerning.
    any thoughts?

Same thing happened to me just now. Sounded like air escaping from balloon through a small hole.
I unplugged the TC and waited for a few minutes. Plugged it back in and it simply did it again.
I had a steady amber light come on, but after about 30 seconds, the TC would shut off.

  • On my iphone 4s I got a scratch on it,then about a month later there are verticle lines and a high pitch noise til it is done focusing. What's wrong with my phone?

    Hello
Okay so I have had my Iphone for almost an entire year and there's a problem. I have gotten a scratch a scratch about a month ago on the back camera. It's at the very bottom. I've gotten used to it so it doesn't bother me. Well ever since like a week ago my camera gets colorful lines that are verticle and go away when it's focused. Not to mention the high pitch noise while it focuses with the lines. I'm getting irritated with it. Mainly what's is wrong with my phone?! Also how much is the cost?

Since we can't examine your phone, we really have no idea what is wrong.  Why don't you make an appointment at your local Genius Bar and get the phone examined and what your options are moving forward.

  • My macbook pro 2006 fan goes high and then makes a fast beep and shuts down it been happening since i updated

my macbook pro 2006 fan goes high and then makes a fast beep and shuts down it been happening since i updated it should i update to lion?

No, this problem should be solved.
The MBP shuts down when too hot, to protect itself. First see if it is a process running astray: start Activity Monitor (in Applications/Utilities) choose <all processes> and click the %CPU column: are there processes that are using more than 50% cpu power? If yes click it and quit it, and tell us which one.

  • I know this has been posted a few times but, High Pitch noises!!!!!!!!!

I keep getting wierd high pitch noises from the MOBO, I have tried to push in the MSI plate on the NB but it didn't stop the noise. But what I have found out stops it is kind of wierd.
If I go into any Windows Explorer window and right click on certain icons, (i.e. C: Hard Drive, the nVidia Ethernet Adapter, or my DVD-RW) the noise stops suddenly, but if I click off of the right click menu the noise starts back up again. I don't get it? Also if I use my mouse wheel and scrol up and down rapidly, the sound stops while I am scrolling, but once I stop it comes back.
I know that this has been posted a few times, but I still haven't found any way to stop the noise other than the ways above. So if anyone has/had the same problem and knows how to fix it, I would really appreciate it if you would share.
EDIT: I have also tried to return my CPU to stock speeds but there is still a noise.

Im sure this noise, is the copper coils around the components near the cpu socket.. its a known problem on MSI boards, where they start to resernate / vibrate.
I've seen two solutions, neither have i tried, as I don't have the problem, but they are pretty harmless.
one is to apply a small amount of superglue over the copper coils, allow to set and switch back on,, or a safer way (in my opinion) is to use some wax (or electical sealing wax).

  • Do all x201s make a high pitched noise?

I really like my x201, which I have owned for 2 days.  I really cannot stand the sound of it though, it makes a really high pitched noise (think dentist drill), not really loudly, but enough to drill into my head.  I have found a solution, run it at the slowest speed or wear headphones while using it.  Neither are particularly appealing.
My question to you, owners of x201s, does your model do this as well?  Please state your CPU type and model number.
    CPU: Core i5, M540
Type: 3249 A25 (on the tag next to the serial number)

ok.  i fixed it.  full speed, no noise.  adaptive speed, no noise.
of course, a BIOS update cured it.  why did i not try this first.  old bios was 1.17, updating to 1.31 was the cure.

  • Unknown iMac High Pitched Noise

    Hey,
My Grandma got an iMac (Intel C2D) and today it makes a high pitched noise. I am unsure where the noise is coming from in the machine. The noise happens all the time, and it even happens when it is off?
Is there something like a software update for this? or should we send it in for service?
    Thanks,
    - Devon Merner

Since you noted that the noise is present even when the Mac is off, it's probably emitted by the transformer in the power supply unit. It should be considered a hardware defect, though not a serious one but can still be annoying, it happens sometimes on electronics.
You can try reset SMU by shutting down the Mac, disconnect all cables and wait for at least 15 seconds, then reconnect cables and start. (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303446)
And you can also try reset PRAM, though I doubt it's going to do anything, see
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238
if these doesn't work, you should call Applecare and make your case, if you can clearly reproduce the problem you shouldn't have a lot of trouble getting it serviced.
