Time capsule mountain lion

how do I disconnect all users from time capsule in mountain lion, the option seems to no longer be available
I am encountering can't back up sparse bundle in use.  In previous versions you could go to airport utility and disconnect all users to restart time capsule.
Mountain Lion doesn't seem to have that option anymore

The restart command is on the menu bar under Base Station on mine.
Also you can still use the 'old' 5.6 AirPort Utility available here http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
I'm not sure if it installs directly on 10.8, it works fine on my upgraded lion machine but was installed before the upgrade.
Hope this helps

  • Time Capsule + Mountain Lion + Cable Modem = Unhappy

    Greetings,
I have a frustrating networking issue that I *think* is related to Mountain Lion, but I'm not sure.  Here is the situation.
I have a cable modem connected to my Time Capsule.  It has been connected for more than 1 year with the same configuration and cables, and worked just fine.  I use the Time Capsule to connect my MacBook Air, iMac, a couple of iPhones/iPads, and several other wireless and wired network devices to the internet.
This week, I installed the Mountain Lion upgrade on my two macs.  I was able to download and install the update on both computers, but immediately after that, my Time Capsule and my Cable Modem will not connect to each other.
When I plug my MacBook Air directly into the Cable Modem it works fine.
When I plug the Time Capsule into the modem, it initially lets me connect to the internet for anywhere from few seconds to a minute or two, then I lose the internet.
    Troubleshooting steps I've taken:
Power cycled the cable modem multiple times.
Power cycled the Time Capsule multiple times.
Reset Time Capsule to factory defaults and set it up from scratch as a new Time Capsule
Replaced ethernet cable between the two.
Tried OpenDNS servers instead of my cable provider DNS servers
Tried requesting new DHCP lease on Time Capsule, and it doesn't appear that anything changes.
Disconnected all other devices from the network, just the Time Capsule and the MacBook are connected
I've talked with my cable modem support.  They say everything with the cable modem is fine, it is the Time Capsule that is bad.
I've talked with Apple, and they say the Time Capsule is fine it is the cable modem that is bad.
Neither have been able to fix it!
I'm not 100% sure this is realated to the Mountain Lion upgrade.  Prior to the upgrade, I had noted my internet connection speeds had been erratic over the last couple of weeks.  I can't remember for sure, but think the Time Capsule did get a firmware upgrade a week or two ago.  I can't remember if that was when it started to act up or not.
Any Time Capsule/Network gurus out there who can help?  Have other Mountain Lion updaters had similar problems?

Update: I think I've pinpointed this problem to the Time Capsule.  I've replaced the Time Capsule with my Airport Express, and everything works flawlessly.  So:
Cable Modem -> MacBook Air (via ethernet cable) = Works fine
Cable Modem -> Airport Express -> MacBook Air = Works fine
Cable Modem -> Time Capsule -> MacBook Air = Doesn't work
I've reset the Time Capsule to factory defaults (holding down reset button while plugging in power) = no change
When I first plug the Time Capsule into the Cable Modem, I can get internet for few seconds.  But eventually the "Internet" status light in Airport Utility goes yellow and I can't access the internet at all.
It would be interesting to try a different cable modem with the Time Capsule but I don't have one.
Time to call Apple again I think.

  • Trouble with Time Capsule & Mountain Lion - unexpected error occurr when setting up connection to an existing network

    Hi,
My TC was working perfectly fine until 2 weeks ago...
I have 2 MacBook Pro 2009 & 2012, I used the TC has wireles external hard disk for Time Machine.
I installed Mountain Lion on my oldest MacBook Pro (the newest has already Mountain Lion installed) 2 weeks ago. The installation was not straight forward... I tried to perform a clean installation, but I had difficulties with some applications.. anyway after a few days, everything went fine and smooth, I had to reconnect my TC with but it works fine, I could perform a few back-up with Time Machine.
But ... since 5 days ago, my TC is not find any more when I enter Time Machine... I went to Utility Airport and the TC was not connected, just circeld with dashed line and I cannot enter the set up mode.. I tried several things that did not worked and finally performed a reinitialisation of my TC with restauration of factory setting. This helped a bit because I could finally see my TC in utility arport in the wifi connected devices. I tried to et up my TC and connect it to an existing network. It went fine when specifying on whch network I want to connect, chossing a name for the TC and its password.
But then...  I got an error message: An unexpected error has occured. Retry. I never get the window asking for the password for the network.
I retried but, It did not help, now the airport is no more visible in the wifi connected devices in airport utility...
    Any thoughts, ideas?
    Thanks,
    Yvan

If you have a clean install of Mountain Lion it will remove the 5.6 utility.. but this is still better for setups than the new one. .. certainly for Gen4 TC or earlier.
The setup of the TC manually from v5 utility.
Make sure you use all short names.. for the TC itself and for wireless.. I recommend different name for 5ghz as well.
Use WPA2 Personal security and fix wireless channels.. check 11, 6, 1 in that order.
For 5ghz try around 40 and around 150.. doesn't matter which one.
    Use ethernet if wireless fails..
You will hate me but older Mac with ML upgrade that went badly.. sorry get some help to clean install. the wireless in the Mac itself is then the issue.

  • Are Time Machine, Mountain Lion and Retina able to work together?

I have been using for a while Time Machines with various Mac's and OS X systems with no problem.
But Time Machine (backing up on a 2TB Time Capsule) + Mountain Lion (10.8.2) + a Retina Mac Book Pro have been not able to appropriately work together for the last 2 months:
    - TM displays 'none' for 'Oldest Backup'
    - the corresponding-sparse bundle reaches 578 GB
    - whereas the present tinner  storage of the Mac is only 200 GB
    - TM seems to restart in a given way the full backup every time (2 millions itesm..)
    - but it does not take too much time
    - and 'entering' in TM displays daily bakcups for the last week, but not beyond (compared to 2 months), and several (hourly-like) backups for the last day
Unfortunately, the recipes given by http://pondini.org/TM/Home.html seem to be inefficient.
Thank you for sharing your experience(s) with this kind of problem and solution(s) is you have !

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the word "Starting" (without the quotes) in the String Matching text field. You should now see log messages with the words "Starting * backup," where * represents any of the words "automatic," "manual," or "standard." Note the timestamp of the last such message. Clear the text field and scroll back in the log to that time. Select the messages timestamped from then until the end of the backup, or the end of the log if that's not clear. Copy them (command-C) to the Clipboard. Paste (command-V) into a reply to this message.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don't post many repetitions of the same message.

  • After upgrading to Lion I can't access time capsule pre lion.

Last week I backedup to time capsule via cable.
    I then upgraded to Lion.
After upgrading I backedup to TC again.
Now my MBP 17  can't access time capsule pre lion. So I can't see any of my last 2 years of Snow Leopard data.

yikes, I had to move all my years of iPhoto folders/pix from very old iMac to a new HP laptop with PC Vista Home Premium....now finally ready and hoping to do years worth of photo albums! so I go in to these files and of course they don't open...because they're on pc.
    - I am techno ignorant on all this, what can I do? Is there any way I can open these on PC or do I need to go back and reinstall on a very very very old AND slow slow slow mac? these photos were created in 199, 200, 2001 up through 2007 so through many versions of iPhoto and Mac OS. I am hoping I can retrieve them - and very worried I cannot! Would love advice and help.
    - and on a separate note, any good, inexpensive iPhoto and iTunew wizard/tech support professionals out there in the Menlo Park, CA area?

  • How can I resolve OSStatus Error 13 on Time Machine when connecting to Time Capsule on Lion?

This is a semi-rhetorical question: I have now resolved this for my own setup, However, there was very little information on this error in the fora, so I thought I would post my experience with getting a Time Capsule (2TB, 3rd edition) to work on OS X Lion after the AFP/NAS debacle.
    Background
My third party LaCie Big Disk Network* NAS died when Lion came out.
I could access neither Time Machine nor the drive through Finder.
The excellent thread on "Lion: Connecting to legacy (pre-Lion) AFP services - and Mac OS X (server)" (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3258472?start=0&tstart=0) allowed me to access the drive via Finder to save my files but, of course, Time Machine was still broken. That guide showed you how to lift security restrictions on AFP shares.
For reasons explained below [disclaimer: rant follows] I decided to ditch the LaCie and purchased a Time Capsule.
    The Problem
Time Capsule connected via DSL to the net and set up a wifi network with a green light.
The "Data" mount for Time Machine was visible in Time Machine, but trying to access it showed the following error:
The operation couldn’t be completed. (OSStatus error 13)
Trying to open the share in Finder using the appropriate credentials showed:
The operation cannot be completed because the original item for "Data" can't be found
    Things that didn't work
Turning lots of things on and off
Resetting the DSL modem, the router (Time Capsule), the computer
    Repairing permissions
    What DID work
Undoing the modifications made during the process of mounting the old LaCie NAS
To do this, open Terminal and enter:
    sudo -s
    chmod o+w /Library/Preferences
    cd  /Library/Preferences/
    rm com.apple.AppleShareClient.plist*
    (from https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3258472?start=0&tstart=0)
    Then restart your computer.
This worked for me. I don't UNDERSTAND any of why this did or didn't affect the computer, so please don't ask me to explain how it worked or what else to try. I thought I would just put this out there for knowledge.
    * LaCie have really got my goat. Unlike other manufacturers who seem to be trying to provide support for their drives (Western Digital MyBook), LaCie have stated outright that they will not be providing any updates for their Big Disk Network. This is a hard drive they describe as a "Professional NAS", though I can't think of many professions where £200 backups need to be replaced every two years to keep abreast of security updates. In their defence, the drive is no longer manufactured… but, IMHO, I don't see that as sufficient reason to abandon all support or updates immediately. Boo! On the upside, loving my shiny new refurb Time Capsule.

Our true genius died a little while ago.
But up to Mountain Lion he has tones of info ..
    http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
Try some of the section C solutions.
It is more than likely network.
    BUT do the following.
    1. Install the widget A1
    2. Reset TM, A4
    3. Verify the backup, A5
    4. Reboot the whole network and restart it in order.. modem.. TC.. MB Air.
    No luck to this point.
Tell us exactly what OS you have.
The worst possible is Mavericks. If you are trying to connect to old backups after an upgrade it is hopeless.
    I recommend you start over.
Simply wipe the TC and start afresh.
Manually mount the TC disk in Mavericks so you are sure it is working. Tell us if you run into trouble.
Most important.. in wireless network preferences are you running ipv6 in link-local mode.

  • How to delete backed up files from Time Capsule in Lion.

Since I upgraded to Lion I have been unable to delete old backed up items in Time Machine. I use Time Capsule and previously with Snow Leopard I could right click on a file and choose to delete all copies of the file. The option to do that is no longer available. Is there a setting I'm missing here? Thanks.

You cannot delete items from Local backups (the white "tick marks").  See #30 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.

  • Low Battery time after Mountain Lion Update

I would like to know why the Mountain Lion uses more energy... because i realized that my MBP 2011 is using more battery... before I updated it, it usually take 5 or 6 hours to be empty and now it is taking 3 or 4 hours on it's better time... =x is there something wrong with the SO?

There's a huge thread about battery life here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4135250?start=0&tstart=0 .  Hopefully it will be fully addressed in 10.8.2.

  • Clock Consistency Loses Time After Mountain Lion

    Hello,
Its been awhile since mountain lion and this problem has persisted throughout a few updates my clock on my macbook pro 17 Early 2011 is consistently losing time since I upgraded by several hours. I have done a PRAM reset and repaired disk permsions that whole drill, this was a problem I saw in Windows alot but never thought I would see it in a Mac but hey this computer has been a nightmare since I bought it and everyone passed the buck, so in ending is this a known issue thats being worked on? or is it time to take the computer into mac store yet again?

No, it's not a known issue. First I heard of it, any.
If you reset pram and it didn't help, you need to take it in.
If you have a long record of the problems and repairs done, I'd call Customer relations 800-767-2775
    and ask for a replacement.

  • Limiting Time Machine Space on Time Capsule in Lion

    Hello,
I'm about to receive an 11" MacBook Air and 2TB Time Capsule. I want to use Time Machine to backup my data to the Time Capsule, but I want to limit the space Time Machine can use to 768GB. Is there a supported way to do this in Lion?
If not, has anyone tested hacking this with Lion? e.g. http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20071108020121567
    Thanks,
    Will

Did you simply upgrade, or do something like erase and reinstall, or install Lion on a different drive or partition?  If so, what, exacty?
Did you eject the drive before turning it off?  If not, that may have damaged the backups.  In any event, try to Repair them, per #A5 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting.

  • Coping items to Time Capsule on Lion take for ever.

I upgraded to OS X Lion, and since then, the time capsule has been so slow.  It would take 20 mins to drag and drop a 756k file from the desktop to the time capsule.
    Can anyone lend some advice?

I can only suggest the normal stuff. Reset the TC to factory. Connect to it via ethernet and redo the configuration using the airport utility. Give the wireless a new ssid, which will then force you to set up a new setup in airport on the computer. Old setups in new OS, sometimes is just asking for trouble, assuming you copied Lion over SL.

  • Can't Use Time Capsule With Lion

    Hi,
So I have one of the original Time Capsules, running firmware 7.3.2
I have never been able to successfully update the firmware.  No matter what version I try to update to
I always get the same problem:  "An Error Occured While Updating the Firmware"
This hasn't bothered me too much in the past because it has worked fine for both Time Machine and as my wireless router.
I upgraded to Lion yesterday, and the first thing I tried was to check my backups and create a new backup.
When I try back up with TIme Machine, I get "Time Machine can't back up because the firmware must be updated"
When I try to open Time Machine to view old backups, I get "The Operation Can't be Completed" (Finder Fault)
    Help!!!

You've got to figure out a way to upgrade the firmware, or access your data from Snow Leopard.
I don't know if the AppleStore can help; if not, try AppleCare.

  • Can't connect to Remote time capsule in Lion

I have several Macs: in my office, at home in the UK and in the US. I also have time capsules in the three different locations.  (Office, home and US).  All time capsules are set to share over WAN.
My MacBookPro2011 and MacBookAir2011 both run OSX Lion, whereas my Mac Mini and MacBookPro2009 run snow leopard. In the finder under "Shared" my Lion computers do not list my remote time capsule, whereas the Snow Leaopard machines do.  How can I rectify this?  All machines are logged in to back to my mac.
    Many thanks....

Thank you for your help thus far - its very much appreciated.
In the US the TC is the main network-facing router.  In the UK the TCs are part of networks, but not as the main router.
I was rather baffled by the whole thing.  I have added my wife's appleID as an authorised user to the UK time capsules - and she can see them both.  Similarly she entered my appleID as an authorised user of her time capsule.  I've read all the Apple instructions as to how the new BTMM facillity in iCloud should work and how to authorise access through the Airport Utility.  I'm just vexed as to why it works with the Snow Leopard machines and not with the Lion machines - and concerned that if that is the case, once MobileMe is switched off, it won;t work at all!
I'm working on getting static IP addresses for both, but was rather hoping it would be sraigtforward with the existing Apple setup!

I need to make a correction.  I am not using 10.6.8.  I am now using Mountain Lion 10.8.2.
