Time capsule not found by airport after new router

I have a time capsule that I do not use as a router, just for time machine.  It worked fine for a year wirelessly backing up my macs but then I moved and have a new router.  Airport no longer finds the time capsule and it says I can't back it up my macs because the backup disk cannot be found.  I tried plugging the TC in to my modem but no luck.
Thoughts?
Thank you!
Beth

Plug the TC into a computer by ethernet directly.. press and hold the reset until it starts to flash rapidly.. about 10sec. Then the utility should be able to find it and simply set it up in bridge mode..
You should download the 5.6 airport utility for lion as v6 is a toy. You can run both side by side and keep 6 for pretty network pictures.

  • Time Capsule not found in airport utility

I have a 2nd gen time capsule that is having some difficulties.  It seems like it has been since the latest (7.6.1) update.
After a while, my wireless clients cannot connect to it, and it won't show up in the AirPort utility.  If I power cycle it, it shows up again, and clients can connect.
When it isn't listed, the light on it is still green.
It ALSO seems that the time machine can back up to it still .
    Any ideas?

It may help to power cycle the entire network if you have not already done so. This will get everything back in the right sequence on your network.
Just power everything off in any order that you want
    Wait a minute or two
Start the modem first and let it run a minute by itself
Start the next device connected to the modem the same way
Keep starting devices one at a time a minute apart until everything is powered back up

  • Time capsule not found by airport but ethernet cable was working

So I turned time machine off some time ago,( got fed up with it constantly saving whilst recording music and slowing down stuff), now although i was happy (ish) as it was before, i can no longer find in preferences a drive to use as backup.
the alert box tells me that airport cannot locate, when i previously, and still do, have ethernet cabling connected .
The time capsule green light shows, but not backing up.
Can i find back up drives without airport utility being used?

Thanks for th response, i have upgraded to lion some time back and as i recall i've had this prob before and had to do a verification of some kind using the clean up disc utility.
    I have already done...
the verification again without success, I did a repair disc permission on the Mac HDD,i did a restart of TC by unplugging and replugging without success.
I use TC for backup only,  using ethernet and my router is wireless.
i'm reluctant to reset although I would if I could be sure.
    What is the 5.6 utility?
My version 11.5.2, should i install the 5.6? if this is indeed an upgrade?
thanks for your time and patients

  • Airport time capsule not found error message

    HI,
My time capsule is blinking orange.
I open aiport, sometimes airport finds the TC, sometimes not.
    When not, get message:
    "airport time capsule not found"
When TC is found, aiport utitily shows an error with the extended network I am setting up. I press 'edit', the settings all seem good. Re-type passwords etc and update.
    The problem remains.
I have updated the firmware. An apple shop near me has reset TC using the recessed button on back of TC, and then I have re-configured at home.
BTW, TC was working fine in my old house with same laptop, so prob not simply a basic user issue...
4 other devices on my wifi network all have reliable connection, visitors' phones and laptops too, so shouln't be a wifi netowrk issue, ie network outside TC.
    Any thoughts out there?
    HOpe so!
    mana

yes, running airport 6.1, OS 10.7.5
OK.. I failed to ask enough questions.. I think your comment it all used to work threw me.
    1. You are trying to extend wireless network of what router. This will only work with another Apple router.. the way apple built it is in the family only. So please spell out what is the primary router??
If you did have it working to extend the wireless of a non-apple router in your previous house I simply don't know how.. according to Apple it isn't possible. You can use WDS.. that is slow and reduces everything to G wireless.. that is the only way.
    2. When you say in the first post..
4 other devices on my wifi network all have reliable connection, visitors' phones and laptops too, so shouln't be a wifi netowrk issue, ie network outside TC.
I presume if you turn off the TC, these devices still have wireless network because they are connected to the primary router.. not the TC.. again my bad reading.. I assumed they are connected to the TC.
So please spell out the whole network..
    Broadband modem.. type, model, make.
    Main router.. type model make
    Any other network devices.
And how was it setup in your old place and how is it different now.

  • Time Capsule not Showing in Airport Utility

I decided to re-set my Time Capsule this afternoon. The green light is on but it is not showing in the Airport Utility and Time Machine says there is no back up disc available.
    What can I do?

Temporarily, connect a spare Ethernet cable from your Mac to one of the LAN <-> ports on the Time Capsule.
Restart both your Mac and the Time Capsule and then open AirPort Utility to see if your Time Capsule has been found.
If the Time Capsule is still lost, disconnect the Ethernet cable and perform a Factory Default Reset on the Time Capsule as follows:
Pulll the power cord from the back of the Time Capsule
    Wait a few minutes
Hold in the reset button and keep holding it in while you plug the power cord back in to the Time Capsule
Keep holding the reset button an additional 8-10 seconds and then release the button
Allow 30-40 seconds for the Time Capsule to restart to a slow, blinking amber light
Connect the spare Ethernet cable from your computer to one of the LAN <-> ports and open AirPort Utility to reconfigure the device

  • Time capsule not recognized by airport extreme - first time setup challenge

Air port utility not recognizing time capsule. We have airport extreme and time capsule (recent purchase to back up 2 wireless mac laptops and the G5 which is connected to the modem). Modem is conected to airport extreme and I connected the Time capsule via ethernet as I thought the speed would be 1GB and faster than wireless "n." Somehow now the airport extreme does not recognize the time capsule. In the network utility, airport is not listed, only ethernet and firewire. What steps should I take to enable time capsule to back up the laptops wirelessly as well as the G5 (non-wireless.) Thanks!

I would hold the reset button on the back of the Time Capsule for 5-10 seconds and I would wait to connect it to the AirPort Extreme to see if you can set it up. If you can access the Time Capsule with AirPort Utility then I would plug it into the AirPort Extreme and continue your setup.

  • Time capsule not showing in airport utility? recently moved house and new internet set up!

    Hi
I had a time capsule set up and working perfectly then we moved house, changed ISP and now time capsule light is flashing amber.  When I open the Airport Utility only the internet (i.e. a globe) shows, no time capsule.  My Macbook Pro has no ethernet port or I would have tried hardwiring!  I can enter the time machine but back up history is red.
I read that latest OS may require a rename of the capsule if the original name was long (29 characters including spaces at present) but to change it the support says to access it via the airport utiltiy which I can't do!
    Help anyone?!
    Sam

Simply factory reset the TC and start over.
Any time you move the network configuration the TC will require a new configuration.
    The Factory Reset universal
Unplug your TC/AE. Hold in reset. and power the TC/AE back on..  all without releasing reset and keep holding in for about 10sec. The time is not important.. it is the front LED rapid flashing that indicates you are in factory mode.
    Release reset.
If it doesn’t flash rapidly you have released reset at some point and try again.
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
TC/AE will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations.
No files are deleted on the hard disk.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.

  • Airport Time capsule not found on mac when using AirPort Utility

I just purchased an AirPort Time Capsule to back up my files from my Mac.  I have been able to set up the wireless portion, but when trying to access the backup portion through TimeMachine I cannot select my base.  I am able to see it on my iPhone, but not on Mac.  I have updated everything.  Is this a known problem with the transition to Yosemite?  Any suggestions?

Dead spot on.. Yosemite is pain plus..
I recommend you start over in your TC setup..
    Factory reset universal
Power off the TC.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the TC to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.
N.B. None of your files on the hard disk of the TC are deleted.. this simply clears out the router settings of the TC.
    Setup the TC again.
ie Start from a factory reset. No files are lost on the hard disk doing this.
Then redo the setup from the computer with Yosemite.
    1. Use very short names.. NOT APPLE RECOMMENDED names. No spaces and pure alphanumerics.
eg TCgen5 and TCwifi for basestation and wireless respectively.
Even better if the issue is more wireless use TC24ghz and TC5ghz with fixed channels as this also seems to help stop the nonsense. But this can be tried in the second round.
    2. Use all passwords that also comply but can be a bit longer. ie 8-20 characters mixed case and numbers.. no non-alphanumerics.
    3. Ensure the TC always takes the same IP address.. you will need to do this on the main router using dhcp reservation.. or a bit more complex setup using static IP in the TC. But this is important.. having IP drift all over the place when Yosemite cannot remember its own name for 5 min after a reboot makes for poor networking. If the TC is main router it will not be an issue.
    4. Check your share name on the computer is not changing.. make sure it also complies with the above.. short no spaces and pure alphanumeric.. but this change will mess up your TM backup.. so be prepared to do a new full backup. Sorry.. keep this one for second round if you want to avoid a new backup.
    5. Mount the TC disk in the computer manually.
In Finder, Go, Connect to server from the top menu,
Type in SMB://192.168.0.254 (or whatever the TC ip is which you have now made static. As a router by default it is 10.0.1.1 and I encourage people to stick with that unless you know what you are doing).
You can use name.. SMB://TCgen5.local where you replace TCgen5 with your TC name.. local is the default domain of the TC and doesn't change.
However names are not so easy as IP address.. nor as reliable. At least not in Yosemite they aren't. The domain can also be an issue if you are not plugged or wireless directly to the TC.
    6. Make sure IPv6 is set to link-local only in the computer. For example wireless open the network preferences, wireless and advanced / TCP/IP.. and fix the IPv6. to link-local only.
There is a lot more jiggery pokery you can try but the above is a good start.. if you find it still unreliable.. don't be surprised.
You might need to do some more work on the laptop itself. eg Reset the PRAM.. has helped some people. Clean install of the OS is also helpful if you upgrade installed.
    Tell us how you go.

  • Airport Time Capsule not found

    Hi,
I'm tying to setup Time Machine backup on a new Macbook Pro (well, the laptop is Mid 2010 but I got it new ;-) ).
I have an existing Airport Time Capsule which I already use for another Mac as a backup device which is working fine.
In Time Machine setup I can't select the Time Capsule volume, neither can I see it in the Airport Utility although I am actully connected over WLAN to this Airport TC.I can use Airport Utility just fine on my other Mac and also on iPad without problem.
MacBook is running 10.8.4, Airport Utility is 6.3.1 TC has newest firmware as well.
    Any hints?
    Regards
    Chris

Manually mount the hard disk of the TC.
In Finder, use the top menu.. Go, Connect to server.
AFP://TCname or TCIPaddress eg AFP://10.0.1.1 if the TC is at default.. you obviously substitute the actual name.. and that is network name.. not as it appears but as apple reads it.. much easier therefore to use names that already conform.. so short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
Reset TM and see if you can find the hard disk you now have mounted.

  • Time Capsule not found on New PC

I have had a time capsule for while now and I just got a new PC. This is my first PC in years. I am having trouble connecting to the internet. But more so, I am having trouble even connecting to the time capsule. Windows does not even find it.
I am using a wired connection. Not wireless. I just do not understand why it does not even show up with a wired connection.
    Please, can anyone help me!?
    Thank you

PC has to use SMB with the TC..
SMB has rules which Apple default configuration breaks.. one would hope NOT deliberately.
Change the TC name and wireless names, to short, no spaces, especially no apostrophe .. just pure alphanumeric.. ie mix of upper and lower case letters and numbers.
Set 5ghz to a different name to 2.4ghz.. this also helps things.
Now go to the disk / file sharing page.
Turn on the guest account.. give it read and write permissions.. at least to start with.
Put the workgroup name in correctly .. generally WORKGROUP
Now on windows download and install the airport utility for windows and bonjour.. it should be part of the package.
You might find as soon as bonjour is loaded the disk will be available and ask for username and password.. username just use admin.. it is not used on the Mac side.. for password use public which is the default.
If no disk shows up, go to windows explorer and type the address of the TC into the address bar.
    \\TCName.. or \\TCIPaddress

  • Time capsule not working with ppoe after latest airport update

I've just updated installed the latest airport update from apple and now my time capsule will not connect to the intenet vie PPoE via a BT Infinity FTTP modem.  The only thing that has changed is the software update.  Any ideas?

Tivo and Roku may really need upnp which is not provided by the apple router.
But to test this properly are you double NATting.. if you have an existing modem router did you bridge it before connecting the TC.
Tell us exactly what broadband you have, and what make and model is your modem?? Is it working as router??
If the TC is also working as router it should be fixed to work as bridge mode.
More info and we can get you going.

  • Time Capsule not responding in Airport Utility on setup after hard reset.

I have been trying to set up my Time Capsule after a hard reset.
I am seeing the Time Capsule in Airport utility with default settings, however when I choose continue to setup or manual setup it tells me I need to switch networks to continue and then gives me the following message.
BASE STATION ERROR: AirPort Utility was unable to find your Apple wireless device.
The Time Capsule continues to work as a hub for devices connected to it but I am unable to see the hard disk or use the wireless functions. Any ideas?

Thank you. The computer is connected directly to the time capsule through ethernet and giving me those messages. I have tried resetting a couple of times to no avail. I guess I am starting to wonder if I have a problem with the Time Capsule which is only a year and a half old. As I mentioned I have number of devices connected through the LAN ports and they are all working fine. It is only the functionality of wirless and the hard disk that appears to be compromised.

Rebooted MBP, unplugged and re-plugged the TC
I have been trying for 3 hours. nothing works.
MY MBP will cannot find the TC and the TC cannot find the MBP
    Please help.

Plugged able into MBP then into TC1 WAN port, green light shows, MBP will not find TC1.
is there a step I am missing?
Should the MBP auto locate the device?

  • Time Capsule not freeing up space after deleting

I started getting the Yellow light on my Time Capsule alerting me to Low Disc Space on it. I do use it for both backups AND storage of some other files. I went in and started deleting large files and/or transferring them back to my MacBook Pro. After getting about 40G of files off the Time Capsule it still shows only 7G available. Is there something else I am supposed to do to free up this space? Is there some kind of reformatting I am supposed to do? Thanks in advance for your help!

    Welcome to the discussions, Mbergwall!
Because it is a network drive, files on the Time Capsule are stored in a special container called a sparsebundle file. The odd thing about a sparsebundle is that it will grow as new data is added, but if data is deleted, the indicated size of the sparsebundle stays the same, even though you have deleted data.
As you add more new data, the size of the sparsebundle will remain the same until it needs to grow again. There are Terminal commands available if you need to "compact" the sparsebundle to show the actual size of the file. Be very careful with anything in the Terminal. It is a scary place that is best not visited.
Take a look at Pondini's excellent FAQ on Time Machine, #12, the pink box for more details and the "how to" if you want to try this.

  • Time capsule not connecting to internet after firmware 7.6.4 upgrade

    Hi,
I wonder if anyone can help me, I updated my 4th gen time capsule to the latest firmware yesterday and post the update my TC was telling me that there was no internet or DNS.
After tralling the internet (using my iPhone and 3G) I eventually did a hard rest of my TC, put all my PPoE details in, wireless network details in and still I got the same error messages on the TC.
Thinking that this could be a PPoE error I plugged an old router in, did the PPoE setting and the internet is working just fine, which leads me to beleive that this is purely a firmware issue on the TC post my upgrade to 7.6.4.
I then decided to downgrade to a previous firmware however this seems to be impossible on my TC using airport utility. I dont have the drop down menu in my airport utility aplication to do a dowgrade, infact these is no option button at all (so I cant hold it down as suggested in other posts).
I am currently running OSX 10.8.5 Mountain Lion), Airport Utility 6.3.1, TC 7.6.4.
If anyone can help me resolve this issue or tell me how to downgrade the software I would be extremly gratefull! Also note I am not a techie at all, just learnt what a PPoE was!!!
    Thank you.

Please do a factory reset.. it is more complete than hard reset.
The Factory Reset TC Gen1-4. Or AE Gen1-5
Unplug your TC/AE. Hold in reset. and power the TC/AE back on.. without releasing reset for about 10sec. When the status light flashes rapidly; release it.
In the airport utility.. plug it in by ethernet..
Make sure ipv6 is set to link-local in both wireless and ethernet on the computer.
Then simply hold down the option key whilst you click on version.. downgrade to 7.6.1  as the last two firmware are hopeless.
