Time capsule not recognized by airport extreme - first time setup challenge

Air port utility not recognizing time capsule. We have airport extreme and time capsule (recent purchase to back up 2 wireless mac laptops and the G5 which is connected to the modem). Modem is conected to airport extreme and I connected the Time capsule via ethernet as I thought the speed would be 1GB and faster than wireless "n." Somehow now the airport extreme does not recognize the time capsule. In the network utility, airport is not listed, only ethernet and firewire. What steps should I take to enable time capsule to back up the laptops wirelessly as well as the G5 (non-wireless.) Thanks!

I would hold the reset button on the back of the Time Capsule for 5-10 seconds and I would wait to connect it to the AirPort Extreme to see if you can set it up. If you can access the Time Capsule with AirPort Utility then I would plug it into the AirPort Extreme and continue your setup.

  • IPhone 4S not recognizing my Airport Extreme

My new iPhone 4S is not recognizing my Airport Extreme while my iPad2, Macbook, Mac desktop and Apple TV all are able to see and successfully utilize my network. My iPhone 4s is able to see other networks and successfully connect with them, but just not the network associated with my Airport Extreme.  Can anybody help me fix this problem?

Im having exactly the same problem.
Every laptop in the house and my ipad will conenct to my airport, but my iphone doesnt... in fact my iphone wont conenct even to another router in the house. Outside, on my work network, it works fine.
It displays the phones client number in the airport utility, but no data is transfered nor does it ever connect - just the scrolling circle continuously.
Reset the router, restored my iphone. I've done everything...
Anyone? Its doing my head in.

  • Time Machine Harddrive not recognized from Airport Extreme anymore

I've recently updated my Mac Book Pro (Mid 2010m 8GB) to OS X Mountain Lion. Already before I used an external Harddrive attached to Airport Extreme (Airport Utility 7.6.1) for Time Machine Backups. The Backups worked well, even after Migration to OS X Mountain Lion (10.8).
The Haddisk had always been visible from the finder and even an jailbreaked Apple TV. But this changed just yesterday with Finder and Airport Utility just not able to recognize the Harddisc anymore. I tried several things including:
    - unplug the Airport Extreme for 1 hour from AC
    - Reset/Restart Airport Extreme via Airport Utility App
    - Reset Airport Extreme to factory settings and starting over with configuring the network again
    - Turn off/on the respective Harddisk
Neither action was successful so far - while the drive can be accessed via direct USB connection still. The respective drive is Mac formatted (journaled) and - as already mentioned - had been working in this setup all the time (1 year at least).
Thank you very much for any hint/tip helping me to solve the problem!

    Hi Pondini,
I've seen this before - but TM used to work for me this way very well.
That's kinda the point -- sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
However with my question it is not about Time Machine - it is about why my Harddisc is not anymore recognized by my Airport Extreme base station. It had been working since more than one year now - and then all of a sudden Airport Extreme stopped to show me the drive.
Try repairing it, per #A5 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting.  Note that you have to repair both the disk and the sparse bundle the backups are in, separately.

  • Printer not recognized by Airport Extreme

I recently purchased an Airport Extreme that I'm trying to use to network a USB HP Printer (PSC 2410) and an external hard drive for access by a Macbook Air and a Windows laptop.  I had the printer working for a day with the Macbook and then it is no longer recognized from the Printers in the Macbook; the printer never got recognized by the Windows laptop via Bonjour but I'm mostly interested in trrying to at least make sure I can get this working with the Macbook.  The printer works fine if plugged directly via USB into the Macbook.  I have searched forums and tried the basics - made sure I had latest firmware, restarted the Airport Extreme and the printer multiple times, reset printers in the Macbook, etc. but no matter what I do I can no longer have the printer be recognized when connected to the Airport Extreme.  Also, I've noticed people talking about a printers tab in the Airport Utility, but I do not have a printers tab in the Airport Utility (version 6) on the Macbook.  Any ideas would be very much appreciated about how to get the printer recognized again in order to use it wirelessly.  Thanks!

  • HP Laserjet 1020 is not recognized by Airport Extreme(2nd gen)

Per instructions on the manual, I hooked up my HP Laserjet 1020 to the USB port on the Extreme, hoping to use it as a network printer for 4 computers.  It does not show up on the printer list and everything I have tried, including updating drivers and software, still does not work to have it show up.  I'm wondering if this is one of those HP printers that does not work with the extreme.
Is there someone out there that has any ideas how I can get it to work, I would really appreciate any advice.  Thanks.

I spoke too soon, sort of. While the information I got from the Sonos website is accurate, and did indeed help in getting things started, the external HD with the enclosure I bought still isn't working! I even went so far as to reformat the drive last night, even though it was already formatted correctly. Just tried a few minutes ago, and nothing...  The permissions look exactly as they do on the other disks so I'm not sure of what's up. At first, I thought that maybe Apple changed something about how the Airport Extreme sees externals, such as they must meet specific network based criteria... but then I tried a several year old iOmega portable Go drive, that I hooked up via micro USB and it worked immediately.
Now I'm wondering if there really might be something to what you said, about the enclosure. Is there a precedent for such an issue? Has anybody else here experienced this?  But the wacky thing is that this external with enclosure was working perfectly not too long ago. So what has changed? I moved, and set up a new network. That has changed. But aside from that? I tried earlier firmware versions, and that did nothing. So either an OS update or my enclosure is all of a sudden wonky... even though it works perfectly otherwise? VERY confusing.  BTW, the enclosure is a Rosewill.

  • Wired switch not recognized by Airport Extreme

I recently found that my wired Linksys 4 port switch quit sending data to my Airport Extreme. The lights that referenced the connections in the back were on steady (all the lights). I tried rebooting the APE and depowering the switch to no avail. I figured that since it was working before the switch must be bad. I bought an 8 port D-Link switch, and the same thing happened. So now I wonder, is it the Airport Extreme? The wireless works great but I can't get any wired connections to work. Any thoughts?
I have also run the airport admin util, switched the Wan and Lan cables and put new cable from switch to APE.

You don't say which model of the Extreme you have. I'm assuming it is the new 802.11n. If it is the new 802.11n you can't use Airport Admin Utility to configure or manage it. You have to use the new Airport Utility. Second there should be enough LAN ports on the AEBS to eliminate the switch.
I don't use a switch and never have but wouldn't you want to run internet source to Extreme's WAN port and then an ethernet cable to from one of the Extreme's LAN ports to the switch.

  • WiFi on touch not recognizing my airport extreme

okay well i know a lot about my network and such, researched it for a while to set it up, and i must say it runs very nicely with my two wireless enabled macs. it consists of an airport express for music streaming which is also used to extend the network created by my airport extreme N (fast ethernet version). i had problems with my ipods wifi for a wihle so when i redid my network i looked at a lot of things, i lowered the multicast rate to 2, i put it on channel 11, and of course it is set to b/g compatible. is there anything else i should know to help get this working properly?

  • Time capsule not recognized by airport utility?

I just connected my new TC to try to backup my macbook for the first time.  Installed the airport utility and conected the TC, but the amber light won't stop flashing even though I connected it directly to the macbook or to de the modem.
    How can I fix this?
    WMF

I did nothing seems to work.
I installed AU and when I try to update and it tells  me that  I alredy have the latest version.  I also have 10.5.8 OS.
Then I plug in the Ethernet cable to port (marked with the circle on top of ii) on the TC.  Then to my MacBook's ethernet port then I turn-on the AU and then my TC.  However, the TC never stops blinking amber.
    What else should I do?
    Thanks

  • How does one sync the new time capsule with the old airport extreme and airport express in order to extend range?

How does one sync the new time capsule with the old airport extreme and airport express in order to extend range?

    Thanks for the additional information.
Unfortunately, the AirPort Utility application in the Lion and Mountain Lion operating systems, which is used to configure the new Time Capsule does not support the older versions of the products that you have.
Even if it did, there are no settings on the older AirPorts to "Extend a wireless network", so they are not compatible with the new Time Capsule if you intend to extend the network only using wireless connections.
If you have the ability to connect each AirPort to the Time Capsule using a permanent wired Ethernet cable connection, it might be possible to use a complicated workaround to install an older version of AirPort Utility to configure the older AirPorts to work with the new Time Capsule.
If you have another Mac there that is using the Leopard or Snow Leoapard operating system, things would likely be simpler. I have not done this type of procedure to mix a new Time Capsule with older AirPorts, so I would not be able to say whether this would work or not.

  • Any tricks to swapping out my old time capsule with a new airport extreme I am also using airport expresses

Any tricks to swapping out my old time capsule with a new airport extreme I am also using airport expresses?  The hard drive on the TC quit working.

I do plan on using an external USB HDD for time machine backups.  I have both 802.11g and 802.11n used for playing music via stereos.
I would recommend against it. Apple does not support Time Machine backups to AirPort Disks (USB HDD attached to the AirPort Extreme). Although folks have done so, we get a number of them here asking for help with their corrupted backups. If your backups are critical to you, please use another means (like connecting the USB HDD directly to your Mac) to do so.

Is it possible to have Time Machine backUp computer HD AND external HD connected to Airport Extreme.
    Sorry, but no.
Time Machine will backup your Mac, but not the hard drive attached to the AirPort Extreme.
Time Machine will back up a hard drive only if it is attached directly to your Mac via USB or FireWire.

I want to replace a four year old Time Capsule for a new Airport Extreme, how difficult is it? The ADSL connection come from a Modern Router provide by the local Telephone company.

Reply back when you get the new device, but in short, you'll have to put your extreme in bridge mode and just connect the same wires as your current TC.

  • Windows XP PC not connecting to Airport Extreme

I am having trouble with my Windows PC recognizing my Airport Extreme. It was working great at one point because I could see the shared external HDD and my printer using Bonjour for Windows. Now it's like it doesn't exist. PC still connecting to the internet fine, but can't see the peripherals. I'm getting a 6753 error or something like that. Any suggestions?

I'm having the same issues and it's more frustrating because it used to work, then my PC crashed and now that I have it back it doesn't work. I'm getting the error. I got it back up and running twice but it's spotty, it keeps disconnecting and not working.

  • The airport utility does not find my Airport Extreme. I tried to reset the base, but I can`t make it. What can i do?

The airport utility does not find my Airport Extreme. I tried to reset the base, but I can`t make it. What can i do?

Please perform a Factory Default Reset exactly as follows:
Pull the power plug from the back of the AirPort Extreme (AEBS)
    Wait a minute
Hold in the reset button first and continue to hold it in for at least 7-8 more seconds while you simultaneously plug the power back in to the AEBS
Release the reset button after the 7-8 second hold period
Allow 30-45 seconds for the AEBS to restart
Temporarily, connect a spare Ethernet cable from your Mac to one of the LAN <-> ports on the AEBS
Open AirPort Utility to see if can now see the AEBS
