Time Capsule not showing up in finder

I have a new TB TC and I had a failure the first time trying to back up. I then noticed when I restarted the backup the ata speed was very slow over a 100baseT network connection. It finally finished and then did a bunch of backups during the day but the disk was not showing up in the finder. When I would manually start the backup the disk would show up in the finder window but as soon as it was done it would disappear. It did this for a while then I had a serious problem where time machine could not find the TC at all. I had to reboot the machine. It now seems to be ok after the reboot but I am wondering about the stability of the TC. Has anyone had similar problems or offer any fixes. Its connected to a brand new Imac

Did you try the reset button on the back?
To reset the Time Capsule password:
Use something pointed to press and hold the reset button for one (1) second.
Important: If you hold the reset button for more than one second, you may lose your network settings.

How can I get my Time Capsule to show up in finder?

An alternate, and simpler method for most users is to open any Finder window, then look for the Time Capsule icon under the Shared heading on the left side of the window.
When you click on the Time Capsule icon, a folder......named "Data", unless you have changed the name of the drive.....will appear to the right.
Double-click "Data" to mount the Time Capsule drive on the desktop, where you can now drag/drop or copy/paste data to the drive.
If the Time Capsule does not appear under the Shared heading when you open a Finder window......then you are likely using the Yosemite operating system on your Mac, and it will take some work to find it.
In that case, Niel's method might be the better way to go.

  • Time capsule not showing old backups

i bought the time capsule in the middle of october and set it up.  but when i got into the time machine to find the old backups it only shows the oldest back up as november 13th, and each day it moves to the next. ex tomorrow it will show the oldest as november 14th. and when i look at the time capsule i have only used 1.96 of the total 2 TB.  the "tick" marks on the side of the time machine dont always show the pink, which means it was backed up to the time capsule. it shows grey marks saying it was saved on the mac(as if i was not connected to the time capsule)

I'm using the Time Machine interface from the original icon in the dock.
I figured it out. Just a minute ago I went to Time Machine, it mounted the backup and showed it on my desktop but when the "space" view came I wasn't able to browse anything. It didn't show any dates. I exited Time Machine and immediately went back and now I was able to browse all the backups and all the backup dates were shown. I tried it later and again I couldn't browse my backups. This time I waited and finally they showed up and everything worked. It just seemed to take a long time for the backups to be browseable.

  • Time Capsule not showing as a shared resource in finder

I just finished running CAT5 cable throughout my house in order to help the speed on all of my attached devices. I have wired 2 Apple TV's, an iMac, my Vonage phone router and a Time Capsule.
All devices are working properly and the speed on my network has increased dramatically (no surprise).
I have a cable modem that connects to my Vonage phone router. The router has four wired ports, I have two of the ports on the Vonage router connected to my two Apple TV's, I have one port wired to my iMac and I used the fourth available port on the router going to my Time Capsule.
The time capsule has a green light and appears to be working properly except that it doesn't show up on my iMac as a "shared" device. I have two MacBook Pro's that are operating on the wireless network and are able to connect to the Time Capsule via airport. I have my iMac airport turned off as I want my iMac to work on the wired network since I use it to run a rather large iTunes library that is stored on the Time Capsule.
In this configuration I don't seem to be able to connect to my Time Capsule using the wired network, does anyone have a solution I might try?

Compare the IP addresses of your iMac and the MacBook Pros. I'll guess the reason you can't see the Time Capsule disk from the iMac is that those two sets of computers belong to different "subnets". Someone else may have better advice, but I suspect you'll have to configure the Time Capsule to "extend" or "join" the network that the Vonage router is creating.

  • Time Capsule Not showing in Disk Utility

Right, There are a few things for my case:
Disk Utility doesn't show anything related to the Time Capsule.
There is a .purgeable in the disk in an attempt to delete the whole back up due to speed issues (using TM to delete it)
I can't delete the .purgeable file with Finder or tmutil
It doesn't back up because of the partially deleted image (It doesn't give an error, it's been like that for many many hours, tho)
I have files in a folder in the time capsule which stop me from trying to completely erase the content of it.
I have already resetted the laptop, networl, and time capsule
    Anyone can help me, please?
I'm using Mavericks and Airport Utility 6.3.2

Disk Utility will not display a network drive. It will only display a drive that is connected directly to your Mac using USB, FireWire, or Thunderbolt.
If you want to erase the disk on the Time Capsule......
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the Time Capsule icon, then click Edit in the smaller window that appears
Click the Disk tab at the top of the next window
    Click Erase Disk
The Quick Erase option will only take a few minutes
Zero Out will replace everything on the drive with zeros, probably taking 4-6 hours
    Click Erase

  • Time Capsule not Showing in Airport Utility

I decided to re-set my Time Capsule this afternoon. The green light is on but it is not showing in the Airport Utility and Time Machine says there is no back up disc available.
    What can I do?

Temporarily, connect a spare Ethernet cable from your Mac to one of the LAN <-> ports on the Time Capsule.
Restart both your Mac and the Time Capsule and then open AirPort Utility to see if your Time Capsule has been found.
If the Time Capsule is still lost, disconnect the Ethernet cable and perform a Factory Default Reset on the Time Capsule as follows:
Pulll the power cord from the back of the Time Capsule
    Wait a few minutes
Hold in the reset button and keep holding it in while you plug the power cord back in to the Time Capsule
Keep holding the reset button an additional 8-10 seconds and then release the button
Allow 30-40 seconds for the Time Capsule to restart to a slow, blinking amber light
Connect the spare Ethernet cable from your computer to one of the LAN <-> ports and open AirPort Utility to reconfigure the device

  • Time capsule not showing in airport utility? recently moved house and new internet set up!

    Hi
I had a time capsule set up and working perfectly then we moved house, changed ISP and now time capsule light is flashing amber.  When I open the Airport Utility only the internet (i.e. a globe) shows, no time capsule.  My Macbook Pro has no ethernet port or I would have tried hardwiring!  I can enter the time machine but back up history is red.
I read that latest OS may require a rename of the capsule if the original name was long (29 characters including spaces at present) but to change it the support says to access it via the airport utiltiy which I can't do!
    Help anyone?!
    Sam

Simply factory reset the TC and start over.
Any time you move the network configuration the TC will require a new configuration.
    The Factory Reset universal
Unplug your TC/AE. Hold in reset. and power the TC/AE back on..  all without releasing reset and keep holding in for about 10sec. The time is not important.. it is the front LED rapid flashing that indicates you are in factory mode.
    Release reset.
If it doesn’t flash rapidly you have released reset at some point and try again.
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
TC/AE will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations.
No files are deleted on the hard disk.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.

  • Time Capsule not showing up in AirPort Utility

    Hi,
I'm having problems setting up my Apple time capsule, but have successfully managed to set up an Airport Express.
Im using a Virgin Media cable modem which is connected to a netgear wireless router. I've tried connecting the Time Capsule to the router (which is how i set up TC in my previous house)
The current set up is looking like this but Airport cannot find the TC
Cable Modem -> Ethernet -> Router -> Ethernet from Port1 on Router -> Port1 on TC
I have tried connecting it to the main connection ethernet port on the TC, Infact I've tried every cable configuration imaginable, but the TC still isnt getting recognised.
Has anyone else had this problem or got any suggestions as to how I can get this to work?
    Thanks in advance
    Matthew

First and formost, you're connecting an airport router to a router, you'll need to place your Airport in bridge mode when you set it up for better reliability. Reset the TC by holding the rest button on the back until the light on the front flashes rapidly. On your Mac, go to the Airport menu item in the upper right hand corner of the screen next to the time of day. Select the Apple Network from the drop down menu, it should then appear in the utility, rescan if it doesn't, if still not I can only guess you're running a older version of the utility, run software update.

  • Time capsule not showing up in HD sidebar

I have a Time Capsule, it is working but I can't seem to access it.  It used to be under Macintosh HD/devices but now it is not there.  What do I have to do to access it?  It is running through airport right now.  Do I need to reset it then start from scratch?

Thank you for that response.  I will check that out.  Being the impatient person that I am, I hit reset and now I can't even access it.  I have a solid yellow light and can't get it back. Would you have any ideas on how to fix it?  I guess a trip to the apple store will be on my list tomorrow.

  • New 1TB Time Capsule Not Showing Up

Just bought a Time Capsule, using it with a Comcast modem. When I open Airport Utilities it doesn't show up during scans for wireless devices.
I've plugged it in, then connected the ethernet cable to the WAN port, connected WAN first then plugged it in, plugged it in and reset it during power-on, reset after powered on.
It DID show up once: I reset it as a plugged it in but got the flashing amber light, so I powered it down and powered it back on, all the while with the ethernet cable connected. The green light came on, so I opened Airport Utilities. The TC showed up, but when I clicked setup it failed to connect. After that it wouldn't show up in scans anymore.
    Any ideas?

    Welcome to the discussions!
Suggest you do a factory default reset and reconfigure the device as follows:
    Power down the TC
Hold in the reset button and keep holding it in as you plug the power back in
Release the reset button after approximately 10 seconds
Connect the ethernet cable from your modem to the WAN port
Also, connect another ethernet cable directly from your computer to one of the LAN <-> ports on the TC. This should help AirPort Utility "see" the device.
Restart both the TC and your computer
Open AirPort Utility to see if you can configure it now.

  • Time capsule not showing on desktop

Title pretty much says it. I have Connected Servers checked in the Finder Preferences and other servers show up.

    Are you using Mavericks?
Have you reboot the TC or reboot the network.. things often work after a network refresh.
Do you run the TC with SMB names? If not please reset the TC and change all naming to conform.. If you did not know, Mavericks has changed to SMB networking by default.
SMB names should be short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric. Your computer name should also conform.
Manually mount the TC.. and force it to AFP.
In Finder, use Go/Connect to server.
    AFP://TCname.local
Where you replace TCname with its new short name. And use the domain, which is local by default. especially if your computer ls not directly linked to the TC and it may have a different domain.
I recommend to people now to ensure ipv6 is set correctly on all the network adapters on your computer.. for normal use it should be link-local.. and the TC itself is link-local.
Run the netstat scan in network utilities.
This will help you find the TC.
Then if you still have issues, open terminal and ping it.. ie ping TCname.local
The other alternative is to mount it by IP address. But that is only usable where the TC does not move IP, so is router or set statically.
AFP://10.0.1.1 (default TC IP address.. replace with your TC IPaddress)
Don't forget to store the password when requested in your keychain.
You might still need to occasionally reboot the TC.. that is just a standard bug in the Mac OS.. / TC or airport router combo.

  • Time Capsule Not Visible In Finder Or Airport Utility

I recently purchased last week a 15" mac book pro and a 2 tb time capsule. This is my first mac and first experience with time capsule.I am running Lion. Ever since initial setup and a few calls to apple care the time capsule does not show up in finder or airport utility at times, sometimes it just re appears for a short while then disappears again. Apple care has had me hook directly up via cable to the capsule to switch channels thinking I was getting interference and also had me reset the keychain. I am still having the same problem. Has anyone else experienced this problem, or does anyone have a suggestion to fix this problem? Thanks!

Is the time capsule the main router in the network? If not try and rearrange the network so it will be.
I am not sure that Lion is working very well with TC. There are too many issues popping up.

  • TC not showing up in Finder

    Hello,
I've had a 500G TC for a few months now. The wireless internet portion of it has worked great, but i have never been able to get the harddrive portion set up. It has never showed up in the Finder, so there is no way to even access it. It has been set-up numerous times through Airport Utility, but just won't ever show up in Finder.
All the reading I have done on here has been for the computer not recognizing it at all. Is my problem unique in that it partially works...?
    Thanks for the help.

Have you made sure Finder is set up to display the Time Capsule?
If you open Finder, and on the top menu hit Finder, Preferences, click on the "Sidebar" tab and make sure under the shared section you have "Connected servers" checked.
Also, under the General tab, you can check the box to show connected servers on the desktop if you want it next to your hard drives on the desktop.
    Just a thought,
    Nathan

  • Time capsule not connecting to network

I upgraded to Lion a month ago and I'm not sure if this is contributing to my issue with Time Capsule at the moment but basically my TC is not connecting to my network. The green light is on, and when I go into Airport Utiltity I can see my network is connected but it will just not show up in Finder. I keep getting the message that "There is a problem connecting to your server".
My internet connection is fine (TC is connected to a router); I've restarted both my Mac & TC to no avail. I've also installed the 5.6 Firmware update but that has not done anything either. Any advice appreciated.
    Cheers, P

After 4 hours of mucking about, this has magically resolved itself. I can't offer any insight I'm afraid but I am grateful! p
