Time Capsule PC Problem

Help-I have a time capsule which I use to create a wireless network for my home which is located on the second floor. I have trouble connecting a windows vista PC to my network-It doesn't "See" my network as an option in many cases. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Are you saying that it can "see" the Time Capsule and connect if it is close to it?

  • HP LaserJet CP1025 and Time Capsule printing problem

Hello. I'm experiencing a problem with network printing with using HP LaserJet CP1025 plugged through USB into a Time Capsule. The problem persists for a long time already. Every time I need to print, I need to reboot my Time Capsule because there is an error in the printing queue, Mac OS X shows a message about some "USB write error", Windows just shows an "error". The only solution to this was rebooting the Time Capsule as told on Apple Support, with unplugging it first, then rebooting the printer, then plugging the Time Capsule. Now even this way doesn't work. This problem is the same on three different computers running Mac OS X Lion, Mountain Lion and Windows 8, so it's not driver problem, however, Bonjour doesn't allow me to use drivers from the printer CD on Windows so I had to install "universal" drivers which allowed me to print. I update the firmware on the Time Capsule from time to time, so it won't help either.  It's extremely annoying to mess around with Time Capsule for half an hour each time I need to print, so I ask for assistance. Thanks to everyone who can help!

There is probably a whole bunch of different issues happening here.
Lion and ML have just as much problem with losing connection to the TC as the windows computer will.
I suggest you do a factory reset of the TC..
You then need to set it up as a straight SMB (windows networking) device.
All network names must be SMB compatible. Short, no spaces.. no apostrophe for sure. pure alphanumeric.
That includes TC name, wireless name/s, passwords of course. and even the hard disk name.
In the file sharing page I would also turn on the guest access and set the WORKGROUP. Although that is more for disk sharing they should also help print sharing.
The printer name, I am not sure.. but you want that as simple as possible as well and following the above rules.
I am not at all sure the latest firmware is the panacea to all ills.. in fact I tend to run any TC i have on 7.5.2 and find it works better. Especially the older ones.
If it still doesn't work, it is a case of buy a new network printer.. when this lot of toners finish.. buy a new printer instead .. make sure it is network capable. Far better than using usb printers and since printers are cheap cf the consumables.. well worth it.
Also make sure it is airprint capable and preferably postscript as well although I don't know if the combo is available.

  • Time Capsule Restarting Problem

I just bought a Time Capsule (4th Generation) about a week ago. Works great except it keeps restarting itself, or at least that what I think its doing. All of the ethernet lights on the back of the capsule will turn off, I will loose network connectivity for about ~30s. This is fairly frustrating when I am copying files. Does anyone know what is wrong?
    Thanks.

Basically this was happening many times over.
I looked up "Rotated CCMP group key", and found out the problem was to do with the frequency the time capsule was on being having too much interference from other devices. This is not really an issue at home, but when I was at a mates place with it I had it right next to his wireless router. Now I know to avoid this. I also enabled the 5GHz band as this is meant to have much less interference as well as changing my multi-cast rate to high, for less coverage but more speed. Basically once you pointed me towards the manual setup in the menu I was able to work things out.

  • New Time Capsule 2TB problem

    Hello,
I decided to get a Time Capsule (newest tower version). I ran the back up wirelessly and successfully, as to say that it went through the the initial backup overnight and completed it uninterrupted. The next morning, I entered time machine and saw the backup like normal. I then decided to test it out and deleted a few PDF files from my "documents" folder, emptied trash and then ran another backup. When running new back up, it was "backing up" an additional 1.8 GB, (I was surprised it would have that much to back up.)
Upon on completion of second backup, I decided to go back in TM to the initial backup to attemp to restore the deleted PDFs. When going back to the old "documents" folder that was initially backed up, the folder didn't have the deleted files, reflecting the "current" state of the folder, not the state from the initial backup done hours earlier.. Then when I tried to switch to another folder, like "movies" the TM started getting slow and unresponsive! unable to show the files. This is the 2nd Time Capsule I have tried and had the same problem with both. I feel like there is something wrong with what I am doing, however I have used TM on on a wired hard drive in the past with no problems. Any help in pointing out something I'm doing wrong or steps to ensure the go are set up correctly is appreciated.
the firmware is up to date as is the Macbook Software. Using a mid 2014 MBP retina with Yosemite.
    THanks!

tthanks Bob. That makes sense if I'm following you correctly. The wireless "backup" process, where TM says "preparing back up" then says something like "30.5 GB out of 200BG backed up" , then finally "back-up complete" took about 5-7 hrs wirelessly but then completely finished.
IF I'm understanding you right, it may take a few days after the "backup complete" message for the TC disk to be fully catalogued wirelessly before specific file details are ready to be utilized for normal TM operation?
    am I getting this right?
    THanks!!

  • Time Capsule connection problem

Hello, since three days ago i have been unable to make a backup because I have a connection problem to find the backup disk. The message that I get is: " Check the server name or IP address, and then try again. If you continue to have problems, contact your system administrator". It is weird because when i run the airport utility it shows a green ligth on my time capsule device and also the time capsule hardware has the green ligth. Furthermore I use the device as a router and my network is working fine (Internet, wireless printing HP-envy).
Any ideas on how to fix the issue?

Try just restarting the TC.. this is a Lion plus 7.6 firmware issue.. maybe the new 7.6.1 will help.
If that does not work reset the TC and redo its setup.

  • Time Capsule WDS Problem After Firmware (7.6.1) Update

Some time ago, when I first setup my Time Capsule, setting up WDS with it and my Express went really smoothly - really impressed how it went.
I applied an firmware update last night 7.6.1 to the TC and the AE. What a mistake. I've spent most of the morning trying to get WDS to work correctly. AE can't find TC with WDS, WDS error on TC when ever I change it's settings - it's flashing yellow now even though not 10 minutes ago everything was fine? It's a shame because each device has worked perfectly for over a year - when ever I installed them.
Can anyone shed any light on the WDS problem? Has anyone else experienced any problems since the update?
I've been reading about "Extending The Network" with wireless-N, supposed to be much easier, but not all my devices are N rated. Also I know for a fact that the first time I set this (WDS) up it was so easy - the "wizard" configured everything within 15 minutes. It's almost as if the option automatically setup WDS has been removed. Am I imagining things?

I tried to change some settings on the TC and the AE would no longer connect. It seems everytime I make changes to either the TC or the AE it cause (yellow flashing light) problems. Decided to fall back to firmware 7.6, I've successfully managed to update settings on the TC without there being any problems.
Don't want to waste any more time messing about with network, fingers crossed until the next firmware update.

  • Time Capsule Backup Problem (frist time)

    Hi,
    Background information,
I am using a 32 day old 2TB Time Capsule, The Computer I am using is a white Macbook early 2009 - 120 gb HD and i have USED 80 out of 120 -  , it is connected via wifi to a ADSL +2. The Time Capsule I am running is connected directly via the modern to the TC using a ethernet cable. I have the latest version if OS X Lion and the latest update and firmware of TC. I am backing up directly to the TC’s drive.
    The Problem,
A couple of days ago i started to do my first backup of my Macbook, I started at 8 am in the mourning in which it took till 10pm at night using wifi, i am un-bale to use ethernet cable... However this backup did not fully complete and at around 4pm that same day when I was trying to backup It said it had only "5 seconds left" until it started to increase the amount of data that the TC had to backup. It got to 10pm and fail the first backup with an error message, which I do no have, I think it is something to do with the disk being disconnected. So I tried again the next day, when it started the gage said it only had to backup initially 250mb, which i would assume this means it's completed it's first backup, as the day progressed it still was backing up, and was presenting the same issues as before, that is it said it "only had 5 seconds left", however once again it began showing that it had to backup more data, at the end of the day it had to back up 6.5 gb which it did but hadn't fully finished.
A quick side note: I have been able to successfully make a backup on a early 2010 iMac.

The first Time Machine backup of a Mac will always involve transferring a lot of data.  Over Wi-Fi that means it will take a long time.  I'm not sure why you say you're unable to use an Ethernet cable, but I recommend that you use one for that first backup.  Connect it just before you go to bed, turn off Wi-Fi to assure that it's really using the Ethernet connection, and start the backup.  It should be complete by the time you get up.  At that point you can disconnect the Ethernet cable, turn Wi-Fi back on, and do all future Time Machine backups over Wi-Fi.

  • Two macs, time capsule backup problem

I have a macbook pro and a macbook both running 10.5.2 and both using a time capsule for net. The macbook pro is using time machine on the time capsule, but trying to use the macbook results in an error message
"The backup disk image could not be created"
I was targeting the time capsule - it asked for the tc's login, the prepares and fails. I have rebooted the mac and tc and have also removed the time machine pref file. No luck..
    any ideas?

I am definitely having a problem running time machine at the same time on 2 macs with the Time Capsule. If i dont get an error "The Backup Disk Could Not Be Mounted" on the iMac, I'll have the TimeMachine clock thingy spin once and then not do anything on my MacBook. It seems that the Time Capsule cannot handle 2 macs running Time Machine backups simultaneously... which *****, because i'd like to be able to use it with all of my computers and not worry about whether the other machine is running a backup whenever TM on my laptop starts up every hour/day/week/etc...
I am also trying to use it as a media server and i eventually plan to get an appletv as it's friend as well... from reading some of these other threads, it seems that TC might be a bit racist against TV's.

  • Airport Time Capsule 2TB - Problem with Backups

    Hello everybody,
I´m from Germany but I hope you understand my english. I have got a problem with my new Airport Time Capsule 2TB. I want to use it as a data storage, where all my pictures and videos are accessible via WIFI.
Copying the datas was no problem but now I want to make a backup of all the datas. For this purpose i created a RAID 0 out of two 1TB external hard drives. I connected the bay with these two hard drives in it with the Time Capsules USB interface. The problem is that no drives were displayed in the airport-programm ... Also non of my other USB hard drives were found. Only the Time Capsule´s partition "data" got found...
In the time machine program I can´t see the Time Capsule, so I can´t do a backup on the normal way... Even the "hard drive - program" from OS X didn´t show the Time Capsule.
It looks like they don´t want to know anything about each other ...
So, how can I realize to do a backup of the datas saved on my Time Capsule?
Thank you for your answers and sorry if my english is bad in some cases.

    Ok.. can understand..
You have two problems.. maybe 3.
    1. Time Machine (TM) does not work on network drives which includes Time Capsule.. so you simply cannot backup your pictures from a TC to a backup location using TM. It only works on locally connected drives.. you can use an alternative software like Carbon Copy Cloner .. I did check superduper but in the past it was not able to backup network source drives. You will need to check if the situation has improved.
    2. The Time Capsule will not accept raid array disks.. it must be a standard hard disk on a USB drive that it has drivers for.. and that is far from every model out there. So not all plain single USB disk works.. almost no array disks work.
    3. Your iphoto library if that is what you mean by pictures should not be on a network drive.. apple says it is going to be corrupted.
YMMV.. it is dangerous and only a matter of time.. if the pictures and videos are raw from camera that is fine.. it is only the iphoto (or aperture) library that is at risk.

  • Airport Time Capsule Shutdown problem

My 3TB 2014 Airport Time Capsule shuts down by itself approx once a week :Green light out with no wi-fi signal.  Need to unplug and reconnect power to restart system.  System has plenty of air flow, fan works and capsule body is cool.
Want to find out what is the cause and solution to prevent this repetitive shutdown problem.
    Thanks
    Dunkin888

This shutdown problem does not seem to apply to the Airport Extreme which does not have the Harddrive,
    Yes, it does.
Re: My Airport Extreme intermittently shuts down completely.
Search here is now a hopeless failure but we do see the complaint fairly often.
And the same thing happens.. people return them and come back with the same problem.
There was some discussion as to the Airports being ultra sensitive to spikes.. or power dips.. so using it on a UPS was one recommendation..
I have found btw that the power supply design for universal, often works better in our part of the world on 240v than on 110v. If you happen to have an 110v to 240v transformer handy or cheaply available have a go running it on 240v. There are various methods used to handle 110v but voltage doubler on the primary circuit is one of the main ways it is done. That is a lot more susceptible to power spikes and dips than standard full wave rectifier.
In the end though.. power supply really should not shutdown.. AFAIK there is no soft off on them .. so for the power supply to shut down completely means it is in protection mode..
If you wanted to open and replace the supply with external 12v supply you probably can.. but so far nobody has trusted me with one.. and I think they are too issue prone to go buy one for myself to do experiments... although I am always keeping my eyes open for the dead ones.
    See the teardown in
    https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/AirPort+Time+Capsule+A1470+%28Mini%21%29+Teardow n/15067
Then look at the link to the airport extreme.. they are identical except for the drive.. ie Apple has same power supply in both.. since it is under so much less load in the airport extreme yet they still have the problem I suspect it is fundamental design flaw in the supply.

  • Motorola surfboard, Time capsule  network problem

I have inadvertently reset my network settings which were previously working fine. The set up was a motorola surfboard 5100 connected to a time capsule via ethernet. Networked to the TC were a couple of MacBooks, and a couple of imacs and a printer all connected via airport. Telstra Saturn refuse support for networks setting or Mac and Mac support direct me to Telstra all to no avail.
I can get one computer networked by:
    - manually inputting the TCP/IP settings provided by Telstra into one computers network settings (IP address 203.97.101.47, router: 203.97.101.1)
    - and with what I recall were the previous settings for the manually configured Time Capsule (IP address 10.0.0.1, Router 10.0.0.2
    - the other Macs IP network settings I have set as 10.0.03/4/5 etc respectively
This set up only allows the one computer with the Telstra supplied network setting to get connected but not the other Macs or printer. They all connect over airport but not to the internet.
I have tried powering down both the TC and modem as well as setting the TC to share a public IP, distributing a range of IPs and bridge mode.
    Ha

I'm having trouble picking out your new replies from your last two messages.
The main problem with manual settings (as opposed to DHCP) is that the "other" device that a manually-configured device is connected to may refuse to honor those settings. You can tell a computer or router that it should have a particular IP address, but if the device at the other side of the connection doesn't believe that, things won't work.
Let's back up and start over. First, every time you change what's connected to your modem, you'll need to reset the modem to convince it to connect the the new device. The manual mentions a reset button on the back panel and that it can take 5 to 30 minutes for a reset to take effect.
Power down the Time Capsule. Connect your Mac to the modem with an Ethernet cable. Turn off AirPort on your Mac. Open the Network panel of System Preferences and select the Ethernet connection item. (Add one if it doesn't already exist.) Set "Configure IPv4" to "Using DHCP". See if the status is "connected". Note the IP address. Once everything is working the WAN IP address of the Time Capsule should be similar. Verify that you can access the Internet.
Now unplug the Mac and reset the modem. Apply power to the Time Capsule. Connect an Ethernet cable between your Mac and a LAN port of the Time Capsule. Launch AirPort Utility and put the Time Capsule into "manual setup" mode. In AirPort Utility's Internet panel, Internet Connection tab, set "Connect Using" to "Ethernet". In the Internet panel, TCP/IP tab, set "Configure IPv4" to "Using DHCP". In the Internet Connection tab set "Connection Sharing" to "Share a public IP address". Update the Time Capsule. Now connect another Ethernet cable from the modem to the WAN port of the Time Capsule. In AirPort Utility check the AirPort panel, Summary tab to see if the IP address is similar to what you saw on your Mac earlier. If that's what you see, try to access the Internet from your Mac. If that works, you're just about done.

  • Time Capsule & Slingbox Problem

I just hooked up my Time Capsule today. Network is working; however, one application, my Slingbox is not working. For those who don't know, Slingbox allows you to watch your home TV/DVR, etc. from anywhere in the world.
My Slingbox is directly tied in to a NetGear machine on the other side of the house in order to talk to my Network. Worked great on my Linksys, but it doesn't appear the NetGear is talking to my Time Capsule causing viewing problems for my Slingbox.
    1) How can I tell/see what is on my network?
    2) Is there something I must do to allow the NetGear to be seen & accepted on to the new network?
    Thanks...

It is not an effect I can recall seeing.. but I don't run extended wireless except for the occasional test.
I would recommend you load 5.6 utility on computer.. easier on Lion but can be done with Mountain Lion.. one such method below.. so you can view the log.. this might help you see what is happening.. in v6 of the utility as used in Lion and ML.. there is no access to the log.. why Apple why do you do this??
How to load 5.6 into ML.
    1. Download 5.6 for Lion.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Click to open the dmg but do not attempt to install the pkg.. it won't work anyway.
    2. Download and install unpkg.
    http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
You might need to allow other downloads to work, as security is tighter in ML.. go to preferences and security and set it to allow. Or control click the icon for unpkg and it will request permission to open it.
Run unpkg on the desktop.. it is very simple.. drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. drill down.. applications utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.
You cannot uninstall 6.1 so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. so just ignore the toyland version.. the plastic hammer.. and start using 5.6.. a real tool.
For screen shots see this post.

  • Time Capsule DNS problem - Complete wipe?

    Hi!
I am having a strange DNS problem with my time capsule (4th gen).
With one particular site it doesn't load the start page but random pages of the same domain with always the same pictures.
    Setup is following:
Cisco EPC3208 cable modem connected to the time capsule via cable
    Troubleshooting so far:
MacBook connected directly to the modem loads the start page of the website -> So it must be a problem with the time capsule
MacBook connected to time capsule via wireless loads the wrong page
MacBook connected to time capsule via cable loads the wrong page
iPhone connected to time capsule loads the wrong page
Rebooting the time capsule did not solve the problem
Uploading the latest firmware again did not solve the problem
Doing a hard reset and importing the previous settings did not solve the problem
Doing a factory reset and setting up time capsule as new device did not solve the problem
Changing the DNS servers from the providers to Google's DNS or to OpenDNS had no change
My thought is that there might be something stuck in the DNS cache of the time capsule. I am quite sure that completely wiping the settings should resolve it. Unfortunately the hard reset did not help nor the factory reset.
Any help is appreciated! I really need that page to my daily work!

We have been hitting this a bit.. I was only in the last couple of days posting in another thread.. do a traceroute from your computer to the site. Do it with TC and without TC.. if it routes wrongly or cannot find the site via the TC, something is wrong.. but I am lost as to what. It isn't dns.. it isn't dns cache.. you can simply use dns on your computer and that would totally bypass the TC. The routing is messed up.. that looks like a different issue. MTU??
Something weird.. but if you cannot find a work around.. the answer is obvious.. replace the TC as the main router.. you can bridge it and use it for backups and wireless. But there is some serious issues going on and the TC frankly is doing poorly.
A decent router is available for $100 or so.. my favourite right now.. Netgear WNDR3800 because it runs decent linux third party firmware like openwrt and gargoyle. These stand head and shoulders above the average firmware in a common garden routers.

  • Is Time Machine or Time Capsule the problem?

I have spent more time troubleshooting Time Machine than any other part of my iMac (and I have switched from PC, so it is kinda frustrating). I wonder if anyone relates to this:
    1. From the beginning, Time Capsule backs up incredibly slowly (about 1MB per hour), then falters halfway and gives up.
    2. After serious troubleshooting I return the hardware (ie the Time Capsule itself) to the Apple Store in London - they give me a new one.
    3. IT WORKS PERFECTLY Which suggests to me, given what I've seen on these posts, that there may be a hardware problem on a batch of Time Capsules which no amount of troubleshooting will sort.
But, 4. After three months of perfect working it gives me an error message: "Time Machine Error. Unable to complete backup. An error occured while copying files to the backup volume." This I now get every single backup. I try the most popular fix (trashing the last, "hollow" backup file from the volume) but that doesn't work. Nor does the classic switch on/off, restart, etc. I simply refuse to reformat the hard drive, because I would lose all my backups.
    5. So now I go about life with Time Machine switched off and hope I never need it. That seems to me to be the best fix but if there's any other I'd love to hear.

Based on my experience with TM drives connected directly to a computer, TC, and drives connected to a base station, the issue isn't TM alone. It is when you add networking to the equation when trouble starts. I gave up entirely on using an air drive with TM and now use ChronoSync to back up my data via WiFi daily and connect the drive directly to my notebook once a month to use SuperDuper! My wife is using a TC at work and has experienced the same problems you talk about. At this time she is persevering but she's excluded all directories but her home directory and like me now backs up to a dedicated drive monthly. She's had to format the TC twice but since limiting the backup to a small subset and making sure she doesn't interrupt an update she's not reported any problems.
I wish I had some answers for you and I hope Apple has some answers in 10.6 if not sooner.

  • Time capsule Wireless Problems

    Hi
I have a 1TB Time Capsule that was bought in Novemeber 2010. I set it up fine using a Netgear modem to provide the internet connection and the Time Capsule providing the wireless. I have 2 x MacBook Pro's and an iMac connected to it, with a couple of iPhones too from time to time. It has been working good as gold until 2 days ago. Both MacBooks and both iPhones wouldn't connect to the wireless network. Every time I tried, i would be asked for the WPA2 network key and when entered correctly it would come back with 'invalid password'. I took a laptop nearer to the Time Capsule and it connected fine with no password request. The iPhones however would connect then a second later disconnect then reconnect and so on but never hold onto the signal.
I did some digging and there was a suggestion to change the SSID which I did but even with a new SSID and the computer in the same room as the Time Capsule I still get 'invalid password' when I try to log on to the wireless network. The ethernet cable side of the TC works fine and there is a green light on the front of the TC.
I am stumped. Anyone got any ideas?

Welcome to the discussion area, Tonkadriver!
It sounds like someone near you has set up a new wireless network or wireless security system, or even added cordless phones that are likely interfering with your wireless network. Unfortunately, this is a common problem that many users experience as the growth of wireless far exceeds the number of available channels to handle the wireless signals.
A better piece of advice would probably have been to change the wireless channel on your router to see if you can find a channel with less interference. Changing the SSID would have done nothing to help if your wireless was still on an overcrowded channel or one that was picking up interference from other nearby sources.
Open AirPort Utility - click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab below the row of icons
Experiment with different settings for the Wireless Channel to see if you can find some clear airspace...or you run out of channels.

We have a problem connecting to a time capsule, we are connecting via ethernet, we can connect if we disconnect power and restart, we can connect for around 2 minutes then the connection is dropped every single time.
With an error code of -6753, now if apple have taken the time to create an error code, then surely somebody at apple can tell us what this error code means..?.
Anyone else having similar problems and anyone know of a fix.
We have effectively have 1TB of useless desk decoration in our office..!!
We have tried two hardware resets, removed harddrive and did a full diagnostic test, upgraded and downgraded the firmware to check that it wasnt that.
Disabled automativ time updates, disabled wireless, disabled DHCP, manually set an ip address, and not using IPV6....!!!!
still does the same thing, comes to life with initial power up, then two minutes later just refuses to connect, this is with both airport software and network file access..!!
