Time capsule POS! stopped working after a month and no ability back up data for 71 days now. Apple never returned my calls!

Does anyone have a better suggstion than waiting for apple to return my call? 71 days with no back ups and my new 2T unit stopped woprking after a month and living in the Turks & Caicos Islands there is no locoal support (I bought the unit from APple in Miami) According to the diagnostic tests I ran the unit is shot and needs replacing.. Wireless works fine though.. Seems to be a common problem with this unit. Would ahve been better off with my old airport extreme, I ahve had for five eyars, but it no longer hs enough capacity.

  • Two Time capsules that  stopped working after 12 months

2 years ago I bought 2 time capsules(2 TB). I used the first for 12 months and was very happy until it just stopped working suddenly. I couldn't turn it on at all. I then started using the second Time Capsule that had never been taken out of the box. Now 12 months later exactly the same thing has occurred to this second Time Capsule.
Any tips to stop this happening again would be gratefully received.

  • My Time Capsule has stopped working after I tried to configure an extended wifi network

My Time Capsule was working fine until I tried to configure it with an extended bridge. Now either the amber light is solid or the solid amber comes on for awhile and then goes completely out.
The AirPort Utility says that there is no internet connection, the DNS settings are wrong, and that the disk need to be repaired. Using Disk Utility, the Time Capsule does not even show up so that I can repair it.
I am running OSX 10.7.5, and besides the Time Capsule I have a Vonage Motorola (VT2442-VD) for VOIP, which of course is not working because it was connected behind the Time Capsule.
I'm in Italy and cannot call Apple directly since I now do not have phone service.
Any suggestions how I can check/repair the Time Capsule, and then configure it properly to my satellite broadband?
    Thanks for you help.

How old is the TC?? The LED should never go solid amber.. that indicates disk failure.
Or completely out.. that indicates power supply failure.
As a note you cannot extend wireless to a non apple wireless router... you can only plug in by ethernet and use the TC to create a wireless network.. this can have the same name as the main router,, same SSID in other words and same security but set to different channel..

My lock button just stopped working on my iPhone 4. I was wondering if there was any other way to take screenshots? Please help!!

    Hi jess,
If your phone is only 4 months old, you should take it back to your Apple Store and have it replaced.
    Cheers,

  • I have an external hard drive from my time capsule that stopped working on me. I am attempting to access the data with a hard drive reader on my MAC. I am able to see the drive in disk utility and under system info USB. But I am unable to access the data.

I have an external hard drive from my time capsule that stopped working on me. I am attempting to access the data with a hard drive reader on my MAC. I am able to see the drive in disk utility and under system info USB. But I am unable to access the data and it does not show on the desktop when connected.

Ok if disk utility was able to verify the drive I doubt there is any problem.. are you trying to open a TM backup??
You need to mount the sparsebundle then check the actual info inside the bundle.
Don't use disk warrior.. if the disk has verified then unless you deliberately deleted files there is nothing that is going to do.
Pondini has a lot of stuff about getting access to the sparsebundle.
    http://pondini.org/TM/17.html
But if you have copied info to the TC that is now gone.. and the disk is ok.. I am not sure.. the TC will not have deleted the files itself.

  • HT2284 My Time Capsule just stopped working.

Thank you in advance for any help. My Time Capsule just stopped working and I do not get the 'Connection Failed' error message as the Time Capsule is not showing up in the finder window. The light continues to flash amber on the Time Capsule. I am using it with my iMac running Lion. Any help will be really appreciated.

This is just typical Lion.. reboot the TC.. if that doesn't work.. reboot the whole network from fully off.. in order.. modem.. router/TC.. clients. 2min gap between each.
If still has issues.. press reset on the TC and redo it.
Download a utility that has tool properties..
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Just ignore the toyland version in Lion.
Next time it happens go to disk page in the utility and hit disconnect all users..
C12 and C17 can suggest some other things.

  • My time capsule has stopped working.

My time capsule has stopped working. I get following error message The backup disk image “/Volumes/Michael Campbell's Time Cap/iMac.sparsebundle” could not be accessed (error -1). I tried everything including deleting all the data and starting again. It then works for a few back ups and then gives the error message. I have tried to repair the disk but that is grayed out.

Found this elsewhere so I will try it
    Go to App folder
    Open Utilities
    Click on AirPort Utility
    Highlight your Time Capsule
    Go to Manual Setup
    Click on Disks
    Highlight your Time Capsule
    Click on Disconnect All Users
    Close AirPort Utility
    Go to Systems Preferences
    Click on Time Machine
    Click on Select Disk
Find your Time Capsule and highlight it
Then click on USE BACKUP DISK.
Go to the Menu Bar and click on the Time Machine Icon
    Click on Backup Now
    It should work

  • Time Capsule no longer works after unplugged and plugged back in

See if you can follow this.
When i first got the time capsule about 2 months ago i had problems right off the bat. I changed the WEP to a WPA, plugged the time capsule into the router instead of going wirelessly and used it to extend the network. After several time of reseting the capsule, changing settings and passwords, and waiting several minutes for the airport utility to say it could not connect i finally got it to work.
Now, the other day i went to move my desktop to another outlet, so everything was unplugged via the surge protector, for about 5 minutes then plugged back in. Now the capsule no longer works. I was getting the same messages as two months ago, as if everything was reset in turning it off for a minute. I went through the same processes as last time to get it to work, but not this time. After waiting at the airport page for a few minutes it says that internet connection is the issue. Now the capsule is about 1 foot away from the router and plugged in, and i have internet connection to the desktop and my macbook pro.
Does anyone have any ideas, omitting the stupid suggestions web pages tend to give, such as is it plugged in? is it turned on?
    Help is GREATLY appreciated.

"plugged the time capsule into the router' try bridge mode and also configure its wireless setting

  • My time capsule has stopped working since installing Yosemite. It says to wait to tell me how much longer but it stays that way for hours.

My time machine has stopped working since I upgraded to Yosemite. It gets to the point that says it will estimate the time remaining, but it never gives me that answer and it just stays on that page and never completes it's backup. This is a brand new macpro, so I wanted to capture the previous info on my computer I was able to put my external hard drive on new computer and it did the migration and all my old info returned. However, two days later I wanted to do a backup using Time Machine with my Western Digital Mac external hard drive but it won't progress past saying how much time remaining, even after several hours of sitting there.

You do need to wait a long time.. as it takes a long while for Yosemite to index the existing backup if it is large.
Here is Apple's List of bad things that happen to TM in Yosemite.
OS X Yosemite: Time Machine problems
It is clearly no where near as comprehensive as it needs to be.
I presume your disk has your old backup.. it may be better to keep the old backup.. save that for the future.. and get a new disk and start a fresh clean backup.
I would also recommend using Carbon Copy Cloner or similar for the time being. Make a bootable clone backup of your drive to a new external drive.. it is really superior in lots of ways to Time Machine. And does show you what it is doing.
For TM at least you can still use the widget so you have some log access to that TM does.
    A1 here. http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html

  • My Time Capsule Wireless stopped working.

    Hi
so i have the new generation time capsule. I set it up and it was working fine.
then a couple of days ago...we had a power issue, with low level power. I switched off the unit during this period. Now that the power is back, the capsule wireless doesnt work. When i connect to the ethernet, it works fine. But when i disconnect, the wireless cannot even see the base station.
what is wrong and how can i fix the wireless?
    kindly help
    thanks
    Joshua

With the Time Capsule powered on, hold in the reset button on the back of the Time Capsule for 10 seconds and then release. Allow a full minute for the Time Capsule to restart to a slow, blinking amber light.
Now reconfigure the Time Capsule again, just like you did before. You can use the same device name, wireless network name, password, etc that you used before if you wish.
Once the Time Capsule restarts, check to see if you can receive a wireless signal from the Time Capsule.
If you still cannot see a wireless signal, the recent power outage has unfortunately damaged the Time Capsule, and it will need to be replaced.
It is always a good idea to connect your modem, Time Capsule,, and other devices to a surge protected power strip to help reduce the chances of a component failure in the future.

  • Time capsule deleted old image after factory reset and setting up a new user

Something strange happened and I can't seem to find anyone else having this question. A friend lent me her macbook air for some time so I backed up her current system to my Time Capsule and "restored" a fresh copy of mavericks in my name, (I deleted everything on the computer). Her backup was safe (I thought) on the time capsule, I checked and it was there.
After I was done transferring some files I needed and setting up this new macbook in my name I was going to set it up to the time capsule as well.
It said that the identity of the backup disk had changed and then after making my new copy of my setup hers disappeared. How come the TC erased it? I suppose I can go Data Rescue 3 on the TC, opening it up, people has said that should work reading on the forum, my question is there another way? Why did it erase the other Macbook air copy? It did not have the same name or anything. It would be so frustrating to have to open it up and recover the data. Has this happened to anyone else?
The TC is 3 gen A1355, 1 TB, I updated the time capsule's firmware to 7.6.1 and I use MacBook Air mid 2011 with OSX 10.9.5 Mavericks,

It cannot have deleted it from what you have told us.. the only way to erase the disk is to click erase in the airport utility or deliberately select and delete the file in finder..
BUT if you use mavericks I suspect you may be seeing how well its networking really functions.. ie hardly at all.
Please use the Pondini method to open the old sparsebundle.. or do it manually.
Start with Q17 and follow the links. http://pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html
You should also see the used space in the TC is a fair bit more than what is used by the MBA and it should show 3 sparsebundles.. your old OS.. the owners version of the OS, and your current version of the OS.. although Mavericks has a nasty habit of messing up the previous ones.
Too late for now.. but you did it the wrong way.. next time use a disk image.. Disk utility can make a full image of the drive.. but it is easier to use bootable clones from Carbon Copy Cloner or Superduper etc. TM is hopeless for restoring a whole install.

  • Time Capsule wifi stopped working but drive access is ok and 2nd bridged time capsule is working

After six months of successful setup, the wifi on my new 3TB Time Capsule stopped working. At first I would just power everything down and then power it up and it would come back but it had to be reset multiple times per day. Now it is not working at all. I find this very weird because even though the wifi is not working and I can't access the internet, I still have access to the hard drive through finder on my MAC and through the Network on a PC. Also the 2nd (much older) time capsule I have in bridged mode is working just fine for both the drive and the wifi.

I think you should take the TC back to apple for testing.
It does make it confusing if you have multiple wireless AP's .. you should turn off everything but the TC that is giving you problems.. then when the wifi drops out, test with ipad or iphone for instance.. if it is gone .. then take the TC to apple for replacement.

  • HT4628 my time capsule has stopped working - have a green light but get an error message saying "there was a problem connecting to the server..."

I noticed this week an exclamation mark on the time machine icon on the menu bar.
My Macbook, iPad and iPhone all connect to the network but i get "there was a problem connecting to the server..."
When I open the preferences the time capsule is off but turnign it back on sends me in a loop of selecting the Time Capsule device (which has a nice green light etc) and then getting the error messgae about being unable to connect. I've pulled the plug a couple of times (this has worked in the past) but no change.
Any advice would be welcome before I try a factory reset or have to return to Apple for repair (the one thing they are offering as the thing is only 5 months old)

I also noticed that when I go to finder I see two MacBook Air's that are in my name but have the number (2) and (3) next to the name.
That is a well known bug in Yosemite.
Try open System Preferences (gear icon on the dock)
    Open Sharing
Edit back to the correct name for your Mac
This may...or may not help.  But, it won't hurt.
The Mac's name may stay stable....or you may see (2), (3), etc again soon.
Be sure to restart both your Mac and the Time Capsule after you do this.

  • My Time Capsule has stopped working.  Restoring default settings does not work.

I have a 2TB Time Capsule (Model No. A1409).  I think that it is approximately 20 months old.  It has been working very well until around two months ago, when it began to display the flashing amber light.  At that time I performed a hard reset, restoring the default settings.  This worked and the capsule continued backing up perfectly for a further three weeks.  However, about three weeks back the flashing amber light returned.  As I have been busy elsewhere I was not able to attend to this untl recently.  It does not seem to matter how many times I reset the device, I cannot return it to a working state.
The capsule has previously been set up to connect to the internet through my existing broadband service.  As such, it was initially set up and subsequently restored wirelessly.  I no longer seem to be able to achieve this.  Has anybody else experienced similar difficulties and if so, were you able to remedy it.
Grateful for any advice.  I feel another trip to the Genius Bar coming on.

    Yeah absolutely - no problem.
I had the same thing happen where I did a restore on my personal TimeCapsule (TC),
and when I updated the device after installing it, it for some reason set the TC into bridged mode shutting off DHCP/NAT service.
Which means, that it doesn't reserve an IP for any client trying to attach. This is what it sounds like yours is doing.
So if you see that it says bridged, and that box with dhcp reservation is greyed out, change it from bridged to DHCP/NAT.
This will allow any client (computer/device) to attach and reserve an IP address for access to the internet.
Once that is set, and you update, hopefully the light should go green.
I would also recommend checking the "internet" tab, and making sure that your IP address is assigned using DHCP. (It probably is - but that part is essential for communication with your Internet Service Provider (ISP)...
SO - if the device goes green after the update:
If it does, then go back into the router and click on the wireless tab and confirm your wireless settings are correct, if any changes are made, update.
At that point, you should be able unplug your laptop to wirelessly connect to the router.

  • My Time Capsule / WiFi stop working.

My Time capsule stop working and I looked for the support page on Apple's website and to be sure about the model of my Time Capsule I wrote down the serial number of it on the technical support page to make sure that my TC is the 1st generation and as many of you have said already, I'm very lucky to have it working for so long despite the issues of the equipment but I also could read on the Apple's website tech page that " The AppleCare Protection Plan for your computer covers Time Capsule." . Is it true ? Because I do have the Apple Care for my iMac.

Where can I buy and have the specifications of the parts to replace the dead ones ? I saw a guy who change the power supply to an external MagSafe of MacBooks ... lol
    Thanks.
Ebay HK will ship anywhere in the world. That is still the best way at the moment. Unless you want to start changing capacitors.. if you have not done soldering of fairly fine boards.. don't!! Get a solution made up.
Or contact a repairer in your country or nearby.
The cost of repairs starts to go too high to be economic though.
You need a set of capacitors if you want to diy. There are plenty of sellers on ebay. You must get the exact right type. Size and performance are vital.
I gave a whole bunch of methods to fix the TC.. including Magsafe power supplies on my website. The easiest though is a 12v to 5v module and 12v supply.
    See https://sites.google.com/site/lapastenague/a-deconstruction-of-routers-and-modem s/apple-time-capsule-repair
And there is a list of repairers.
    https://sites.google.com/site/lapastenague/a-deconstruction-of-routers-and-modem s/apple-time-capsule-repairers
If you want the very cheapest method to at least get the TC running as an airport extreme.. you only need a 5v 2A power supply.. but that is real 2A.. not peak.. continuous, so it is usually better to find 3A. You can then cut off the existing supply board plug and just wire it to the supply. Put the hard disk in a usb holder and connect via usb or buy an esata box and run the cable out..
    Good luck with it.
