Time capsule, PS3 in NAT type 3

Hi Everyone,
I understand this has been asked many times on many forums, so my apologies here.
I have a BT Home Hub 2.0 (wireless disabled) as my modem, hooked up to my time capsule which is acting as the router (WIFI). I have my PS3 connected wirelessly to the network configured with my Time Capsule.
Playing GT5, i cant seem to get my PS3 off NAT type 3.
Can anybody please advise me on how to solve this??
Many thanks!

I have a BT Home Hub 2.0 (wireless disabled)
Even through you disabled the wireless function, the Home Hub is very likely still providing NAT services for the entire network.
my time capsule which is acting as the router (WIFI
If you have the Time Capsule configured as a router...as you say....then it is also providing NAT services.
You may have an error known as Double NAT on your network. To check and see if that might be the case....
Open AirPort Utility - Click Manual Setup
Click directly on the word Status (2nd line on the summary page)

  • PS3 - Changing NAT Type

    Hi all,
I have a PS3 and it's not allowing me to connect to certain people or even use the communication feature on it. So currently I have Frontier internet with a Gigaset modem, a WRT160Nv3 Linksys router. Currently my NAT type is 3 and I hope to change it to 1 if possible, 2 would be okay as well.
    Thanks for your time.

Well here is my Internet IP Address: 192.168.254.1
I'm not sure what to do with that.
Also after looking at the site you gave me, I'm still confused at what to do. This is an e-mail that I got from Sony.
Thank you for contacting Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) about changing your NAT type. Below are the TCP and UDP (firewall) port numbers you will need to connect online with PlayStation® products.
    IMPORTANT:
Make sure to enable these TCP/UDP ports in BOTH directions and are entered into the TCP and UDP port fields in your router / modem. Contact your Internet Service Provider or router manufacturer for proper instructions on how to input port information for your network.
    SCEA Game Servers
All games published by SCEA (first-party) may use the following ports for communication with SCEA (first-party) game servers:
    TCP Ports: 80, 443, 5223, and 10070 - 10080
    UDP Ports: 3478, 3479, 3658, and 10070
    PlayStation®Network
    TCP Ports: 80, 443, 5223
    UDP Ports: 3478, 3479, 3658
Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.
    Regards,
    Jason F.
And I don't know what to do with those ports or where to enter them.

  • Time Capsule + PS3 + Medialink

I have PS3 connected via ethernet to TC.
I have Medialink running on Macbook.
Medialink does not show PS3 in "devices"
PS3 does not detect uPNP or media server.
Anybody have a fix that will allow me to run media server when using Time Capsule as my router?

No but I can tell you how to load 5.6 onto lion or mountain lion.. thus avoiding trying to use a toy to do a adult job.
DMZ means De-Militarized Zone.. like between North and South Korea.. on in router terminology it means an unprotected area.. visible from two hostile sides.. WAN and LAN but not belonging to either.
In apple terms it is Default Host.. but I kind of doubt that fills you with deep understanding.
It means any incoming connection not linked to outgoing is not just dumped as it would normally be by NAT router.. but is directed to the device that occupies the DMZ.. so it has no blocked ports. All are open and laid bare. You also do not want an unprotected computer sitting there.. but a PS3 will be fine.. nobody can mess with it remotely to any great extent. It offers nothing for mindless moronic lost souls who spend their time accessing unprotected computers.. or crims who try to get your bank details etc.
If you run Lion.. just download real tool..
You can install 5.6 utility in ML by the following trick.
Download the 5.6 utility. This can be installed directly in Lion.. or locate it in your downloads.. if you tried before.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Open the dmg so you can see the pkg. Do not start it.
Download unpkg. and install and run it.
    http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
Drag the airport uitlity pkg over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory on the desktop.. AirPortUtility56 .. drill down to application, utilities.. and there.. lo and behold.. is the real tool utility.. start it from there or drag it to your main utilities directory.. ignore the toy version.. you cannot uninstall it but you need never run it.. again.. ever.. don't run both at once.

  • Best for ADSL modem or Time Capsule to do NAT?

I'm hoping to pick up a Time Capsule in the very near future (like tonight if they have the new ones in) and wanted to ask a general question about set-up.
I have a ADSL router/modem which will be connected to the Time Capsule. Is there a general rule as to whether it best to let the Time Capsule or the ADSL modem/router do the NAT etc.? My hunch is that for maximum chance of everything working nicely, such as "Back to my Mac", it would be best to use the modem to do as little as possible and get the Time Capsule to do as much as possible (NAT, firewall etc.).
    Any comments?

Start with this and do some exploring if you are interested. http://www.dlink.com.au/
You'll need to find the model number of your modem and there may be another number that's usually on a label on the bottom of the product that you may need as well.
Look for the instructions to reset the modem back to factory defaults. There will be a default user name like "admin" and a default password which you can change when you get into the setup of the modem.
This link may help as well. http://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/?tag=DSLmodemS1008
10.1.1.1 is indeed one of the addresses for D-Link, but there are others like a 192.168.xxx.xxx type of number. To set up the modem, you will hook it up directly to your computer.

  • Xbox Time Capsule ethernet moderate NAT

I am using DSL, 6 mbps
    Time Capsule with latest firmware
    ethernet cable to Xbox 360
Xbox network test shows that I am running a moderate NAT. Experiencing significant lag.
How can I get the NAT to be open?

Update: I have purchased a Linksys N-Gaming adapter, and it has enabled me to connect to the Time Capsule wirelessly.
I still haven't been able to change the NAT settings on TC in order to get an open NAT with the Xbox Live connection.

  • (PS3)Changing NAT TYPE to Open for router WRT150N

I need help chaning the NAT Type to open because I can't play with some of my friends on Playstation. Tell me how please
    loans personal

A known issue with Linksys routers is the NAT Type 3 or anything related to dropping of Internet connectivity during play time. Network Address Translation (NAT) is the ability of a router or firewall to translate a public IP address to a private IP address and vice versa. It adds security to the network by keeping the private IP addresses hidden from the outside world.
Gaming consoles such as Xbox 360®, PlayStation®3, and Wii™ often encounter NAT related issues resulting to poor gaming experience. This problem is resolved by checking the settings on your router which contribute to NAT issues.
This is due to the built-in firewall of the router and to get past this, you will need to open ports on the router. You may do this by either doing Port Forwarding or Port Triggering. Once the ports are successfully opened, the NAT Type issue will change to Open or Moderate thus, making the gaming console work.
Here is the link which resolve the issue: http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=2902de6218ed4dc1a4c595595ca1f60a_Resolving_NAT_Typ...

  • Time Capsule PS3

Is it possible to to connect the Time Capsule to a PS3 via a USB cord (using a gender change?) to dump files (videos and music) on to the PS3?
    Thanks!

Sorry, but no. The USB port on the Time Capsule is only for connecting up a USB hard drive, printer, or hub. However, it may be possible to transfer data to the PS3 if it is connected to the TC by Ethernet. That is, of course, if the PS3 allows you to connect to a network drive. Sorry, I won't be able to verify that this would work as I don't have a PS3 to try it with.

  • Time Capsule with Double NAT status - Question.

Hi all.. would appreciate some advice.
I have a Time capsule set to DHCP/NAT.
I have a second Airport extreme connected to TC via eithernet (about 100 yards away) set to Bridge to further my signal on a big property.
I have several Aiport Expresses for Airplay only.
I recently called Apple and they told me to set my TC to DHCP/NAT and chose ignore.
I had problems with my computers connecting to the internet (they connected to my network, but not internet.  Or occasionally I would get errors on my MBP that said could not connect this IP address is used by another device).  It was sporatic.  Apple told me this was likely because I have 20-30 wifi devices in my house and my ISP is not providing enough IP addresses.  They told me that DHCP/NAT makes my TC 'be in charge' of these IP addresses.
I am using Frontier service.  Modem from Frontier is Netgear B90 - 755044 - 15.
When I set up this modem, I turned the wifi portion off.  And currently the wireless light on the modem doesn't ever blink, so I believe it is off.
So why am I getting the Double NAT error since my Modem appears to have the wifi portion turned off?
    Thank you very much!

    Thanks again Bob!
I called Frontier... they refused to show me how to put my modem/router in Bridge mode.  Hypothentically, if I did that, would that solve this problem?  Sounds like it would.  They said they won't show me how to do it because they use PPPoE or something and if I put into bridge mode I won't get internet access.  Is that true?  They only use bridge mode for businesse they said.
I never wanted a modem/router.... I wish I only had a modem! .  Maybe I will call them back and ask only for a modem.  Good idea.
    Attaching a screen shots below.
If I go into My connection at the top, hit Edit.... no where in there is a bridge option.
If I go to that green Enabled one under VC's... where it says PPPoE, there is a selection to choose Bridge.
    See below.
But I'm too chicken and I don't know if that is the answer or not.
    Thougths?
    Thanks again Bob!

  • Time capsule IP settings / NAT / DHCP / questions

I'm trying to set up a Time Capsule in my apartment, to use as a wireless router with several apple computers. I've been using an Airport Express in the past. I'm having problems setting up the computers to get individual IP addresses, not in conflict with each other, while still receiving the Internet signal.
My DSL comes with a stable IP address which I have assigned to the Capsule, along with associated subnet mask, router address (the router in the building from the service provider, which is working fine), and DNS server addresses.
Trouble is, if I set my capsule to assign IPs through DHCP or share a signal IP, it shows blinking amber on reboot. Strangely, as a bridge, with one computer assigned the same IP I'm able to get the internet, but if I want to use more than one computer, I get an error message about IP duplication. I'm also wondering about double NAT (which I'm not as familiar with). ANother question is whether to plug into the WAN or LAN port. The airport setup seems to want me to use the WAN port (and says that no ethernet plugged in there is a problem). Is it?
Finally, I was wondering if I can use my old airport express to extend my range and/or network a second printer in the other room. Do the two routers need to be connected by an ethernet cable? Can the airport express be remotely set up to use the same network the Time Capsule is plugged into from the wall?
Many thanks for anybody's help with this.

The airport setup seems to want me to use the WAN port (and says that no ethernet plugged in there is a problem). Is it?
Yes you want the DSL modem plugged into the WAN port.
Does your DSL require PPPoE? If so, after configuring the Time Capsule to get a connection using PPPoE... ensure that you DISABLE PPPoE on each of your computers. Only one device should be handling PPPoE.
Finally, I was wondering if I can use my old airport express to extend my range and/or network a second printer in the other room.
Yes as long as you configure the Time Capsule to work in an 802.11g compatible mode AND you configure both the Time Capsule and AirPort Express (AX) to wirelessly connect using WDS.
Do the two routers need to be connected by an ethernet cable?
    No

  • Time Capsule, Xbox and NAT settings.

    Hello there..
I recently moved to a new a apartment and since then, am I having nothing but trouble. I've been struggling with the NAT setting on my iMac, because of bad connections and warnings on my Xbox. I want to change the settings from "strict" to "open", but I have no idea how?...
I use the newest Time Capsule and my iMac is from late 2009.
Any help will be much appreciated, thanks!

Thank you so much for the fast feedback, but i think it's already turned off... When i go to my AirPort Manual Setup, and so on, does it say "Off (Bridge Mode)"...?
I if it's any help: In my last apartment I had one modem and a Time Capsule. The modem supplied the Internet from our TV cable (I think) and then my Time Capsule that took the internet and made it wireless. I don't know if it's any help, but we didn't have any problems back then.
Now we only have my Time Capsule, that's using a regular internet cable from a little tiny white box that's hanging on our kitchen wall.
PS: My Time Capsule didn't create a new network when I moved, it kept the password, the networks name and maybe some settings? I don't know and I still don't have any idea on how to fix it...
Again, thank you so much for your reply!

  • How to get nat type 1 with airport extreme and ps3?

I use airport extreme as my default router. I have my ps3 connected to a separate airport in a different room. I can only get nat type 2 and want to get nat type 1 as I can barely connect to any hosts online.

NAT type 1 is when you connect your PS3 directly to your modem with no router in between.  The problem with this is that there will be no way to share your internet connections with other devices.  NAT type 2 is where you have a router in between your modem and your PS3, and NAT type 3 is where you have some or all needed ports blocked which is where you would have issues.
NAT type 2 is a correct way for your PS3 to work, and your wireless connection strength may be the reason for connection issues.

  • Open NAT type on ps3

  • WRT120N How to open NAT type PS3 !!!!

    Hi i have a WRT120N router.
it goes alrite in connection wise but for my ps3 my nat type is strict which wont let me join
in some of my mate's partie's or host a game. And i REALLY wanna fix it by opening my nat
i've bascially tried everything portforwading but when you save it when portforwarding, it doesn't save like it look's like on the
video's i have seen on youtube. Uhm iv'e done that DMZ thing which also didnt work.
iv'e bascially done everything on youtube and other site's
Im just wondering if it's just the router. Or just the way i have it all setup because my router is setup in
a different room with the computer which is hooked up with the modem and my ps3 is in my room which is a different room and is just connected threw WiFi my connection on the ps3 is wireless obviously. Should i buy a new router or just ring a linksey person ? .it's getting to that point.
And yeah i just wanna get it to open HELP PLEASE !!!!!
    GriMxDRiFT3r.

Hi - I think you are wanting to connect your PS3 with an internet cable and go wired , rather than wireless.  Going online means being connected to the internet which you have done already only your PS3 and you router have done this wirelessly.
You need to connect your router to your PS3 with a Cat 5 cable - standard ethernet cable, then look at your network settings on your PS3 - set these to a wired connection and choose the auto and default settings through the next pages and see how that works.  It was really straighforward when I set mine up.
    Hope this helps

  • Time Capsule and PS3 Streaming Slow

I have the '09 Time Capsule, an '07 iMac, and PS3. I have been streaming videos from the iMac to the PS3 via Nullriver's Media Link over my Time Capsule Wifi network for a year now just fine. No problems. Over the last two weeks, my streaming is so slow. 700MB movies will load but freeze after 5 minutes. The Netflix app on the PS3 is painfully slow as well since it shares the same Time Capsule WiFi.
I have unplugged and reset everything: Verizon FioS router, time capsule, Ps3, IMac etc, multiple times. I have made sure that all firmwares are up to date, which they are. I have checked my d/u speeds by hard lining the iMac into the Verizon router and called Verizon tech support.., everything is fine. Internet access over the TCapsule wifi network either by iPad, iMac, or mbpro is decent but not great. I've narrowed the problem down to when I stream media btw the iMac and Ps3 over the TC WiFi. what should i do?
I really dont want to mess around with network settings because it use to work perfect with the basic settings i have always used. Someone told me it could by wifi degradation on the Time Capsule because of all the heat and constant use over a year. thoughts

I have a similar problem. I have an '09 iMac and Time Machine downstairs and a PS3 attached to big screen tv upstairs. I can stream Netflix perfectly to the iMAC but when viewing via the PS3 wirelessly I often get stops and starts. I have all the latest SW installed for everything. Someone told me I might need to install a repeater upstairs, that it could be simply a distance thing. I'd like to know for sure what to do before randomly buying new pieces of HW.

  • Configure Time Capsule for remote access

I have a second generation 2TB Time Capsule, operating on Bridge Mode, connected to an Arris Touchstone Telephony Gateway TG862. I want to configure Back to My Mac to be able to access the Time Capsule remotely.
I've followed the basic steps and get this message from the settings in the iCloud Pane in System Preferences: Setup router for better performance. And this details: Contact your ISP for a different server address.
I've tried Google and OpenDNS, and also disabling the Firewall in the Arris router, and still can't access the Time Capsule remotely.
I also tried disabling NAT and seeing it up as Bridged in the router, and disabling Wireless as well, trying to configure the Time Capsule to serve NAT and DHCP to no avail.
Any steps I'm missing or a whole different approach I should take to be able to access my Time Capsule remotely?
Thank you in advance for any help.

You will have to learn how to port forward in your Arris Gateway..
    Arris Touchstone Telephony Gateway TG862
The easiest way is to simply google it.
    http://forums.comcast.com/t5/Home-Networking-Router-WiFi/Port-forwarding-in-Arri s-TG852G-CT/td-p/954929
It certainly appears to be problematic.. which is not surprising... If you really need remote access I would request a pure modem from your ISP (Comcast??) or simply replace it with one in the list. You will need to turn off any inbuilt firewall in the router and use DMZ perhaps to the TC.
There is a few posts on youtube which also might help you. eg
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_8tKBHvCz_0
But I am on ADSL so my setup is too unlike yours to really tell you much.
If you want to test something.. let me recommend you load Teamviewer onto a computer in your LAN.. set the computer up to never sleep and then try and reach it using Teamviewer from WAN connection.. if that works.. let me recommend you stick to something of this type. Unless you are prepared to change modems with your ISP I doubt you will solve it.
If teamviewer fails nothing is going to work.. you need to at least turn off the firewalls in both the computer and the router..
If you don't want to leave a computer running 24/7 to accept incoming requests.. then use WD MyCloud or similar type NAS.. which are far better designed for remote access than Apple routers.. or use a cloud storage and keep files you might want there.
