Time Capsule Schedule Configuration

I have a Time Capsule 1Tb, and make a reserve copie each hour.
Is it possible to configure the schedule for example on the 2 or 3 hour per day.
Al ready Thanks
Julz

Not necessarily recommended, but Time Machine Editor will allow you to set the backup schedule any way that you like.

Can time capsule be configured to back up mixed mac/pc networks?

That may work, but there are complications to putting Time Machine backups and other data on the TC's internal HD.  See #Q3 in Using Time Machine with a Time Capsule for details and some workarounds.

  • Time Capsule lost configuration

I went into my network settings and made the network available only between 6 am and midnight.  I saved it, but then the computer couldn't get on the internet.  When I clicked on the wifi it keeps asking me for a WPA2 password, which I entered but it is saying is incorrect.  When I went back to my network settings, all my configurations are gone and it is locating an OLD bellsouth info.  How do I fix it?

A sudden power outage or voltage surge due to  a thunderstrorm or similar can cause the Time Capsule and other AriPort rotuers to lose their settings and return to factory defaults.
You might want to plug the Time Capsule into a surge protected power strip to help minimize the chances of this occuring again the future.

Is it feasible or even possible to restrict/change time machine on time-capsule to only once per day at a specific time?

I leave Time Machine to back up every hour except if I am doing video editing, in which case I turn TM off during that time. If you'd like to setup up a different back up schedule, try this link:

  • Time Capsule DSL configuration problem

I have a TC and have a problem with the DSL PPPoE configuration. First, I am in Brasil so that in itself can be a problem. I use Telephonica and have Modem configured but when I set the configuration for the TC with the PPPoE sign in info I cannot access the network from my MacBook Pro. I can from my Dell notebook but have to have a extra network connection that signs into to the DSL account at telephonica. When I set the TC to an ethernet connection then I can access with the MacBook with it's own account sign in. This is a pain. I have to sign into two accounts to get on the internet. Anybody got any ideas?

Hello Kinn. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
The bottom line is that only the device directly connected to the DSL service is required to provide the PPPoE credentials. Typically this is done either by the modem or the Internet router (like your Time Capsule). It can also be accomplished by a network client connected directly to the modem as well.
When you have Dell laptop connected directly to the modem, is the Dell configured to provide the PPPoE credentials? If so, then it would be appropriate to configure the TC the same way when it is directly connected to the modem.
If, on the other, hand the modem is providing the credentials, then you just need to make sure that the TC is configured for "Using DHCP" to get its IP addresses from the ISP.

  • New Time Capsule: Ideal Configuration Advice needed for dual band

I am updating/changing my wireless network to incorporate a 2TB Time Capsule instead of an Airport Extreme (not dual band but 80211.n). I have 2 old Airport Expresses (80211.g) that I will replace with newer 80211.n versions for AirTunes and wireless printing. My Airport Extreme still works and can also be used to extend the network.
I want to set up the new version of the network to use the dual band wisely given the items in my household that will be using it. I’m afraid I don’t quite understand what the ideal setup would be and hesitate to dismantle my currently working system before I’ve mapped out what I ought to do for the new one.
The wireless items that need to use the network:
    MacBook Pro (circa 2007, Intel)
(needs to be backed up on Time Capsule daily, holds the large iTunes Library & large iPhoto library)
    iBook (circa 2004)
    iPhone 3GS
    Wii
    LG blu ray player
(n compatible... not currently in my network but will be added once the new network is up and running... hoping to use it to wirelessly download HD movies at 720p at least)
AirTunes (2 systems, using Airport Express units)
Canon printers (2... not wireless themselves but using Airport Expresses... I have 2 old Expresses or I can use the Extreme or the TC or piggy back on one of the Expresses that is supplying AirTunes)
TiVo series 2 DVR wireless connection (I do not know if this is n or g compatible. It’s several years old so I suspect g.)
Can someone point me to documentation that will help me understand my choices and possibilities, not just the technical how-to? Is there an ideal setup that's obvious to those of you with experience?

Hello KristenLC. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
There are a number of things to take into consideration when "designing" a network. One of them is the bandwidth requirements of the network clients. Staying with this topic and based on your hardware: the MacBook Pro (Time Machine backups), LG player (Video streaming), & TiVo (Video streaming) will all require the most bandwidth. Streaming audio to the AirPort Express Base Stations (AXn) would most likely be the next in line for bandwidth. The iPhone, Wii, and iBook would probably require the least.
As such, you want to place your networking clients on the appropriate network infrastructure that would provide them with the best bandwidth possible for their needs. Ethernet will provide the best bandwidth, followed by 5 GHz 802.11n, 2.4 GHz 802.11n, and then, 2.4 GHz 802.11g.
So with not knowing where the desired location of your hardware, I can only recommend the following:
    1) Connect the MBP, either by Ethernet or 5 GHz 802.11n, to the Time Capsule (TC).
    2) Connect the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn), by Ethernet, to the TC.
    3) Connect the LG, either by Ethernet or 5 GHz 802.11n, to either the TC or AEBSn.
    4) Similarly, connect the TiVo, either by Ethernet or 5 GHz 802.11n, to either the TC or AEBSn.
    5) Join both AXn to either the TC or AEBSn by 5 GHz 802.11n.
    6) Connect the iBook, either by Ethernet or 2.4 GHz 802.11g to the TC.
    7) Connect the iPhone by 2.4 GHz 802.11g to the TC.
    8) Connect the Wii, either by Ethernet or 5 GHz 802.11n, to either the TC or AEBSn.
Can someone point me to documentation that will help me understand my choices and possibilities, not just the technical how-to?
One excellent source would be from the Take Control series of guides. In particular, I would recommend that you check out: "Take Control of Your 802.11n AirPort Network" by Glenn Fleishman.

  • Time Capsule / Uverse Configuration Nightmare

Years and years ago (2008 at least), I bought a 500 GB Time Capsule and used it to create a wireless network off my college campus's wired network.  Since moving into an apartment and having Uverse (2009 and beyond), I have had issues with resolving disputes between my Time Capsule and Uverse.  Eventually I somehow managed to get my old model Time Capsule to exist with a solid green light as simply accessing the network through the 2Wire router and using it as a conduit for a USB printer and scanner.
I realized this past month I have a 3TB (old model) time capsule that I wanted to set up as well to back up hard copies of iTunes libraries, computers, etc., but i wanted to find the best possible way to set this up.  Currently, my issues are as follows:
I can get the 3TB to show that it should create a wireless network, but it still shows that it is in Bridge mode.  I tried using the iPad AirPort Utility app to change from bridge to accessing the internet via PPPoE, and now it's simply disappeared from AirPort Utility altogether.
The 500GB time capsule refuses to do anything but be in bridge mode and access the internet/network through the 2Wire router.  Any other attempt to update it, including simply putting in my iCloud details to set up Back To My Mac, makes it spit out the error: "Invalid value - A value for IP address is required," which then requires me to input various data for primary and secondary RADIUS servers.  I am anything but a network specialist, and this is too complicated for me to solve on my own.
    What should I do?

Actually, it's not set up as Enterprise.
The radius servers you have shown in the screenshot are only when you set authentication to Enterprise.
When you click the radius server this screen pops up.. it never appears otherwise. You only way you could have got this screen is by setting wireless to enterprise.
Anyway after a reset it will go back to standard WPA2 Personal if you use the airport utility setup wizard.
But I guess I won't really know if Back to my Mac is working or not until I try from a different network?
So far the experience for BTMM working is only when the Airport Router (TC in your case) is main network router. It will not work in bridge.. but try and see..
There are other ways to skin the cat.. normally the uverse is setup in router mode.. you can be very sure it is the case in any recent setup.. all ISP prefer to supply a modem wireless router so they can control your network remotely.. Power and Control gives them less support headaches.
You can simply open port 548 in the uverse to the internet.. and direct that port to whichever computer or device you want.. you can even access multiple computers on the network.. using address translation if the uverse supports it.
An even better solution can be setting up vpn but I would need to learn more.. vpn is the standard commercial setup. High security with full network access.
Tell me how your BTMM trial goes and then we can work on the opening ports.

  • Time Capsule and configuring from multiple computers

When I configure the TC do I have to do it from one computer? Are the settings saved on only one computer or can I open up AirPort utility from any computer and configure?
    Thx

Welcome to the discussions, Ed Par!
You can configure the TC from any computer that has a current version of AirPort Utility.
If you are setting up Time Machine for backups to the TC, this must be done on each individual computer.

  • Time Capsule Firewall configuration

Does anyone have the IPv6 Firewall enabled? If so how do you have yours configured? There's basically little info in the docs regarding this firewall or how to properly configure it's settings.

Issue is resolved. I used the initial random generated shared secret that was generated by Lion Server. The shared secret has special characters. IOS did not like the special characters. See iPhone Console Log below:

  • How do I configure Time Capsule to recognize my Denon receiver?

    Hi all,
New to the forums but have spent the past few days perusing them to no avail - your help is appreciated from a networking newbie!
I have a Denon AVR 2312ci which I'd previously had hard-wired to an old Belkin router.  The only hiccup I'd had at the time was the requirement that I disable UPnP.  I have an Apple TV that I use to stream music via airplay to the receiver, which works quite well.  However, it requires me to turn on the receiver, whereas directing airplay to the receiver itself would "wake on LAN", a feature I like.
Since then, I've upgraded to a 2TB Time Capsule.  However, following the router change I am no longer able to find the Denon on my home network, nor do any of the networking capabilities of the receiver work any longer.  I tried disabling DHCP on the Denon and assigning a static IP address, but this didn't work.  I tested multiple Cat5e cables using various LAN ports on the router - no luck there, either.  I tried to reset the network card on the Denon - same result.
I'm beginning to wonder whether the problem lies with the way the Time Capsule is configured - any thoughts or suggestions out there?

    LP,
    IT WORKS!
To summarize for anyone who might have this problem, here's what fixed it:
    1) Time Capsule --Cat5e--> LAN port of router/switch (in my case, an old Netgear 10/100 with DHCP and NAT disabled) --Cat5e--> Denon receiver
    2) Through Airport Utility, made an IP reservation for an IP outside of the DHCP range (in my case 10.0.1.2 through 10.0.1.200, so I chose 10.0.1.202).  You will need your AV receiver's MAC address to do this.
    3) Disabled DHCP on the Denon
    4) Manually entered the IP address (e.g. 10.0.1.202), subnet mask 255.255.255.0, default gateway 10.0.1.1 (e.g. the TC's local IP), primary DNS 8.8.8.8, secondary DNS left blank, proxy off
This worked after I left the unit on standby for a period of a few hours (did not immediately work).  I did not need to do any port forwarding, DMZ, etc.
I am now able to access the unit from my web browser in my local network and am able to airplay directly to the unit using my other airplay enabled apps/iTunes.
Much thanks to LaPastenague for his very helpful advice!!

  • How can I configure my Time Capsule as a WiFi extension in my Belgacom B-Box WiFi Network?

I'm using Belgacom B-Box that serves both my digital TV and the local WiFi network in our house.  Because of problems with the WiFi signal strength I bought a Time Capsule.  It is the purpose to use the TC as a WiFi extension throughout our house, and meanwhile use the backup functionalities.
Of course I want to keep the B-Box delivering digital TV, and also WiFi, strenghtend by the Time Capsule.
The setup of the TC always gives me "an unexpected problem has occurred" and than I need to reset it to the factory settings.
Has anybody experience in setting up this combination?  If you have, please give me a detailed answer, since I'm not a networking specialist :-)
    Thanks in advance

It is the purpose to use the TC as a WiFi extension throughout our house, and meanwhile use the backup functionalities.
Unfortunately, Apple designed the "extend" feature to only work with other Apple wireless routers, so the Time Capsule would not be compatible with the B-Box for the purpose that you ask about....using wireless only.
If the B-Box has an extra Ethernet port, you can connect an Ethernet cable from the port on the B-Box to the WAN "O" port on the Time Capsule and configure it to provide more wireless coverage that way.

  • How to configure Time Capsule for setup of an IP camera?

First, a summary of my gear:  Internet service provider = Verizon FIOS.  FIOS uses an ActionTec Router (Model MI424WR).  The ActionTec does the routing, assignment of private IP addresses and NAT.  The ActionTec has wireless capability but I have DISABLED the wireless piece of ActionTec.  I use Time Capsule (4rth generation, 802.11n, Version 7.6) for my wireless LAN.  The Time Capsule is hardwired to the ActionTec via Ethernet.
My objective is to setup a Foscam IP camera (Model FI8918), connected wirelessly with Time Capsule, so that I can control the Foscam from both inside and outside of my wireless LAN from my iPhone running a Foscam app.  If anyone has managed to get an IP camera up and running in the scenario described above, I would appreciate any tips and info, especially when it comes to port forwarding and connection sharing.  For example, do I need to setup port forwarding on both the ActionTec and Time Capsule?  What type of connection sharing?  Right now, the Time Capsule is in bridge mode.

I have yet to setup my cameras, but I can tell you that since the Time Capsule is configured in Bridge Mode....and that is the correct setting for it when it is connected to the Actiontec Gateway/Router.....that any port forwarding or other configuration must take place within the Actiontec router.
In Bridge Mode, the Time Capsule is acting as a simple pass through device even though it is functioning as a wireless access point.
Everything on the network gets an IP address from the Actiontec device, so that is where you will need to concentrate with the configuration of the cameras.
It's unlikely that an Actiontec expert is here on an Apple support forum, but you never know.  Might be a good idea to also post in an Actiontec support forum.

  • Configuring the time capsule airport wlan function as "connect to wlan", the time caspule gets a correct IP adress from the other wlans IP range, but does not assign this to the ethernet ports. With Airport Express it worked!

Configuring the time capsule airport wlan function as "connect to wlan", the time capsule gets a correct IP adress from the other wlans IP range, but does not assign this to the ethernet ports. With Airport express it worked, the single Ethernet port got the IP Parameters passed through!
My setup is a Vodafon Esaybox connected to ISP. Time Capsule is not able to extend the wlan of the easybox, neither airport express can do.
Only the option "connect to wlan" is succesful.
With airport express I was able to connect my Sony Bravia TV to the lan via ethernet to stream pictures, the TV set got an IP adress from the easybox.
With the time capsule the easybox dosn't find devices connected to the ethernet ports to submit IP adresses. The TV set get another IP adress (169.xxx.x.x.) in subnet mask 255.255.0.0 and I don not now where from.
My notebook is a MacBook pro.
    Any idea????
    Thank a lot in advance!
    Kind regards
    Ingo

Neverthe less, could there be the chance, that this feature could be implemnented with an firmware update?
That would appear to be a question for Apple to answer. You can make suggestions to Apple here:
Apple - AirPort Extreme - Feedback
If the AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule are configured to "extend a wireless network" they will provide additional wireless coverage....and...the Ethernet ports are enabled in this type of setup.
The "catch" here is that you must have an Apple router providing the network to be extended.

  • WiFi no longer working with new Time Capsule-can you help please?

    Hi all,
Just received my new Time Capsule (TC). It was a little problematic setting up, but probably due to my now choosing to increase my security from WEP to WPA as the TC set-up assistant suggests. Since then, I have had numerous problems getting my other computers and now my iPhone to connect with WiFi.
The problem is that despite entering all the new settings and WPA passwords for my connection with the TC, the iPhone will either momentarily recognize and go to wifi or simply stay on Edge.
On the former, with wifi active, as soon as I go to iTunes, Safari or check email, it reverts to Edge. On the latter, despite resetting, entering password, or tapping Settings and selecting my wifi connection, it will NOT connect and stays on Edge.
(Now, I'm on Edge! I'm bummed that with new hardware I have new problems that didn't exist before!)
Can someone who had this same problem tell me how they resolved it.
Here's the one clue I have, but would rather not resort to: When I first set up the TC, I had it on WEP with a WDS Network, and everything was working great and FAST! Now that I have increased the security—I will be backing up 3 computers to the TC—my iPhone and other computers seem to have intermittent or no wifi connection as a result.)

    Irving Gonzales,
If your computers are 802.11N capable, you might want to try an advanced setup that might help your Time Machine speeds some. I have not personally tested it, so it is just a personal theory at this point.
First, in a mixed environment the 802.11N clients all get slowed down.
First, configure the TC for 802.11N only.
Second, connect the Airport Express via ethernet to the Time Capsule
Third, configure the Airport Express for bridged mode (doesn't give out IP addresses), and for its own wireless network with a different name than the Time Capsule.
Have any 802.11b/g clients like the iPhone join the Airport Express' network.
    Thank you,
    Nathan C.

  • Time Capsule - OS Upgrade and External Hard Drive

Hi, This is my first request and am happy to have found this community helpful so far. It has answered many of my previous questions because somebody else had already asked. However, this time I’m not able to get all the answers since I have specific questions. Please help.
I have a Macbook (late 2008 Aluminum) with 2GB memory, Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GHz running Leopard. I just went and bought these to start an upgrade project–
    a. CD for Snow Leopard
    b. Time Capsule
    c. 4 GB memory (2*2GB)
    d. 1 External Hard Drive – 1 TB Seagate GoFlex (running out of space in 160GB macbook)
I will buy these applications via Mac App Store after I have the OS upgrade:
    e. iPhoto ‘11
    f. iMovie ‘11
I have successfully connected time capsule and configured it as my router and have set it up as the time machine backup device (what a breeze!). Also, I have taken the first full backup of macbook and am ready to go. Before I go ahead with next steps, I have few questions:
Should I install the new memory first and then Snow Leopard or doesn’t matter?
Any advice for my memory upgrade? I found the instruction manual in Apple’s site and am planning to do it myself.
Any advice for my Snow Leopard upgrade or anything to be cautious about? I believe the instructions after I pop in the CD will be self-explanatory.
After I have done the Snow Leopard Upgrade, I believe I will still have access to my files in the time machine backup in TC from before the OS upgrade? The reason I ask is I am planning to delete/move files after the OS upgrade.
FYI – After the Snow Leopard Upgrade, I will upgrade to iPhoto ’11 and iMovie ’11 from ’08. I have the latest iTunes.
After I have Snow Leopard, iPhoto/iMovie ’11, I will connect the EHD to the TC USB port and am planning to move the iTunes Media and iMovie project/events to the EHD (found the instructions on this) and delete the media from the macbook internal drive to relieve space. Say, just in case my EHD crashes in the next 2 days after I do this, will I still be able to recover the previous media/project files from Time Capsule? Or do I need to copy the iTunes Media and iMovie project/events into the Time Capsule manually before I move it into EHD? Basically, I want to make sure I have 2 copies of my media, 1 in TC and 1 in EHD, since I am deleting it from mac’s IHD.
Now say I have the EHD connected to TC via USB and have moved my all media and movie projects into the EHD. So macbook is accessing the EDH wirelessly, as the source for iTunes and iMovie media. For performance or portability, if I plug my EHD directly into the macbook, can it seamlessly recognize it as the media source for iTunes and iMovie or are there any settings involved? I am just wondering since via the TC it was a shared drive, and now it’s a plugged-in EHD.
I know that Time Machine does incremental backups. Is there an explanation on this as to what is meant by hourly, daily and weekly backups and what are the copies made? I heard the hourly are replaced by daily backups and the daily are replaced by weekly, what does that mean?
This may not impact me now, but may be soon. Is it true that once TC is full, time machine will delete copies of the oldest backup? My concern is that I want to somehow conserve today’s backup for good. Is that do able?
Should I be concerned that time machine backs up every hour, since it may reduce my macbook’s performance during the backups? I know a way to reduce the backup frequency, am just trying to understand if it’s necessary to do so?
How do I use my time capsule as an external hard drive? The reason is I have another PC from which I want to copy files and store in TC as a backup.
I know I have many questions, but am hoping to get your expert advice. Thank you.

Hello, seems like you wanted to do pretty much what i wanted to do. that is free up space on lap top. But still have instant access to your itunes stuff. I found a solution that works for me.
I have a portable WD hdd attached to my time capsule via usb, i then access both through the capsules wireless connection, using the TC for time machine.
The Apple tv then accesses my itunes lib through my MBP via TC's wireless. I did however connect the WD Hdd directly to my MBP for the initial transfer to the apple tv, but itunes seems to find the lib as long as its there, doesnt matter if its connected to MBPs usb or the TCs usb. Sometimes it might revert to the default location, but i've found that if you click on a song it still plays, then if you close then reopen itunes every thing goes back to your external hdd...
Which means if you go away or want your itunes lib on the move you just need a little WD hdd.
I'm not totally sure if its worked yet but i connected my WD hdd to my MBP vie usb and told the TC to back up that too by going to options in TM preferences, seems to have worked, not sure if it would work while connected to the TC usb connection, doesnt seem to.
NB:Before you do this do a back up of everything in you Itunes Lib on your TC incase you screw up.
(For easy transfer of your itunes lib go to preferences on itunes and create a folder called iTunes Music on your Hdd then close preferences and allow itunes to do its thing, then in itunes go to
file - library - consolidate library, itunes. Itunes then makes a copy of all music on your new hdd. I then deleted the tunes off my MBP)
Just make sure you open your finder and click on the TC to wake the drive before you open Itunes other wise you'll have to go in to preferences and keep altering the location for your itunes folder. which can take i tunes a while.
This method seems to cope with video and music just fine.
Well hope that wasn't too confusing, as i confuse myself at times.
    Good Luck.........
