Time Capsule - Share over WAN

My Time Capsule is connected to another router through Ethernet as bridge mode and wireless. Therefor the option to Share disc over WAN and i can't access it over the internet. Is it possible to set up the same Share over WAN feature on my routers web interence?

Ok, lets get down and dirty.
What modem router are you running?
Does it have a DMZ and have you tried placing the TC in the DMZ?
Many routers do not allow a connection to be made even after you have port forwarded because the firewall is turned on. Turn off the firewall in the router. Turn off the firewall in the router on the wan connection. Check that the computer firewall is also not preventing the connection.
*Firewall is a key issue for failure to connect over WAN connections*
Sometimes upnp in the router can mess up with manual port forwarding. Try turning off upnp.
I would also try reset of the modem and if possible see if you can get something to ping respond to you. If the modem has a ping responder in it, turn it on to ensure you can actually get packets to the router and back again.
I also have to ask you are actually testing from a different internet connection?? You cannot test wan port opening from LAN.. well not without nat loopback or remote proxy setup.

  • Suggestions, Observations and problem with Time Capsule shares

    *Some Observations*
The Time Capsule can take a long time to become active. This is especially true if using an extended or WDS network. I would suspect this is due to the negotiation between devices that it needs to do. I have on occasion believed it to be hung, only to find that after walking away for a bit it comes up. This also impacts devices showing up in the Airport utility.
Using a time capsule with one Airport Express B/G will work, but adding a second creates problems.
Extending a network with an Airport Express N seems to work well.
Best bet is to set up separate B/G and N networks and run your N network as N only at 5Ghz.
WEP provides no real security, so think of it as you would an open network.
    *My Issue*
I am having an issue where the time capsule shares become unavailable. It is an intermittent issue, and I have been unable to identify a test case. This happens for devices connected over ethernet as well as wireless. The Time Capsule shows in the Finder list, but the volumes are not available. Connecting to them fails.
The device also appears in the Airport Utility list, but when clicking on Manual Setup, or guided set up, it causes a hang.
This results in Time Machine hanging when trying to initiate a backup.
I have also noticed that when this happens, the signal does start to get a bit flaky with "Roam (Beacons Lost)" messages. Wireless connectivity still seems to be very useable though. I can connect to other network shares through the Time Machine, but not to the shares on the Time Machine. The only way to recover from this is to power cycle the Time Capsule.
One thing I want to investigate more tonight is whether there are any issues with my keychain and old passwords in case there are multiple failed attempts in the mix that are doing something. Although I know of no lockout feature on the device.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. This is the second Time Machine, so I have seen this on two different devices. I am also seeing this issue across 4 different computers simultaneously, some via ethernet and some wirelessly. Time Capsule is 7.3.2

    Hi,
I have pretty much the same problem, 1TB Time Capsule that works fine most of the time as a wireless router. Up till recently Time Machine backups just worked (as one would expect them to) wired and wireless. I went away for a week came back and now every time Time Machine invokes a back up process all of a sudden my wireless network goes down, Time Machine can no longer see the Time Capsule and all other devices (iphone / apple TV other non apple devices) no longer have connections (they see wireless but no pass through to the internet or each other).
I have tried resetting all sorts of stuff, re-deployed my network, changed IP / LAN settings to make it less complex, Yasu'd my mac, connected only via wires, cleaned out my keychain etc etc and still get the same problems and as per Chris's point airport utility also hangs and the only solution is rebooting the time capsule.
I am fairly frustrated with this! any suggestions / help would be gratefully accepted.
    thanks
    alex

  • Losing connection to Time Capsule share of slide show images

My 10.6.latest iMac screen saver references a folder on my Time Capsule external drive over a WiFi network.
Lately (10.6.5?), instead of seeing the screen saver images, I see a "unable to find" sort of message. I can still connect to the Time Machine through the FInder.
My hunch is that the Time Capsule drive has gone to sleep and the OS X screen saver is timing out before it comes online.
    Anyone see anything like this?
I'm thinking of running a script or utility that would simply access the Time Capsule NAS frequently.

Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to solve the problem.  ITunes still periodically complains that it can't find the library - this happens both when the Mac has been on for awhile and I first start up iTunes, or if iTunes has been running for awhile as well.  In either case, I have to click through to the Time Capsule share with the iTunes library on it.  I can tell the Mac has lost the connection because it takes some time for the share and its folders to show up as I click through the path.
    Anyone else run into this???

  • "Share over Wan" - passworded but log files say differently?

In a desperate attempt to get backup features to work on my TC, I enabled "Share over Wan". Thinking that I've got more than enough security with disk passwords, I didn't automatically think there'd be a problem.
I then looked at my log files on my TC a day later and saw successful logins from IP's other than mine - but all within the same subdomain.
Does "Share over Wan" supersede the disk passwords? I've tried accessing from other subdomains (my work) and always get prompted for passwords. Should I be worried about these successful logins or ignore them as successful pings (or the like?)
I've, of coarse, now turned off "Share over Wan".

I have one suggestion: your count_lines method will be quite slow on large log files.
Rather than use readlines you can optimize the read operations like so:
    line_count = 0
    File.open(identifier.to_cache_path) do |f|
    while block = f.read(1024)
    line_count += block.count("\n")
    end
    end
The speed boost makes it comparable to shelling out to wc.
Thanks for the suggestion; I just committed it.

    iCloud does now support BTMM
This seems to be a changing situation.  The electronic book Take Control of iCloud v1.1 (from December 2011) says "An earlier version of this book incorrectly stated that Back to My Mac also lets you access files on an AirPort Disk or Time Capsule using your iCloud credentials. Although that was true with MobileMe, it’s no longer supported in iCloud."  However, this Apple document (last modified 23 March 2012) says "If you update your Time Capsule or AirPort Extreme Base Station to firmware 7.6.1 or later, you can access your Time Capsule volume or the shared storage connected to your AirPort Extreme Base Stations when your computers are on different local networks."  Apparently an update to that electronic book is being prepared.

  • Access Time Capsules HDD over the internet!?

Hi, I've done a search and was wondering if there is any method of connecting to Time Capsule over the Internet. There are some ways, but the setup seems pretty complicated.
Has anyone found an easy method of doing this?
    Thanks for the Help!
    Mike

You have to enable WAN sharing. Then you can access the drive by going to the "go" menu and "connect to server" then typing in: "apf://your external ip". Then punch in your password and you should be connected. For your PC connection you need to go to my computer, right click on it, and select map network drive and type in: "\\your external ip\your disk name". Let me know if it works.

  • Shareing Time Capsule files across WAN

I want to share files on my time capsule with a friend across the internet.  Is this possible?  My network configuration is as follows:   ISP Modem/Router - Time Capsule - Airport Extreme (extending network).  I have read multiple articles about how to make this work but I don't seem to be making headway.  All of my software/firmware seem to be up to date.  help?

The easiest way is via icloud now.. you have to have 7.6.1 firmware on the TC.. you also need airport utility v6 which is part of lion to set it up.
If you are still unable to setup btmm then check the Apple troubleshooting guides.
    http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/back-to-my-mac/
You may need to bridge the modem and run the TC in pppoe client mode.. double NAT would be an issue.. bridged TC should be ok.

  • Time capsule share files

how can i share my files for time capsule online?
    tks

I found this bug when I am trying to import some photos from iPhone to TC with Aperture 3.
P.S.: Aperture 3 is going to create some files named like: "..importing.****.jpg" on TC while importing photos.

  • Time Capsule Share Function?

is there a network share function; can I use a browser via the internet to access the time capsule on my home network?

The only share function is AFP and SMB.. there is nothing else.. no http, https, ftp dlcp or anything else that could possibly be useful. Time Capsule is a backup device for Time Machine.

  • Time Capsule connection over the internet

I bought the new Time Capsule 2T. I do travel a lot and want access to my files on the HDD of the Time Capsule. Despite some info on the internet I can not connect my Time Capsule over the internet. Any ideas how I can set my Time Capsule in such a way that I am able to connect over the internet.

  • Time Machine & Time Capsule -- Starting over?

Hi, my Time Machine lost its connection to Time Capsule in the middle of the initial backup. So now I have an incomplete backup file and I would like to set up Time Machine again, get rid of the incomplete backup file, and start over. Is there any way to do this?
Just as a note, it is not resuming from the stopped point automatically. It's as if it did finish the backup.

Note that that will erase EVERYTHING on the TC, not just your backups (I say this because someone else was advised to do this, and had other files on his TM drive).
Check what OP has written, unless they have anything else there then Erase is they way to go:

  • Time Capsule fell over, now can't get the disk to mount

    Hello all
Sorry for being a numpty, I've trawled through various threads but can't find the help I need.
I store my iTunes library on a Time Capsule. When loading up some CDs earlier, iTunes seemed to drop the connection, couldn't find the disk. I rebooted the TC and it popped up with a flashing amber. Airport Utility says "internal disk needs repair".
I've had a look for threads with similar problems but I always get stuck at the "mount the sparsebundle in Finder" bit.
I can't get Finder to see any disk at all. So I can't drag it to Disk Utility...
Am I doing something really silly?
Is my disk inside the TC toasted? I hope not... don't have the iTunes stuff anywhere else except on old backups, which are (you guessed it) on the TC also.
I'm not much good with OS X either so very basic instructions would be gratefully received.
    Thanks in advance
    Simon

Hi, I just suffered the same thing! did you get any information on this problem or were you able to retrieve your data?
    Thanks

  • Time Capsule Backup over ethernet for PC

    Hi,
I am planning to buy a Time Capsule.
I have a macbook and a PC with Windows Vista.
My PC does not have the Wireless option, so i have to connect it to the Time capsule through ethernet to use it as a router.
I have 300 GB of files on my PC, how do i transfer this to the time capsule hard drive.........on the website it says Time capsule is a "wireless shared hard drive".....what does this mean......does it mean i cannot transfer my 300GB files from my PC to the Time capsule hard drive through the ethernet cable.

You can use Ethernet to transfer files and acess the Internet through the time capsule.
