Time Capsule - slow printing

Hi,
I have connected my EPSON R800 to USB port on TC. With MAC OS it works fine - no problems. On VISTA 64 I was also able to configure the printer via Bonjour. It also works ... but extremely slow. 200 KB needs something like 10 min. to prints and last 1KB - 5 min.
any ideas?

I use a personal name for every device on my internal network. My time capsule is Mystie.local. Command Prompt used a default four pings which all returned.

I have made sure that I have bonjour installed and that all mac sofware running on here is up to date. I am dual-booting Windows 7 onto my Macbook.
I just bought this printer. I installed it on the Mac side, plugged it into the TC and re-added it to the Mac Printer Preferences. I then booted into Windows 7 and even installed all the crappy HP software that came with it to be sure I had the drivers. It still didn't show up. So I used the TCP/IP tip and got it to work in a minute. I think it even prints faster than on the Mac side.

Time Capsule slow in Lion and errors

ever since upgrading to lion i am having a lot of problems with my time capsule. it is running extremely slow, while before it was perfectly acceptable over wifi. eventually i installed the time capsule buddy widget and noticed the error below repeatedly occuring (in bold). i also noticed that all of a sudden it requires 1.89 GB to backup ( !!! ) in the last line, something that never was an issue before. have others encountered similar issues?

A: Time Capsule slow in Lion and errors

Same problem here - slow backing up to my Time Capsule. Today I had some trouble after booting my MacBook Pro. Finder got stuck and after some restarts Spotlight re-indexed and everything seems fine. And now backing up is much faster. I used to have a lot of time waiting for indexing. But I still get this error message:

But it seems that everything is working fine. It's backing up and I am able to restore files via Time Machine.
Should I worry?
Any clues?

Time capsule wireless printing only in draft mode (HP D2460)

I cannot print through time capsule wireless printing in hight quality, it prints only in draft mode. My printer is a HP D2460 and is connected to time capsule through its usb conection. I am connecting and trying to print trhough a macbook pro wirelessly connected to timecapsule.
I already made all driver updates.
If anyone can help, I would appreciate.

Time Capsule slow as 802.11g WAP

I've been having trouble with my wireless network since I received my 1TB Time Capsule. AppleTV quit syncing, .Mac Sync hung repeatedly, and Printing via the Time Capsule stutters. I only have 802.11g hosts on my network, so 802.11n performance isn't something I'm evaluating.
The goal of this testing is to assess the Time Capsule as a network access point for 802.11g hosts. Disk read/write is not part of this experiment. Each of the measurements below are results from the exact same test -- measure internet upload and download performance to a test server on the speedtest.net network.
My topology is as follows:
SBC DSL -> 2Wire modem -> TimeCapsule
For the tests below, I connected my MacBook Pro to each device, wirelessly via 802.11g and direct connect via Ethernet and ran the test from speedtest.net. Since I have a 3Mb connection, the speed of my ethernet is irrelevant. The results of the testing is below and the results show that using the Time Capsule as an 802.11g hub is slow, in fact 75% slower.
Internet Performance (3Mb service)

My conclusion, based on this testing and from several posts in this discussion board is that the Time Capsule exhibits poor performance for hosts connecting via 802.11g.
Is there some setup thing I'm missing?

The initial backup should have been wired. Future incremental backups would not be this large and wireless backups should be okay.

Time Capsule slow down: a hint

I want to share this new experience so that others can learn from it.
I've had Time Capsule for about 2 to 3 weeks now. It worked quite well for the first two weeks but this week it was really, really slow. I was going mad trying to figure out what was going on. The symptoms:
- Time Machine was spending a lot of time in the "Preparing Backup" stage
- Sometimes over 1 hour just to back up say 5MB worth of stuff
- Entering Time Machine was much slower than before
- and when I changed from using wifi to direct ethernet plug in, the backup would finish in no time
-, all backups even over wifi eventually; nothing was failing; it was just SLOW! VERY SLOW! SLOWER than before.
I was going insane trying to figure this out and even deleted all my backups and started from scratch.
Was it:
1. a corrupted diskimage?
2. something to do with a "delay ACK" setting I should fiddle around with according to one blog post?
3. A bad wifi chip on the Time Capsule?
4. Spotlight doing something funny?
It was none of these. I figured out what was going on. A neighbouring router had been interfering with my network using the same radio frequency. I don't think it was intentional. I was able to discover this after I set my mouse pointer to the wifi icon on the menu bar and pressed the option key while clicking on the icon. It showed a transmit rate of 11 or 9 instead of 54 (I'm using a G network).
The reason I didn't figure this out earlier is because my internet connection is relatively slow and B or G speeds make no difference in accessing my connection to the internet but makes a world of difference using the intranet (LAN).
I ended up switching the radio frequency my network operates on and now it's back to its normal speeds. A regular 20mb hourly update doesn't take over an hour but just takes mere minutes.
WHEW! I thought I was going insane!
Another interesting thing is that my Time Capsule is less than 12 feet from my laptop and yet my neighbour's wifi signal could interfere with it to the extent of making transfers go from 54 to 11 or less! Unfortunately I cannot switch to N because my laptop is a first generation MacBook Pro which did not come with the necessary N hardware.

mine is on channel 11 but so far its @ 54 so thats all good, but yeah i think channel 11 is very popular as its prob the default for most wireless devices!
Most routers come with the default Channel 6 set.
question though, if i change the channel on my wireless router what is the best channel to go for please? and also do my wireless devices in my home automatically change to the new channel? or do i have to mess around with each one individually?
There is no "best" channel to go for. You have to figure out what channels are being used and select one that is not being used by other routers. ONe way to do this is download the free iStumbler software which will discover all visible and invisible networks and tell you what channels are being used. From that information, select a number that is farthest from any of the other channels being used.

Time capsule slow to backup

Ever since upgrading to Maverick backing up my HD to an Airport 2TB Time Capsule is painfully slow. I have just over 200 GB to backup and after nearly a week and dozens of Airport connectivity drops I'm only at 30 GB being backed up. WTH? Is there a fix? I can type my backup faster.

I started my initial backup of 150GB (500GB Time Capsule) last night and it started at a decent speed, but this morning I checked it and it has slowed considerably (I watched take 1 minute to go from 120.18GB to 120.19 - which means it won't be done until 2012 haha). I will probably just cancel it and hook it up via ethernet and follow your instructions.
I have a question about how I set my time capsule up as well. I'm running it as a bridge connection (I don't really know what that means), but I think I have it so I'm using the time capsule as my wireless router, and it gets it's internet connection wirelessly from my AT&T U-Verse DSL modem. The internet works fine - I just want to make sure that I'm doing it right to maximize my internet speed/connection to the time capsule while maintaining WEP security. Any suggestions?

Can not print from my pc using time capsule's printer, but the mac in the office will. PC sees the network just not the printer connected to the capsule.

I can't get my pc to see the printer connected to the time capsule, it sees and connect to the network but will not see the printer. The mac in the office see both the network and the printer connected to the capsule.

Suggest that you check to make sure that you installed Bonjour Print Services for Windows v2.0.2 on the PC.
Run the program and hopefully it will find your printer so you can select it and click to get things going.

Time capsule USB printer works when I connect via ethernet but not over wifi

I have a USB printer hooked up to my new Time Capsule. If I turn off my wifi and connect to the Time Capsule with an ethernet cable it works fine. When I try to do the same thing over wifi (even when I'm sitting next to it) it cant seem to make a solid connection. Most of the time it just says Printer Paused, but sometimes it will work, other times the printer just clicks, or starts but then stops. Other than that my wifi connection seeems pretty good.
Is there something with the settings with my older "08 MacBook and the newer Time Capsule?

Did you upgrade install ML into the MB??
It sounds to me like it has corrupted the wireless drivers.. and I think you will need to do a clean install.
If you have internet working over wireless I see no reason for this to happen though.

Time Capsule Slow WLAN to internal disk with internet data transfers

All,
I've been experiencing slow responses from my Time Capsule since I got it. It is one of the newer models with dual band and I have a Macbook Pro and a Macbook connecting to the 802.11n network.
I use the internal disk of the Time Capsule as a NAS and I don't use it for Time Machine backups. It houses software, pictures and music files.
When I'm downloading files from the internet via Safari, or via Transmission (torrents) the wifi throughput of the WLAN slows down from about 5 megabytes per second to just a couple of hundred kilobytes per second.
For my tests I used a 2.2Gb DMG file (a Garageband Jampack) which was housed on the Time Capsule disk.
With Transmission running and downloading two torrents and seeding two torrents (capped upload of 2 kilobytes per second), the transfer of the file from the Time Capsule was 4 hours. I let it run a few hours just to determine that the ETA in Finder was fairly accurate.
With Transmission stopped, the transfer of the same file took 9 minutes.
With Transmission stopped but with Safari downloading a large file (400mb), the local Time Capsule file download to my Mac was again looking at around 4 hours.
It also impacts file uploads to the Time Capsule disk but no where near as badly as with downloads. According to activity monitor, throughput from the Time Capsule disk to my Mac over Wifi is around 200 kilobytes per seconds, writing to the Time Capsule was around 900 kilobytes per second.
Both upload and download speed increases dramatically when no internet based file transfers are taking place.
Now the odd thing. I have a TVIX 6500a media player attached to the Time Capsule via gigabit ethernet. In all the tests I've performed (using the same DMG file) the data transfer rate, both reading and writing to the TVIX has always been solid at nearly 5 megabytes per second.
It is almost like the Time Capsule prefers internet originated traffic over WLAN traffic to its own internal disk, and really throttles this traffic. And it lets traffic originating from other devices on the network through on all cylinders.
I know technically a Time Capsule is designed for Time Machine however I can't see how it would be a viable solution given the bad data rates when downloads are taking place.
Is there any way to get under the hood of a Time Capsule to make some adjustments? I wonder if anyone else has had any experience with this, and what might happen if I plug in a USB disk and use that instead. It is starting to look like I might have to get a decent NAS to connect to the Time Capsule but then it is just a larger heavier Airport Extreme.

I dont have any assistance to offer, but have experienced similar problems.
When trying to offload all my music from an external drive to a Time Capsule, it was estimating WEEKS to do it. Even with the HD connected right to the Time Capsule. It's like the WLAN wanted all traffic to go out then come back in before being written.
My solution in that case was to disconnect my laptop from the WLAN, with the drive hooked up to it via USB and then Cat5 to the Time Capsule and do a direct transfer like that. 2 hours instead of weeks.

Restore from Time Capsule slow not working properly help!

I bought my time capsule about two weeks ago. I have backups from most of those days on my time capsule. Since then I had to clear my hard drive and re-install my operating system. I did not think this was a big issue since i had the backups on my time capsule. However, whenever I try to do anything with a restore it is EXTREMELY SLOW. I only once got it to where it said it would restore, and I had and estimated time of over 15 days. That is just not even reasonable. I have tried restoring from several sources: restore from backup (after booting from disk), migration assistant, time machine. They all are very very slow and I only have about 100gb that was backed up. Does anyone have any tips on how to get this working. I have spend over 6 hours on tech support. I am connect via ethernet cable and I just do not understand why this is so slow.

Airport - Time Capsule slowed to a crawl

My 6 month old Airport time capsule is grinding to a halt and now can only achieve 0.5mbit/sec (both wired and wireless)) throughput when connected to the internet, even though the Netgear DSL modem alone achieves 15mbit/sec, so the line is OK. This also happend to my old TC so I bought the new upright brick version, which has been fine till a few months back. The wireless function itself works fine, although connects to the net at the same basic slow speed. I have tried everything. Changed cables, factory resets++, unplugged everything else etc. I see others have had similar problems around the chat rooms, but no solution. Any ideas?

I believe there is a WAN port compatiblity issue.
Did you buy a crossover cable to try?? They are still readily available and cheap.. and it is worth a go..
Or if you have a small 10/100 switch you can place between the netgear and the TC to see if you can get the ethernet to link correctly.
Apple removed all diagnostics.. in the end if you make no progress, it is under warranty and just return it for replacement as being faulty. (I think it is not faulty .. it is actually buggy).
There is more testing I can suggest but I think the above is more relevant.
What role does the Netgear have? ie is it modem or full modem and router.. in which case the TC would be in bridge mode??

Time Capsule slow internet with Linksys router

I has issues with slow internet page loads. I have a Linksys WAG325N router connect to Telstra ADSL 2 with a Time Capsule. I use two wireless network one broadcasted from Linksys and the other wireless network from the Time Capsule. When i'm connected to the time capsule i had slow internet page loads and the Time Machine backups fail.
When connected to the wireless network from the Time Capsule i get 10% to 30% packet loss when i pinged the Linksys router and 0% packet loss when i pinged the Time Capsule.
I then connected to the Linksys router then i has packet loss with i pinged the Time Capsule and 0% loss when i pinged the Linksys.
I used the Airport Utility and changed the "Ethernet WAN Port" from automatic to "10 Mbps/Full Duplex".
This seem to fix the problem. I think there is some issue with the port speed negotiation between the Linksys and Time Capsule.

The same thing is happening to me, exactly. Although my top speed is lower than yours (I'm on FiOS). Unplug it for a second, and you're back to normal. Otherwise, it will slowly and inexorably degrade until you have something worse than dial-up.
This is completely unacceptable, and it's far too typical of the current state of Apple's quality control and support that there is no official acknowledgment of this screamingly obvious and annoying problem, which happens every single time I use my Time Capsule, which is to say every day, and no recommended fix.
Sometimes I feel as if I could really hate this company!

Connected but Time Capsule HD & Printer Gone

Hello Everybody,
I setup a Time Capsule in my office that employees could start going wireless on our laptops. For the most part, the WIFI works great; however, the HD and printer sometimes disappear and then reappear several hours later without me adjusting any settings. During this time, everybody is still connected via WIFI. Everybody's MacBooks the most up to date and so is my Time Capsule so I don't know what the problem is. Can anybody help?

make sure TC firmware is 7.3.1 and Airport Utility is 5.3.1 and also check for any type of interference from other devices and TC location to other routers or devices.

Using the Time Capsule to print wirelessly to HP Photosmart C4480 Printer

Does anyone know how to set-up the Time Capsule to make it print to a HP Photosmart C4480 Printer wirelessly from a Mac Mini (Mac OS X 10.5.8) and/or a MacBook Pro (10.4.11)?
I've tried everything, at least I think so. I followed the manual, the help from the discussion forums, from trial & error, and from the Apple Store Genius.

When you say hooked them up.. what do you mean? As a wireless printer it should connect by wireless as a client to the TC.
But if you use apple names it might get lost. I would recommend you set all the wireless names to SMB standard.. short no spaces pure alphanumeric in the TC.
Also you might do better locking the wireless channels.

Replaced Airport Extreme router with Airport Time Capsule-now printer won't connect to network

I had no issues with connecting to the Airport Extreme. I have recently replaced the Extreme with an Airport Time Capsule (the new one that is 802.11 ac). All of my other products were able to detect the WIFI router and connected with no issue once I entered the password. However, the HP 2710 finds the WiFi router, allows me to select it but when I enter my password and click OK, it comes back after several minutes saying that it can't connect to the network. I checked the IP address and it's all 0.0.0.0 - it's won't establish an IP address either.

I understand that you're having issues connecting to your router. I would like to help!
I'd recommend powering down your computer. Once it's powered down, go to the printer and select Setup , select Network, and select. Restore Network Defaults. Power down the printer. Once it's all shut down, unplug the router power for 60 seconds, and plug it back in. After it broadcasts, power on the printer and computer, and reconnect to the wireless network.
