Time Capsule Trash - undelete deleted files

Not sure if this question has been answered as I could not find a thread relating to it. I recently deleted some files off my TC and needed to undo some deletions but realised that the files were nowhere to be found. What occurs with files deleted off TC (normal delete command using right-click, not secure delete)? They are obviously not sent to the Trash folder. Please help.

Welcome to the discussions!
The only way you might be able to retrieve the deleted files is open up the Time Capsule case, pull the drive (which will void the TC warranty) and place it in a separate enclosure. Then try data restoration software to see if the file(s) might be retrievable.

  • I have accidentally emptied the trash and deleted files that i was trying to put back

I have emptied the trash accidentally, deleting files that i was trying to put back! Can you help me to recover them?

I cannot recommend any specific data recovery software because I have not been in a situation where I needed it.  I am fairly diligent having my important data backed up (two copies) so this is not a problem for me.  Do look at Time Machine (one of my two backups) since it is very easy to set up and use.  Look through these forums for situations where others have had to recover data and see if they mention specific recovery software.
Do not take these remarks as my being condescending. I am simply stating the facts.  Try to view the price of the software as punishment for your faux pas.  We all make mistakes and I have committed my share, but not in data loss.
    Ciao.

  • My time capsule erased all my files, is it possible to recover any of it?

My time capsule erased all my files, is it possible to recover any of it?

None of free or lower priced utilities will get the files back. Disk Warrior might be able to get into the drive.
    http://www.alsoft.com/diskwarrior/
If still no luck, you will need to look into having a professional data restoration service try to get the files.
Unfortunately, no guarantees with either approach above since Disk Utility was unable to repair things and the file structure is likely corrupted.
    Good luck in your quest.

  • Can I use the available space on Time Capsule to store media files?

I recently bought Time Capsule and set it up to do backups of my iMac (Snow Leopard).
Since, the Time Capsule has a 1TB HDD, I decided to use the Time capsule to store media files. However, when trying to resolve a Time Capsule issue with the Apple Care technician, he informed me that storing media files on Time Capsule is not recommended. He suggested buying an additional portable disk to store the media files. Wanted to confirm if this is truly the recommendation for Time Capsule.

The Time Capsule was designed for Time Machine backups and that is the recommended use for the device.
If you have plenty of space on the drive, there is probably no harm in using the drive for other data, but as space becomes tight, there is going to be struggle between Time Machine and other files regarding space allocation.
But if you are storing your media files on the Time Capsule disk.....how are you backing up these files?
The advantage in having a separate drive for your media files is that Time Machine will back up both your computer and the separate hard drive. Then you have backups for everything when....not if....a drive fails.

  • TS1253 Once I save my photos to the airport time capsule; can I delete them from the computer drive?

Once my photos have been saved by the airport time  capsule can I delete them from my computer hard drive.

Please think about this for a moment.
If you move your images to the Time Capsule...and delete them from your computer's hard drive......then, the only copy of the images that you will have will be on the Time Capsule.
So, now your "originals" are on the Time Capsule....since you deleted them from the computer's hard drive to create more space.
When...not if....the Time Capsule has a problem and you cannot access your images.......where will your backups of your images be?

  • Accidentally I have deleted my Time Machine Backup but deleted files are in the Trash !

    Hi Folks,
Accidentally deleted my Time Machine backkups but all files are in the Trash. I am copying my files from Trash folder to another Portable Drive just incase I will not be able to restore my files as Put Back is not working because seems Time Machine backups is a part large database.
Is there anyway I can restore the files to Time Machine again? If there is, could you please tell me step by step ! If there is not any procedures, please advise me what should I do in this stage?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Time Capsule Can't delete a sparsebundle

i have a time capsule which i used to backup 3 macs. but having 3 macs eventually filled it up completely and now i am backing up the macs on other separate time capsules. but on my original time capsule, i find i still have the old sparsebundles for the backups of the other macs there.
i just tried dragging one to trash since it was huge (500GB!) and a window popped up saying preparing to delete, and then it said it couldn't delete it because some item 'bands' is in use.
how can i force delete this sparsebundle? am i forced to reformat the whole thing, even losing the backups of the single machine i'm still using it for?
    thanks in advance!

Plug your TC into your computer by ethernet.
    Change it to bridge mode.
    Update the TC.
Plug it by ethernet into your dad's TC LAN port.. to any port on your TC although by convention we use WAN.
Now check again when you connect by wireless to your dad's network.. or ethernet direct to your TC.. it should come up and be accessible.

  • Is there any downside to using a reference type library if I use Time Capsule and will do file management only from within Aperture?

Have done a lot of reading to get prepared to convert to Aperture 3 and have this question regarding setting up my library type.
I'm not a professional -just a heavy user hobbyist.
It appears that the major factors in using reference style is to backup the images with Time Capsule and always do moves or deletes from within the Aperture application.
If my architecture matters here's what I have that may be involved in photo management and editing:
iMac (latest 27" high power version with lots of memory)
Internal 2TB HD where the library is stored
External (FireWire) 2TB HD where the images are stored
External (FireWire) 6TB HD backup drive
In the future an iPad for remote work on images (when/if available) and a Mac laptop (for same remote use)
I see major downside issues to letting the library manage my files - such as inaccessibility (or awkward accessibility) to the images for other programs, and performance issues when the library gets large (thousands of images or 100+ gb in size)
The chief complaints I've seen regarding using a reference mode is the broken link issues created if file management is done outside of Aperture (adds, deletes, moves of files) and the inability to use the Vault function for backup.
One feature that I imagine I'd like to have is maximum integration with Final Cut Pro X and that's one area I haven't seen much on and would be interested to hear about if that integration is affected with the choice of managed vs referenced library types. (I like to produce film clips that are combinations of pics and video and want to be set up so that is done in the easiest fashion when working in FCP X)
I'm sure I've not seen all sides of this issue and would like to see some discussion around this question.
    Thanks to everyone contributing!
    Craig

Goody, Goody, you hit a few of my favorite subjects! Herewith some comments, with the usual caveats - true to the best of my knowledge and experience, others may have different results, YMMV, and I could be wrong.
I run Aperture on two machines:
-- 2007 Mac Pro with 2x2.66 GHz Xeon, 21 GB of RAM, a 5770 GPU, and multiple HD. I have about 11,000 images, taking up 150 GB. (Many are 100 MB TIFF, scanned slides)
-- 2006 Mac Book Pro with 1 2.0 GHz Core Duo, 2 GB of RAM and a 240 GB SSD.
    Two very different machines.
-- Aperture Libraries are all the same - Managed or Referenced. If Managed, then the Master image files are inside the Package, if Referenced, they are outside, and you can have any combination you want. Managed is easier, but Referenced is not hard if you are the least bit careful.
-- While the sheer size of an Aperture Library is not a big issue, the location on disk of the different components can have a tremendous impact on performance.
-- Solid State Drives (SSD) read and write faster than regular Hard Disks (HD) and, what is more important, empty HD read and write much faster than full HD.
-- Aperture speed requires a combination of RAM, CPU, graphics processing unit (GPU) speed, and disk speed. The more RAM you have, the less paging you will see. With enough RAM, the next bottle neck is CPU (speed and cores) and GPU speed. But even then you will still have to fetch an image (longer if you pull the full resolution Master, read and rewrite the Version file, and update the Preview and Thumbs.
    So what works?
-- RAM, RAM, and more RAM. 4 GB will work, but you will page a bit. 8 GB is much faster. On my old MacPro the sweet spot was about 16 GB of RAM.
-- Keep your Library on your fastest (usually internal) drive. Keep that disk as unloaded as possible. How do you keep it unloaded? Either buy BIG, 1 TB+ or move your Masters off onto another disk. The good news here is that as Master files are written only once and never rewritten, speed of this disk, as opposed to the disk that holds the Library, is not important. There is a one second pause as the Master is read into memory and, if you have enough RAM, that is it - the Master will never be paged out. If, on the other hand, you do not have enough RAM, and you do a lot of adjusting at full resolution, then the speed of the disk that holds your Masters will become very important due to paging.
-- I found that I picked up a tiny bit of speed by keeping the Masters on a dedicated disk. Thus, in your configuration, if you can dedicate that 2 TB FW HD to your Masters, you should see very nice performance.
Final notes on backups and archives:
-- One conventional wisdom is that you should make an archive copy of every image file before or as you load them into your system. (Aperture in this case.) This archive is then never touched or deleted.
-- An alternative approach is that you do not keep such an archive, but only the images that you have in your Aperture Library. And when you delete from the Library, you no longer keep a copy anywhere.
    I do the following:
-- Card to Aperture. Card is then kept at least 24 hours until all of my backups have run. (I use three - Time Machine, Clone, and off site.)
-- I do not keep archive copies. If I decide to delete a file, my only recourse is to recover it from Time Machine during the six month cycle of my Time Machine backups. Thereafter, it is lost.
There are merits to both approaches.
Hope this is clear, correct, and responsive to your needs.

  • Time capsule won't delete old backups

Time capsule working fine since months ago. After snow leopard upgrade started to give warning that not enough space is available. Delete old backup's option is on.

The Time Capsule was designed to work with Time Machine for backups. That doesn't mean you can't use other backup software to do the job, but Time Capsule is "relying" on Time Machine to perform backup maintenance ... like deleting the oldest files.
Because you are using a Mac with an non-Leopard OS, you will have to either rely on the backup program that you are using or self-maintenance. I would suspect that in order to delete the current backups, you would need to access the Time Capsule's hard drive directly through the Finder. You mention the connection fails. What exactly is the error you are seeing when attempting to access the Time Capsule?

  • Trash cannot delete file in use

I occasionally have troubles deleting files from the Trash because the message says that the files are still in use, even though I haven't got any applications open.
One of the main features that convinced me to upgrade to Snow Leopard was that it would say which application was using the file that was in use. However, since updating, the warning message hasn't changed since Leopard. Is there a preference or something I need to change to get this feature active?

Here is a [read on trash|http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/trash.html] that may help you. And, I don't remember Apple promising the feature your mention. [Read here|http://www.apple.com/macosx/refinements/enhancements-refinements.html].

  • How does Time Capsule handle the same files on multiple computers?

I'm a writer who works on my MacBook Pro, the family's desktop PC and soon hope to have my own Apple desktop.
Is it possible to have the most current document(s) available no matter which machine I'm on?
Does Time Capsule go to each computer, find the most recent version and back it up?
Does it even work with PCs?

    Sorry, but no.

Time Machine will backup any changes to each Mac hourly
Does it even work with PCs?
Only if you manually drag/drop or copy/paste PC files to the Time Capsule drive

  • Time capsule deauthorized many music files

I bought time capsule and after having lots of problems getting it working, my son (who works for apple) got it working by doing the initial backup via firewire cable (he said he didn't understand why
apple doesn't recommend this) every thing works fine...EZCEPT...now many of my music files have been deauthorized and there doesn't seem to be any way for them to be reauthorized, The help files relating to this topic are not available to read, what do i need to do? ALL my files have been legally obtained via iTunes or downloading a purchased CD.

Nope—all the files existed before the backup would have been created.
I restored from a backup I made March 1, 2014, I believe; all of the files now missing were ones I for sure had before then. But the date those files were created doesn't seem to affect their disappearence; I have files created before and after and at nearly the same times as the ones now missing that are still there.

  • Time capsule disconnects when accessing files

I set up the time capsule on my comcast business class internet. It also serves as my wifi router as well.I have been having issues when 7 users are connected to this wifi router and then when we try accessing files on it, it disconnects us and we have to reconnect to the wifi and then try to access again.
It has become a huge inconvience lately, and quite honestly I did not update to Maverick becauce I was nervous of the issues that would incur.
When I bought the time capsule, I wish Apple would have helped set this up as we purchased over $15k from them in equipment. I am just really regretting the coplexity of this and the fact that we can not access this time capsule remotely at all.
    NEED HELP ASAP!

How is the TC setup and what mode is it working in?
Your profile shows you are using Mavericks.. and we know Mavericks is having issues with accessing files on the TC.
    Then this line confuses me.
It has become a huge inconvience lately, and quite honestly I did not update to Maverick becauce I was nervous of the issues that would incur.
So you did update to Mavericks or not?? Do you have a mix of Mountain Lion and Mavericks?
Why are 7 people trying to access files on the TC?
The TC is not a NAS.. it is a target for Time Machine backups. If you are using it as a file store, are you also using it as TM backup?? That is likely to cause some issues.
If you spent that much money with apple did you ring their support and get them to talk you through the issues?
Keep hassling them if they are not helping you.. They have supplied you equipment that does not work.. you have the right to return it.
If we are going to be able to help.. spell this line out a bit more.
I have been having issues when 7 users are connected to this wifi router and then when we try accessing files on it, it disconnects us and we have to reconnect to the wifi and then try to access again.
Does that mean, when only two or three users are working it is fine? What is the tipping point?
How do you reconnect to the wifi?
Is everyone trying to access the same file, ie a company database??
