Time Capsule Turns Off

I am having some troubles with my time capsule. It has been working flawlessly for the last 3 months...until this weekend. Three times now, it has turned off at some point. If I unplug it and plug it back in, the front lights back up and all is good.
The switch has constant power and I did not have any problems with the network before this...
any ideas?
bk

This has just started happening to me as well.
I have a 1TB Time Capsule & over this past weekend it's turned completely off on it's own 4-5 times.
Unplugging it and replugging it boots it back up.
BK, any further news on yours?
Thanks,
-G

  • Time Capsule Turns OFF on reboot and wake up

I'm using the latest versions of everything on this iMac and AirTime Capsule. For the past few weeks I noticed that when the desktop wakes up Time Machine is OFF in System Preferences or when I reboot the Mac, Time Machine turns OFF also.
Reading other posts, I started to look for a com.apple.TimeMachine preference in the Library but I could not find any reference to that file.
It's annoying because I expect my stuff to be backed up during the day while working. At night, before the Mac goes to sleep, SuperDuper does a full backup on a different drive.
If you could help resolve this issue, I would appreciate. TIA.

Thanks for your reply. That's what I've been doing to delete in Library the TimeMachine plist file. I even lock after the first reboot the SysPrefs panel of the Time Machine to ON. Then on second reboot, Time Machine reverts automatically to OFF. Same thing the next day waking up after sleep. The Mac wakes up and Time Machine is OFF again.
I am puzzled and confused as to why it does this. Time Machine has worked superbly since last July, then around the end of December it started doing this trick. I update religiously my Macs whenever Apple Software Update tells me to, so I'm running now on this iMac 10.6.6 and on the AirTimeCapsule 7.5.2.
    Dazed and confused

  • HT3728 Time Capsule turned "off" and won't turn back "on"

My Time Capsule shut down last night--completely turned off--and won't turn back on. It felt warm, so I unplugged it overnight. I tried plugging it back in this morning and it still doesn't have power. I've also tried plugging it in somewhere else, and the hard reset as described on the Apple Support Website. But still no power. The green/amber light doesn't come on at all. Suggestions?

the power supply is cooked in its own internal oven bag..
It sounds like it is beyond warranty but if you have applecare on a Mac that will also cover the TC if it was purchased within 2years of the computer..
Otherwise a self - repair is possible or help from a repairer if you happen to live in an area.. to Apple it is a sealed unit and they will not help you.

  • My time capsule turns on and then turns off...

my time capsule turns on, then amber light is blinking and then it turns off. the whole story takes 15 sec. any suggestions? is this the end?

Ok, I'll dismount the harddrive and have a look how it behaves then. If it stays on I'll head for a power supply replacement.
This seems to be a good disassembly how-to:

Assuming you mean that you performed the repair yourself, it would seem that you either obtained a defective screen or you did some sort of damage when you replaced the screen. You can try asking for assistance on ifixit.com, a site dedicate to those attempting their own repairs, or you can take the iPad to a shop and pay them to try to correct the problem for you. Apple will no longer touch your iPad now that you've attempted your own repairs.

  • Why is it that every time I turn off my wifi on my phone my 3G dosen't work? Help :(

So every time I turn off my wifi  from my iPhone 5c  at home My 3 G Doesn't Want To Work? And a 1x keeps popping out?

Could be cause I just got my phone like 2 days ago. Lol and sometimes it has a mind of its own. Like when I'm trying to text it starts to push random letters and it will go home and then go in to my contacts and then a app with out me pressing anything. Like if it was a glitch or something?

  • How do I stop Firefox reverting to standard settings every time I turn off my PC?

I set up my preferred icons history, print, home etc in the places I like them yet every time I turn off my PC the next day they are back to the standard set up & I have to do them all again, more than a little bit irritating as it has never been a problem before & only started happening when I upgraded to 33.1
Things like this seem to happen every time there is an upgrade, it is getting to the point where after years of using Firefox I am seriously considering looking around for a new default browser.
As if to illustrate my point when I just restarted Firefox after installing the troubleshooter add-on all my custom icon settings are gone AGAIN.

  • Time Capsule Falling Off Network During Heavy Activity

This basic topic has been previously posted but keeps getting hijacked by digression. To clearly state the behavior; Time Capsule falls-off (disappears) from a WiFi network during operations where large amounts of data is being moved. This occurs regardless of whether the internal drive or a connected USB drive is the target. This is not an internet issue.
Set-up: Time Capsule is extending an 802.11 b/g/n network originating from an AirPort Express. Time Machine is currently off (because this issue has made it unreliable). The TC has a USB drive with my iTunes library and documents folder. There is one client cpu, a current model Macbook. All drivers and firmware report "up to date." Interface robustness has been both on and off. I have gone to 802.11n only and the problem persists.
The Time Capsule will sit on the network for weeks without issue if data is not being passed to it. When I copy large amounts of data to the TC or the attached USB drive it will vanish off the network until I do a cold boot of it (the TC). I will get a system network error of "DATA-1 cannot be written to" when it happens, which is understandable since the TC is in Oz. I have parked on Channel 1 which reports unused by my sniffer; I have also hopped to other channels but the problem persists. This is a hi-rise apartment environment.
This has been an issue since day-one with this unit and I have brought it to the Genius who could not get it to repeat after hours of testing.

I can't help directly -- just got mine last night -- but to bump your thread and get some clarification...
You say your USB drive attached to the TC has your "iTunes library and documents folder", do you mean literally your Documents folder, or just a folder with documents?
Are you accessing the Internet through your TC, or is it attached to your network as just a device, and you have another router/gateway? When you say "drops off", do you mean you cannot mount it remotely and that's the only problem, or do you lose Internet connectivity -- if it's your gateway -- or does the Airport Utility not see it?
If it's a mounting problem, I assume you cannot see either the internal or external USB drive. Have you tried it without the external USB drive? (I assume that may have been a difference when the Mac Genius tried it. Did you also take your USB drive and did they leave it attached for their testing?)
What about things like temperature conditions, etc? Perhaps if where you keep it is very hot and the Apple Store is very air-conditioned?
Just throwing out a bunch of ideas and questions that might help someone see the problem. Clarification always helps.

  • WIFI on my Time Capsule is off, and there's no way of getting it back on, nor of accessing my Time Capsule.  How can I resolve?

WIFI on my Time Capsule is off, there's no way of getting it back on, I can't connect to my Time Capsule anymore, and the reset button doesn't work.

Thanks for the help, managed to get it back up and running.  Some feedback:
    *  My TC was still under warranty, so I didn't want to open it up.
    *  I disconnected all cables from TC and Macbook, except the ethernet between both.
    *  Restarted TC, and WIFI went back up.
This leads me to thinking that what caused my troubles is:
    *  I had a USB hub connected to the TC, on which is a USB printer
    *  I had disconnected the USB printer from the hub to connect it directly to my Macbook (to make a scan of a document)
    *  When reconnecting the printer to the USB hub, the WIFI went down.
I think TC WIFI must be rather sensitive to USB connecting and disconnecting...
    Thanks once again !

  • Why do I have to reconnect to my Network manually every time I turn off my laptop? But yet it stores my password.

Why do I have to reconnect to my network every time I turn off my laptop? But yet it stores my password. It has been happening ever since I upgraded to OS X Lion. I have two default wireless routers I connect to (my home and work) and yet everytime I turn on my computer I have to manually select which network I want to join from the drop down menu at the top of my desktop. Any suggestions? I dont want to have to manually choose, it should just look for those two networks automatically and connnect to whichever one is available.

It was already set to Automatic......and still it doesnt connect to my network.

  • I lose my Wi-Fi network settings every time I turn off

Hello, and thank you for your time. Just bought my iPod Touch yesterday, and am loving it.
One problem I'm having, though. I can't keep the settings for the network I want to use.
I configured my router's network on it. Put in WEP and the security key. I was connected to Wi-Fi just fine, no problems.
Then I turned the iPod off. When I turned it back on, even though the iPod is configured with the router (which is on private network, so my "lovely" neighbors don't leech off it), my network disappears. My PlayStation 3 that I'm not using for a network appears every time I turn on and off. But, every time I turn the iPod on, I have to put in the information for the network I want to use (name, security, password) all over again.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Sorry if there's an answer here already and I missed it. Thank you.
    Walter

You need to select to "remember" the access point so it automatically reconnects unless by "private network" you mean that you're not broadcasting the SSID. If that's the case, it won't reconnect automatically-it's a feature, not a bug. My advice, broadcast the SSID and set a strong password. Hiding it doesn't do much for you from a security standpoint. Setting a 40 digit random password does.
If this doesn't work, do a Restore.

  • Time Capsule dropping off network after only a few minutes?

Right, I've had a good look through the forums and found a few similar issues to mine but none that are exactly the same or provide any answers, so I'll give it a go and see if anyone has a clue what is going on because I'm stumped.
I've got a new TimeCapsule which is connecting to my home network (through a belkin router), and for the first few days it worked fine. But ever since it's been acting up. To start with it kept dropping from the network and not showing up in either Airport Utility or Finder. Initially simply restarting it worked, but the dropping started getting progressively worse. I tried renaming the machine with a shorter title and no spaces, but the problem continued. Eventually it got to the point where the machine would just hang when switched on with either a solid green or solid amber light - no audible startup procedure or anything. Resetting the machine made no difference - sometimes the light would flash amber and sometimes it would do nothing at all, but neither did anything to the actual machine.
I left the machine off for a good few hours and switched it back on and it showed up in my system long enough for me to reset it and reconfigure it. Then as I tried to change the disc name to something short and without spaces it dropped out again and now seems dead as a dodo once more.
I have checked the local wireless networks, and it seems mine is using channel 2, which no one else seems to be. But I can't stay connected to the TC to change it anyway.
Ironically when it is working it's fine and I can access the files and everything. I'd be tempted to take it back tomorrow but I had moved a few files to the HD when it was working that I'd rather not lose forever.
    Any ideas?

    I got my puzzle here:
Time Capsule (Firmware 7.3.2) dropping internet connections (PPPoE) every 2-3 minutes, then automatically re-connect.
Time Capsule 500G - bought yesterday
ISP stability - 4 years, I've been using
Computers - PC (Vista), MBP (Mac OS X 10.5.6), MBA (Mac OS X 10.5.6) --- but seems not related to this issue. Even shut down the computers, TC still drops; No "Real Player Updater" found though...
I have to get back to my $55 Buffalo and it's running perfectly stable now...

  • Time-based turning off of bluetooth keyboard

I'm using an Apple bluetooth keyboard with my iMac. If I forget to manually turn off the keyboard, the batteries in it drain 20% overnight. Is there no setting that says: Turn off the keyboard if there's no activity for 5 minutes? I notice that Windows 7 allows me to do this, even for my Apple keyboard (since I'm running W7 on my mac). Thanks.

No, there's no announcement when it sleeps, only when it connects/disconnects.
    Here is Apple's description:
The Apple Wireless Keyboard requires just two AA batteries — one less than the previous model. And its intelligent power management system conserves battery life. So when you’re not using the keyboard, it automatically powers down. The instant you start typing, it turns back on. Use the on/off switch when you're away from your computer for a long time.

  • Finder shows wrong disk space (Time Machine turned off)

    Hi,
I have a disk space issue with my Mid '11 MacBook Air. The actual free space in my Hard Drive is much more than the space what Finder reports.
After trying almost everything i knew (Turned off Time Machine, used Disk Utility/DaisyDisk/OmniDiskSweeper), I have no success so it is starting to be annoying.

There may be a directory problem.  Try Verifying your SSD, per #6 in Using Disk Utility.

  • Time Machine turns off Computer

On two occasions, when Time Machine shows its about half way complete in backing up, when I come back to check on its progress, my MBP will be completely shutdown.  When I try to turn it back on, it takes a few times for it to actually turn on.  So what's going on?  Why would Time Machine be turning off my MBP?  Oh, and it doesn't complete the backup.

    javiergasca,
boot your MacBook Pro into Recovery mode by holding down a Command key and the R key as it starts up. Once the Mac OS X Utilities menu appears, select Disk Utility. On the left-hand side of the Disk Utility window, select your internal disk’s boot partition (typically called “Macintosh HD”). On the right-hand side, press the Verify Disk button if it’s not greyed out; if it is greyed out, or if it reports that errors were found, press the Repair Disk button. Once the verification/repair is completed, exit Disk Utility and select Restart from the Apple menu to restart in normal mode. Does it get past the black screen now?
