Time Capsule - username iMac's Sparsebundle temporarily unavailable?

TC appeared to be doing a full backup when first connected (used cable rather than wireless). Since then whenever I try to access TC it just says resource unavailable. Time Msachine tells me the latest backup was the date I did the first backup. Since then I keep backing up but still does not change the above message. Hope someone can help, thanks

If it helps I am getting the same message, I have reported it to Apple and they have someone working on it. Mine stopped backing up after having a new hard drive installed. I can however back up to the same time capsule from my laptop.

First, restart the MacBook Air and the Time Capsule. In most of the cases, this solves the problem.

Could that read " . . . could not access . . ."?  If so, try repairing your backups, per #A5 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting.
If not, or if that doesn't help, see #A1 there. Use the TM Buddy widget it details to copy and post the messages here.

Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the page that opens.
Select the System keychain in the list of keychains in the sidebar of the window. If you don't see the list, click the down-arrow icon below the sidebar.
Then select Passwords in the Category list at lower left. Click the Kind heading in the list of keychain items to arrange it by Kind.
Locate the AirPort Disk Password with the name of your Time Capsule. Double-click the item and check the box marked Show Password in the inspector window that opens. You'll be prompted for the administrator login password. Make a note of the AirPort password, then close the inspector window and delete the item.
Also delete any other AirPort DIsk Password items for that same Time Capsule, which may have had a different name in the past.
Quit Keychain Access and try again to back up.

  • HT3275 What if my error message is the following:  The backup disk image "/Volumes/********'s Time Capsul/****'s MacBook Pro.sparsebundle" is already in use. (I have redacted the name of the computer with asterixes)

What if my error message is the following:  The backup disk image “/Volumes/********'s Time Capsul/****’s MacBook Pro.sparsebundle” is already in use. (I have redacted the name of the computer with asterixes)

    This is a complex procedure.
Pull the power cord from the back of the Time Capsule
    Wait a minute or two
Plug the power cord back in to the back of the Time Capsule
This will fix the issue 98% of the time. If you are in the unlucky 2% category, more help is here from Pondini, the Time Machine guru:

  • Which do I set up first time capsule or imac

I purchased a new iMac and Time Capsule.  Which should I set up first time capsule or iMac?
I am also a bit confused about time capsule and "wireless" network.  Today my computers (mostly) macs but an errant windows 7 machine and an HP network printer connect to a modem/and receiver supplied by my carrier. Do daisy chain the modem to time capsule or simply us the time capsule as another device.  If it is another device does it create a second network.  If it is a second network can he two be seen from one machine. A netwoek novice

Just use your existing network to setup your mac first.
Once you have everything running you can setup the TC.. it should be set to bridge.. but I have to admit to still using old version 10.6.8 and a 5.5 airport utility.. but you can also load the windows version of the airport utility onto the windows errant.. you still have.. !! That version of the airport utility is a tool unlike the one in ML which is a toy.
Go to Internet tab, connection sharing.. select off, bridge mode.. update the TC.. then plug it into the main router. It will then work fine on your network.. but will not create a new network. It is merely a switch and AP with a nice hard disk inside it.

  • I want to hard line time capsule to imac so uverse router, modem, and wireless is the primary connection?

i want to hard wire time capsule to imac, so att uverse's modem, router, and wireless is the primary connection. i don't think the competing wireless features will play nice together.

If your goal is to provide Internet access to the iMac via an Ethernet connection to the TC ... and, in turn, have the TC connected by wireless to the Uverse gateway, then as you have already guessed, this combination won't work as the two routers are not WDS compatible. Your only option with this set of networking gear would be to connect the TC to the Uverse gateway by Ethernet.

  • HT3275 what about the red i error of "The backup disk image "/Volumes/USERNAME's Time Capsul/USERNAME's iMac.sparsebundle" is already in use.

The red i error message I am getting is not mentioned in this article.  This time capsule backed up fine for months before yesterday.

That is due to the rather embarassing nature of the fix.
Pull out the power cord from the TC.. count to 10.. plug in the power cord.
That fixes it in 98% of cases.

  • Can't back up to my Time Capsule from iMac.

Had to disconnect my Time Capsule from the iMac to troubleshoot an ISP problem.  Upon reconnect I am unable to back up to my Time Capsule via Time Machine.  I keep getting the following error message after the backup starts and immediately fails:  Time Machine could not complete the backup.  The network backup disk could not be accessed because there was a problem with the network username or password.  Open Time Machine preferences to select the network backup disk and re-enter the correct username and password."
The network name and password are fine, because I am connecting to it via iPhones and a MacBook without problems.  When I select my Time Capsule in preferences as the disk to use for backup, a window opens requesting the Time Capsule password, which I enter and then select "Connect" in that window.  Still, after the two minute countdown, the backup fails and I am back to square one.  Any assistance would be appreciated!!

OK, after posting my problem, I noticed the "More Like This" list.  Clicked on one of those and it said to rename my Time Capsule to take out the "apostrophe s" in the name.  That solved the problem!!

  • Time Capsule causes iMac to FREEZE

My Time Capsule is DIRECTLY WIRED to my iMac via an ETL VERIFIED phone line cable (I don't like wireless it's too slow and unreliable).  Even so, at the end of a backup everything freezes and I can't get the iMac to re-start or shut down in the proper way - I even left it overnight to run it's course - but it still remained in a freeze.  Also, the little clock symbol seems to be revolving more slowly than normal.  The only way I can get it all working normally again is to use the iMac power switch to shut it all down.  As we all know, this method of shutting down is not desirable.
When I'm then able to look in the Time Machine Preferences, there's no information about the Oldest and Latest backups as in this screen shot:-
Can anyone out here advise me, please?

It seems your suspicions are right about the "unknown SIGSEGV code 0".  I do run Adobe Bridge CS4, which I've used since it came out, and never had any problems using it.  What can I do now?  Here's a 'copy' & 'paste' of the relevant section from the Console (my Adobe bridge was not open at the time):-

  • ITunes library folder vanished from Time Capsule after iMac crash

    Hi,
Up until tonight, I've had my entire iTunes library stored on my 1TB Time Capsule (TC) which is accessed by a couple of Macs. After a forced restart of my iMac, the iTunes library on the TC has disappeared. I was in the middle of a iPhone 4 sync if I recall ...
I've run Disk Warrior over the internal hard drive on the iMac to no avail. Disk Warrior cannot see the TC drive. I've disconnected all users and powered the TC off completely and let it restart. Again, the folder on the TC which contained the iTunes library has vanished. All other folders / files on the TC appear in tact.
I don't believe I've deleted it as the remaining disk space on the TC hasn't changed. So I think it's still there but maybe it's corrupted?
Does anyone know if it's possible to run a detailed check over the TC hard drive to see if there is some directory damage which is affecting the iTunes library.
Any suggestions would really be appreciated. I do have a backup although it's not quite up to date.

  • Time Machine - Time Capsule Username/ Password Error

    Hey all,
I have this intermittent problem...It seems when I am not using my computer and Time Machine goes to do a backup it gets the following error:
Time Machine could not complete the backup.
The network backup disk could not be accessed because there was a problem with the network username or password.
I am running a new Time Capsule and a Mac Mini. I have tried both wired and wireless connections. I have tried all three types of username/ password options on the Time Capsule. I have even turned on guest access and access over the Internet via Bonjour.
Still it seems when I am not at the computer it gets this error. I am not logging out and the power option is set to never have the MAC go to sleep.
If I click ok on the error box and then go to Time Machine and click Back Up Now it will work (sometimes after two or three attempts). Time Capsule is running 7.5.1 software.
I have also tried deleting all reference to the Time Capsule in my password keychain and re-authenticated.
    Any ideas?

Last night I reset the Time Capsule to factory defaults (erased the data) and re-configured the Time Capsule again. The Time Machine initial backup completed in about three hours and all the hourly backups after that completed just fine. So it looks like it was working.
When I initially installed the Time Capsule a week ago there was a software update available that I did. What I think happened is it never completely upgraded some how. For instance, now in my first configuration screen it shows a MAC address for both the 5ghz and the 2.4ghz networks, that was never there before. A couple of other slight screen changes are there now. So I am thinking my software update wasn't loaded properly and the reset got it all fixed....
So it looks like I am good to go now.
    Thanks for the input.

  • Configure a new Time Capsule via iMac in a home non-apple WLAN

Hi, I have a new Time Capsule and want to configure it via my iMac. Aim is to use the TC in an existing WLAN (Vodafone) and to have it as a backup device in my home WLAN. When I start the TC it always turned to a blinking amber. This is regardless if I have it wire connected to the WLAN Router or not. I tried it also wireless with pressed WPS key.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Joe

When I start the TC it always turned to a blinking amber
This is normal, as the Time Capsule has yet to be configured with the correct settings to work with your existing network.  When the Time Capsule has been setup correctly, it will display a green light.
The Time Capsule needs to connect to your wireless router using a permanent wired Ethernet cable connection.
Specifically, the Ethernet cable would connect from a LAN <--> port on the Vodafone router to the WAN (circle of dots) port on the Time Capsule.
Use Apple's configuration wizard as noted in the Setup Guide to set up the Time Capsule to create a new wireless network.
Once that is done, you can go back in using AirPort Utility to turn off the wireless if you don't need another wireless network. In that case, the Time Capsule becomes a back up hard drive only.
Macs can back up to the Time Capsule using either a wireless or wired Ethernet connection.
