Time Capsule WiFi setup?

Hi. Just bought my TC and want to set i up without using an ethernet-cable. is this possible, if so how do i do that

You have to use ethernet for the TC to work properly..
There is a half unsupported method, Join wireless network.
Go to the wireless setup page and hold option key when you click wireless mode.. hidden options will appear..
Join will work.. it will give you super slow backup via double hop wireless. It will turn off all other use of the TC wireless and ethernet ports.

How can I set up mhy Airport Express to extend my Time Capsule wifi wirelessly
Assuming that you have the model A1264 or A1392 version of the Express, it must be located where it can receive a strong wireless signal from the Time Capsule to be able to extend it correctly.
A good general location would be a point that is about half way between the Time Capsule and other area that needs more wireless coverage.
You will use AirPort Utility on your computer to configure the Express. An iPhone or iPad could be used as well.
We can provide more help....if you need it....but we'll need to know what version of AirPort Utility that you are using on your computer....or whether you want to use an iPhone or iPad to setup the Express.

  • Time Capsule WiFi Connection Issues. Help please.

I'm hoping someone might have some ideas about what could have caused a connection problem I've had since this morning.
So I setup a WiFi network with Time Capsule a couple of weeks ago in order to do back ups and set up wirless printing but I was told I needed to put my wireless modem into Bridge Mode. So this morning I did that, rebooted the modem as instructed, made sure all power connections and the LAN connection between Time Capsule and my modem were securely connected. On my Mac I was able to log on to my Time Capsule WiFi network and access the internet (there was no wired connection to my Mac, I definitely connected through the WiFi), but I was unable to even log in to the network with my iPhone, Apple TV nor with my daughter's laptop. Only my Mac was able to connect. I downloaded Airport Utility and checked every setting to see if I need to share or enable other connections, I couldn't see anything.
Does anyone have any ideas on this? I'm not overy tech savvy although hands on I can usually figure things out fairly well and get them working but this has me stumped.

I presume it worked fine for the two weeks..
    until
but I was told I needed to put my wireless modem into Bridge Mode.
And that messed things up.. because you are now in the wrong setup on the TC.
I have to say.. a. what you were told ain't necessarily so.
And b. having messed up your existing setup.. need to change the setup of the TC so it will work.
I am not sure what modem router you have .. or what or how it works in bridge.. but guessing from your current settings..
You need to reset the TC to factory and start over.
The TC must be in router mode.. whereas with the previous setup it should have been in bridge mode.
You will find these settings on the Network tab.. in the utility.
I am just not sure if the internet should be dhcp or something else, ie pppoe, and that will depend on the modem.
I would also note there is absolutely nothing wrong with the setup you did have until you were talked out of it.
The modem can work as router with wireless on or off depending on the network.. and use the TC in bridge mode. It would create a wireless network and can be used for all your items just as well.

  • My time capsule wifi stops working several times per day

In the last several weeks, my time capsule wifi will suddenly stop working. Both the guest and main networks  go down. I unplug the time capsule and plug it back in and then it works again for a while. My internet is ADSL. The signal comes in through a Actiontec Modem and then by ethernet to the time capsule which broadcasts the wifi.

Not sure what you mean by "suddenly stop working".
Does this mean the power indictor light on the Time Capsule goes off and then comes back on when you restart the Time Capsule?
Or, does this mean that the power indicator light stays on, but devices cannot connect to the wireless network?
If you are using an Actiontec modem/router and trying to run both "main" and "guest" networks on the Time Capsule, that is creating an error known as Double NAT.  Sometimes you can get away with this on a simple home network, but the better option would be to run the Time Capsule correctly in the "Off (Bridge Mode" setting.
Unfortunately, the "guest" network will not operate correctly when the Time Capsule is in Bridge Mode.
If your Actiontec device really is a modem/router or gateway....as we suspect.....the Double NAT error can cause loss of one or both networks, Can you post back with the model number of the Actiontec "modem" that you have so we can check out the possibility that you have an incorrect setup?

  • Can I have my Time Capsule wifi and my Verizon router wifi on at the same time?

I want to have my verizon wifi on at the same time as my time capsules wifi but I don't know if it interfere.  There's an app that you can use as a remote for your cable box but you need to be on your routers wifi.
    Thanks,
    Zach

Suggest that you run a few speed checks on both wireless networks with a computer in same room as the wireless router using a site like www.speedtest.net on your browser.
If you are getting close to your plan speeds, then you likely do not have interference issues.
Most routers will scan to find the best available channel to use, so assuming that your equipment is working OK, things should be OK. Try to keep the Verizon router and Time Capsule at least 6-8 feet, or a few meters from each other.
This assumes that you are not living in a crowded situation like an apartment complex, where intereference is pretty much a fact of life due to the very limited number of wireless channels that are available.

  • Is there a way to see and have control over who connects to your time capsule wifi network?

Ok, have this question. Have a time capsule wifi network. Have the latest mountain lion on my mac pro. I know if you go into airport utility, and you click on the picture of my timecapsule it shows what clients are connected to my time capsule aka using my internet etc.
What I want to know, is there somewhere I can go on the mac where I can view who is connected to my time capsule wifi in more detail, see amounts of data they are using, and maybe even boot them off, or ban there computer from the network for a while if need be? Trying to assess what family members are using up all our data, and want to ban the appropriate offenders
Even if Mac doesnt have anythink, if you know any third parties from the app store that have an app that is like a "tap" on the top of your Mac that shows networking details, that would be great too!
    Thanks heaps!

Nope.. TC are not burdened with controls.. don't you know..
In fact you will find it hard to find a wireless router on the market that mets your specs.. but there is a great 3rd party firmware.. called gargoyle.. this can be loaded like an official firmware in a NETGEAR WNDR3800 which is a fairly cheap very good solid wireless router.. bridge your TC behind this router running gargoyle and you can set quota for all your family members (kids I imagine). Quota can be set for daily, weekly even hourly.. and you can apply throttles or qos.. none of these controls even exist in the TC.

  • Time Capsule WiFi stops when copying large files to Windows 7 (Bootcamp) using WiFi

I've got a new Time Capsule (Purchased less than a month ago) and a new Macbook Pro.
I copied a large set of files (large in QTY & some Large in size > 2GB) to my Time Capsule from a Windows 7 computure via a Wired connection.
When I access the time capsule from Mac OS X (10.8.2) I can copy all of the existing files to my Mac without any issue (Time machine also seems to be working fine).
However when use I Bootcamp (Windows 7 Ultimate) from my MacBook (The Time Capsule / Airport software for windows has been installed) I can only copy about 100 MB before the WiFi in the time capsule stops working. The WiFi doesn't just stop working for Windows, it stops working on the actual Time Capsule; I can tell because my phone and iPad both lose their connection and the AirPort Utility on the iPad can't detect the Time Capsule any more.
The issue is reproducable every time with the set of files I am trying to copy.
I've called Apple Support and they said there was nothing they can do to help (It took a long time to even convince some one that this is a supported configuration even though the Technical Specifications of the time capsule clearly state that Windows 7 is supported - http://www.apple.com/timecapsule/specs.html "For AirPort Disk with a USB hard drive - PC with Windows XP (SP3), Windows Vista (SP2), or Windows 7 (SP1)")  at which point they told me to take it to a Genius bar. I've subsequently done that and been told that they will not support the Time Capsule because I am trying to connect to it using Bootcamp.
From what I've seen on this forum some people previously had this issue and worked around it by downgrading the firmware. However, since my Time Capsule is new, I am unable to downgrade the firm ware (& it is the latest).
    Any suggestions?

No, it's not a Windows driver issue. 1) If it was a Windows driver issue the network copy would drop out on the Windows machine or fail rather than the whole Time Capsule losing WiFi connectivity for all devices in my house. 2) I am able to copy the exact same set of files, via the Time Capsule WiFi, when the files are stored on my PC which is plugged in to the Time Capsule via an Ethernet cable.
It's not a problem copying the same files from another location on my network with the MBP in Bootcamp therefore it' not a windows driver issue and it's not a network IP issue. It's a Firmware issue with the Time Capsule.
At best this is a bug that has been reintroduced in the latest firmware which is why the suggestions have been to downgrade the firm ware.
At worst this is a major security issue with the Time Capsule as copying a set of files from it's hard disk via it's WiFi, using a Windows computer, cause the Time Capsule to be subseptiable and result in a Denial-of-Service.

  • Just installed new Time Capsule, wifi now very slow, what amI doing wrong?

Just installed new Time Capsule, wifi now very slow, what am I doing wrong?

It's possible the reason it seems so slow, is that a backup might be in progress - and since it's the first backup everything on the disk is something that Time Machine is backing up and is being transferred across the WiFi at the same time as you're trying to use your Internet. So you're competing with Time Machine data flying across your WiFi along with your internet stuff. So if this is indeed what is happening (look at Time Machine to see if a backup is in progress), either pause the backup to a more convienent time or live with the slowness till the backup is done this first time, and after that you probably will not notice the "competition" on your WiFi. I like to schedule the Time Machine backups to late at night rather than once an hour (the default), but that schedule should be whatever you feel most comfortable with.
There is a handy free utility called "TimeMachine Editor" that you can get from http://timesoftware.free.fr/timemachineeditor/ that lets you create your own customized backup schedule. You can create several schedules to fit your working conditions. I've used it for several years with never a problem. I don't have anything to do with the company - just a happy user.
    Good luck...

  • Time Capsule WiFi hang-up, Freezes

I have the Airport Time Capsule 2TB, Model A1470 purchased Oct 2013. Whenever backup is configured, Time Capsule WiFi hangs up on both Upload and Download. Testing at speedtest.net repeatedly confirms this. It appears that TC can not do both, backup and provide fast wifi at the same time. I also switched out TC for an old Airport Express and the old Airport was faster and never hangs. If I delete the backup disc on TC and do not configure the TC for backup the problem goes away and the new Time Capsule works great.
Question: Has anyone experienced this as well? And, before I take this back to Apple are there any know solutions that will allow the backup to work while providing fast WiFi?
Note: I have connected a Macbook Pro directly to the cable modem and get the Internet speed I’m paying for, so the problem is not with the cable provider.

Test the TC plugged directly to the modem and your mac pro plugged into the TC by ethernet.. with wireless off.
Do you get your full internet speed?
I would test several times over a period of a week. Apple routers are having issues with some cable modems.. the ones usually cited are Motorola SB6121 6141 but there can be others.
Does the problem occur on ethernet?
The wireless problem can happen to everyone.. that is because Apple have no QoS so it is unable to differentiate backups which are low priority background stuff, and high prority movie streaming for instance. But for most people the actual TM backup which goes every hour is only copying files for a minute or two. If you have very long backups then check how much data is being backed up each time.
You could also use a utility to change the backup to once a day.. when you are not busy.. as a work around.
I do not think replacement will fix the problem if there is no actual speed issue.

  • Iphone not connecting to time capsule wifi

I recently got comcast connection via modem and it took me forever to connect it to my mac book pro (MBP), time capsule and iphone. Everything was working fine till yesterday, the modem was connected to the time capsule and my MBP and iphone were connected to the time capsule via wifi and life was beautiful. Yesterday, by mistake I disconnected the modem, plugged it back in but could not reconnect the iphone to the time capsule wifi. I hooked up my MBP to the modem, went to network> assist me> and was able to get the MBP to connect to the modem and also to the time capsule as wifi (like before). The MBP works fine as wifi, it will only connect to internet with the ethernet cable or as wifi, but not both. If I set the ethernet on the MBP, then it says "airport has a self-assigned IP address -------- and will not be able to connect to the internet" and gives the same message if I connect successfully to airport using assist me and reboot the modem, then it works fine as wifi but ethernet stops and says "ethernet has a self-assigned IP address -------- and will not be able to connect to the internet". Anyways, I am ok using ethernet or wifi on the MBP, but my iphone does not connect to the time capsule at all, it detects it but does not connect to it. I have tried putting in the IP address, subnet mask, router, dns and search domain as static into the iphone using the MBP airport settings. If I enter these as static, the iphone connects to the time capsule but there is no internet. I have the aiport utility app on my iphone which gives a green light for both internet and the time capsule. But my iphone has a 3G sign at the top right, no wifi sign at all. I also changed to airplane mode and then tried to connect to the time capsule, no luck there. I also reset the network settings in the iphone but no luck. From earlier posts on this, I also checked the channel settings, it is both 5 and 2.4 gHz, so no luck there as well. Please help. I need wifi on my iphone to keep my bill down. Thank you so much.

I just want to add that I can connect the iphone to wifi at the office. So the iphone hardware is ok. Please help

  • Time Capsule WiFi disconnects when a Fujitsu Siemen Laptop with b/g network

Time Capsule WiFi disconnects when a Windows Vista based Laptop with "b/g" network connects. When i use Macbook with "n" Network.
Surprising that TC and MacBook both from Apple can't stay connected when Fujitsu Siemens Laptop joins through WiFi.
I use a DSL Modem (Speed 1 Mbps) connected thru ethernet to Time Capsule on Bridge Mode.

Yes, n is better, but if you have it running on b/g/n (since you have to with your b/g only notebooks) the n is inactive. Kind of a waste. Others have resorted to adding another wireless router which one set to b/g/n and the other n-only.

  • IPhone will not find Time Capsule Wifi network?

recently updated my phone to the latest and greatest, but now it will not find my Time Capsule wifi network... even when standing right next to the capsule itself.
this does not seem to be a problem with an old base station... just the time capsule has disappeared off of the phone's network list. my macbook pro and apple tv continue to function normally... only the phone that is acting up.
    anyone have any ideas?

No immediate thoughts other than when I synced my iPhone with my Mac, which was set up to connect to the TC, the iPhone seems to be configured with all the right settings as if they had migrated across.
    Perhaps try a resync ?

  • Time Capsule WiFi or ISP modem WiFi

I have just bought a Time Capsule for my MacBook. Should I disable my ISP modem Wifi and use the Time Capsule Wifi or just run the Time Capsule as the back-up.

The Time Capsule wireless will run circles around most ISP provided modem/routers.
But...until we actually see some specifications for your ISP device, we can't say one way or the other which would offer the better performance options
Can you provide a link to the specifications for your ISP furnished modem/router?.

  • Time capsule wifi connectivity issues -apple tv 2 constantly disconnects from time capsule

Having ongoing issues with Time capsule wifi connectivity throughout house.
Apple TV II and PS3 losing wifi connection on a regular basis causing movies/music/gaming to be interupted.
Anyone have same issues and found a solution?

I bought a Time Capsule this weekend and was having a similar problem whereby my MacBook Pro would disconnect regularly from the wi-fi signal. Previously my MacBook Pro held connection permanently to the previous router fine. It was a pain as I couldn't leave things like SugarSync / Dropbox running as they kept disconnecting. I seem to have fixed it though by using AirPort to manually set the 2.4Ghz channel to a hard-wired value (Manual Set-up->AirPort->Wireless->Radio Channel Selection->Edit ....) rather than letting it automatically select the channel. I used iStumbler to choose a channel that was not congested in my area. I'm hazarding a guess that maybe when the signal went weak for a second, it changed the channel when set to automatic and so knocked out any connections.
    Well, it worked for me.
