Time capsule wil not alow iphone to connect by wifi.

My iphone can not go WIFI from my time capsul. When i try to connect i gett the message "could not conect to my network"
How do i fix it?
Johnny

Set the 2.4ghz network to a new name.. I suggest TC24ghz. (name should be short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric).
Test the channels, 1, 6, 11 in reverse order.. ie 11 is usually the free one.
Test with WPA2 Personal security and a short pure alphanumeric password say 10 characters.
No luck remove the security and try it.
No luck take the TC back to Apple for testing. Take your phone with you. Ask apple to setup the two.

  • Time Capsule will not recognize physical Ethernet connection

I recently purchased a Third Generation 2TB Time Capsule (MC343LL/A). Last night, I attempted to utilize the Time Capsule's internal Base Station to create a new wireless network for home usage via both AirPort Utility on my MacBook, and upon failure, additionally with the AirPort Utility app on my iPhone 4 . After using AirPort Utility to initialize the Time Capsule's primary settings, I was then met with an error upon restart of the Time Capsule, stating "Problem 1 of 1: Ethernet Unplugged". Enter the issue, as the Ethernet cable is in fact physically connected to the WAN port on the back of the Time Capsule. Subsequently, this results in the infamous flashing yellow status LED on the unit, and no network creation. Now, if I take that exact Ethernet cable end and plug it into my AirPort Express' (M9470LL/A and MB321LL/A) they recognize it. An older D-Link wireless router that I have kicking around also recognizes said Ethernet cable and connection, as well as both of my MacBooks (MB402*/B), and my Apple TV (Second Generation). I have attempted to both hard reset and soft reset the Time Capsule a myriad of times, and powered my cable modem on and off an equal number of times. All to no avail. And yes, I have tested all of the above with a plethora of different physical cables. Any and all ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

In your normal setup.. is the TC connected via a wall ethernet port directly back to the modem? Have you plugged the TC directly into the modem with a short 1M patch cable?
We do see occasional instances of gigabit not exchanging auto speed info correctly with fast ethernet. Somewhere you need to be able to lock the speed at one end.. so the auto speed is removed.
That is not possible in the TC.. perhaps the modem offers some way to lock the speed.
Putting a switch inbetween is often the way to fix the problem.. which is exactly what you are doing with the dlink router.. they correctly auto-negotiate the speed. Can you please check if the dlink is 10/100 which speed it linked at. If it linked at 10mbit I would say there could be issues with the WAN port of the TC.

  • IPhone 4 & iPod Touch can connect to Time Capsule, but not Internet

My family and I have an iPhone 4, iPhone 3G & iPod Touch. Our WiFi comes from a Time Capsule. My Macbook Pro can connect to the WiFi and get online, but the iPod & iPhones can only connect to the Wifi, not actually get online.
We some issues with our ISP last week, which took some time and some messing with the settings on Time Capsule to resolve. At one point, Airport Utility asked me if I'd like to switch to bridge mode...I'm not sure if that ever happened or not, to be honest, and don't know how to see if I'm in bridge mode or not (or even what that means, really).
With my iPhone 4, I can successfully connect to the wireless network, but the icon in the top left of the screen stays on 3G (unless my service drops in my house, in which case it shows the WiFi icon but won't let me connect via Safari or any other apps).
With the iPhone 3G, it does connect, but doesn't ever show the WiFi icon.
With the iPod, it says it connects, but doesn't ever show the WiFi icon. I get the error "Safari cannot open the page. The error was: Operation coudl not be completed. Invalid argument."
Does anyone have any idea what I could do to resolve this?

I fixed this on my own. How did I do it?
    1. Reset Time Capsule to factory settings (via Airport Utility)
    2. Renamed my WiFi network
    3. Restarted my router
Everything's fixed. I've seen this problem all over the Web but no solutions, so hopefully this will help someone.

You can, but how are you going to back up those other files?  When (not if) your Time Capsule fails, you risk losing them.  See #Q3 in Using Time Machine with a Time Capsule for details.
Then can i access these files only on the time capsule without connecting it?
Not sure what you mean.  You have to connect a computer, either via Ethernet cable or wirelessly, to read or write to the disk.

  • Older Macbook connects to Time Capsule, but not really

Problem: My wife's Macbook (Intel Core Duo) is able to connect to my new Time Capsule, but it quickly loses its connection. It doesn't really disconnect though - it still says that it is connected with full reception, but there is no internet, or time machine, and I can't even ping the router.
The router logs show that she is still connected though, because they don't say "Disassociated with station" until she turns airport off.
There are definitely a lot of wireless networks around here, but I don't think interference is the issue, since many other computers are working fine. Her computer can connect to some of the other routers just fine. She could also connect to my old router just fine.

    Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
When that happens, if you open the Network panel of System Preferences, select the AirPort connection item on the left, click the "Advanced" button, then the "TCP/IP" tab, do you see reasonable values for the several fields?
It might help to reset the connection settings on your Mac using these steps one at a time until it works again:
    1) Use the AirPort menu bar item to turn AirPort off, then on again.
    2) In the Network panel of System Preferences delete the AirPort item from the left column, then add it back.
    3) In the same panel as (2), define a new location and see if you can make that work.
    4) In the same panel, select the AirPort connection item, click the "Advanced" button, select the "TCP/IP" tab, then click "Renew DHCP Lease".
    5) In the folder /Library/Preferences ( not <yourhomefolder>/Library/Preferences), move the folder SystemConfiguration onto the Desktop, then restart your computer. See if you can now make your AirPort connection work.
They may not help, but they'll only take a couple of minutes to try. Before you try these, note all your network settings, because the latter steps will destroy them.

  • Time Capsule Will Not Connect to the Internet

I would appreciate any help or suggestions with my Time Capsule problem. We have a 1TB Time Capsule, in all of 2010 it worked great. We had 2 Mac Books backing-up to it daily, never had a problem. We purchased an iMac this month and I migrated the setting from one of the Mac Books onto the iMac, no problems. However, now the Time Capsule will not back-up either the iMac or the other Mac Book. The Mac Book that I migrated all the information from hasn't been turned on since the migration. Yesterday, the Time Capsule no longer allow us to connect to the internet. I contacted my ISP to ensure internet service was active and plugged the exisiting Mac Book (we still use) into the cable modem and was able to use the internet. This morning the TC wouldn't allow audio streaming to an ATV. Any ideas on what to do to correct the problem?

I'm good with erasing all former back-ups on the Time Capsule and starting fresh with the iMac. Please tell me how.
o Open AirPort Utility - Click Manual Setup
    o Click the Disks icon
o Click the Disks tab just below the Disks icon
o Click the Erase button in the center of the window
The Quick Erase option will be fine for your purposes. This will only take a moment or two.
When you are ready to backup the iMac,
o Connect it to one of the LAN <-> ports on the Time Capsule using an ethernet cable
o Open System Preferences (gear icon) on the dock
    o Open Time Machine
    o Click Select Disk
o Click on your Time Capsule to highlight it
    o Click Use for Backup
The backup will begin in a few minutes. Allow a long time for the backup. A good time to start this is late at night so you can let the backup run overnight.

  • My Time Capsule does not work with existing WiFi

Following a question solved on March 24 by LaPastenague, but gone bad again.
    Apple AirPort Time Capsule
I felt the need for a physical backup of my data, as I would not completely trust the different clouds. I use, and have used Dropbox for 4-5 years and are very satisfied with that, but I am still not sure if or when a political lunatic will shut off the internet.
I purchased the Apple AP Time Capsule 2T, because all my other stuff are Apple, and that it's wireless. My old backup is Maxtor 300 GB.
Since we stay 2-3 weeks on two locations, one in Norway and one in Sweden (two different countries) we must use Mobile Broadband 4G, cables or fibre connections are useless for us, and we don't have it up to the houses. I have one mini router for each country, we bring with us iPhones, iPads, iMac, Apple TV, APExpress. When we pass the boarder I change the mini router, and the system continues working perfect on the WiFi, except the APExpress that needs to be reconfigured,  but then it works.
The APTC was difficult to make working as it would not accept to be in an existing network, but with good help from the Apple Community, LaPastenague, with forcing the TC connect to the APE with Ethernet cable in bridge mode, ref "My Time Capsule does not work with existing WiFi" from March 24, the problem was solved and all gadgets worked together in a perfect harmony, until we changed location.
Now, as I have my second WiFi network, and the APExspress is reconfigured, it's like the TC thinks, I am the base boss here, I am not taking orders from APE one more time, and it simply does not work, not only that, it fluctuates all the time.
I have a slight feeling that the two WiFi bands are making the trouble as during the configuration of the TC sometime the last figure 6 and 7 pops up, and that has something two do with the two different 2,4 and 5 GHZ bands
So, I am curious if you have any idea ?
I am thinking of returning the TC if I don't make it work now, but how do I delete all the data that's on it?

I can deal with the last question first and easily.
I am thinking of returning the TC if I don't make it work now, but how do I delete all the data that's on it?
Open the airport utility .. go to the disk tab and select erase.
When you select erase you will get mulitiple options.
Quick removes the file table but does not delete the files,, it takes 2min or less.
A Zero out data is the secure way,, by writing 0 ie low level drive format.
    It can take several hours..
7 pass will take a week.. not recommended..
35 pass erase is ridiculous.. it would take a month.. put an ax through the TC. It is quick and better.
Now, as I have my second WiFi network, and the APExspress is reconfigured, it's like the TC thinks, I am the base boss here, I am not taking orders from APE one more time, and it simply does not work, not only that, it fluctuates all the time.
The fact that it did work and has now failed might point to faulty unit.
The only way to tell is reset it properly to factory and start over.
Universal Factory Reset.. any model TC or AE.
Unplug your TC/AE from power or turn off at the power point.
Hold in reset. and power the TC/AE back on..  all without releasing reset and keep holding in for about 10sec. (this is often difficult without a 2nd person or a 3rd arm).
Release it when the status light flashes rapidly. If it doesn’t flash rapidly you have missed it and try again.
    Note..
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
TC/AE will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations of the router.
No files are deleted on the hard disk in a TC.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.
Generally having multiple wireless AP should not cause problems.. but it is better to set channels manually.. so it doesn't go beserk rotating channels.
Remember to keep all names short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
Sadly though the Apple routers have no logging now and no SNMP and almost nothing to help diagnose a problem, so if it continues .. take it back to apple.. they have given you no other method of fixing it.

  • My airport time capsule did not set up successfully, and then status light flash amber

    Hi, Guys
I am the first time user of the time capsule, please help how to proceed?
I have set up the first time and my airport time capsule does not set successfully, then I try to reset to factory setting. After this, although I use the ethenet cable to connect the router to the airport, the status light flash amber, always, even after the reset.
Also, I can see that airport time capsule base station from the wireless network when airport is plugged in. However, when I want to access to it.

Thanks for your guidance, but the product is really anoying. First, I am sure that the airpor utilities is 6.3.
and I also follow your instruction that to set the IPv6 as local link mode. But still get the same error as mentioned in my first post.
Therefore, I have tried to use the bridge mode but could not find it, and therefore still can not set it up successfully, even though I reset the factory again(press the reset button 5 secconds at least).

  • I am using SURPLUSMETER :) I am also using Apple Airport Time Capsule as my Router that is connected to my Satellite dish Internet Modem ... Now on the Surplusmeter I have the option for PPP Modem . Ethernet Port , Airport , Network Card ,

I am using SURPLUSMETER I am also using Apple Airport Time Capsule as my Router that is connected to my Satellite dish Internet Modem ... Now on the Surplusmeter I have the option for PPP Modem . Ethernet Port , Airport , Network Card , & Adaptor .
Which one can I use properly to monitor all the wireless Devices in my hous

Actually, none of the options will do what you are looking for it to do. That is because, this application only monitors the traffic from the device it is hosted on. That would also mean that you would have to run a copy on each computer that will access the Internet on your network; note their individual usages, and then, combine them to get an idea of the total usage.
However, if you are only interested in the amount of Wi-Fi traffic that only your computer is seeing, then the "AirPort Network Card" option would be the correct choice.

    1) are you sure a reset holding the reset button will not delete my data?
Absolutely sure.. There is no connection at all.. reset is only the router side of the TC.
For the hard disk to be erased you need to access the airport utility disk page.. request erase and confirm the operation.
    2) I can access to time capsule by ethernet but I am not able to input the corret setting by myself
    Thank you again
I am uncertain why if you have access you cannot change settings.. but that is why you reset things so any of those problems should be fixed.
Here is the Apple info on reset.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3728
And here is the quote from the horse's mouth so to speak.
Factory default reset: Perform this reset if you wish to repurpose the AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule and want to remove all personal profiles and settings first. This reset resets the device to its state when you first purchased it. Data stored on internal or external hard drives connected to the device will not be erased. If you choose, you may manually erase the hard drive using AirPort Utility.

  • HT1178 air time capsule is not accepting external hard drive content in back up

Own a mac air and have an external seagate hard drive. Bought airport time capsule and want to include or transfer the seagate content to the airport time capsule. I used the seagate drive as external hard drive but want the content to be available in the airtime capsule. When trying to generate back up (while seagate is connected) it only inclydes the content on the mac air flash memory. In the air capsule menu I do see the seagate but I don't believe it is excluded from the backup? Again I want it included in the back up.
    Thanks!

The list is backwards.. anything on the list is excluded.. it has to be off the list to be included.. by default external drives are excluded.. you must remove it from the excluded list to include it.
Please note.. sharing content of an external drive via a Time Machine backup is not going to work.
Time Machine is designed to create an exclusive virtual disk on the TC for that particular computer.. although other computers can access it .. it is specifically designed to be difficult.. nor are files in formats that can be used directly.. the file has to be restored to the computer.
Time Capsule is not designed as a NAS and usage of it that way is often going to lead to problems.
Read the info in Pondini how best to avoid the worst aspects of that.
    Q3 here http://pondini.org/TM/Time_Capsule.html
Remember if you share files from the TC they have no backups and Time Machine cannot backup network drives.

If you migrated all the info from time machine to your new MBP. The TM will usually ask to connect to the old backups.. sorry I am not sure is this what you want to do.. Personally I think you start a fresh backup.
BTW Time Capsule does not do anything.. it is a dumb hard disk in a box.. it is TM that does everything.
Look at B5 and B6 here about connecting to your backup.

  • HT3728 since Oct 25 my time capsule is not working properly. I enter the time machine to check my backups and the only thing I see is balck screen on every single day since I put it to work on my house. Any ideas on what's going on?

I am having problems with my time capsule.
It's not backing up... if I enter the time machine, all I see is a black page, any day I look, since the day I bought it.
Was not like this before Oct 25...
Any ideas on what's going on and what should I do to make it work again?

Check the USB cable first to make sure that it is operating correctly on another connection.
You may need to use a powered USB hub with the drive since the USB port on the Time Capsule is not a high powered port like you have on your Mac.
You may need to use the powered hub even if the hard drive has its own external power supply.

  • Time capsule does not appear in shared devices

All of the sudden my Time Capsule does not show up in the shared devices. It's all up to date, it is working fine as a router and internet connection works fine. It also show up in the airpot utility and the light is green however it does not show up on the shared devices so I cannot access the data folider anymore.
Furthermore Airport utility indicates that the disk is damaged but I cannot repair it because I cannot access it.
Any ideas? (beside doing a reset which I have already done)

That is bad.. the light should not be green unless you told the TC to ignore the problem.
A damaged disk has to be replaced.. if the SMART has gone off or is showing as bad or no capacity then you need to replace the disk (or if under warranty.. the whole TC).
    How old is the TC?
Model number from the base A1xxx helps.
You can try doing an erase from the airport utility if the disk shows up at all. But if SMART has gone off the disk will need replacement anyway.
If less than 1year return to apple for warranty replacement.. and if you have applecare on a computer it will cover the TC for up to 3years although the rules are strict.. so check.
See instructions for removal of the hard disk.
    http://www.ifixit.com/Device/Apple_Time_Capsule_Model_A1302
Certainly if the TC is older than 3years.. it might be better to consider replacement. Certainly replacing a hard disk could be just short fix until the power supply also goes.
