Time Capsule With My Macbook Pro

I am planning on buying the 1 tb time capsule and I am wondering on if it will be sufficient to cover the entire house, From what I hear they are capable of getting a good range but have the ability to be expanded with the airport express. I am in a 6500 square foot house and need it all to be covered! It would be great if I could also have the basement covered on top of that, So could you tell me the range your getting and the best place to place it eg top floor, main floor or basement
Basically will cover around 8400 square feet alone if not how many other air port express units will I need to buy

Mark,
There are other factors other then space to cover to take in to consideration such as are your walls and ceilings concrete? Is your studding metal? How many floors are in your house? These are all very important. Also if you have an older Macbook Pro pre Wireless N note that the signal will not be as strong because it will not be able to take full advantage of the N technology. I would suggest at least 2 Airport Express' to work alongside your Time capsule to guarantee that you are getting maximum coverage throughout your house. Feel free to let me know if you have any questions. Good Luck.

  • Time Capsule with new MacBook Pro

I recently purchased a new MacBook Pro and synced it with my old computer. How do I get it to connect to my Time Capsule to pull old files? It wants to start a new library under the new computer, but I need files from my old computer on my new one.

    From your profile.
Your old TC.. is more than old.. it is ancient.
    Time Capsule 802.11n (1st Gen),
I mean like seriously from bygone era.. and very likely to not appreciate even more load than it already has. I hope you are planning for what happens when it finally bites the dust.. they tend to go rapidly .. like one day it works.. next it is over.. all over.
I am looking at the option of picking up a new USB 3.0 external drive (e.g. Toshiba Canvio Basics 2TB or Slim 500 GB) and plugging it into the (unused) USB port of the Time Capsule for my MBP Time Machine backup.  Will this work?
Yes it will.. but slow.. very very slow.
I imagine that MBP Time Machine setup will show 2 drives to back up to and I would simply select the second/USB drive as backup.
    Correct.
If this setup works, I am also wondering if I should do the initial backup via USB 3.0 without the Time Capsule intermediary to speed up the process.  My Time Capsule doesn't sport a USB 3.0 port, but the new MBP and USB drive will.
Sadly no, that is not possible.. Time Machine does not work the same way on network drives cf local drives.. you just have to live with the very slow backup.
So of course this is also impossible.
Also, can I switch back and forth between using Time Machine using 1) Time Capsule with USB drive connected for wireless backups at home and occassionally plugging the 2) same USB 3.0 drive directly into the MBP for on the road backups?
But you can buy a second USB drive and take it with you.. you can setup two different locations for backups and TM will recognise when the USB drive is plugged in.
You could also use CCC and create a bootable drive image.. which will get you backup and running in a few minutes cf TM which can takes several hours of absolute brain beating. CCC backups means you are more likely to recover files than simply using one backup utility. You can also use CCC to the USB drive at home.. now and then.

  • Using Time Capsule with multiple Macbook Pro accounts

I have had a 500 GB Time Capsule for a number of years, using it both as a router and hard drive.  I recently added a 2TB Time Capsule, which I plan to use exclusively for storage and the 500 GB Time Capsule for the router and to store the Time Machine backups.  When I only had the 500GB Time Capsule, I could switch between users on my Macbook Pro and still have access to the data that was stored on the Time Capsule without having to log the original user out.  I am finding that with the 2TB Time Capsule, that if I switch users not only do I have to log out the orginal user, but I also have to disconnect that user from the Time Capsule.  Is there anyway to setup the Time Capsule where I will not have to do this, as it is very tedious and time consuming.
    Thanks in advance.

In the 5.6 utility there is an option to disconnect all users.. this should fix it in one go.
Download and install the 5.6 utility.. it has far superior controls to 6.0 which is more a NOUN utility than VERB.
A number of issues were introduced with Lion and 7.6 firmware on the TC..
You can try going back to 7.5.2 firmware although the later Gen4 TC seem to not allow themselves to go back earlier than 7.6.
The older and simpler TC.. might be better as a file store.. Open it up and put a 2TB disk in it.
At least if that works.. well may as well use it.

  • Como accedo de mi mini iPad el disco duro de mi time capsule? Mi Macbook pro no enciende.

Como accedo desde mi iPad el disco del time capsule? Mi Macbook Pro no enciende y necesito accesar el disco del time capsule desde mi iPad.

Hi I was using disk utility, right now my mac cannot read any internal drive even the original, I test both drives the original hd and the ssd. So I took the mac with a technician to try to fix it, he said that the flex sata cable is bad, so I am going to replace it, unfortunately he does not have it in stock as soon as I get it I will try to use the ssd, I know that is working right now I am using it in the USB port.
Why do you think sata III is not the problem?
    Thanks.

  • HT1176 Initial Time Capsule backup on MacBook Pro that doesn't have an Ethernet port

I just got a 3TB time capsule and am trying to backup my MacBook Pro. The initial process is very slow, but my MacBook doesn't have an Ethernet port. How can I connect the time capsule to the MacBook Pro to make the initial backup go more quickly?

A very good investment to make would be......

Why Apple chose to leave off the most important port in networking is a mystery.

  • Time Machine back-up (via a Time Capsule) on a MacBook Pro

Can I create a Time Machine back-up (via a Time Capsule) on a MacBook Pro using Snow Leopard as the OS and then upgrade my OS to Mountain Lion (a few days later) to continue using Time Machine?

then upgrade my OS to Mountain Lion (a few days later) to continue using Time Machine?
I am not sure what you mean by "to continue"
You can continue.. but upgrading is not required "to continue"
Often you will have issues though. It will create a very large backup, due to the new OS. And going back to Snow Leopard might become impossible.
I think personally it is better to have a backup of your machine before upgrade .. and keep it separate to later backup after the upgrade.
You can also do a disk image of the computer running SL to external drive just using free edition of superduper or even disk utility.
Upgrade installs are never as good as a clean install btw.. !!

  • Migration Problems with Time Capsule and New MacBook Pro

Hopefully someone on here can help with with this problem I'm having. I just bought the new 13' MacBook Pro this week from the store and I no longer have my old MacBook Pro. I have a Time Capsule with complete backups of my old MacBook Pro and I also have the internal hard drive from it as well.
I had installed the beta version of Mountain Lion on the old MacBook Pro and the new one still has Lion.
The problem is that every time I have tried to use the Migration Assistant (and I've tried 3 times now) my files and applications are getting messed up.
iPhoto won't open. It says that it needs to be updated but when I check to update it it says that there is no update needed.
I'm seriously about to beat my head against the wall because every time I migrate the data it takes about 12 hours. I'm thinking at this point that it might be easier for me to just swap out the internal hard drives in the units because it is possibly an issue with the OS' and wait until next month to try migrating to the new drive again after Mountain Lion is officially launched.

    Bob,
I appreciate your honest and prompt response. I was VERY SPECIFIC when I told the sales rep I was hoping to use the Time Capsule with two different MacBook Pro's on different subnets (one is behind a firewall on a router, one is directly connect to a WAN side IP with no firewall) and the sales rep made a point of saying that the dual band feature would facilitate this connectivity which left me with the impression (obviously wrong) that the WiFi features of the time capsule could be used to communicate with multiple Macs regardless of their own networking configurations. (I have been configuring fairly complicated networks for 20 years and only bought my first Mac two and a half years ago; the second Mac is only six months old; the third will be bought next month.)
This isn't the end of the world for me... it does require reconfiguring my network and doing a lot of port tunneling for the box outside of the firewall in order to bring it inside as well as giving up some remote access redundancies (which were based on the ability to connect to both machines using VNC software which is port specific which means that it needed separate WAN side IP addresses).
Overall I love the Mac approach compared to the nightmare that was (is) Windows (although I do also run an Ubuntu Linux box just to keep me honest). That said, your sales reps do your products a HUGE disservice when they give glib and incorrect answer to what was, I believe in my case, a very specific and precise question.

  • Can I restore a memeo auto backup created in Vista on a time capsule onto a Macbook pro?

I have a pc running vista sp2 and using Memeo auto backup software but backed it up to a TimeCapsule (we also have an iMac and a Macbook Pro in the house). The pc has now developed an HDD error and I'm thinking of replacing it with a MacBook Pro but I need to recover or restore all the files (.docx; .xls and winmail files plus loads of .jpgs) to the new MacBook Pro. Does anyone know if I can do this? I'd rather not have to buy another windows based pc. I've checked on Memeo's web site and support areas but can't seem to find an answer. Thanks.

I've never personally done this, but I'm qute sure you can.  After all, this would be one method of migrating from the MacBook to the MacBook Air (with the assistance of Migration Assistant).

  • Time Capsule crashes my MacBook Pro

    Hi,
I have just got back from a shopping trip with my shiny new Time Capsule. I have it set up as my wireless base station and am connected to the net. Problem I am having is that when Time Machine starts preparing to back up my MacBook Pro crashes and will not relaunch finder so I have to hold the power button down to turn off.
Why is it doing this??? Has anyone else had this problem??? How can I get my new shiny toy to work???
    Any info greatly received!

My time capsule worked great up until the May 1st update Time Capsule Update. A grey curtain comes down on the screen and a warning in several languages shows up and I have turn off my MBP. I am very frustrated with this problem and I can see I am not the only one:

  • What is the best method for a quick disconnect from time capsule on a Macbook Pro Retina?

Just bought a Macbook Pro Retina and want to attach Time Capsule portable disk. Do I need to go to Finder everytime I want to take my notebook and eject the harddrive?

    Quote from Bob Timmons:
"Normally, the TC icon will mount on the desktop during a backup and un-mount at the conclusion of the backup. If the TC icon still happens to be on the deskop, then you would want to right-click on the icon and choose Eject, or simply drag the icon to the Trash to do the same thing."

  • Just plugged in Time Capsule and one MacBook Pro works fine on WiFi while the other MacBook Pro and iPad 3 keep disconnecting. Any ideas?

Additionally, the wifi icon at the top of the screen has an exclamation mark on the MacBook Pro that doesn't connect. We've tried restarting the machine, the Time Capsule but nothing has helped.

Just called Apple Support and it turns out we had the settings wrong. We're all set now!

  • Airport/Time Capsule - Slow via macbook pro wifi but fast via wired iMac

My wired imac that connects to the time capsule reads about 17mbs. But when I do the speed test that is connected wirelessly it runs at 2mbs. does anybody have any clue on what I am doing wrong? or why the speeds are so slow via my macbook?

    KenRN wrote:

i'm not sure you're doing anything wrong. for starters, a hardwired (gigabit 1000 mbps) connection is way faster than wireless-N (at best 300 mbps).
you could try if changing the channel your wireless network is broadcasting on brings about a bump in speed. you might be suffering from _*wireless interference*_.
perhaps one of your neighbor's wireless networks is interfering with yours. download iStumbler and note the channels of the other networks in your vicinity. select a channel that is as far away from those as possible.

  • Getting an error 150:30 message on CS4 after migration from time capsule to new MacBook Pro

Getting a constant error message... deleted the files stated in the forum and tried to run the LicenceRepair but nothing is happening... ran the .py file in teminal but still getting the error message... My MacBook is running OSX 10.9.3

Sorry, but Apple's Migration feature doesn't work with Adobe applications.
    1. Use the Cleaner tool to remove what you copied onto your computer:
Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6
    2. Install CS4 from your original install discs, or from your back of the CS4 install files.

  • Is there any way to connect time capsule to a MacBook Pro directly via USB. I have a large amount of data that I want to back up and it is taking a very long time (35GB is taking 3 hrs, I have 2TB if files in total)...)?

Perhaps via USB. I have a large amount of data that I want to back up and it is taking a very long time (35GB is taking 3 hrs, I have 2TB if files in total)...? I want to use TimeCapsule as back-up for an archive which is curently stored on a 2 TB WESC HD.

No, you cannot backup via direct usb connection..
But gigabit ethernet is much faster anyway.. are you connected directly by ethernet?
Is the drive you are backing up from plugged into the TC? That will slow it down something chronic.. plug that drive in by its fastest connection method.. WESC sorry I have no idea. If ethernet use that.. otherwise USB direct to the computer.. always think what way the files come and go.. but since you are copying from the computer everything has to go that way.. it makes things slower if they go over the same cable.. if you catch the drift.
