Time Capsule with Xbox 360

Fellow Apple Enthusiasts,
I have a bit of a dilemma in that I live in a house that has my wireless router is far away from my xbox 360. I am trying to get xbox live working on my xbox and have a Time Capsule to do that. Is there any way I can connect my TC to my xbox using an ethernet cord, then have my TC act as a wireless router to my wireless router? I am looking to avoid getting the $60 xbox wireless adapter or lining a 100ft ethernet cord to the wireless base station.
Thanks

Is there any way I can connect my TC to my xbox using an ethernet cord, then have my TC act as a wireless router to my wireless router?
If the other router is another TC or AirPort Extreme or Express, then yes. If not, your other option would be to consider using Powerline adapters. These adapters take advantage of your home's electrical circuit to create a pseudo Ethernet one. You can then place an adapter at the location of each router.

  • Time Capsule with Xbox 360 Live

    Hi,
I just bought a Time Capsule and it works perfectly except that my NAT type on Xbox Live is now set to strict instead of open. It takes forever to join a online game so it's really annoying me.
    This is my setup:
---> Modem ---> Wire from Modem to Time Capsule (in WAN port) ---> 1 wire from TC to PC and 1 wire from TC to Xbox 360
My PC is running on Windows 7 and I'm using AirPort 5.5.3.
I've tried pretty much all the tutorials I could find online, but unfortunately none of them seem to work. I've set connection sharing to 'share one public IP-address', enables NAT port mapping protocol, added the Xbox Live ports in the Port Mapping Assistant, and my Xbox is using the IP which I set in the mapping assistant.
Has anybody got an idea what I should change to get my NAT type to open? Thank you in advance.

Does your ISP allow pppoe connections?
If so you can setup the 546 in bridge mode.. just use the internal setup wizard, choose bridge, and finish the wizard. Then in TC choose internet tab and for connection type use pppoe and put in your ISP username and password.
This is perhaps the best method. But it depends on the ISP using pppoe which is common in some places and rare in others. For instance in Australia where I am, all our ISP provide pppoe, and most do pppoa as well. In UK and many places in Europe, they use pppoa, which cannot be bridged to a router. So you must bridge somewhere else or use a different technique of handling the problem.
The problem with the 546 in router mode, is that it uses cone nat. This starts to get complicated but some games depend on port forwarding of UDP protocol packets. You can indeed setup port forwarding or upnp in the speedtouch to handle this, but it still fails. There are special commands required to allow port forwarding through NAT.
    See this thread.

Although it relates to a different model on a PS3 the basic issue is identical across all the thomson modem products.. and I am very pleased to finally be able to offer a solution. I worked hard with people who actually owned the box to track down the problem and find a solution.

  • Please help: connection issues (ATT, Time Capsule and xbox 360 live)

I am having near constant issues with my home network, so I am hoping to tap in to the collected knowledge of the internets to help sort things out.
Main issue: daily/hourly internet disconnection. Now, my 360 wireless adaptor can't even see the network. Ugh. Basically, I am hoping someone could give me the "best" configuragtion (ie settings for network, Time Capsule, 360 and/or wireless adaptor) for my current set-up.
    My set up:
LinkSys modem from ATT (in bridge mode)-->
    Apple Time Capsule (router) -->
Mad Catz 360 wireless network adaptor -->
    Xbox 360
I have spent some time looking through the forums but keep running into conflicting recommendations and nothing I have tried so far seems to have helped. Thanks (in advance) for the help.

So, you must have somehow reconfigured the 2wire to perform as a simple modem, even though it is a full fledged modem/router combination. I've see the 2wire, but never configured one, so I can't offer a lot of help there.
Was there a particular reason why you configured the 2wire as a bridge when you could have simply configured the TC as a bridge to work with the 2wire? In other words, the 2wire would do the PPPoE service along with DHCP and NAT.
Maybe you tried it this way and something didn't work?
We've seen a number of posts from users who are having issues with the TC doing the PPPoE service. I just wonder if you are not betting off letting the 2wire do what the ISP intended it to do.

  • How to optimize Time Capsule for Xbox 360

I just recently bought a new Apple 2TB Time Capsule to replace my router and I've noticed since then, my Xbox 360 has been having problems. My friends will invite me to a party or game and sometimes it says session no longer available and the same thing happens to them when I invite them. Are there some settings I need to enable?disable for my Xbox to function properly on the network? And would I be able to configure these settings for two systems? I sometimes have one of my buddies come over and we'll just camp all night in my basement playing Xbox and he has the same issues as well. And my internet connection is just fine because the Xbox and Capsule are in the same room and we just recently upgraded my internet to a 50mpbs connection from Time Warner Cable since it had good reviews in my area and we couldn't get FiOS in my specific area.

Is the modem you have a pure cable modem or has TWC supplied you a combined modem router??
If you are using the TC as your main router, then xbox has issues because it requires a router that conforms to Vista standard upnp. The TC does not.
Apple don't even use upnp in their routers. So you need to open all the ports manually for the xbox to use. Just look it up.. xbox issues with airport routers will give you hundreds of hits here.
    AirPort Extreme and xbox 360
Unfortunately using 2x xboxes on one internet connection makes upnp essential.. it will not work without. That means you need a router that is specifically xbox compliant. You can use the TC in bridge to that router.
That is why it is often easier to use the ISP supplied modem router now, or buy your own if that is allowed. Most of those will be xbox rated, since upnp is universal standard except in Apple world.

  • Time Capsule and Xbox 360

Just got a Time Capsule 2tb, need to hook to my linksys router wrt54gs and be able to stream to Xbox 360 using Connect360 software installed in the system preferences on a mac running Mac OS Server 10.4.11. Help How do i get this done? right now the TC light is just blinking amber.

Hello ShelbyWeiss. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
How do you have the Time Capsule (TC) configured in your current network? That is, do you have it physically connected to the Linksys router or completely separate? Is the TC configured to join the Linksys' wireless network or to create its own? Is the Linksys the main router connected to the Internet modem or is the TC performing this roll?

Help. I am in my dorm room with my TC plug into the wall with my computer wirelessly gaining internet from it. I've heard that XBOX will NOT connect to a TC wirelessly. I called and gave the MAC address of my xbox to campus internet services and they registered it for the network..
i tried logging my xbox on but it still wouldn't go. i'm going to try later tonight.
but if my TC is on bridge mode, its just relaying an assigned IP to my computer from the university? does that mean that i should be manually putting my IP address, primary and secondary DNS numbers, and gateway addresses into my xbox? or should i set it to "automatic"?
would I use the IP address that my computer uses for my xbox? or do you think TC would automatically assign the xbox with the IP via ethernet?
i'm sorry, i don't really understand what bridge mode means.
i just want to play Call of Duty

    Hey kole71,
That particular model of Plantronics is compatible for PC gaming but not Xbox 360. Plantronics does have some headsets that work with 360, and I've attached a PDF of the chart found on their website. Hope that helps!

  • How can I use my time capsule with Ethernet cable? How is it also possible to use time capsule as a normal external hard drive?

My problem is that I don't know how to use my Time Capsule with Ethernet Cable, as when I use wireless it is really slow.

Make sure that there is an Ethernet cable from one of the LAN <-> ports on your modem/wireless router to the WAN port on the Time Capsule
Click on the Wireless tab at the top of the page
Change the setting for Wireless Mode to Off (I assume that you do not want the Time Capsule to provide a wireless network since you already have a wireless network)
Next, click the Internet icon at the top of the screen, then click the Internet Connection tab
    Connect Using = Ethernet
Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode)
Click the Update button at the bottom and wait 30 seconds for the Time Capsule to restart and display a green light
Then, you must power off your entire network...all devices....in any order that you want
    Wait a minute
Start your modem/router first and let it run a minute
Start the Time Capsule and let it run a minute
Keep starting devices one at a time until everything is powered up
If you are using Time Machine for backups, you will need to reset the connection because you have changed the way in which the Time Capsule connects to your network
Open System Preferences (gear icon) on the dock
    Open Time Machine
    Click Select Disk
Click the Time Capsule to highlight it
Click Use for Backup or, it might be Use Disk
Now you can connect your Mac using an Ethernet cable to one of the LAN <-> ports on the Time Capsule to back up using Ethernet. Be sure to turn off the wireless on your Mac before you start the backup.
If you want to backup using wireless, disconnect the Ethernet cable from the Mac to the Time Capsule and turn on the wireless and connect to your wireless network. Your computer will now backup using wireless.

  • How do I connect my time capsule with a Lynksis wi fi netwotk?

How do I connect my time capsule with a Lynksis wi fi netwotk?

You cannot extend or repeat a non-apple router in an apple router..
You must plug it in via ethernet and then setup roaming network (or if you like a completely separate network.. makes no difference from the TC point of view). TC is in bridge mode. That is router bridge not wireless bridge.. I gave the info on the other thread you are running.. very confusing when you ask in multiple threads.

Look at the more like this. On the right column next to the post.
Load airport utility for windows.. which will also load bonjour for windows.
In windows explorer type \\TCname or \\TCipaddress (replacing with the actual values.. names with spaces will give you trouble so change all names in the TC to SMB compatible or actual ip address).

How can I see the old backups of my previous Macbook done by Time machine in a Time capsule with my new iMac? I've changed from a Macbook to a iMac because that one stopped working and I cannot use it anymore. I've been able to import all the data of the last backup of the Macbook when setting the new iMac, but I cannot access now to the old backups of the Macbook and there are information that wasn't in the last backup and I would like to recover. Get v5 utility and then you can hold down the option key and select the right mode.
If you have lion, just install it.. For ML follow this.
How to load 5.6 into ML.
    1. Download 5.6 for Lion.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Click to open the dmg but do not attempt to install the pkg.. it won't work anyway.
    2. Download and install unpkg.
    http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
Run unpkg on the desktop.. it is very simple.. drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. drill down.. applications utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.
You cannot uninstall 6.1 so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. so just ignore the toyland version.. the plastic hammer.. and start using 5.6.. a real tool.

  • HOW TO SET UP time capsule with time machine?

I have not been successful in setting up time capsule with the time machine, can someone give me steps to follow?

What part are you having problems with?  You need to make sure File Sharing is enabled on the Time Capsule (which is done in AirPort Utility).  Then you just connect to the Time Capsule either wirelessly or via ethernet cable and when you go to Time Machine setup your computer should recognize your Time Capsule as a valid storage for Time Machine backups.

  • How to set up time capsule with BT Infinity

how to set up time capsule with BT Infinity

The easiest and sure way is to use bridge on the TC as the method of connection. The TC then becomes a device in your network and gets its IP from the main router that I presume BT supply.
    Method is,
    1. Plug the TC WAN port into the BT supplied modem by ethernet.
    2. Plug the computer you are using for the setup into the TC by ethernet.
    3. Run the airport utility .. go to internet tab on the top menu..
In the bottom option, Connection Sharing choose off (bridged mode)
    4. Go to the wireless page and setup wireless connection as you like it.. using whichever band you want. And make sure security is set to the highest setting, wpa2 personal. Put in a decent wireless passkey.
    5. Press the update and fix whatever else the TC will show as needing fixing.. usually security stuff.
    6. You can then disconnect the ethernet and connect by wireless if you want. Any port on the TC will now be a LAN port, including WAN.
This is assuming BT supply a wireless router with built in vdsl/other type of modem. If so you normally will not be able to bridge the modem, unless BT are using pppoe authentication which they haven't in the past.
If you really need to use the TC as a router then you will need to work out an alternative method. You can double NAT by placing the TC in the DMZ of the BT router if that is an option. It is not without issues in general.
