Time Clock Malfunction?

For the last two nights my clock had to be reset, up one hour, on my G4 (QuickSilver 2002). What's up?

Hi, John -
According to what Grant posted (which sounded eminently correct when I stopped to consider it), the network time server doesn't quite work that way.
Apparently the network time server makes not attempt to determine the location of the person using the site - the person could be anywhere in the U.S., or, for that matter, anywhere in the world. I suppose it would not be too difficult for the server site to analyze the ISP point for the user, but that would add to the programming needed, and unnecessarily complicate a simple function; given today's mobility, it could also result in an incorrect (for the user's needs) result.
The simple solution for such services is to provide the time hack in Universal Time (i.e., in what used to be called GMT), and then let the settings in the user's computer adjust from that to set the computer's clock to display the correct local time.
This would mean that two items in the user's computer would need to be correct, in order that proper adjustments can be made from the Universal Time hack -
• the Time Zone setting.
• whether Daylight Savings Time is in effect.
If either of those is not correct, the displayed clock time will be wrong.
Since you have the correct Time Zone set, the behavior you describe sounds proper - it shows the correct time when "Daylight-Saving Time is in effect" is checkmarked (since that is true, at least at present in the U.S.), but does not show the correct time when that is not checkmarked.
I won't need to use OS 9 for more than a few days so no big deal.
If you plan to be using both OSX and OS 9 on the same machine for a while, be sure the Time Zone setting in each OS is set correctly. The two OS's do not share that info; if that setting is different in the two, then the displayed time will change when you switch from one to the other as a boot OS.

    I have an iPod nano model MC062LL (Version 1.0.2 PC) and the time/clock is an hour behind. I have set it properly (Settings->Date & Time->Time) but whenever I reset the iPod (which I do occassionally), it reverts back an hour.  BTW, my Time Zone is properly set to *Boston*.  I jog with this iPod so I'd like to have the proper times that I run.  Any help would greatly be appreciated!

  • X121e randomly wake up from suspended status and real time clock error

    Hi all
    Previously I considered my x121e suffer from overheating issue and causes real time clock error (RTC). However, after more testing and investigation, I believe the problem is related to other hardware issues and I like to hear people opinion before sending the laptop back to Lenovo.
    The machine goes into suspend status either pressing the power button or closing the lid from Windows7 (clean install) without problem. However, it would wake up itself randomly, "beep" twice and screen shows RTC and CMOS checksum error. This happen more often when I am holding the machine (i.e. some movement/vibration). I wonder:
    - Is it the RTC battery problem, cause the RTC to wake up the machine?
    - Other hardware failure?
    The laptop has a clean OS installed/recovered. Latest 1.16 Bios installed. No USB or memory card attached. Ram replaced and not the cause.
    Please advise
    Howard

    Hello,
    I am unsure; you would have to contact Lenovo directly and find out how they handle this situation.  They may want the ThinkPad X121e back so they can run thorough diagnostics on it, just in case the problem is something else.  That way it gets fixed the first time.

  • Busy timer clock in middle of screen, common solutions not helping

    I have a Blackberry Tour 9630 with the 5.0.0.591 OS, and I am consistently seeing a busy timer/clock in the middle of my screen. It's usually there for a 10-15 sec and seems as if the BB is "thinking". I have tried the common solutions such as closing apps with the close command, doing a battery pull, etc, and have continued to have this issue. Any suggestions?
    If it helps, here are the third party apps I have installed. I've put an asterisk next to the ones that need to stay open (or at least I think they need to stay open?):
    - FourSquare   1.8.4
    - GoogleMaps   3.2.1
    - *Memory Booster   3.3
    - *MissingSync   2.0.4.301
    - OpenTable   1.0.2
    - *RingScheduler   1.0.30
    - *Skydeck   3.20
    - The Weather Channel   1.5
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Are you storing pictures ON the BlackBerry device or ON the Media Card?
    Look at Options > File Free. What is the number stated there?
    Likewise, you might not think you have a lot of apps running, but if you open the Application Switcher, what's there?
    Is the browser on an active page?
    Try opening the browser > options > Cache Operations > Clear Cache.
    Now do a reboot: With the BlackBerry device powered ON, remove the battery a few seconds and then reinsert the battery to reboot.
    After the device is backup, give it five minutes to settle all the data activity down.
    Now, see if you keep having the hourglass lag?

  • Error: 0271: Real Time Clock Error - Check Date and Time settings.

    Hello all,
    I have lenovo T430s laptop that is configured with Bitlocker encruptions and TPM PIN entry. I don't think that has anything to do with the error msg I am getting but here it is. Error: 0271: Real Time Clock Error - Check Date and Time settings.
    Press Esc to continue or F1 to enter setup. I am unable to get into BIOS or even the login screen for Windows 7.
    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks to everyone for the help.  Just want to close this out.  I had a IBM/Lenovo technician here today and he replaced the CMOS battery.  Upon the change, the computer is fine being reconnected to the dock (the three times I tried it).  So it has been resolved with the battery.  Surprised by the incompatibility claim because I am not having issues now.  Wondering if it's just a USB 2.0 vs. 3.0 thing (and Lenovo trying to sell more peripherals, of course).
    Thanks!

  • How do I get the time clock to stop circling on an undelivered email?

    I created a small movie using quick time player. I attached it to an email to send to family through Safari. The email won't go through. The time clock has been circling for 4 hours. It's slowing down my email and I can't do anything to stop it. What do I do?

    It may be that you are getting lots of emails or messages?
    I suggest you go into mail settings and system settings and see what your various alert noises are set as and see if any are the same as the one you're hearing. Then you can figure out whats causing it.
    Alternativley you may have a stuck keyboard button? This produces a chime/ ding every time it is pressed if it cannot be used in the program ou are running or on the desktop.
    I also assume you are NOT talking about the Startup Chime?

  • 2 Boot Camp Issues: Time clock and Display resolution

    I have windows vista ultimate installed on a separate partition from OSX on my primary internal HDD. I have the newest release of bootcamp (1.4). I have two really weird issues. The first issue is when I restart after using windows and boot up into OSX, the time clock is always different (usually about 7 hours behind) and I have to go in and reset it each time. This normally wouldn't bug me except that I find myself using Windows (unfortunately) a lot for certain programs.
    Another issue is that when I am in windows my primary display goes to 1900x1200 (the native resolution), but my other display that I have plugged in, a Samsung SyncMaster 245BW, only goes to 1024x768 (the highest setting i can choose), when the native resolution should also be 1900x1200, like it is in OSX. I've tried finding drivers and the samsung website says that the windows generic plug and play drivers should work fine. Is this a bootcamp/hardware issue or a samsung/driver issue?

    There is nothing that you can do about the clock issue other than what you are already doing. OS X stores the time in the hardware as UTC (GMT) time. Windows stores the time in the hardware as your local time. 7 hours slow at this time (daylight saving time) indicates that you are in the Pacific time zone.

  • Software protection with real time clock

    I'm trying get a secure real time clock information for licensing purposes ,I tried hardware dongle like hasp4 with RTC but I was not able not interface the dll and kept coming up with errors.Can anyone suggest a better of getting real time clock information or any available product which I can use.
    I even thought of using the system clock but it's doddle to reset the system time.
    Help is much appreciated.Thanks in advance

    One possibility might be to force the computer to access an external time server of your choice and check the time from there.
    This example shows how to read the time from a NTP server using LabVIEW.

  • Datediff for Time Clock

    Hello.  I am having a problem putting my mind around how this works.  I am working on creating a time clock. When a person clocks in each day an entry is inserted into the database.  As they continue to clock in or out that day entry in the database is updated to log the time/date stamp up to 6 entries.
    EmployeeID
    TimeClockID
    TimeEntryReg1
    TimeEntryVac
    TimeEntrySick
    TimeEntryHol
    TimeEntryOther
    TimeEntryOtherReason
    SPROverride
    SPROverrideDate
    TimeEntryReg2
    TimeEntryReg3
    TimeEntryReg4
    TimeEntryReg5
    TimeEntryReg6
    10
    1
    11/12/2009 5:51:31 PM
    NULL
    NULL
    NULL
    NULL
    NULL
    NULL
    NULL
    NULL
    When I call the query I can get the cfoutput to loop through each record and display each of the log in/out's.  What my problem is is that I am not able to do a datediff to figure out how many hours/mins that employee has worked between the clock in and out. I get an error every time that says my date is invalid. I am guessing that it is because the variable is unable to determine which record is which since there are multiple records.  Could someone PLEASE help me get my head around how to display the time worked correctly?  Thanks.
    <table width="800">
    <cfoutput query="selectPerEmployeeTimeClockEntry">
      <tr>
       <td width="50" nowrap>
        #DateFormat(TimeEntryReg1, "dddd mm/dd")#
       </td>

       </td>
       <td width="50" nowrap>
        #TimeFormat(TimeEntryReg6, "hh:mm:ss tt")#
       </td>

    Hello.
    Thanks for your responses. I made the database modifications so that the clock in entries are seperate from the clock out entries as see below:
    Employee ID
    TimeClockID
    TimeEntryReg1IN
    TimeEntryReg2
    10
    1
    11/12/2009 17:51
    11/12/2009 19:51
    10
    2
    11/12/2009 20:17
    11/12/2009 22:17
    However, I am still not able to get the data from the database to display in columns nor can I get the times to calculate in the number of hours/minutes there are between clocking in and out.
    I appreciate any help you can provide.  Thanks.

  • Best Practices Pseudo-Time Clock Configuration

    Friends,
    I Find  for a manual of best practices for configuration PSEUDO_TIME CLOCK GET VPN.

    Hi,
    GET VPN uses time-based anti-replay (TBAR), which is
    based on a pseudo-time clock that is maintained on the KS. An advantage of using pseudotime for
    TBAR is that there is no need to synchronize time on all the GET VPN devices using NTP.

  • Time clocks and CATS

    Hi,
    We have a requirement to capture clock-in/out from Genesis time clock system and process time in SAP. We want the generated time pair to be stored CATS database so that the mangers can edit / approve the time punches via CATS_APPR_LITE transaction
    Since I am new to Time management I need help with the following:
    1) What is the format to upload the data using SAP report RPTCC106 (loads table CC1TEV)
    2) How is the data from CC1TEV then loaded to TEVEN table?
    3) How is the time pair formed? Is it possible to store the paired form in CATS database instead of infotype 2011?
    Thanks

    1) What is the format to upload the data using SAP report RPTCC106 (loads table CC1TEV)
    The format is the same as the structure of the CC1TEV table. Please look at this in the SE11/SE16 transaction
    2) How is the data from CC1TEV then loaded to TEVEN table?
    The standard SAP program SAPCDT45 is run to transfer data to TEVEN. In case any rows error out during the transfer, the information of these rows is stored in the table CC1REM. The CC1TEV table is completely purged of all information (correct or incorrect) on a non-test run of the SAPCDT45 program.
    3) How is the time pair formed? Is it possible to store the paired form in CATS database instead of infotype 2011?
    Time pairs are formed during time evaluation run only. Yes, it is possible to import the data into CATSDB (the central CATS table) through the use of a BAPI CATS0002. In this case, however, the CC1TEV and TEVEN tables will be rendered unusable. You will also have to create an attendance type for use with CATS.

  • Unable to communicate with time clock across VLANS

    I have a situation where i am installing SGE2000Ps to replace my old switches and configuring VLANS. The time clock will not communicate across the VLANS. If I unplug the network cable and plug it back in I will get two successful pings. If i use a PC configured with the same network settings as the time clock and plug it into the port for the time clock it communcates fine. Have any one come across this problem?

    Hi Wayne,
    Thank you for contacting Cisco Small Business forum.
    I am sorry that you experience this issue.
    I have a question for you.  What is providing clocking on your network?
    The switch operates only as an SNTP client, and cannot provide time services to other systems.   So, you can configure it time manually by going:
    System > System Management > Time > System Time;
    To avoid any issues on your network. I would suggest to use one common SNTP server for all of your network devices. On the switch you can configure it here:
    System > System Management > Time > SNTP Settings.  If you do not have SNTP server on your network, you can use publicly available one.
    Let me know if that helped.
    Sincerely,
    Alena Patterson

  • How to implement 24 Hours Time Clock?

    Hello All,
    We have a requirement to implement 24 hours time clock. with the text box and up and down arrows to increase the hour/minute/second. Much similar to windows time setting appears below the clock when you double click the time shown in windows startup bar.
    Could you please tell me any pointer, to implement this behaviour in OA framework.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    yup thats redundant, actually this is what i tried:
    Co code(process request)
    OARawTextBean xx = (OARawTextBean)webBean.findChildRecursive("item1");
    String ij="<script type=\"text/javascript\" src=\"/OA_HTML/muk.js\">"+"</script>"+"<script language=\"javascript\">"+" Clock(); "+" </script>";
    System.out.println(ij);
    xx.setValue(pageContext,ij);
    Content of muk.js
    var dateform
    speed=1000
    len=28
    tid = 0;
    function dodate()
    f.date.value=new Date();
    tid=window.setTimeout("dodate()",speed);
    function start(x) {
    f=x
    tid=window.setTimeout("dodate()",speed);
    // for some reason on some pages this crashes netscape
    function Clock()
    document.write('<FORM name=dateform><input name=date size=')
    document.write(len)
    document.write(' value="Clock: Requires Javascript"></FORM>')
    start(document.dateform);
    But clock is not getting started! It gives some error in f.date.value, on normal html page it works fine. You can copy paste my previous java script in a plain html file and check. i don't get y on a oaf page its giving error !
    Lets see what gurus in java script and oaf present here can say....!
