Time Code Sync Problem

I am new to final cut, and have been having a very tough time with a project that I am working on. In short, I am attempting to create a music video, and I began by laying the music tracks down first. As I go to cover the music with video, the video that I lay over the music is about two to three seconds off from the time code in which I set an in point on the source material.
As you can imagine, this is giving me quite a headache as I have to back-time my in point on the source material to accommodate this error. The same glitch is occurring with other projects as well. Although I am new to final cut, I am experienced with other programs, and have never had anything of this nature happen, especially with such a basic project.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Yes, thanks for your interest. I began by laying down the audio tracks on channels one and two. When editing video over the tracks, I set an in and out point on the timeline, and drag my video material into the viewer display. I then set an in point on the raw video, and select "overwrite" in the canvas display.
At this point, the clip will drop to the timeline and display a thumbnail corresponding to the clip in which I set an in point. When I render the video, and look at the timeline, the video is two to three seconds ahead of what I had marked as an in point.
I have experimented with this by starting a new project and simply setting an in and out point on the source material and adding it to an empty timeline. As before, the video will be offset by a couple seconds.
Thanks for your feedback!

  • First time hot sync problems

I've had to reinstall palm and hot sync applications for a tungsten E2 handheld. When I try to do the hot sync for the first time, it askes me for my handhelds password.  When I type in what I know is the correct password, it is not accepted. I've double checked what the password is, it just won't accept it, any suggestions?

Are there any Capital Letters in the password?

  • Working with External Time Code Sync

    Hi,
We shot using a timecode generator. Is there a way in FCP to change the timeline so that the timecode matches that of the t/c gen we used. Basically, how do I change the starting timecode.
    Thanks

Every time I sync my iPhone with iPhoto I end up getting duplicate photos on my iPhone. The other problem is that I can not delete the dups on my iPhone.   Does anyone have an answer to this problem?

Mike whether I create a folder within the Pictures Folder that iTunes uses to sync photographs or just copy them into the main folder the result is the same, I end up with Photo Library plus another album containing an identical set of pictures as contained in Photo Library.
The User Manual for iOS5 states ...
You can create, rename, and delete albums on iPhone to help you organize your photos and videos.
Create a album: When viewing albums, tap Edit, then tap Add. Select photos to add to the new album, then tap Done. Note: Albums created on iPhone aren’t synced back to your computer.
Rename an album Tap Edit, then select an album.
Rearrange albums Tap Edit, then drag up or down.
Delete an album Tap Edit, then tap the delete sign.
Yes I can Add a new Album, but cannot delete an album already created. The delete sign does not appear.
In iTunes the only folder that I can see listed is the man one into which iTunes stores pictures, which I have named iPhone Photos.
When I look on my PC this iPhone Photos folder contains another folder named iPod Photo Cache and a multitude of folders created by iTunes, the named F00, F01,F02 etc etc. and a Photo Database file.
Now whether I create a seperate folder within iPhone Photos to store my favourite photos in, or just copy them all into the iPhone Photos folder without being encased within another folder, or create a folder inside the iPod Photo Cache folder the result is the same ...

I am going around in ever decreasing circles here and getting nowhere fast!!

  • Time code finder to auto sync separate video and audio

    Hi All,
Trying to see if FCP has a tool that would allow me to type in the time code from my digital slate to instantly sync separate video & audio. Shot a low budget feature on a RED and digitally recorded audio. We did setup the RED to get reference audio but now I need to sync each scene and take up to the primo audio.
As far as I know, FCP doesn't have any such option but I hope someone proves me wrong.
    ~reicko

This is kind of off the top of my head, since I usually sync using the "dumb" part of the slate, but here's a workflow I'd try. I'm assuming here that the timecode from your digital slate matches the audio timecode.
    1. Select an audio clip in the bin. Choose from the menu Modify/Timecode...
    2. Copy the Source TC value into the Aux TC 1 row. You might have to turn on some checkboxes on the left side. Make sure the format and the rate are the same for both.
    3. Open the video clip in the viewer and find a frame where you can see the smart slate clearly.
    4. Select Modify/Timecode... and enter the timecode value you see in that frame in the Aux TC 1 row. Again, be sure you're using the right format and rate.
    5. Select the two audio and video clips that you want to sync. Choose Modify/Merge Clips... and synchronize using Aux Timecode 1.
You should then have a new merged clip with the audio and video in sync. The scratch audio that came with the video file will be there too, so pay attention to your audio patching and be careful about which tracks you actually cut into the timeline.
I can't say for sure if this is faster than just marking inpoints at the clap on each clip. Typing in all that timecode could be hazardous to one's health.

  • Live Sync / absolute time code

I'm trying to understand (or maybe misunderstand) how this works:
    "Absolute Time Code
Ensure that existing time codes persist within media files to allow for richer synchronization between streams, improving interactive experiences (such as switching audio tracks or camera angles) with multibitrate and multistream video and synchronized playback events.
so from  this it seems that we can do multi cam live sync
i unedrstand that we =need (via FMLE) to change theconfig file
    <streamsynchronization>
<!-- "true" to enable this feature, "false" to disable.                                                  -->
                                  <enable>true</enable>
      </streamsynchronization>
    and to allow< AssumeAbsoluteTime> in the application.xml
... can anyome point me to some documentation on this or have i totally misuandertsood this? Having done the above my streams dont sync?
I am also embedding the timecode via FMLE and triggering onFI
    any help gratefull received
    thanks
    Matt

    Thanks for that ...
but how do you account for

    "Absolute Time Code
Ensure that existing time codes persist within media files to allow for richer synchronization between streams, improving interactive experiences (such as switching audio tracks or camera angles) with multibitrate and multistream video and synchronized playback events."
beccause surely switching camera angles requires multiple DIFFERENT streams and not multi bit rate or is this just for VOD?

  • IOS6 and iphoto, iPad, Apple TV sync problem still unresolved. Turning on and off a few times have not helped. What should I do now? wait for an upgrade fix?

iOS6 and iphoto, iPad, Apple TV sync problem still unresolved. Turning on and off a few times per community advice have not helped. What should I do now? wait for an upgrade fix?
"&" is not the obvious bug/answer. Not sure what went wrong as I cannot select albums and events for sync. Situation is worse for iPad and Apple TV when error 1140 message popped up even before backup get completed.

Download and install the iPhoto 9.4.1 update, which was just released today. It may be the answer to your problems:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1598
Be sure that neither iTunes nor iPhoto is running when you install the iPhoto 9.4.1 update. After installing the update, then restart iTunes and iPhoto. By default, "All photos" is selected. Change this (it's no longer grayed out) to "Selected albums..." and you should be OK.

  • Time code in sync window

I'm using a new intel-based mac with logic 7.2.3. When I try to enter the SMPTE start-time in the sync window it changes 0:0:0:0 and then sticks there and I can't change it. I use this window all the time when writing picture and it's really frustrating that I can't seem to enter a time code. This function works fine on my PPC based mac - is this an intel bug?

    Hi Chrissy,
Yes, this is an Intel bug. Works fine on PPC. It's fixed in Logic 8, though you're bound to come across other issues should you move...

evry time after sync. my iphone 4 ios 4.3.3 with itunes 10.3.1.55 the time change up one more hour ,, please tell me what can i do to solve this problem

This year, the government has canceled the daylight saving time , that's why happening this problem to me so I changed the time zone in iPhone from Cairo,Egypt (GMT+2 with daylight saving) to Harare,Zimbabwe (GMT+2 without daylight saving , no change in time from summer & winter) & now working good, no change in time after sync. , But it's very stupid thing from apple that they didn't add an option in time setting to enable or disable the daylight saving time like any other mobile.

  • Help! time code problem

I am just trying to batch capture some footage with no known time-code breaks but I keep getting a notice saying it was unable to read time-code and that I may have not created sufficiant room for pre-post roll blah blah. How can I fix this?

    hi KK
when you logged the tape, how close to the head of the tape did you log?
you have to be sure not to log withing the first few seconds, because when FCP does the capture it needs about 3 seconds to before the capture point for 'pre-roll' (which allows the camera/deck play the tape and lock onto the timecode before it hits the capture point) ...
you can change the pre and post roll settings in the Final Cut Pro > Audio/Video Settings > Device Contol tab
    hope it helps

  • Sync problems with Logic ????

I use adat hd24's with my logic setup with a BRC and motu midi express. I'm running smpte to my midi express from the BRC and Logic reads time code from the midi express.. I have music tracks in Logic and I'm recording vocals on the BRC. Should I run MTC or SMPTE to the midi express for logic to sync correctly. I've been having problems with the smpte. It seems logic will go out of sync. This doesn't happen over a short time period. I can run the song thru from start to finish 7 or 8 times but at some point Logic just doesn't want to sync anymore. Sometimes when I start back at the beginning of the song the sync will be fine but if I stop and start anywhere after the beginning the sync will be off. Go figure!!! What's the best and safest way to sync Logic with my setup of HD24,BRC and midi express with L7. The BRC generates MTC and SMPTE.

you need a word clock connection between the brc and the computer/logic. do you have that?

  • Drop Frame video (29.97) with Non-Drop Frame Time Code

    Howdy All,
I understand that DF TC & Non-Drop frame TC are numbering issues and not frame
    count issues, That said,
If I have an encoded file captured from an analog Beta Cam SP that has NDF TC
and that file has been encoded as 29.97, so that the resulting file has
a Frame rate of 29.97 with NDF TC from the source tape,
    1) Does this constitute an error?.
    2) Will this cause problems for the next guy?.
(having been "The Next Guy" in the past I prefer to handle such things on this end if it requires handling)
I have been looking for a straight answer but this specific cause/effect
    is tough to track down.
Thanks in advance for any assistance,
    KA

Well, starting as a linear editor I can tell you jam syncing and converting to DF will really screw up the TC. Every 10 seconds you'll have a TC number that's incompatible with the DF counting sequence.
If these are source tapes, you have nothing to worry about. I actually prefer NDF source while editing (I'm very old school) beacuse if I trim 5 frames on a mark I can calculate in my head where the new point would land regarding TC. With DF, I trim and often have to do a double take because the math didn't make sense.
Do NOT ever alter the time code on any source material unless you have a capture failure that you have absolutely no other way of working around.
Anyone can mix DF and NDF source time code on any system without any issues. The only problem with NDF is determining EXCACT running time of a completed program when delivering for broadcast.
