Time compression

Im trying to time compress an audio clip to be exactly 30 seconds.
I''ve tried the time machine which does not let me enter an exact time & when I hit process I get an error that says "file with specified name & version number already exists"
I also tried "adjusting region length to locators" same error. There was
something processed but the file was still the same size.
Any suggestions?
protools does this raelly easily

I'm not sure how you are trying to achieve this, so forgive me if I repeat the procedure:
Set your cycle locators by dragging from left to right in the area at the top of the Arrange Window (or by typing in numbers directly into the Transport) -- you can figure out where the 30 second mark is by looking at the transport and taking note of the corresponding measure number.
Under the Arrange windows Audio menu, find the "Time Machine Algorithm" and select one that suits the region that is to be stretched/compressed.
Then under that same menu, select "Adjust Region Length to Locators." You should see a little yellow box displaying samples left to process.
I don't know how or why you would have gotten an error message... sometimes goofy things happen if you drag from Right to Left for your cycle points (that's backwards). If the problem is with the audio file itself, it may be useful to make a copy of it and try stretching/compressing that.

  • Time compression / expansion

New to Logic Pro, need help. I make commercials and constantly have to time compress or expand voiceovers to fit to the donut length in the music beds. Is there an easy way to accomplish this?? These will be voice audio files, not midi files. Also how do I change the timeline in the arrange window to display minutes/seconds and/or timecode?
Thanks from a long time PT user. (12 years) and ready to make a change.
    mike

There is a quick way that I use all the time.
Comp your V/O with the desired read etc.... then merge the audio files in to one.
Set the cycle area with the desired length in the donut.
Under Audio in the arrange menu.
'Adjust region length to locators' and you're done.
(set this to a key command, for fast editing)
Note: This uses the selected timestretch algorithm, that is selected in the Time Machine of the Sample editor window.
You might need to refresh your overview for that particular audio region after, as there is a redraw bug, where the audio might not look like it goes to the end of the region, when in fact it is just drawn incorrectly.

  • Time compression when recording

    Hello,
I've recorded a drum track into Audition from a keyboard synth set at 125bpm via an EDIROL UA-25 using USB. Seems to play back fine and keeps sync with audition's internal metronome set at 125.
I then recorded an instrument over the top in step with the audition drum track, however when I play it back the instrument gradually gets ahead of the drums.
I've looked all over the place for a solution but can't find an answer. Its almost as if audition is time compressing the instrument wav but I've got it set to one shot and fixed length. The other possibility is its not actually playing out at 125bpm.
    I'm using Audition 1.0.
Thanks for any help you can give me.
    Richard

    Try recording into iMovie.

  • Time compression for radio production

I produce radio commercials and use Garage band a lot when doing so. My question is - Is there a way to time compress tracks to fit within a certain time frame? Radio spots must be no longer than sixty seconds and at times after prouction, they come in at 101 or 102 in length after making all the cuts possible. There are time compression devices used in production houses but I was wondering if there were any ways to do this in Garage Band?
Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Sorry, I should have been more clear, what i meant by work around was any solution that couldnt give an exact timing change for the long spot. I was used to using software in video editing that allowed you to take a 62 second spot and plugin the number you wanted it to change to and it was done 62>60 from just an entry number.
Other wise in GB doing a tempo change on a track (after converting it to a loop that can be tempo changed) even after doing the math (and who likes math) is a bit of a long way home.
Just as an aside their were some VO guys we couldn't speed up at all (without a lexicon) or they would turn to chipmunks, where as others I could really push the limits beyond belief. The difference always turned out to be VO guys who used heavy compression on their voices with a heavy pre amp EQ on the low/Mid to low end. When they were sped up the lower EQ the effected octaves would rise up into the normal voice range and save the day.

  • Time compression and Pan & Scan

    Hi
I'm editing a PPV special, and the networks are requesting that the Sony Digibeta Master be "time compressed when available."
Is "time compression" a feature in FCP, or is it a feature on the Digitbeta interface only (like the 7.5 IRE NTSC setting)?
Also, one of the networks requests a "Digital Beta or D-3 full frame panned and scanned scene-to-scene color-corrected NTSC master."
"Pan and Scan" referes to cropping 16:9 video to fit within a 4:3 monitor, with no letterboxing, right? My show includes both 16:9 and 4:3 content. For past shows, it's never been a problem when I make the Digibeta of both 16:9 and 4:3. But for this network that requests Pan and Scan, would there be any problem?
I only found these requirements on the Event Master spec sheet, not on the spec sheet covering promo spots. Why's that?
    THANKS!

Pan'n'Scan used to refer to the mechanical process of getting a widescreen image onto a TV screen. Movies were run through big film chains, scanners, to turn them into the highest quality quality video. There was a panning device that would physically move the image from side to side to maintain some kind of continuity with the original film's intent. The worst pan'n'scan films had unskilled operators running the mechanisms. Classic example is a two shot of dialog where we saw half of someone on the left side of the screen talking to an invisible person who was out of frame off the right side of the screen.
I am not familiar with a more modern adaptation of the term "pan and scan" that does not include actually moving the widescreen image around. It's very complicated and time consuming to do it well while maintaining the integrity of the production. You are conforming someone else's composition to fit another frame. Touchy.
Scene by scene color correction is a nightmare, too, but is necessary when going from film to video.

  • Need a time compression plug-in.. ideas?

Hi everyone, I'm working on a project where I need to do time compression of a song. In Avid's Audio Suite, I'd use Time Compression Expansion to change the speed of a clip without affecting pitch. How can I do this in Soundtrack? Thanks,
    Michael

    Hi Michael,
    It's really easy.
Load the file into the audio waveform editor.
    Select a region.
    Then:
Select the timestretch tool (press the t key)
Grab the right edge of the selection and drag it shorter or longer
    OR
    Select Process->Time Stretch ...
If you are using the grab the edge and drag approach, be aware that you can't drag longer past the end of the clip. If you really want to do this, you'll need to add some silence to drag into (with the process->Time Stretch... you can select a length that is longet than the original clip).

  • Logic quits after time compression/expansion

Logic Pro 8 quits EVERY TIME after I use a time compression/expansion plug-in in the sample editor. It does not matter if I use Logic's own plug-in or if I use Serato Pitch 'n Time LE. I am currently spending all my time in core audio as opposed to DAE/TDM land. Anyone else have this issue?
    Mark Miller

I used to be hard core Logic only, and then I noticed something (this may seem off topic but I'm getting around to the point). For the first time, probably about 2 or 3 years ago, Digidesign got off their laurels and realized that other software platforms were taking legitimate shots at their "industry standard."
That's when you saw instrument tracks implemented - that's when you saw better (but still far from the quality of Logic) MIDI implementation. . . that's when the Digidesign AIR group was created. . . that's when Digi added the dynamic transport, flexible track resizing, screen sets, included software instruments.
As a whole, Pro Tools still does not give you the abilities out of the box that Logic does. However, whatever gap Logic 8 closed between itself and Pro Tools with audio editing, Digi widened even further than before with the introduction of elastic time. That's when I finally realized that Pro Tools, a great editor, tracking, and mixing machine, finally realized that its throne was threatened and went to defend it. My work used to primarily take place in Logic, however, that has switched. I probably do 60-80% of my work now in PT and still use Logic for mixing and such. For whatever reason I just like it better. . . I"m sure that will change over too. All pro tools has to do is implement a Logic-esque MIDI editor and I'm not sure I'd have any reason to stay with Logic. Digi has really stepped up to the plate in a time where it has looked like Logic has stepped up, and then done nothing to stay up.
All that to say if you want good timestretching, right now PT is just about the only way to go.

  • Idiot question for time compression in STP3

Let me ask a dumb question. I have always worked in Pro Tools for VO. I edit in FCP and know STP pretty well. I bought a presonus firebox and want to use STP for VO, since I have it in the FCP3 suite.
In VO we always have to time compress reads down to :29 due to heavy copy. I always cut the out the breaths and other bad takes from of my recording and sometimes add some processing. In pro tools, when you add processing of any type it takes all the individual waveforms on the track and combines them into one long waveform in the track. That way you can apply time compression to the whole waveform. In STP will I have to export to a single waveform then re-import it to a new track then apply time compression?
Hope this process makes sense. I use STP to sweeten my audio in FCP, but don't use it for and heavy duty VO production.

If you connect the external disk to you Mac, and click on the HDD icon, the file structure should look like this:
In addition, the HDD icon should eventually appear like the TM logo:
This should allow you to identify the correct HDD.
    Ciao.

  • Quick Time compression?

Anyone know a good way to compress .mov files? I have a 76 mb file that I want to autostart when the page loads but it needs to be smaller.

You can run it through QuickTime Pro if you have it and really mess with different settings. Or you can try a shareware alternative called "iSquint". It is intended for converting video to iPod, so you know it will be good at shrinking video sizes. But it's also pretty good and fast at converting QT movies to web-friendly MPEG-4 with or without H.264.
As far as the autostart feature goes, you will have to edit the .js file for your page and change the "autostart" value from false to true.
If you find any of this useful to you, please mark this reply as either "solved" or "helpful" using the little buttons in the title bar of this reply.

  • Logic Time Compression/Expansion vs. WAVES SoundShifter

I'm considering upgrading my WAVES Platinum to the Diamond, largely because of the SoundShifter plug-in. Does anybody have any experience with the WAVES SoundShifter plug-in? Is it significantly better than what is already included in Logic 8?

  • Restoring edit details after Quick time compression

How do I exit an i-movie editing session without loosing the details of those edits?
When logging off I am required to share the movie via Quick time in order to store it for the next editing session..[I think,..]. When I return to continue working my "saved" film opens in i-tunes, and once imported back into i-movie, consists of only one event and one clip. How do I retain a "work in progress" status so that all of the many assembled clips maintain their editability? [SP!..is that a word?] If this is impossible, please let me know so that I can stop suffering under the misconception of continuing where I'd left off.

How do I exit an i-movie editing session without loosing the details of those edits?
Most people simply close the application. (The current status of the project in progress is automatically saved.)
When logging off I am required to share the movie via Quick time in order to store it for the next editing session.
As far as I know, you are the only person "required" to share his or her project in order to quit the application. Sharing or exporting is what you do with your competed project.
How do I retain a "work in progress" status so that all of the many assembled clips maintain their editability?
Most people simply open the application when they wish to begin a new work session and continue from where they left off. What you are doing is continuing to edit as a new project using the previously "completed" project as your new "source" content.

  • Time and Pitch appears completely unusable at 96k (I/O Error-36)-any ideas?

    Hi there,
Any help for the following gratefully received. Sorry about the excessive length of this post, but I've tried a whole bunch of things trying to sort out my problem and I'd rather list them all in the interests of clarity. (or should that be catharsis?)
My simple question is: Is there anyone out there who is successfully using Time and Pitch compression / expansion at 96k? I simply can't get it to work with any degree of reliability on 2 new machines I've tried it on, and I've even managed to crash the demo machine in my nearest Apple Store trying it out.
Some background: I recently ditched my TDM PT HD system in favour of a core audio Apogee Symphony based one. I use time compression / expansion of audio files extensively in my projects, and previously used the DAE version of Serato Pitch'n Time to do this. I've never rated the Logic Time and Pitch engine, so knowing that Serato and Izotope have developed Logic friendly algorithms was a big deal for me in finally making the hardware switch to a Mac Pro Twin 3.2Ghz Quad a few weeks ago.
I've had quite a few problems / errors running Logic since then, resulting in me swapping the Twin 3.2Ghz Quad for a Twin 2.8Ghz Quad a couple of days ago. I reckon most of those errors are outside the scope of this question, but I'm happy to reel them out if people perversely want this post to be even longer. All those errors now seem to be sorted with the exception of the following:
I've been trying to carry out a series of time compressions and expansions on a stereo 96k audio file to get it to play in time with my track, but the time stretching doesn't take place - I've been getting the 'I/O error Result Code= -36' message when I click the Process button. Not every time, but almost every time. It's more prone to do it with negative tempo change values for some reason, and if it does work, then an undo will almost certainly mess the audio up by not returning to the original state. It fails with both Logic's own algorithms and the dedicated Serato Pitch'n Time LE version. All other sample edit functions (say excite, denoise etc) appear to work correctly.
Knowledge base here seems to imply that I'm getting a disk read / write error. I've tried resampling the audio. I've duplicated it and tried the copy. I've moved it to a different internal drive, having taken the first drive off line. I've moved it back again. I have four internal drives and I've tried audio running off each of them alone and in combination. I've given the file a new name with no gaps or punctuation. I've tried time stretching a completely different audio file chosen at random, usually to no avail but sometimes it works a few times, then fails. Mono files seem to be slightly more reliable, but not much. I've fixed disk permissions and all folder permissions more times than I care to mention. I've reinitialised the boot drive and reinstalled Logic. I've even installed OSX on a different drive, and installed Logic on that one, but that didn't work. I've tried it with my extra 8GB of (reliably sourced) third party RAM removed. I was getting this time-stretching error on the 3.2GHz machine as well, so you could even say I've tried it on two different machines (though it should be pointed out they had the same RAM and Hard Drives).
At the Apple Store earlier today I tried to get a display machine (a 2 core MacPro) with a version of Logic on it (that I'd had nothing to do with) to replicate this error on the demo Logic song. When everything was 44.1 time stretching worked absolutely fine, many times, but once I converted one audio file from its default 44.1 kHz to 96 kHz and tried the time compression, up came the I/O error message. Now I can't believe it's a good idea to have different sample rates in the same song, so I converted all the audio files in the demo song to 96k in a different audio folder, changed the sample rate of the song so it would play back as you'd expect, saved and restarted, and then tried time stretching one of the files - it wouldn't do it, resulting in the I/O error again. Interestingly, after that even the 44.1 version of the song started showing the same error, even after another restart.
It seems like I should work at 44.1 if I want to time stretch, but I like to work at 96k and I should be able to.
This sounds like a proper bug to me and has been crippling my productivity, but I can't believe no one else has tried repetitively time stretching sections of an audio file at 96k - either have you been able to get it to work, or has anyone got any more suggestions I may not have tried out?
Thanks in advance. (Or have you all gone to sleep by now? Self-editing was never my strong suit...!)

Nevermind. I was low on disk space. Duh (though the error could have been a bit more descriptive).
Move along. Nothing to see here, folks.

  • Performance tuning with HTTP compression

We currently are using Oracle 11g and IE8. The 11g UI has been pretty slow and when i looked up for perfomance tuning one of the methods was http compression as stated in the link below -
    http://blogs.oracle.com/pa/entry/obiee_11g_user_interface_ui
The portion of the above information of the has been actually except from Oracle Support ID (1312299.1).
Now I have made the changes as suggested but am wondering how can i test it to make sure the changes have surely improved the performance or not. It doesnt talk of any testing or verification methods.

Just curious , what is the compression ratio ..?
i mean by how much does the volume come down when the records are moved from F to E tables.
also is the time spend on compression of the Cube or on the aggregates or on the deletion of records in the F table..?
what is the ratio of aggregate volume to the cube volume...?
You might want to set an trace on the compression session to get answers on where it is spending most of its time
Compression is equivalent to executing a query on the F table  and summarising the results with the request ID column , appending the results to E table and deleting the compressed request from F table.
    Thanks.

  • Dump in BI 7 While Compression of 0IC_C03

    Hi All,
I am getting               dump  "CX_RSR_X_MESSAGE",  "CX_SDB_ORA_PROGRAM_ERROR" while compression of cube 0IC_C03, earlier we were on SP 9 at that time ,compression was working fine, we applied sp10, 11 after that I am getting dump, even rollup of aggregates is also not happening.
Can you please help me out.
    Regards
    Amit kapoor

    Hi Amit,
Have you tried to implement the compression and aggregation on some other cube. Try that option first and if still u are getting the same issue then raise an OSS note to SAP.
    Hope it helps.
    Assign points if useful.
    Regards
    Vishwanath
