Time consuming entries, no automatic to-do lists

Aloha!
I bought an apple to find out that the ical is no much better than iphone's calendar. As a previous user of PC and Palm Treo, I'm shocked to find out that such cool apple designed calendars are so user un-friendly for the busy professional user.
I'm surprised the alarms for appointments don't work like the Outlook calendar (or better), so fast and easy to use, just like a handwritten calendar (quick entries - not even having to highlight the chunk of time) but with the super power of giving you a list of the things to do, and keep them in there until you dismiss them (combined with e-mails to follow up would be GREAT!). It is a VERY helpful tool for those of us who work with tons of different things to do. it is too complicated! The to-do list should pop up every hour and when you open the program.
I would love to stick to Mac, please update these features, I'm positive it is a great feature for all your users.
Many thanks for your attention.

Hi,
Based on your description of the situation I feel I have to ask whether you set confirmation requirement for source (picking from this storage type requires confirmation) / destination storage type (putaway requires confirmation)?
OMLX - SPRO > LE > WM > Activities > Confirmation
If confirmation is set at least for one of the related storage types and no immediate confirmation is set for the mvt, my question is that are you using any user exit related to this?
Thanks,
Csaba

  • Since recent updates, I have noticed that my apps close automatically when I am distracted. In some cases it is time consuming to sign back in and get back to the task I was doing. Is it possible to change a setting so the apps will stay open?

Since recent updates of iOS, I have noticed when using my iPad that my apps close automatically when I have to leave the room or am otherwise distracted for a few minutes. It is sometimes time consuming to sign back in and get back to the task where i left off. Is there a setting I can change so it will keep the apps open until I am ready to close them? Thanks for your help.

Did you have this problem before Restoring you iPad?
If you did then did you restore with a backup. You may have reinstalled something that is conflicting in this back up
If not then sounds like either something went array with the clean install or a hardware issue.
I know it's long winded but have you tired a clean install then downloading the apps again?

  • I have a solution (albiet time consuming) to iTunes match step 3 crashing

So I've been a iTunes Match subscriber for about 6 months. At first it took me a few goes of it to get it down to about only 350 songs needing to be uploaded in Step 3.... Then the REAL frustration began.... From that point forward no matter what I tried I could NEVER get past Step 3. As soon as Step 2 finished and step 3 began, iTunes would crash. So for the past 5 months I have been unable to get those 350 songs uploaded. It wouldn't even do just one then crash. I was frustrated but after looking I could do without having access too those 350 songs at all times. But then there WAS a song that I HAD to have access too and the frustration began again. I tried EVERYTHING I could find on the internet. Uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes, turning Match off then on, deleting errored files (I only had 4). Playing with router settings, everything. I noticed a lot of people wondering about having music on external hard drives even which mine is. (I will say from experience if your using a USB hub to connect your external hard drives, try connecting them directly into your computers USB port to speed things up a bit).  Then I started reading about people having success converting one troublesome song or two to ACC, deleting the old version, then "manually" right clicking on them and clicking "add to iCloud" My issue was that this option was NEVER available to me when I right clicked the songs in iTunes! Plus some of the 350 songs were already in ACC format. Tonight, after playing around I've found a round about way (and time consuming if your doing this for 350 songs like me, feel bad to those who have THOUSANDS) to finally get these songs to upload to iTunes Match. Here is what I did, and I REALLY hope this can help someone else.
#1. When you first open iTunes, you notice in the top/middle info window that iTunes attempts to connect to the iTunes store, AND iTunes match tries to do its thing as well. AS SOON AS YOU OPEN ITUNES, click the small little X next to the progress indicator inside that info window until ALL acivities have stopped.
#2. Make sure you have the "iCloud Status" sort turned on
#3. Sort your song list in iTunes by the iCloud Status Look down the list until you get to where all of your "waiting" songs are at
#4. Select a small managable group (10 worked best for me, more than that would sometimes cause errors and I would have to redo them)
#5. Right click on the selected group and then select "convert to ACC"
#6 DO NOT CLICK ON ANYTHING ELSE AFTER 'convert to ACC"
#7 Once this completes you will hear the normal "ding" that iTunes is finished
#8. The original files will still be selected with the new ACC versions below each one, not selected. Hit your delete key.(You only want to keep the newly converted ACC files) Also, EVEN IF A FILE WAS PREVIOUSLY ACC, STILL SELECT IT FOR THIS CONVERT TO ACC PROCESS!!!!! If itunes asks if you want to delete these and move to the recycle bin, do so, as you now have another copy that seems to play well with iTunes.
#9 Now you have the 10 recently converted to ACC songs... Select those ten, right click on them then the "Add to iCloud" option (which for me was the first time I had ever gotten to see it at all)
#10 iTunes Match should now begin the process of trying to match JUST THOSE SELECTED songs, then upload whatever is needed. Using this system, I HAVE YET to run across iTunes or iTunes match, hanging up, or crashing all together.
I know this is a bit time consuming, and you COULD do this just for the songs you REALLY wanted to make sure were in the Cloud if you wish. My thought was if I'm going to do it, I might as well do them all.
I REALLY hope this will help someone as I have read so many forum posts, websites, ect, with people just as frustrated as me. And it even made it more frustrating as I had seen new "solutions" posted online yet said solutions still wouldn't work for me.  If you have any questions, please feel free to comment and I'll try to answer and help!

  • We are trying automate shutdown VM listed in hyper -v using C# &WMI?

We are trying to automate shutdown VM listed in hyper-V using C# WMI? I think there is difference between VM shutdown and VM turnoff?I got the requeststate change value for turnoff(that is 3), what is the requeststate change value to shutdown VM?
    Thanks in advance.
    Venkatesh

"shut down" attempts to trigger a clean shutdown of the VM by using the Integration Components to signal the OS in the VM to cleanly shut down.  If the ICs are not available or that times out, then the VM is Powered Off.
"turn off" simply hits the power switch of the VM.  As if the power cord was pulled.  This is a hard down state, and generally one we don't want to see.

  • Max number of entries in the variable input list (F4) of Bex Analyzer Query

    Dear BW experts,
When I run the Bex Analyzer query, it pops up the variable input screen.
If I don't know the specific value of the variable, then I can click on the input help (F4) to get a list of available values.  There is a max number of entries coming back to the list.  For my BW system, it is currently returning 500 values.  For other people and SAP Help document, it could be 1000.
My question is: Do you know where we can configure/set this max value? Is it a global setting?
Thanks in advance for your help in this matter.
    Kevin-

    Murali & Pra,
Thanks for both of your answers.  I think the answers that you provided are for BW 7.X version.
It is flexible and exactly the way it should be for each user to customize a specific variable.
I am running BW 3.5 query, and don't see the "Settings" option/button after I got the list of single values back.
Is there a way to set this up for BW 3.5 query Analyzer?  My max value is always 500 for all variables.  Is there a place for setting this value and save for the next time.
Any help from any BW experts is appreciated.

  • Time consuming letterboxing

    Hello All,
Does anyone have a few hints on avoiding the time consuming letteboxing every time a series of 16:9 clips are imported into iMovie HD 6. Can projects be set to 16:9 as the default aspect ratio so that conversion is unnecessary and time could be saved. It appears that 4:3 is the default aspect ratio for all new projects. I'm using my old G4 eMac - does iMovie read the aspect ratio of the monitor and set itself accordingly for new projects?
    Regards to all,
    PA

When you start a new project you get the choice of setting the aspect: DV (4:3) or DV Widescreen (16:9).
In Preferences you should UNcheck 'automatic pillarboxing'.

  • MacOSX - EOS Utility v2.14.10 - Each Time Run - Re-Installs Itself in Bootup List (Login Items)

First, I love my Canon 60D, however the EOS Utility v2 running under MacOSX 10.9.3 has a frustrating quirk not present in EOS Utility v1.x.
Each time I manually run the EOS Utility the darn thing insists on installing itself on the Mac's list of user software to run when the system boots up.  On a Mac this is called a "Login Item".  You can, and I have, deleted the EOS Utility "Login Item" entry in System Preferences --> Users & Groups --> Login Items (tab) List of Login items.  When I reboot it is not running in the background, which is what I want ... for lots of reasons having to do with overall OSX system stability.
However, when I connect my camera and manually run EOS Utility v2 everything works fined EXCEPT once again it insists that the utility should be run in the background anytime I bootup my Mac and re-enables itself on the Login Items list.  This is not the utilities perogative.  All other apps I've used understand this.  They might install themselves on the Login Items list when you first install the app, but if you delete the entry on that list the app will respect your choice and will not force itself back on the list just to run the app.
QUESTION -  How does the user disable this re-install on OSX's Login Item list behavior.  If this can't be disabled I will downgrade to EOS v1.x or use a 3rd party app until enough users complain to Canon.   I could understand if Canon wants to default to running in the background when the user first installs the software, but if the user specifically removes the entry on the Login Items list, the app should respect this user decision.
    Thank you.

Have tried uninstalling Canon EOS 2 utility, re-installing from scratch after a power down and cold reboot of the Mac (OSX v10.9.3), however I experience the same problem from EOS as before.  No other utility on my Mac or any I have heard about has displayed EOS's rude behavior; re-asserting itself as a background task at bootup when the user has specifically tried to disable this action.
Another person who posted a comment on this thread mentioned that on a PC, EOS-3 demonstrated a somewhat related characteristic; it installed itself to run in the background everytime the PC was booted, however there was an EOS preferences field that disabled this function.  So it seems odd to me that Canon thinks auto-enabling itself as a bootup background task on the computer is unusual behavior for EOS.  You just forgot to include a field in MacOSX EOS preferences to disable it.  Nothing is perfect, but please update the utility now that it has come to Canon's attention.
I have looked thru the Mac version of EOS-2 and have not found any similar way in EOS preferences to disable EOS from always enabling itself to run in the background when it is manually run.  This is rather a bother each time EOS is used -  to always have to use MacOSX System preferences to tell EOS again... and again.... and again... and again.... and AGAIN ... to leave my OS system bootup settings alone.
If there is no way to disable this unfortunate characteristic I will start posting notices on several Mac user and photography websites seeking other user's advice to disable EOS auto-startup or warn them about this problem so they can find other camera file transfer utilities as I will be doing.  Very unfortunate.

  • Time machine won't automatically start

Hi there, i recently got a new imac running the latest in snow leopard and did a restore off my iomega 500GB EXHD from my old imac. When i decided to do a back up on the HD it was taking way too long so i went ahead and erased the HD, reformat and started new for the newer imac. While it works fine i noticed then when i plug my HD it shows on the desktop but now time machine no longer automatically performs the back up. I have to go into the time machine preferences or press back up now. Also in the options window "Exclude these items from backups:" the actual hard drive is in that list but unelectable. That can not be correct right?

OK.  I'm just about done with a moderately complicated shell scripting project that will do what I want.  I have two machines backing up to an external drive on a third machine.  The only purpose of the third machine (for now) is to host the backup drive.  Since I only want to actually back up a couple of times a day, at most, I want the third machine to be awake only when it's needed for a backup.  So, I've now assembled all the shell scripting pieces I need to do the following.  1) perform a TM backup on my schedule (a couple of times a day -- doing snapshots in between on my schedule -- taking into account the machine I'm backup up from is a laptop and thus may not be awake when it ought to back up, so, starting a backup as soon as it's awake if appropriate) 2) on another machine, do a CCC backup once a day; 3) wake up the backup machine only when it's needed 4) put it to sleep when neither of the other machines needs it 5) be able to wake it up "manually" if at some other time I want to get to it  (and not worry about it going to sleep if neither of the other machines needs it)  6) display some kind of status of what's going on.   It's taken me quite a bit of research and stumbling on some nuggets of information to understand all the bits pieces that I'll have to put together to do this.  Once I'm done, would anyone be interested in me posting it?  (The interesting bits and pieces include as a minimum, learning how to use ssh non-interactively, what pmset does, how to wake up a remote machine, a lot of gory details of shell syntax, and figuring out how to change an app's icon from a command line script!)

  • Time Capsule remote access fails - Device not listed

I've been able to access my 4th generation time capsule hard disk remotely, but my router settings keep getting reset and I need help with my configuration.
Apparently, the router (xDSL Motorola 7647-47-20SC) is dropping my IP Passthrough settings for the time capsule even though it initially accepted them and remote access was verified.   Although I've added the time capsule as a new device using its MAC address, after a few minutes the device is no longer listed and my port forwarding and IP Passthrough settings are lost.
    Here's my setup:
xDSL modem configured in DHCP mode.  The DNS server is configured to be retrieved automatically.  The Time Capsule is directly connected to the router via an ethernet cable and has been added as a device using its MAC Address with the router configured to forward both TCP and UDP port 548 to the device.  IP Passthrough has also been enabled for the Time Capsule.
Using AirPort Utility the Time Capsule has been set to bridge mode with Back to My Mac enabled.  I tried to configure it in NAT and DHCP mode to enable disk sharing over WAN, but either lost my internet connection or got an error message that my internal DHCP addresses conflicted with the router's (even though they didn't).
I have a domain host name via dyndns.org which is updated with my public IP address.
The first time I set up the router and time capsule and entered the "Connect to Server" address afp://xxxx.dyndns.org:548 a pop-up window asked for my user name and password, after which I was able to see the hard disk remotely.  But when I tried again this morning there was no connection to the server.  So I checked my router settings again when I got home, and the Time Capsule device was no longer listed!  I can access the disk in Finder within my home LAN, so it must be identified somewhere, but my original IP Passthrough and port forwarding settings are no longer available since the time capsule has been dropped from the list of available devices.
Can anyone tell me how to restore this configuration and make it stick?  Thanks for your help!

Well, I just perused the Swisscom forums and apparently a firmware update initiated remotely a few weeks ago is causing problems with IP Passthrough functionality on the router.  Nothing we can do until a bug fix becomes available from out internet provider.

  • "Large" folder icons automatically changes to "List"

I am using Windows 8.1 and Office 365.
There are some folders and files in my system that I prefer "Large" icons.
    Problem:
When ever I set the view as Large, they are automatically changed to "List" setting after I close the folder or system shutdown. Although sometimes they do not change, but the other times I have to change the settings back to "Large"
    again and again.
Please help me find a solution.

    Hi,
The icon displays correctly as I want in my PC, I suggest you rebuild the icon cache in your system, then test the issue again.
this IconCache.db file is located at: (you need to show hidden files)
    C:\Users\User-Name\AppData\Local\IconCache.db
    delete the files, reboot.
Or rebuild in this way, kill the Explorer.exe with Taskmgr then run those commands:
    cd /d %userprofile%\AppData\Local
    attrib –h IconCache.db
    del IconCache.db
    start explorer

  • When updating manually, FF just updates to the next version, not the latest version. This is ridiculously time consuming.

I prefer to update ff manually. However, if I miss a few updates and then select update, it updates one update at a time, instead of just updating to the newest version in one clean sweep - like it should! This is crazy time-consuming and irritating. This IS NOT status quo! Firefox is a little behind the times here. I am not looking for suggestions on how i should just remove and
reinstall Firefox. That's time consuming too. I JUST WANT FIREFOX TO KNOW THAT THEY NEED TO MODERNIZE MANUAL UPDATE TO JUMP TO THE NEWEST VERSION IN ONE STEP!

It's possible that Firefox had downloaded that intermediate update automatically but not applied it for one reason or another, so rather than go to the web and check for a newer update, Firefox just used the one it already had. It's unusual to have so many point updates so frequently, so I'm not sure when it would be possible to try to observe this possibility.

I had a database consisting of almost 200 views,as a part of Optimization process i want to find out the most costlier views. How to do that.Actually i want the names of the VIEWS,so that i can optimize that. Can any one help me out?
I had one more doubt in our Database a view is created like view A( which is created by joining several tables).so do i need to add index on this view separately or does it take the index of the tables which i joined? And in our Database i  had created
a VIEW which is derived from other views(the Joining objects are views not tables),so while i select recoreds from this views which is derived from other views it is taking a lot of time.Is tehre any problem with that?

  • It there a way to disable the time consuming animation, when leafing through iCal for Lion?

When klicking forward or backward the month- and year-view, iCal 5 displays displays a leafing animation. This is not only childish, but also time consuming. And iCal accepts only one click at a time. Klick. Watch the sheet leaf. Klick. Watch the sheet leaf. Klick. Watch the sheet leaf. In iCal 4 it was just: Klick. Klick. Klick. Ready.

I fully agree with this, one of the examples Apple tries to comply too 'natural' with the OLD world. We have evaluated, we don't need these old leather calendars on our computer devices anymore. Anyway, does somebody know how to get rid of at least the nice but irritating animation?

  • Is there any way to delete multiple spams at once, right now I go through each individually and delete it, but it's time consuming, thanks

Is there any way to delete multiple spam messages at once. Right now I go through each individual spam and delete one at a time. This is very time consuming. Any tricks out there.
    Thank you

    Hi LRagsdale517,
You should definitely be able to upload multiple files by Shift-clicking or Ctrl-clicking the files you want to upload. Just to make sure you don't have an old version of the service cached, please clear the browser cache and then log in to https://cloud.acrobat.com/files. After clicking the File Upload icon in the upper-right corner, you should be able so select multiple files for upload.
Please let us know how it goes.
