Time cursor 'jumps about' when setting edit points in CS3.2

Don't know if anyone else has experienced this:
Yesterday when editing a short sequence the source window timeline indicator kept bouncing around when I set in or out points. Here's the procedure I went through:
1. Dragged source clip to source window.
2. Hit space bar, then 'I' to mark in point whilst clip playing, and 'O' for out point whilst clip playing, then space bar or K to stop.
3. Dragged clip to timeline. (Alls well to this point)
4. Highlight source window and hit space bar to begin playing clip again to take a second section, hit I to mark an in point and here's where everything goes wrong. The clip doesn't continue playing, it stops. The in point has been marked correctly but the timeline indicator has bounced miles away from where the clip stopped, either forward or back in time, and apparently by a random amount. The one consistent thing was everytime I dragged a new clip to the source window, the first time I marked an In or Out, the clip would behave, it's on the second time of marking from the same source clip problems started.
Anyone experienced this or have solutions?
(Editing CS3.2, Laptop with XP Pro, 2.16GHz Core2Duo, 2GB Ram, clips in SD 4:3 PAL, DV codec, External drive)
Thanks
Steve

Perhaps this is related to the intellipoint mouse driver that causes weird interface issues?
Cheers

  • In the develop module, sliders jump about when clicked

In the develop module, sliders jump about when I try to click on them.
This happens after I re-size the window by dragging to the left in order to make the sliders longer. Any ideas on How to stop the sliders from misbehaving?

I am seeing the same problem. Closing and re-opening LR reduces the problem, but there is still a slight (~0.05) change in the value when the slider is clicked on. More disturbing, resizing the right panel brings the problem back, with very large jumps. For example, my Exposure value changed +5 units when I clicked on the slider after widening the panel.

Problem happens with either Apple Magic Mouse or Wacom Intuos tablet (with the latest driver, 6.3.10w2)
Edit: Deleting the Preferences file did not solve the problem.

  • Photoshop CS3 doesn't open or error occurs, when you Edit in Photoshop CS3 from Photoshop Lightroom 2

Problem: When you try to Edit in Photoshop CS3 from Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2, Photoshop CS3 doesn't open, or after Photoshop opens, you see the error message, "Photoshop could not be launched".
This issue is currently being investigated. At present, there are two possible areas that might be causing this issue. Corrupted metadata or a corrupted catalog, or Photoshop CS3 has not been updated to 10.0.1, or the update did not apply correctly to the application.
We are working for a permanent solution for this issue.
Workaround: Please refer to this Adobe

  • When typing cursor jumping around, when typing cursor jumping around

when typing the cursor disapears and i have to click on it to reactivte it in the text box.  Drvining me crazy. This just started. even typing this is making me crazy. And now I notice can not do drop down below. It locked up. I have os x 10.8.3

    From the menu bar, select

  • Cursor jumps unprompted when typing to previous line of text or text box

Recently I have been experiencing this phenomenom:
When I am tying in Word or an email (Gmail) my cursor will ocassionally and unexpectedly jump to a line of text a few lines above where I am typing or in some cases a previous text box (in the case of Gmail).
Anyone have an idea what the cause/fix is? I called Apple support and they didn't want to diagnose over the phone, assuming a software issue that would not be covered by my call-in period.

Same problem same system. Is your model a 17"? I've been to the Genious bar, and shipped the unit to Texas for repair. Apple has yet to publish a resolution to this issue.
I suspect it's the NVIDIA 8600GT graphics card.

  • Cursor jumping about??

Okay, so I know that there are MANY discussions on this topic, but my situation is different.
Every now when I am using my trackpad normally it just starts to jump, and it just clicks on random places, and also right clicks and has made like 20 new folders on my desktop. The only problem, is that it seems to be quite permanent. To stop this I've managed to use a mouse, but then every now and then even the mouse acts in the same way and cannot click. Is there anyway I can fix this? Has anyone else had the same problem as me? I had a problem like this before, until I had my computer fixed for a different reason. Now when I try to use the trackpad it just ignores me, it either doesn't move at all or just jumps around - more to the right. Also, my trackpad (since last week) has not been able to click. I had resorted to using tap. Is this related? WHAT SHOULD I DO??? :O

The strange thing is that that was not the end of it. When the problem recurred the second time there had been some corrections to a footnote and I recalled some help I received on this forum over six months ago. There was (and I guess still is) a bug that requires footnotes to be deleted and rewritten rather than corrected by using copy and paste. That worked - for a while.
Then the jumping page occurred again a bit later. This time I selected all my styles in turn and in Inspector went to Test and then More where I deselected all the pagination and break options. Typing out verses in many different fonts and with important different constraints to each style (spaces before and after the paragraph etc) as I was, I figured there could well be a conflict there. Anyway, that seems to have settled things down. If this should happen to you, don't forget to save the change (deselecting pagination options) in your styles.
    Best wishes
    Ruth

  • Cursor Jumps on T61p Ultrapad

Just upgraded from a T43 to a T61p. Nice computer. The only problem, which could be a feature that I need to get used to is that when I move my finger on the ultrapad from the top to the bottom (or vice versa), the cursor jumps about two inches when my finger reaches the center point.  If this is a feature to assist with navigation, I have found it a challenge in that the ultrapad on the T61 is smaller than the one on my old T43. Is there a way to disable or adjust this?

I suggest reseating the touchpad connector under the palm rest, instrauctions on how to remove the palm rest can be found here.

  • Why does Lightroom color not match when editing in Photoshop CS3

I just started Using Lightroom 4, the only version of lightroom that I have used. Short version, saves me heaps of time. But I went to edit more in photoshop and noticed that the color is dramatically different. I have Photoshop CS3 (10.0.1)and the color space is ProPhoto to match lightroom. If I make edits in lightroom, say removing dust spots, it shows in the photoshop version. It seems that on the shadow side is where it really shows. My workflow would be to import as original RAW in lightroom 4 (canon 1d mark II) and go about editing. Right click to edit in Photoshop CS3, and this is where colors go crazy. Then if I save the file with no edits done in Photoshop and compare side by side in lightroom, they are completely different. What is causing the drastic difference?
These are screenshots where in the left screenshot the original image is the dark image and the lighter is what it looks like when opened in Photoshop. The compare in lightroom on the right screenshot is what it looks like when I saved the file from Photoshop. So how does opening in Photoshop, then hitting save change the image? If i make the edit in lightroom then export the jpeg and open in photoshop, I get the appropriate color, exactly the same as my original lightroom raw.
My external editor settings in lightroom are tiff, prophoto colorspace.
photoshop preferences are to preserve embedded profiles.

Just to make sure we're talking about the same thing, when you "Edit in" Photoshop CS3, it should give a warning dialog that says the version of ACR in Photoshop isn't compability, with the option "Open anyway" (won't work well) or "Render in Lightroom" (which should be fine).  Or, if you've created your own "Edit in" preset, you should get the option "Edit a copy with Lightroom Adjustments".
So long as you've chosen "Render in Lightroom" or "Edit a copy with Lightroom Adjustments" (depending on how you've edit up "Edit in...") then colour should be OK.
Colour options in PS should be something like:
Check all the "Ask when..." options, just to make sure you get warned of mis-matches.  And I suggest the RGB policy should be "preserve...".
And the final thing: to be sure of no colour mis-match, you need a calibrated/profiled monitor (with a hardware tool like Spyder, ColorMunki, Eye-One etc).  When there isn't a monitor profile containing a colour space (which needs a hardware tool, generally) then different programs can make different assumptions and display the same image differently.

  • Select document window title bar, cursor jumps to other screen

This has been going on for a few days now. I've restarted the Mac, etc
Mac dual G4 1.25 GHz with OSX 10.4.11
This started suddenly. I have had a dual monitor system for months now, and have never had this problem before last week.
If I have documents on my second monitor (to the left of the main screen), when I click on a non-top document, the cursor suddenly jumps (always) to the right hand monitor.
The cursor jumps horizontally to the left edge of the righthand monitor, at the same height position as the document's title bar.
Also, if I have a document on the main (righthand) monitor, which is pushed over to the right edge of the monitor, when I click the gray title bar, the cursor jumps about 200 pixels to the left.
If the documents are within about 1600 pixels of the left edge of the righthand monitor, then selecting them does NOT make the cursor jump.
    Pretty weird, huh?
Anyone have any ideas what's going on?
I've never seen this before in 15+ years of using Photoshop.

    andib311 wrote:
I see that when you hover the cursor over the title bar of a PS document the full path is displayed briefly in a tool tip.
Not in the most recent versions of Photoshop it's not.
I think the reasoning for not maintaining the path is that a Photoshop document isn't really a single file.  It's a document that may have been opened from a file, but there's no guarantee that when you save it's going to be written back to the file.
In fact, PS CS5 offers the ability to maintain separate default directories for File - Open and File - Save As operations.
So the short answer to your question is, I believe, no.

  • Editing points on Smart Shapes

Is it possible to delete individual points or add new points to a Smart Shape when choosing Edit Points?

No..too bad. Was one of my requests: to have the same editing possibilities like in other Adobe applications (Photoshop, Illustrator). I have asked multiple times for the Pen tool and its functionalities. At least we can by editing points already manipulate Bezier curves.

  • Setting White Points in Camera Raw

When setting white points in Adobe Camera Raw, while holding down Alt (on a PC), are the red marks what I should look for? Because white marks also appear? Which ones are relevant for the white point?

ACR doesn’t work that way.  There is an eyedropper for the overall white-balance that you can set by clicking on a relatively bright, neutral area, but there aren’t black and white-point eyedroppers.  But, what is clipped black or white is determined by the output colorspace you have set at the bottom and you can get some idea of what will be clipped black and white by turning on the clipping indicators and watching for the areas you’d be eye-droppering on (the black and white patches in your grayscale) to start showing the clipping color overlay for black and white, but any further toning adjustments will move data in and out of what is darker than black and lighter than white so what is clipped for output will change as you fiddle with the various toning sliders.
The reason things are different:  In PS, when you set a black-point and white-point in Levels and click Ok, the data below and above those is thrown away and that is the starting point for the next adjustment.  In ACR, things are non-destructive and all the adjustments occur simultaneously, rather than sequentially as in PS, and no clipping occurs until you create the output file.  This means that the pixels that are darker than your black-point and lighter than your white-point are still there, and can be moved into the black-to-white range if you do further toning adjustments.  Having more headroom of the pixels that are outside the black-to-white range is good because you won’t get the posterization or banding that occurs when colors and levels are clipped after each adjustment in PS.
Can you describe what you intend your overall workflow to be on an image:  how much adjusting will occur in ACR and how much, if any, might happen in PS, after the image is opened into PS from ACR, or opened from a file saved from ACR?  There might be other ways to approach what you’re trying to accomplish.

  • Select Next Edit Point

Anyone notice a keyboard shortcut which will select the next edit point?
For example, with a series of still images, I would like to quickly move to the next edit point, insert the cross dissolve transition, move to the next edit point etc.
Currently I only seem to be able to manually move the cursor and and select the edit point.  Am looking for a keyboard shortcut to move quickly.
    Thanks.

    A Bit More.
I know that the up and down arrows move to the next edit point, but it is not "selected" to insert a transition there you have to click on the edit point first.
I am looking for a keyboard shortcut which will move to AND select the next edit point.

  • Cursor jumps to beginning of document when editing Word-based texts

    Hi,
I hope someone might offer a solution to this problem.
I recently got a new mac book and decided I wouldn't install MS Office for mac on this one, but use iWorks instead. Most of this transition had been smooth, except when I need to edit Word-based documents in Pages. At some point (not immediately), the cursor starts jumping to the top of the document each time I try to type something. I can replace the cursor anywhere and highlight/delete/copy/insert stuff, but once this problem starts, I can no longer write 'in' the text without the cursor jumping back to the top.
This has only happened when opening and editing Word doc(x)s or after copy-pasting text from a doc(x) file into my pages document.
    Mac Book Pro Retina, 2 GHz Intel Core i7, 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, OS X 10.9.3
    Pages 5.2 (1860)
    Thanks in advance!
    Marie

I don’t have an answer for a moving document cursor in Pages v5.2 — outside of your direct control from an input device. I use the same version of Pages with .doc and .docx documents. On 10.9.3 and 10.9.4. External Apple Mighty Mouse. No issue. I have found that low-battery reserve on Bluetooth devices can effect their behavior, or additional interference from other electronic sources.
Does this issue follow you into TextEdit, or /Applications/iWork ’09 Pages ’09 v4.3 (if you still have it)?
I would disconnect both keyboard and mouse via the Bluetooth Menu bar item. Power off each device. Shut your MBP down, then reboot it. Then, power on the keyboard and pair it. Follow this with the mouse. Re-evaluate if your erratic pointer condition remains.
