Time delay switchin from windows xp to osx Leopard

Hello,
I have installed windows xp on a partition using bootcamp and I noticed a somewhat annoying problem:
when I switch from windows xp to osx(Leopard) i get my osx time delayed by 2 hours.
My timezone is +1, and it is set this way both on windows xp and osx. Is there some workaround which does not include manually setting osx time back to normal?

It's a known issue, but I am not sure if Apple will ever do anything about it. The problem lies with how Mac and Windows set the time. Mac uses GMT, and then offsets to find the local time. Windows just sets the time to local time. So, whenever Mac sets the time on the motherboard clock, Windows will be off, and visa-versa. It is very frustrating, since I live in California (GMT -8), and the clock is off by 8 hours every time I switch operating systems.

Accessing Time Capsule disk from Windows 7

I have a Time Capsule 2TB which serves several Macs and a PC running Windows 7. I was able to access the disk from Windows 7 to share files. My PC suddenly stopped seeing the disk - although the Windows 7 machine can still access the web through the Time Capsule.
When I run the AirPort Utility through Windows 7 it is unable to find any Airport wireless devices. I can however see the Time Capsule and the disk when I 'Configure other...' and enter the IP address manually, but still cannot access it.
I am using Airport Utility version 6.2
I thought it might be an issue with the Time Capsule and bought a new one but encountered exactly the same problem.
I read that turning 'Search' off in Windows 7 might solve the problem. I tried doing that but still cannot find any AirPort wireless devices.
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You should be using the airport utility from windows .. not 6.2 which is only a Mac version AFAIK.
Did your windows suddenly decide spontaneously that it is now in work or public network.. instead of home.. windows does this at random intervals to make life exciting for all users. Drag it home.. and make it sit there.
No go, then shut down all the firewalls.
If your problem coincided with the recent upgrade to 7.6.3 firmware.. which would not surprise me, downgrade to 7.6.1 or earier.

Can I browse time capsule files from Windows IIS?

Accessing Time Capsule disk from Windows -- What's the status?

I've seen much confusion about this problem, and nothing official from Apple...
What I know is that my TC with firmware 7.3.2 had no problems.
Both 7.4.1 and 7.4.2 instead do not allow windows pcs to mount the drive.
1) is there any known workaround?
2) does it depend on the TC settings?

Access time capsule remotely from windows 7 os. Please help!

I have enabled net/bios in the network prefs in windows but to no avail. It works fine from a vista os but I cannot seem to figure it out from windows 7. Will someone please help me. I cannot find it anywhere on the web. I am good at finding answers and this one has me stumped. THANK YOU!!!

The failure of the airport utility to find the TC suggests something more fundamental is wrong.
1. Use ethernet. Plug the laptop directly into the TC. Make sure you have internet connection and wireless is off.
2. In windows explorer type directly into the address bar the TC name or IP address.
\\TCname or \\TCIPaddress
If both of them fail and you still have internet access then the issue is firewall.
3. Test again with airport utility.
4. Ensure that the PC is set to home location, not work or public. Turn off all internet security, not just the firewall you can see.. as there can be another you cannot see.
5. If your laptop is setup for windows domain controller, then explain to your IT department you want to connect to peer to peer resources at home. It maybe blocked somehow.

Importing contacts from windows outlook xp into leopard contacts

I am a PC freak, 25 years experience, that now is turning total MAC, have on mac pro, one all new iMac 20" and one macbook g4.
major item holding back from transition was the inability to find a way to transport several thousand customer info, stored in outlook, using Categories as vital selecting criteria.
for some reason ??? Entourage will not import, succfully, this information from outlook. after much ado I have finally come up with a working solution.
I will only do the transiotion once, but maybe others can benefit from my findings (when I browse the forums, I spot lots of frustrated users sitting in similar situations)
So here it is:
the ONLY way (that works)to transport contact from outlook is to
open one contact
save as vCard
send as attachment in mail or put on USB stick
+
in leopard
open mail /USB stick
save vCard to folder on mac
in adressbook import vCard from (that folder)
and repeat...
Now i had these thousands contacts so I found a utility for windows (Mouse and Key recorder 6.3 at www.kratronic.com, free trial for 30 days) that, after some trimmings did the "clicking" for me, storing the generated vCards in appropiate folders (some 400 at a time, for safety)
I emailed these to my .mac mail, and they arrived well. Put them into folders on the desktop and, from adressbook (I use Danish Leopard so not totally sure of english description) I choose Import vCard.
Now comes the distress point not vCards all were imported....
Only a bleak message that not all vCards were imported not the reason!
after several trials I found out that even the content in adressbook were shoving say 437 items, and I had offered say 950 items for import, I got the full quantity shown if i simply sorted the adressbook (first name or last name first....)
then
behold all items were in the adressbook.
I dont have to worry about Entourage, Its synced with the adressbook in Leopard, Grin grin. so no need as I thought to import into Entourage.
this last feature seems not to be used / known when looking in forums, so here it is for your use.

Probably the easiest way to sync contact information would be by first exporting your contact list from Windows 7 into a vcard file or an excel type file such as a .csv file. Then, by using Blackberry Desktop Manager, import that file and load the contacts onto your device. Personally, I spent a few dollars and bought a program called Data Pilot from Susteen. Data Pilot works with all sorts of phones and devices allowing you to easily transfer contacts from one device to another. I use it to regularly backup my Tour's contact list. It was worth the money to buy that program because it saves all of the fields in the phone such as addresses, email addresses, etc. Anyways, let me know if the above works for you.

Migrating users from SBS 2003 to OSX leopard Server

Hello All,
We are preparing to migrate away from SBS2003 to an OSX server setup.
Currently all clients are mac with a few bootcamped PC's onto the macintosh hardware.
We will be using kerio to migrate the mail off from exchange.
My question is if there is a way to move the current users home folders on SBS to the mac server ala replication, i heard you could make the mac server a DC and then demote it to standalone ? is this possible or does everything have to be 'built from scratch' im assuming of course EVERYTHING is reliant on OSX leopard servers DNS being setup correctly from the get go.
Any help / tips/ cavaets / would be a huge help.

Opening FLA saved from Windows 7 into OSX causes objects to shift

Hi,
I've been working on a project on a Windows 7 machine using Flash CS6, saved the file as FLA and then sent it to my work to continue working on their Mac OSX computers. The problem is, when I opened the file, a lot of the vectors were misplaced and had resized slightly which caused problems with my masks.
Is this a known bug, or to do with the way it's saved?

Text is always different between the two. I never allow OSX to output specifically because the linespacing was based upon the PC's linespacing. The designers just change the content to say what it needs and unfortunately it always needs to be exported on the PC to keep the fonts correct. It's bad enough half the time it used to have serious issues lining up the correct font, weight and style because OSX uses a different font naming convention than Windows.
It's one of the reasons I'm sad to see TLFTextField disappear. There was a lot more control and similarity between that type of text field on both platforms. It fixed a lot of issues. But per this documents note at the top TLFTextField, even though it's new, is depreciated and we're all supposed to revert back to TextField. I hope it's simply because all the TLFTextFields features are being built into the classic TextField (we don't need 2 types honestly, just one strong, functioning type).

Printing from Acrobat Reader Linux is many time slower than from Windows Reader

The users are complaining to me that same file is printing one page every couple minute under Linux, while under Windows pages from the same file print one after another very quickly.
Hardware is not affecting that as they are using dual-boot Fedora 14 and XP on the same machines, printing to the same HP LaserJet printer over JetDirect.

Also, I am noticing that scrolling page thumbnails and flipping pages is many times slower under Linux than under Windows on the same machine, but CPU utilization is very low.
Can one of the Linux Acrobat developers look into performance issues please?

Access HDD of Airport Time Capsule 2TB from Windows 7 PC?

Dear Community,
I have difficulties to access the hard drive of my new ATC from my Windows 7 PC.
It works completely fine with my MacBook. The wireless works fine from my Windows PC. It is only the HDD that I cant get a connection to.
I installed the Airport Utiliy and it is "unabled to find any AirPort wireless devices". I tried the amateur stuff to fix it (de-activate the firewall, etc.).
My question is: what are the tests I have to run so I can locate the issue? What are the common reasons for the HDD not to be recognized?
Note: the PC is a company laptop - so there might be some settings through that. But if I know the source of the issue I can ask our company IT to change those settings.

Transfer Photoshop CS5 license from Windows to Mac OSX

I have a Photoshop CS5 license for Windows which I used for the past 4 years, but recently I've switched to Mac OSX and I need to transfer my license. I understand that it is an old version so...
Is it still possible or do I need to upgrade to CS6 first ? I don't wan't the CC version.

There is a platform swap process but it only applies to CS6

Setting up network drive from Windows XP to Snow Leopard

This works fine from my XP box to my mac running Tiger. I'm trying to do the same from my Windows XP box to my mac running Snow Leopard.
On windows I do a "Map Network Drive". I select an empty drive letter ("O", for example), then I enter for the destination: "\\server\username" (where server is the name of my mac and user name is the same user on both XP and OS X. Eventually a login dialog pops up. I enter my user name (on the mac), and the password, the dialog pops up again with "server\username" and an empty password. I enter the password again, and the same thing happens.
Do I need to enable something special in the "Sharing" system prefs? I have the following check boxes checked:
File Sharing
Printer Sharing
Web Sharing
Remote Login
On the Tiger box, I have the option to select "Windows Sharing", on SL that doesn't exist in the list.
Hope someone can help. I only use the PC to scan and then I like to drag the files over to my mac from the PC. I use a network drive set on the PC desktop for that.

Why are you going to all that trouble? Here's what I do:

The first time I double-click it, Windows asks me for the username and password. I type that in, and click the 'remember this' checkbox. After that I never need to enter the username and password again. (Note that this should only be done on your machines on your network...)
Note that 'Network' might have a different name, 'Network Neighborhood', for example, with a different version of Windows. I'm using Win7 Pro on most of my WInBoxes. WinXP makes things slightly more complex, but not much.

Migrate Files from Windows to new iMac Leopard

Can anybody give me idiot proof, step by step instructions to connect my PC to my Mac and copy files. I'd love to be able to plug my PC into my Mac and transfer through an ethernet cable, but I'm not sure how all that would work. I do have a wireless network, but I thought maybe this way would be easier. Do I need to keep the monitor connected to my PC when plugged in to my Mac? How do I find out what the IP address is?

servername is the name of your PC on the network - in this case the hostname. You could also substitute the IP address. The share name is whatever name you give the directory(ies) on your PC when you mark them for sharing. Go to the directory you want to share in MyComputer (this could be the entire "C" drive). Right click on it and choose sharing and security. Select "Share this folder" if it is not already selected. In the box labled "Share name:" enter whatever text string you please. "Comment" is for further information but is not required" You should not need to set permissions to just copy the data off.

How to access Time Capsule 2013 disk from Windows 7

I have seen several (older) threads that suggest that you can access the Time Capsule disk from Windows 7 using Windows Explorer and navigating to \\Time-Capsule-Name. However, I have tried this repeatedly and just cannot get it to work.
Could this be a bug or unsupported in the latest 2013 Time Capsule?
In Airport Utility, under Disks > File Sharing, I have Enable File Sharing checked. The workgroup is WORKGROUP.
The IP address is 192.168.1.4. I am able to ping it successfully; I just cannot access it through Windows Explorer.
Am I missing something? Please help!

That should definitely be turned off!!
Homegroup can mess things up.
I would try with ipv6 off but that might make no difference at all.. leave it set to local-link if it doesn't do anything.
There was issues when the Gen4 came out with security. Windows uses too high an encryption level..

Change to 40 or 56 bit encyrption.
Unfortunately some of the controls you think you are setting on the TC are not really being set at all.. eg I doubt you are actually changing the workgroup.. if possible though you should have disk access set to lowest level .. device password and you should also turn on guest account to read and write.. that usually solved access for me in earlier TC .. I haven't bought an AC for the moment.. because.. well I believe I have done my time on the war front. I bled out already on the bleeding edge.. time for you to do it and I can reap the benefits on the second hardware revision and about the 10th firmware update.
Other things I would try if the above don't work.
Factory reset and start over.. you moved the IP of the TC and that is unwise.
Do not worry about the various settings.. do the factory reset.. in full isolation from the internet. ie TC plugged into the windows computer. Nothing else in either..
Now try at the default IP of the TC..
\\10.0.1.1
Beyond that you need another computer to try or some device. iOS would be fine... in normal situation you would test other protocols, eg ftp but TC offers only SMB and AFP.. there are no AFP clients for windows that I have heard of.. you might have success if you boot the PC from a linux live cd.. it should be able to read AFP even if it cannot write to it. But the SMB is more important. If linux can access with SMB protocol and windows cannot.. the issue is windws OS.
Or iOS devices have some AFP file browsers available but again just test with SMB.. most file browsers for iOS use SMB.. if other devices can manage SMB protocol to open files on the TC then the finger points very clearly to the PC as the trouble.. on the other hand if nothing can access SMB then the TC is faulty and should be replaced.
