Dependency with other modules

Can u tell me whether I can implement only Oracle Projects and no other module of the e-business suite. For eg suppose I use Oracle Projects, so do I need to implement Oracle General Ledger also for the accounting needs.

To be clear, you CAN run Projects standalone - you do not need any other modules from the E-Business Suite. Oracle Foundation (a core component that comes with every Project implementation) provides you with all of the required setup that you need to make Projects run successfully.
If you aren't using EBS General Ledger then you would have to build an interface to your GL system of choice, but EBS GL is not required.

Why time-dependent not work for cost center and profit center hierarchy

Has anybody been able to successfully turn on time-dependent for cost center hierarchy? Looks like the R/3 datasource 0COSTCENTER_0101_HIER is defaulted to be NOT time-dependent, and I dont know how to change the R/3 configuration to enable time-dependent for this datasource.
Here is what I found. If you go to RSA2 in R/3 and enter datasource 0COSTCENTER_0101_HIER, and then select "Hierarchy Info", you will see that all the time-dependent properties are unchecked by default. By comparison, Cons Unit datasource 0CS_UNIT_CSCU_HIER has Version Dependent Hierarchy as selected, and we are able to load Cons Unit hierarchy as time-dependent, but have no luck so far with the Cost Center hierarchy.
Can any BI guru tell me how I can make time-dependent work for the cost center hierarchy?

Basically CO Master data groups dont have seperate tables. They will be available in above tables. Choose proper Set class to filter the results

Time dependent selection

Hi,
Can anybody help me with me problem?
I'm creating a datasource for a characteristic with time dependent attributes.
I need to have 0DATEFROM as a selection characteristic in the infopackage.
But when I do this, the load fails with the next error mesage: " ZEMPLOYEE : Data record 1 ('01000001 ') : Invalid "from" date '00000000 '". And the same error appears for all values of ZEMPLOYEE.
Does anybody how to solve the problem?

Do you load master or transactional data?
If the latter, you need to load master data of 0EMPLOYEE first. The date supplied by the system you need to use in TO_DATE field. The system will take care about creating time-dependent records.

Reporting on Time Dependent Master Date Info Provider

Dear All.
We have a info object Employee which is time dependent master data containing all the information with time dependency, when i create the query over this info object it give me the option to select the key date and it show the accurate information which is lying according to the key date.
my requirement is to show all the records in the report which are there in master data but i am not able to show more then one record cause of the key date, can you please let me know how can i show all the records for any given employee id in the query.

By standard if you create query directly on time dependent info object, it would display the active records as of the report execution (if no key date has been provided). In any case you can only see one record per the info object key, not the history.
In order to fulfill this requirement, you may need to create infoset on this infoobject and select "date from" and "date to" as part of infoset fields.
Then create bex query on the infoset and drag the "date from" and "date to" also into "rows" section of the query (apart from infoobject key, time dependent attributes). This will let you see the history of changes to time-dependent attributes of the infoobject.

Compare two months with time-dependent master data

Hi gurus,
I have the requirement to make a query that compares values from two months but the key figures are restricted by a time-dependent atributte, I created a structure restricted with an Exit-variable that fills the month in course and the month before, the issue is that query designer only accepts individual variables so only one month displays data.
Is there a way to use several key-dates so the time-dependent attributes can be used for especific months?

Time dependent Attibute in my Infoobject ?

Scenario :I have one Char Infoobject with time dependent attribute in that . Data is loaded as Direct update with full load
We are this to maintain History
Question :
1.When I go to maintain masterdata I get two attribute add along with my attribute as Valid From and Valid To, is it system genrated ?
2.When I go to transfer rule ,we have maped this two genrated attribute as well - so In our system To date is constant as 31/12/9999 and Valid From is assign to 0calday.
But when I see the data I get the entries for one particular material as multiple - and more ever it automatticaly adjust Valid To date = current calday -1 , the big problem for me I am not able to get How system is doing this adjustment for Valid From and Vaild To dates for previous entries . -
Is this feature of Time depeneded attribute ???
Note : When I see the infopakage I cant find start routine But I can find one date field from source made available only in Selection tab and which is assign to getyesterday (0)
But which is not maped in transfer rule, I was thinking that it might be used to map to Valid to Date through ABAP.. But I am not able to find code for the same ....

Is this referring an additional record generated by system with diff valid to and from dates ?
Yes, system does that for Time dep m data
Ex : Profit Center - 9999 -12/31/2006- 01/01/1000 - > System Generated Record
Profit Center - 9999 -12/31/9999- 01/01/2007 - > One in the source system created by user.
That is how it works.
But what is your concern because of this sys gen records ?
You will only find the user created profit center in the report.

Measures differing if we drill down by time-dependent Attributes

Hi Everyone,
I am having 2 similar reports,one based on a Cube and other based on a Multi Provider.
The data is being fed into these two InfoProviders,from exactly same sources.
Now,if I display the measure(eg. Invoice spend),in both the reports based on the above two InfoProviders,the overall Invoice spend matches across both the reports.
But if we drill down by a characteristic(eg. BU- Low or BU-High) they differ.But by drilling down by any other characteristic they matches.
I have found out,that the nav. attributes(BU- Low and BU- High) are checked "time dependent".
While the others,for which the result is matching are not.
Can this be a possible reason for the mentioned anomaly?Or can there be some other reason to this difference?

take one example.
if you have loaded data on 10th April, then date range is 10th april to 30th april.
then you are loading data on 11th april, at that time you want date range 11th april to 30th april.
So what will happen to 10th april data? what range? 10th to 10th?

Both JInternalFrames resides on the same JFrame.
I want to implement the following functionality:
when a is moving, i want b to be moved within it.
b can move by its own (by mouse dragging) with no dependency on a

Does someone have an idea how to do that?Take a look at ComponentListener#componentMoved. You'll want to add a ComponentListener to a and cache its location, then move b by the same offset each time a is moved.
If you can't get your head around that, post your best efforts in the form of an [url http://mindprod.com/jgloss/sscce.html]SSCCE (Short, Self Contained, Compilable and Executable) example and indicate the specific problem.

Time-dependent master data in the cube and query

Hello,
I have a time-dep. masterdata infoobject with two time-dep attributes (one of them is KF). If i add this infoobject into the cube, what time period SID will be considered during the load? I assume it only matters during load, if i add the KF to the query it gets its value based on the SID in the cube.. right?

If its Time Dependent Master Data object when you run your Master Data if that time any changes to the Master Data that value will be overwrite to the old value you will get the new value. When you run the Query execution the Infocube Master Data infoobject will having the SID that time it will to there it will be displayed at that moved what is the value you have in the Master Data table.
This is what my experience.

Data not uploading in Time dependent Master data Infoobject

I have a master data infoobject for HR entity and have to load data from PSA to that info object.
The HR entity infoobject already have sone data like below:

Once I loaded this data to the infoobject, i can not see this value which is the latest value of this HR entity.
Can somebody please explain how the data gets loaded in the time dependent master data infoobject and why this entry is not getting loaded in the info object.

Hi,
did you activate master data after your load?
You can check also version 'M' records and see if your record is there.
The load went green?
The problem is, that your entry overlaps all exisitng time intervals, which can't be deleted or merged as there may be dependent transactional data. You have first to delete the transactional data for this entity.
Then you can delete the time-dependent data and reoload it from your PSA.
BW will build then correct time intervals.
The easiest is to change the time interval in PSA, see example below:
At the moment the time interval is not accepted. But you can add time intervalls before 31.12.2011 and after 01.07.2013, Then system will create remaiing time intervals, e.g. your new record is:

Time-dependent Vendor Master & Handling Special Characters

Hi,
I need to extract time-dependent Vendor Master.
1. The data source for 0VENDOR does not have fields to hold the valid date range.
2. Does the Master data in R/3 for Vendors will hold the valid date range?
3. The text for 0VENDOR provides time-dependent, but how to map the valid from and valid to fields?
Handling Special Characters:
We are trying to extract data from Legacy system via DB Connect. The item text field consists of special characters. Of course in BW customization we can specify all the special characters to consider. But the special character we observed is 'square' symbol i.e. 'new line character' in Oracle. We are updating this to an ODS object. When looked at error log, observed that green light for the number of records transferred and updated, but finally when it load into ODS object and activates popping up the error message saying 'could not recognize special character'.
Please help me getting the 2 issues resolved.

Time-dependent BW hierarchies in Analysis for OLAP

Hi all,
We are using time-dependent hierarchies in combination with a key date variable.
Tools used: Query designer based on SAP BW 7.4 and BO 4.0.
The following steps are executed:
Report is executed and key date is prompted
According to the key date, the correct time-dependent organisation hierarchy will be used in drill-down
Bring up variable screen again and select different key date
The drill-down changes according to the now correct time-dependent organisation hierarchy
The above scenario works for BEx Analyzer, BEx Web, Analysis for Office - but not for Analysis for OLAP.
Whenever I run through this scenario and confirm the updated key date, the following error is displayed:
cube.get.dimension.info.runtime.error : java.lang.IllegalStateException: There is no default hierarchy for dimension [ORG].
In the user guide I don't find any specifics about the hierarchies and since it works in all the other applications, I wonder where the error is coming from. I also could not find it anywhere else in the forum.
Has anyone experienced the same error or any suggestions?

This issue is captured in SAP Note 1941865. Resolved in 4.0 (8.5, 9.2 or SP10) and 4.1 (1.6 or SP03).
Symptom
In BI 4.1, Analysis for OLAP returns errors similar to:"An error occurred in the MDAS service while processing a request from Analysis, edition for OLAP. Try the operation again. If the problem persists, please contact your administrator. (AOC00041)" and/or "cube.get.dimension.info.runtime.error: java.lang.IllegalStateException: There is no default hierarchy for dimension [DIMENSIONNAME]"
The BW Query the AOLAP workspace is created against has 2 different hierarchies that have the same text description

0CS_Item with time-dependent hierarchy

Dear Experts,
we are discussing pros and cons for a time-dependent item catalog (characteristic 0CS_item with time dependent hierarchy in BW) within consolidation SEM BCS 4.0. Does anybody has experiences on this topic?
I am quite sure it will be a performance issue and it means additional reporting effort (e.g. using reference period/year in the report comparing different hierarchies).
I am not sure if there are any other risks so I it would be great if anybody has some hints.

Some other things to consider:
- frequency of changes to item hierarchy. Could lead to a lot of item hierarchies in BW over time.
- hierarchy validity date does not seem to be displayed when running web queries and thus makes it difficult for the user to select the correct hierarchy when executing the query. Still looking for a fix for this.
- greater complexity in overall design. Is it really necessary to achieve correct financial statement presentation?
Virtual cube performance is not great but you could implement the data mart which provides typical BW query performance.
I stayed away from setting the item as time dependent for these reasons.
