Time differences in Syncing
Hi all,
I have a Sony Ericcsson K800i and I use Entourage, that syncs with iCal. This then syncs onto my phone.
I've just found out, by being early for a meeting, that the times for events in the calendar in my phone are an hour earlier than those on Entourage and iCal, has anyone ahd this before or know what it could be and how to fix it?
Yes, this is very easy to fix.
If the Time Zone and Daylight Savings settings are not correct in your phone, you may experience the following:
• Events are one or more hours early or late compared to what they are in iCal
• All Day events may start at 11pm on the previous day, or end at 1am on the next day
In your phone go to Settings > Time & date and then adjust the Time zone and/or Daylight saving settings.
Date & Time Settings for the UK
• Time zone should be set to GMT
• From October to March Daylight saving (the same as BST) should be set to Standard time
• From March to October Daylight saving should be set to Daylight saving.
When the clocks change in March or October, just change the Daylight saving setting in your phone and re-sync.
Please note, that any events before the last clocks change and after the next clock change will be out by one hour. This is a limitation in the way iSync and Sony Ericsson phones handle the clocks changing.

check to see that both your computer and your phone are set in your correct time zone. If they are not the same the phone could be trying to make up for the time difference by altering the alarm times by an hour.
You do not say where you are so I cannot give you your exact time zone.
Have you removed your battery from your phone recently and had to reset the time perhaps? This might have caused the problem

Time differences between ical and iphone
When syncing ical to iphone i have a time difference of 9 hours. (dates on the iphone are always 9 hours earlier) No matter on which device the entry was made.
Time zone is set to Berlin, Germany on my iphone as well as on my G5.
Same thing is happening when syncing the iphone with my google calendar.
Any suggestions?A restore of my iphone solved my problem.

I have a 32Gb iPod touch, and I have the timezone on it set properly, but every time i sync it with iTunes the time and date change to something totally different. It syncs music, videos, photos and Safari bookmarks. Is there anything I'm doing wrong here? It's starting to get annoying, and the time difference isn't in hours either (faulty timezone), it's totally random. Thanks for the help in advance.
I recently experienced this issue as well, and was able to fix it with little difficulty. Here's what I did.
1. Disconnect your iPod from the computer.
2. Make sure that the time and date on your computer is correct.
3a. In iTunes, go to Edit => Preferences => Syncing.
3b. You should see your device listed there, along with that same $#%& incorrect date and time. Select it and press "Remove Backup".
4. Close out of and reopen iTunes.
5. Reconnect your iPod. It will create a new backup to replace the one you just deleted, with the (hopefully) correct date and time, and your iPod's date and time will change to mirror that of your computer's.

How much time difference allowable in ntpdate
I gave the command ntpdate on 1 RHEL machine with reference to another RHEL machine like,
ntpdate –b <machine 2>
from machine 1 and time difference supposedly was less than 1 min between machine 1 and machine 2.
But, I have got error like ‘ntpdate[5771] no server suitable for synchronization found’. This raises few queries like:
1) How much time difference is allowable between 2 machines to sync? Is it that the difference should be less than 1 second?
2) What are the pre-requisites to use the ntpdate command so that the operation can be performed smoothly.
I hope, my question is clear.

Regards1) The clocks must be within 600 seconds (10 minutes). The idea is that you set the clock by your wristwatch to get "close enough" and then use ntpdate to actually set the time.
2) Mostly, you must have connectivity from your client to the NTP server; firewalls opened for port 123; and the NTP server must be allowed to send time to the client and the client must be allowed to receive the time. This is what all those nasty restrict lines in /etc/ntp.conf are for.

I purchased the iphone while out on the west coast and returned home and when I sync my phone to my computer there is a 3 hour time difference from what I have typed on my appointments on the phone to what appears on my icalendar. When I try and correct the time on either device it changes the appointment on the other by the three hours. Oh what to do?
If you are syncing your iPhone calendar events with iCal, do you have Time Zone Support enabled with iCal, and do you have Time Zone Support enabled with your iPhone?
If yes, confirm your time zone settings on your Mac at System Preferences > Date & Time under the Time Zone tab.
And on your iPhone at Settings > Mail > Contacts > Calendars under the Calendars section > Time Zone Support. -
Difference between syncing iCal with .me Calendar and publishing my iCal

This is probably kind of simple for most, but I'm actually just learning about iCal and how I can centralize my calendars in iCal on Calendar at .mac (or .me I guess). The Help section doesn't really address the confusion I have. So thanks for any insight you can share.
1. What is the difference between syncing my iCal with Calendar and publishing my iCal to .me?
2. I just added a new event to iCal. Then I clicked on a sync button (via the sidebar of my local iDisk). But when I checked Calendar, that new event wasn't there. Does anyone know why and then what to do to make it appear?
3. When/If I add a new event while I'm at Calendar, how do I make sure it appears on my iCal? Do I follow the same local iDisk sync routine?
4. Can my 2 friends and I log on to my account at the same time to view my Calendar while we're all on our laptops.
Thanks a lot you guys.Ok, I wonder if you could help me with a similar but different problem. I have been using iCal now for awhile but only recently started using Google Calendars (once I found out they could both be synced together). Anyway, I understand how to set up the sync, it's very simple especially following the link that you already provided. But, I have three calendars for personal, school, and work already in iCal that are in the default group that iCal starts with of "calendars".
Anyway, when you create a new account in iCal to set up the syncing, it creates a whole new calendar group. I had never had an "account" before, so all my three main calendars are separate from this new account. Is there anyway to move or duplicate those calendars into my new calendar group so that I can have one flowing set of synced information between google and iCal without manually retyping all of the information myself? I have tried dragging the calendars down into the other group and all you can do is reorder them within the group they're already in. Even a duplication would work, if that is possible (to duplicate a whole calendar).
Any insight from anyone would be incredibly helpful.

Time difference between local time and server time
Hi Guys,
I am currently experiencing a time difference of 40 minutes between the local time and the current server time.
The local time seems to be 40 minutes slower than my current time.
Path for Local Time : CMC -> home -> servers -> input.file repository sever -> metrics tab. (Under the category of Installed on machine peacok, there is a local time.
Question is how can i sync the local time with my current server time?
Let me know if more info is required.

Under CMC >Home >Input FRS , the local time shown is current time of BO Server.
Since CMC is web-based, any date, time value will be coming from BO Server box.
u2022 In case your system and BO server is in same time zone then update the date-time of BO Server
u2022 In case your system and BO server is in different time zone then check with IT team to figure out the BO Server will be maintained in which time zone.
u2022 If current requirement is specific to some report then you can add 40 min in all date value in report to get the desired result.

The column 'PREVIOUS_STATE' shows the state before the current state. .In the table in 2nd row in previous_state column there is state_id = 1 (open)which is the state before 'all report state' -
I have a 50Hz sine wave and a pulse signal on a same graph. The phase difference between two is between 0-90 degrees.
Now I need to calculate the time difference between (when the sine wave crosses zero volts) and (when the pulse rises). The frequency will stay approximately same for both signals.
The application is for a three phase generator. In simple words, when the time difference between the zero-crossing of sine wave and the pulse rises increases, that means that the load on the generator has increases.
I am a beginner user of LabView (version 9, 2009), maybe it is a very simple problem but I've been pulling my hair out for the last few days and coudln't figure anything out. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am using DAQ USB-6008 to measure these voltages and pulse from the generator and a sensor

Thanks for the code but I'm afraid it won't work. Like you said the probability of choosing a value that is on both graphs may not happen. This is something that I would like the code to do automatically.
But I did use the previous code posted and made some modifications to it and it seems to work perfectly. Now the next thing is to be able to get just that one value that tells you the first time difference.
Here is what I get using that code.
As you can see from the t Values. I only need the one that is highlighted. If there is a way to filter out the rest it would be great.
I was thinking of a while loop and as soon as the value is higher than 3E-5 it would store the number and stop the loop, but I'm not too familiar with arrays in labview.
Here is the the code modified.
As you can see, it wasn't that big of a modification and it still is your code.
I will keep trying.

Lost connection detection time difference
Having a problem understanding why a broken JDBC connection is detected under Windows much quicker than it is under Linux.
I have an process that opens a connection to MSSQL using JDBC, a Stored Procedure is then executed and the result set
processed, this execute step is repeated every 60 seconds or so. If any exception is thrown then resources are closed, sleep
for 60 seconds, the connection is reopened (if fails then sleeps and repeats), once reopened the process continues. There is logging throughout
the above steps.
On Windows Vista 64bit Sun Java platform the process runs fine, if I deliberately break the connection (stop MSSQL service), the process
logs a problems within 60 seconds and starts handling the error, when the MSSQL comes back then within 60 seonds the connection is remade
and the process continues as expected.
Under Ubuntu 10 64bit both Sun and OpenJDK the process runs fine, until the connectionis broken, as it takes about 17 minutes for the exception to be thrown
for the broken connection (stopped MSSQL) to be detected, as opposed to under Windows taking seconds. Once detected then the process works as expected, retrying
and reconnecting as it should.
The libs and code used are the same the only difference between the windows and linux versions are the logging path parameter, have tried with different versions of Java
and with different MSSQL JDBC drivers.
What could be the reason for the time difference in the lost connection detection between Windows and Linux? Any help tips would be most welcome.
Thanks.The connection is only made once and used throughout, it is only closed if there is a problem. This runs absolutely fine with logging for weeks, the execute and processing take millisecondsIt is pointless to keep the connection in that situation. Create it every time.
Doing that might even fix your problem. But regardless you should still not keep it.
Have jujst checked the timings and if the db connection is broken the on Linux (Ubuntu) the exception generated by step 4. takes up to 15 minutes 35 seconds to move on to step 7. on Windows though it is instant, there is a log message output prior to the execute statement this outputs then the exeception logged.You have an existing connection.
Then you attempt a request which I am guess takes 17 minutes to timeout. (That happens because you are testing by stopping the server.)
That is the problem.
First verify the connection url. It might have timeout values in it.
If not then the next most likely cause is that someone changed the OS (not java) TCP timeout values. Bad idea if they did. And the only way to fix is to change them back to something reasonable. You can code around this by using two threads. One that sets a timer and the other that runs the request. If the timer fires then attempt to cancel the request (see the jdbc api.) -

If you meassure the time between two characters, you want to calculate how accurate it is? First you would need to find out how accurate the System.currentTimeMillis is on the platform you run on. That may be easy
long start = System.currentTimeMillis();
long end;
while ((end = System.currentTimeMills()) == start);
long delta = end - start;But sometimes (on win98) it reports 50, other times 60. So its not quite accurate. But you could redo that test a couple of times and take the avg or the max.
Then if you get a time difference of 0ms between two characters, you know it will be somewhere 0 and 60ms. If you get 60ms between two characters, you know it will be somewhere between 0 and 120 ms. It's +/- delta seconds accurate.
Would this be a way to calculate the percentage accuracy: 100.0-100.0*delta/(time+delta)
Still better to meassure the time over more than just 2 characters unless it is a very slow stream. -
Execution time difference between SELECT & UPDATE statement in JDBC Sender.
Hi Experts,
In my scenario, I have used the JDBC Sender Adapter with the SELECT and UPDATE statement.
Now the problem is in between the execution of Select and update statement, few more entries are coming in the same DB Table.
So result of this is updation take place for those entries which are not even picked up by the select statement.
Can we avoid this execution time difference between the SELECT & UPDATE statemet on JDBC Sender side???
