Time does not show on Date field

Question

Oracle 9i 9.2.0.8.0
ojdbc14_g.jar - v9.2.0.8.0
When doing a query for an attribute that is of type DATE I get the following type of result:
Sun 01-Apr-2001 00:00:00
I have tried casting it to type java.util.Date / java.sql.Date / java.sql.Timestamp...... and the results are the same.
I've been told by the DBA that the times do exist in those fields.... so I'm assuming it must be the JDBC driver or perhaps a jdbc configuration or database configuration?
Has anyone else encountered something like this?

I have to set oracle.jdbc.V8Compatible=true in my JVM.
I'm using Websphere 6.1 and through the admin console (http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=457&context=SSBRLP&dc=DB520&dc=DB560&uid=swg21240038&loc=en_US&cs=UTF-8&lang=en&rss=ct457websphere) I set the property.
Also, I'm using a spring/hibernate stack.... which I've also set the property
ie:

          p:driverClassName="oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver"

Still no luck. I'm still getting the time back as 00:00:0
Any ideas?
