Response time for Error Messages - Please Help

I have a PRO C application talking to an Oracle database.
The Response time for successful query is within desirable limits.
But when there is a error condition (eg SQLError -3113,or connection refused) it takes more than 9 minutes for the database to respond with the error code.
This condition is observed with only one database while the others are working fine.
What is the reason for this? Can’t it be reduced?

What are the others doing in such cases. Or am I the only one person
where has this special problem on the world. Becides I dont believe
in solving the problem through removing mentioned directory and

If you are using iTunes, quit iTunes, restart all devices and start over again. Temporarily disable your firewall and antivirus software while you try to update.
If you are using WiFi, try using iTunes instead of WiFi.

Time for Another "Please Backup FIRST" Thread

Yes, that's right. Back up your system (or at least your data) BEFORE attempting to upgrade your OS. It's much easier than trying to recover your stuff after a failed installation. Astonishingly, there still seem to be many who do not understand this most basic of concepts.

Hey look, I'm not rich either. I have put three kids through college...well. two plus one "working on it". I understand most people are not "made of money". But this is not "optional". At least it should not be considered so. It should be factored into the cost of the computer. Either a second internal drive or an external if the computer has no extra drive bay. Would you buy a new car and run it on bald tires or with no insurance? What is your data worth? Nothing? That's about the value you give it by ignoring the necessity of having at least one dependable backup. Furthermore, if it were a choice between buying the newest OS or buying a backup drive, I would seriously think about waiting on the OS.

Time for an update... never fails

For as long as I can remember, Flash stops working properly when an update is available. I always know when to check it. Sure enough this time is no different other than there is no Mac PPC version. I can't access flash sites very well without it. I have things to do. Buying an Intel Mac in this economy is completely out of the question. Please fix this problem. Thanks.
PS - please also fix the warp speed it puts my fan into when it's not doing anything. It gets stuck there as well when I close out the browser. Harware acceleration is off.

Regarding support for old systems: I am on Windows 2000 and found today that the latest Flash Player version does no longer support W2K. So I will need to remain on the old Flash Player version.
But this is merely a slight security risk, which I am willing to take. Software developers have better things to do than endlessly support old operating systems and browsers, so if we users decide to remain on old systems, we may as well use old software that is supported by these systems.
Besides, the main point of FP 10.2 is support for 64-bit systems, which both you and I don't have anyway...

CL's new name is Cash-N-Run. No support whatsoever. Expensi've sound card is worthless without driver support. Cash-N-Run doesn't seem to care! My customers are bitching about these worthless but expensi've sound cards. Cash-N-Run is costing me & I'm pissed about it. Cash-N-Run says no Vista support. This company li'ves in the past. Not good in the computer world. Days are like years in the world of tech. I can remember XP driver updates being slow from this company also. I think it's time to dump Cash-n-Run!

Multiple devices - 1 Apple ID, time for another ID?

As a family we currently only use 1 Apple ID - this is the ID on the computer that has Itunes on, any icloud stuff and then we use it on 4 devices belonging to each of us. This was I can keep track of what the children are doing plus we share all the same apps, only have to buy them once etc
Just today I've realised that this can cause issue in some things, the children wanted to go on dragonvale at the same time but one of them would get kicked out of theirs if the other one was on it - i can only assume that for one of the children to have their own version of dragonvale etc is for her to have her own Apple ID? But can I still link her device/purhcases through our 'family'# ID as well
Have been trying to read up on it but I cant make much sense!

No. iDevices are single user devices. You cannot have two users with two IDs using the same device. Either they use one Apple ID or you buy one their own device.

Multiple libraries, Pbook/Pmac, advice for management & updating please.

I travel frequently, and am looking for suggestions to keep all my iPhoto libraries up to date. I currently have a g5, Powerbook, and Mini.
I just upgraded to iPhoto 6 and I have several thousand photos on my Dual g5. I just came back with 1000 more from my diving trip. The problem is, they are on my Powerbook, and taking up alot of space on the relatively small hard drive. I managed to work through the rough upgrade from 5 to 6, and now I need some more help...
1) What is your advice for managing multiple libraries of photos.
2) What is the best way to transfer the iphoto pics (and movies) to my desktop, which of course has the larger storage capacity, after travelling...

There are several different approaches to what you want to do. Let me just throw out a couple that I'm familiar with.
To get the new photos from your PB to your G5 and maintain any keywords, and other organization effort you put into them, you'll need the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager. It will allow you to merge libraries or copy between libraries and maintain the metadata, etc. That's the only way currently available to move photos from one library to another and keep the roll, keywords, comments, etc. with those photos. You can connect the two Macs with one in the Target Mode, probably your PB, and then run iPLM to move the photos to the G5 library.
Now there is a way to have a library on your PB that reflects the one on your G5 but is only a fraction of the size. That's to have an alias based library on your PB that uses the Originals folder as its source of source files. (My 25,600 files, 27G, are represented by an iPhoto Library folder of only 1.75G). When the PB is not connected with the G5, say with a LAN, it will have limited capabilities which are in part: you'll only be able to view the thumbnail files, be able to add comments, create, delete or move albums around, add keywords (but with some hassle-but it can be done). You can't do anything that requires moving thumbnails around, work with books, slideshows or calendars. Once the two computers are networked together again the library will act as normal.
Now while on the road you can have a "normal" library to import new full sized files, keyword them, add comments, etc. and then transfer to the G5 library. Once in the G5 library they will be represented in a roll(s) and corresponding folder in the Originals folder. You then fire up the "alias" library, and import those new folders in the G5 Originals folder.
It may be a lot of work but it may be one way of doing it.
I've not done any of the "sharing" with iPhoto so don't know if that's another possible candidate for transferring.
P.S. FWIW I've created this workflow for converting from a conventional library to an alias based one.

Quick Time for Windows 98 please

Been online for hours trying to download something that will play this stupid little animation .mov file that is from a stopmo animator. I really am working hard for what might be only half a minute. Do you still have an older version of your Quick Time that will work on my Windows 98 computer?? Some people cannot afford new computers.

As Kirk said, it doesn't have the H.264 codec included in QuickTime 7, but 6.5.2 will play most of the other QuickTime formats.

I need a calendar with multiple alert times for events; Advice please?

1. I need to be able to set multiple alert times (e.g. 24 hours before, and 2 hours before)
2. I need a good clear Month view, with text that can be enlarged (I am disabled)
3. It needs to sync with standard iCloud calendar data (I use Week Calendar on my iPhone and iPad - great!)
4. I do not want BusyCal, thanks (the developer point-blank refuses to fix the Alarm window to remember it's width, and refuses point-blank to wrap the alarm title text onto two line when it is long - although they do wrap text in the calendar itself, just not in the alarm window, go figure)

Dashboard Web Clip Widgets - "Time for an Update"

I have an issue with a dashboard widget that I created from the Safari button "Open in Dashboard" to create.
I used the widget on the following page:

Needless to say, it makes this particular web clipping completely unusable...

I would like to do this as well.
I monitor an internal web site that displays network traffic and it would be very convenient to do this as a web clip on the desktop.
Can someone tell us where the details for the Dashboard web clip are kept? Perhaps there are some additional properties that can be added to it from the back end that would get it to work. (A port number, 'https', credentials, etc.) It would almost be silly if it couldn't be done!

Time for another game of "Fix My Rube"

Usually in these situations, things can be simplified so I figured I'd come here to ask if anyone sees a better way. I basically have some delimiters (which may or not be in the search string string) and I need to grab the text between each set of delimiters. The search and replace is probably inefficient, at best, and it would be nice to stick it all in one loop, possibly using shift registers but I couldn't quite get it working as I wanted.
