Time for new battery

My white 13" macbook needs a new battery. Any info on who sells the original battery at a discount (apple price is $129). Or any opinions on maybe buying a third party battery? Thanks!

CAUTION: Don't purchase a McVolt battery from Battery Hippo. From what I can tell Battery Hippo is possibly a front company for fraud. They never answer their phone, nor do they respond to email complaints and their website return request. Battery Hippo sells McVolt batteries that are alleged to be new high capacity (5600mAh) for a discount.
After receiving the "new" battery, it only charged to 5200mAh according to System Profile. Thinking that it just needed to be discharged and recharged a few times to get to maximum capacity (as the instructions suggested), I "recalibrated" the battery five times. With each subsequent discharge and recharge, the battery lost more storage capacity - down to 4200 mAh on the last attempt.
When I tried to contact Battery Hippo, I found out they don't answer the phone, return voicemail, or respond to email. After a frustrating week, I submitted an on-line request to return the battery. They never approved my return request, so I had to send it back without a return authorization. I'M NOW IN THE MIDDLE OF A VISA DISPUTE. BUYING FROM THIS VENDOR WAS A VERY COSTLY MISTAKE: ABOUT 10 HOURS OF ATTEMPTING TO GET THEM OR VISA TO RETURN MY MONEY (GOING ON SINCE SEPTEMBER 24), AND I STILL DON'T HAVE RESOLUTION.
ONCE I GET THIS DISPUTE RESOLVED, I'M GOING TO THE APPLE STORE. I KNOW THEY WOULD TAKE CARE OF A DEFECTIVE PRODUCT.

    How to Set A Default Start Time For New Events In Calendar?

    John,
    Thanks for that suggestion - could not get it to work. However, I did manage a different approach. I finally determined the sequence of events in terms of how the various events and listeners fire (I think).
    Basically, the CalendarActivityListener fires, followed by the listener associated with the Calendar object's Create facet, followed finally by the CalendarEventListener - the final is where the TriggerEvent is available and then finally, control is passed to the popup/dialog in the Create facet. So, my approach of trying to set/get the TriggerDate in the user's HTTP session was doomed to failure because it was being get before it had been set :(
    Anyway, I ended up adding a bit of code to the CalendarEvent listener - it grabs the current BindingContext, navigates through the DCBindingContainer to derive an Iterator for the ViewObject which drives the calendar and then grabs the currently active row. I then do a few tests to make sure we're working with a "new" row because I don't want to alter start & end dates associated with an existing calendar entry and then I define the Start and End dates to be the Trigger Date.
    Works just fine. Snippet from the listener follows
    BindingContext bindingContext = BindingContext.getCurrent();+
    *if ( bindingContext != null )    {*+
    DCBindingContainer dcBindings = (DCBindingContainer) bindingContext.getCurrentBindingsEntry();+
    DCIteratorBinding iterator = dcBindings.findIteratorBinding("EventsView1Iterator");+
    Row currentRow = iterator.getCurrentRow();+
    if ( currentRow.getAttribute("StartDate") == null)+
    currentRow.setAttribute("StartDate", calendarEvent.getTriggerDate());+
    if (currentRow.getAttribute("EndDate")==null)+
    currentRow.setAttribute("EndDate", calendarEvent.getTriggerDate());+
    *}*

  • Suggestions for New Battery for 13-inch MacBook

    I have been having trouble with my battery for a long time now. Often the computer fails to recognize the battery at all and will turn off when unplugged from the adapter (which is also acting screwy, but that's a different story).
    I having been using the original battery that came with the machine, which I bought in September 2006.
    Despite the trouble I am having with the computer failing to recognize the battery, I concede that its probably time for a new one.
    So my question is twofold:
    1. What battery manufacturer/maker do you recommended? / What battery has worked well for you?
    2. Once I get the new battery, that should fix the problem I'm having with battery recognition, right?
    Please find my current power settings/information below. Also, my computer is randomly recognizing my battery after weeks of not, the settings reflect this change.
    Thanks!

    Should if that is the problem. Have you tried this?

    You could also take it into an Apple store and ask them to check it.

  • MacBook Pro 3.1 batter at 27% health at full charge. Time for new 1?

    My macbook pro 3.1 (since 2007) original battery says "service" and has a health of 24% (istat pro) at a full charge with 204 cycles.
    Have PRAMed, SMCed, disk first aided and hardware checked. All is well with the machine except the battery which suddenly die without warning.
    Is it time for a new battery? Any comments?

    Usually when it gives the service message the battery has given up the ghost and needs to be replaced.
    If you are in fact running a PPC G4 that is a battery you can replace yourself.  If you have a newer MB with a battery you can't just poop out you should take it in to the Apple store and have it replaced. You can get a replacement for the pop in type at Apple, Best buy, Amazon, or search online. I purchased one years ago AGPTEK for a 2006 MBP that my kid uses and it is still working fine.

  • Request for new battery specs

    Can someone tell me what are the specs for a fully charged new battery for a 2008 MB (aluminum)?
    i.e. full charge capacity, voltage, amperage, etc.
    My current battery shows 3276 charge capacity, 12419 volts, 0 amperage, 551 cycles.
    It used to say "replace soon", now it says condition "normal".
    Did the battery calibration thingy, and MB shuts down sooner around 17% these daze.
    Time to replace?
    Thanks for all replies.

    Full capacity originally was around 4200. At 550+ cycles, your battery has had a long and productive life. Consider a new one.

  • 13" MBP 2010 "Replace Now" battery condition, 1050 cycles, Will i have to pay for new battery?

    I have a spring 2010 13' macbook pro. The problem with my macbook is that when i unplug the chager, after it says its fully charged, it automatically turns off. My batteries condition says to "Replace Now". I checked the battery cycle and its at 1050. i understand that my battery is supposed to last for 1000 cycles. Well my question is will i have to pay $129 for a new battery even though I still have a year left on my applecare?

    Thanks Clinton (Birmingham, England?).  I've actually only had this computer's battery on reserve twice since I bought it, but it generally runs down to 30 to 60% a couple of times a day, then I have plugged it in to top it off.  I try to top it off before 30% because on this forum I've seen a couple of times that charging it from 50% twice, is much easier on the battery than charging it once from fully depleted.
    So I guess if you charge it from say 70% to capacity three times this counts as one cycle?
    Anyway, I'm not going to get obsessed about this.  This is my third new or almost new MBP from my company, and I've never had the same one more than two years.  I have had to replace batteries, but that is on old ones that have been handed down to my children.

  • Suggestions for new battery replacement for 1st gen Ipod?

    Hello all,
    I recently acquired my brother's 1st gen Ipod mini. I love the thing. As with others, I think I'm having troubles with battery life. I have played songs on it for around 2 hours today. At 1.5 hours of playtime, the battery life indicator was nearly empty (NOTE: I have read this article: http://www.vsa.cape.com/~danh/ipod.htm and I understand the "lying" battery life indicator). A half hour after this, the unit shut itself off: the battery's charge had been depleted.
    I have been looking at ebay and there is one company selling a battery for under 10 dollars with shipping. They seem to be fairly reputable, claiming to be a top supplier of Ipod products and that the batteries it sells are superior to the ones that originally came with the 1st gen mini Ipods. They claim the batteries they are selling are " Internal Li-Polymer Apple Mini iPod Battery
    - 600 mAh (High Capacity)
    - 3.7 V "
    I have ALSO seen a replacement battery for the Ipod mini claiming the following:
    " Voltage: 3.7V 550mAh "
    Yet another claims:
    ...our battery which is made and tested to the highest international standard gives you a capacity of 650 mAh which is 50% more than the original Apple battery. The original Apple iPod part number is EC003. This is a brand new high-quality generic (non-OEM) battery."
    My question is has anyone replaced the battery on their 1st gen mini Ipod? What voltage and mAh readings should I get for the battery I buy?
    -Phillip

    Anyone correct me if i'm wrong here but AFAIK:
    Ok, the main thing to look for is the 3.7v rating. the mAh refers to milli-Amp hours, i.e. the amount of charge the battery can hold, not the current it outputs.
    As long as it's 3.7v, it's cool. And the bigger the mAh, the better.
    Good luck in your replacement.

  • Criteria for new battery and case

    So I went to my local authorized apple repair place today and talked for quite a while to a very nice genius who left me more confused than ever about how bad a battery needs to be to warrant replacement. There seem to be no clear criteria.
    What my battery does is vacillate between believing it has 30% of its original capacity left after 142 cycles and 80%. It lasts about an hour to an hour and a half on battery with bluetooth and airport off and the screen dim, and lately it has begun shutting off suddenly while on battery power.
    When I visited the store today, it happened to believe it had 78% of its original capacity left, and it didn't shut off while he was watching it. Apparently 78% capacity was not bad enough to warrant replacement, because he asked if I could either leave the macbook with him for testing, or come back and show him what happens, if I can figure out what triggers the changes in capacity or the sudden shut-off. He said that no log would show a sudden shut-off like I was describing, so he would have to see it himself.
    This left me pretty confused, since I thought that even the 78% was low after 142 cycles compared to what other people were reporting. I wonder if there are any objective criteria so that we can KNOW if our batteries are among those that need replacing.
    As to the case, I have better news. Mine is one of those cases that has cracked very near the edge, under the right-hand magnet. After examining the rest of the case to make sure it showed no evidence of dents or scratches to suggest it had been dropped, he agreed right away to replace the case and has ordered a new one for me. He seemed to know of the problem and of Apple's willingness to replace such cases.
    So that leaves me this weekend trying to figure out when and why my macbook shuts down when it's on battery power so I can reproduce it for the genius ....weird!

    I had the same problem with my computer shutting down at 30 minutes left on the battery. You might be better off calling the number in the update. I explained to them the problem and I had a new battery two days later and then you just send the old battery back. No cost.
    If you go back to the store ask to speak to the manager. Sounds like you got a genius that is not to bright. If you know when you battery is going to shut off your computer you could have enough on your battery to start it up and after a few minutes when it reaches that point it shuts down.
    Mine was always at 30 minutes. You should not have to jump through hoops since this is a known problem.

  • Charge time for New 8GB Nano?, Charge time for New 8GB Nano?

    I just got an 8GB nano today and I did not see a time given for the initial charge...
    I took it out of the box, read the little teensie instruction booklet, plugged 'er in and loaded up with some songs..still plugged in, and I assume charging, though the display is now off after I "ejected" it from iTunes.
    a buddy says overnight. I'm hoping it's not that long, but I want to do what's best for the battery's longevity.

  • Estimated Time for 100% Battery?

    Hi,
    I have a MacBook Pro 15 inch (2011 model) for three months now and I'm just wondering, what is the "normal" estimated time for 100% charged battery on this model of MBP (provided that the wifi is on and screen brightness is at 50%)? Mine is saying 6 hours and 10 minutes. Is that normal?
    Regards,
    Jay

    Thanks, I'll give it a go! Btw, can you please tell me what is your full charge capacity? (Maybe that has something to do with my reduced battery life?) Mine is saying 6633mAh.
    p.s. you can find this by clicking on apple icon (top left corner) > about this mac > more info > power (on the left pane)  - it should then show details of full charge capacity on the right

  • Is it time for new iso image?

    As I remember ArchLinux goal was to make one iso for one kernel.
    So what happened?
    There is no new iso announced for quite long time.
    I know there is no big need for new iso's but if ArchLinux wants to be popular it has to hit news sometimes?

    silver wrote:the new  iso image will come out soon
    that seeming a real official like statement with a very concrete timeframe i just went ahead and did and ftp-install. Unlike other people stated I did not encouter any trouble whatsoever, I just hope that doing an ftp -install does not cause any fragmentation on my fileystemen, i.e. I have no clue where it puts and deletes the downloaded stuff from before install, i can imagine that this is less of a problem from the .iso.

  • Default time for new event is always 15 min b4...

    I think Ical is great and i use it daily to help me with my biz to stay on top of calls i need to make.
    I am constantly adding new events and i always want my new events to open with a default time of "0" rather than "15 minutes before". It is very tedious to constantly have to change this every time I make a new event.
    I also would hope to do the same thing with the alarm default feature so that I can change the default setting from "none" to "open file" since I always set alarms on all my new events this way. I am sure other ppl have the same problem if this ical a lot and would love to know how to tweak this or fix this in an update.
    Apple if there is (or isn't) a way to fix this then plz tell me so instead of ignoring this post as I noticed a similar post someone else made has been ignored,
