Time format that provides seconds

I'm using the time format of 0;00;00;00.  However, this doesn't count off seconds anywhere.  I'd like to sync video with an audio track.  I'm using seconds to recognize exact places to sync.  Is there a time format in AE that will read out seconds?

That is seconds.
The format is
Hours;minutes;seconds;frames
When you see a ; instead of a : the time is accurate in NTSC land. If the digits are separated by a : it means you're in non-drop frame timecode display. Non drop means that the real time of the display is not accurate but that the frames always count up to 30. In drop frame (real time) time code, frames are counted at 29.97 frames per second so every so many seconds one of the numbers is dropped. No frames are dropped, it's jut that count doesn't smoothly go 28, 29, 00, 01 02 every time.  This is done so that the real time of the display corresponds to the clock in seconds.

  • Difference between LV 6.1 and LV 7.0 - Date\Time Format

I found different behviour of numeric controls in Date/Time format, or
in "Seconds to Date\Time String" function in LV6.1 and LV7.0
    In LV 6.1:
Absolute time in seconds is formated in control with date/time format,
output depends on local time format on computer, where this VI runs.
So if I start LabView on machine with specific time zone, and for
example DST on, the output was changed by these settings. ANY number
of second is handled by this settings.
    In LV 7.0:
Output still depends on specific time zone, but the use of the DST
on/off depends on absolute time value. So if the number represents
absolute time which fits period when DST was off, the output is
wihtout DST, even if the DST is on when this vi runs.
The solution in LV 7.0 is much more better than in LV 6.1, but ...
If data are measured and stored (store of absoulte time DBL) in one
time zone, and if they are processed in different time zone (for
exapmle where DST change is in different time), the data
    representation is wrong.
In LV 6.1 it was not correct too, but anyway there was a way how to
    solve this problem:
I stored absolute time DBL and GMT delta for every time stamp. When I
process this stored data on different computer with different time
zone, I recalculate time stamps in this way:
absolute time + stored GMT delta - GMT delta of computer where data
    are presented.
So in final I have correct time does not matter on time zone or any
other settings which are on computer where are data presented.
But on LV 7.0, the GMT delta is not constant for every data and this
algorithm is useless. I can simply show correct time when data are
from same time zone without any calculation, but it is almost
    imposible to correct show data
    from different time zone.
    My question is:
Is there any "ini file item", which can tell LabView 7.0 to use time
representation style as in LV 6.1 ?
    Thank you and best regards
    Jiri Hula

Thanks for the well written question.
Unfortunately, there is no ini token or any way of specifying LabVIEW use the LV 6.1 style.
I am attaching a LabVIEW 7.0 VI that calculates the UTC Offset for a given time value (I don't think the same code would work correctly in LabVIEW 6.1). The VI comments are:
The attached VI will take Daylight Saving and Time zone into account to compute the offset in seconds from UTC Time to the Local time (as specified by the computer). Note: This VI can aid in converting from Local Time to UTC time, but not in converting from one Timezone to another.
I hope it helps. Basically, your data is in UTC (absolute time) as it has always been, but LabVIEW 7.0 changed the way it displays the UTC data (trying to be more correct). If you wish to display it the way it was in LabVIEW 6.1, things are going to get a little tricky. LabVIEW 6.1 displayed the same DBL absolute time differently depending on if the current computer time was in DST or not. To get this behavior in LabVIEW 7.0, the equation:
absolute time + stored GMT delta - GMT delta of computer where data are presented
is still correct, but for LabVIEW 7.0 the GMT deltas now vary depending on whether the absolute time is in DST or not. It may be possible to convert the GMT offset you have saved from LabVIEW 6.1 into a set or pair of UTC Offsets. This would require a knowledge of what the DST state was for each of the data points in question.
The DST state or GMT/UTC offset that the computer currently is using may be obtained from the attached VI.
The absolute time is stored in GMT/UTC so that in different time zones it will still equate to the same time, even though it will be displayed differently. Another data format (such as storing the Hour, Minute, Second, Day, Month, Year; or storing the date as a string) might be more appropriate if the time should be displayed as the same local time regardless of the time zone.
I hope this helps. Please respond if you have any comments or questions.

  • I have a modem from my cable company that provides WiFi.  When I try to connect time capsule to the modem via an ethernet cable I am unable to and I also lose my wifi connection

I have a modem from my cable company that provides WiFi as well as ethernet ports for internet TV and Sonos.  But when I connect Time Capsule via an ethernet cable to the back of the modem I am unable to get it to work and I lose my wifi connection completely. I added Time Capsule to back up data and also to extend the reach of my wifi with an airport extreme hooked up by another computer.

Put the TC in bridge before you plug it in.. ie do the setup in isolation to the rest of the network..
I would also start a new wireless name on the TC so it is different to the cable router..
If you want to be exacting also set wireless channels so the cable router is set to say channel 1 and the TC set to 11 for 2.4ghz. Then plug it in.. you will have no trouble as the TC will get an ip address as part of the existing networking.. then extend the wireless using the extreme.

  • Music format that will be valid in twenty years time??????

I have bought an external hard drive for my music to allow me to store and downsize my library.
I have no faith that the mp3 format will last.
So I would like advice on which format to use e.g. AIFF, apple lossless or something which could then be converted to mp3 or other compatible format for later use on the ipod?
The file shaving and compression techniques employed deliver differing results. mp4s is here as is wav et cetera so I am nervous about converting to the wrong format and then having to repurchase those cds I had. My current library size in itunes is 80Gb in mp3and that is about half of my music collection.
I would like this to be the last time I have to rip my cds. or should I have more faith in Apple not deserting their ipod devotees??????
many thanks( in advance) for your time

I think it's likely that you will always be able to find codecs for the most popular formats floating around the internet somewhere. Personally I use Apple Lossless as I feel it offers the best size/quality ratio (and it plays on my iPod).
What with advances in audio technology, there's always going to be a new format that offers better sound/compression/more channels etc, and there's not a lot us consumers can do about it (well, I guess we could stick to vinyl). I have a few albums on vinyl, cassette, CD, and SACD (yeah, I know, I'm a sucker), and that's not to mention remastered versions, remixed versions, special editions, etc, etc.
But if you're really bothered, then you should store your music as WAV or AIFF files. They've been around longer than the other current formats, and still serve as the de facto "default formats" for much of the music industry. They also sound better than lossy formats. Though at 600Mb + per CD, it might be time to start saving for a bigger hard disk!

  • Will video saved in a quick-time format be view-able on devices that don't have quick time?

If I purchase quicktime7 and save a video in that format, can that video be watched on other devices (pc, ipad, androids ,etc) that may or may not have quicktime?

QuickTime can save in formats that can only be viewed in QuickTime, but if you save the video in standard MPEG-4 format, then it should be viewable on any device that can view industry-standard MPEG-4.

The time is quoted in seconds. Divide it by 60, and save the remainder. For example, if it says 307, the duration of the song is 5 mins, 7 sec.
Another confusing thing in that format is the "size," which is quoted in bytes. You can divide it by 1024 to get kB, and by 1024 again to get MB, which will be a more familiar number.

  • When double to digital indicator set to display in time format... Value changes.

    Dear all,
I am having trouble displaying the value I want. I have a double value say 320 sent to a digital indicator where I have edited the properites of it to display in a time format containing only minutes and seconds like so, '3:20'. Unfortunately it'll take the value and change it to a another value and display that. I do not know what the issue is. If anyone knows the solution... PLEASE post!

I only believe so due to the fact that when I convert a value from time stamp to double such as 3:20 it gave me 320. So I thought that the reverse might be try. Should I just input the total amount of seconds and that will output the Minuteseconds that I want?
    Thanks for quick reply.

  • BO 3.1 WEBI Time format variable not showing correctly

    Hi,
I apologise in advance. I know this topic has been covered many times in previous forums but I have been through each and I am still encountering an issue.
My requirement is to convert x number of seconds into a HH:MM:SS time format for both positive and negative numbers in WEBI.
I found a formula on a forum here that suggest using the following code:
    =FormatNumber(Floor([Column_Name]/3600) ;"0") + ":" + FormatNumber(Floor(Mod([Column_Name];3600)/60);"00") + ":" + FormatNumber(Mod(Mod([Column_Name] ;3600) ;60) ;"00")
I have used this code and when I give the code an input of -720 seconds it outputs in the format -1:-12:00.
It is quite frustrating I cannot get this to the correct format, can anyone suggest what is wrong with this formula?
I am using WEBI for creating the formula on BO 3.1.
    Kind Regards,,
    John

    Hi,
    Let me try.
    This is your formula.
    =FormatNumber(Floor([Column_Name]/3600) ;"0") + ":" + FormatNumber(Floor(Mod([Column_Name];3600)/60);"00") + ":" + FormatNumber(Mod(Mod([Column_Name] ;3600) ;60) ;"00")
Issue with this formula is only when you have used negative seconds.I have break the formula =FormatNumber(Floor([Column_Name]/3600) ;"0")  and found this is giving the wrong result. If you divide -720/3600 you will get 0.2 and nearest integer is 0 but in this case 1 is coming.
Same time it is working properly with 720 and  the result  will be 0.
In this case i have  created one variable  which  convert the negative values to positive. If you enter -720 then it will convert 720 and you will get the 0 from first part.
    =If([Column_Name]<0) Then ([Column_Name]*-1) Else [Column_Name]
Second part is if you entered the negative values then output should be in the negative.but with above condition you will get the positive values.
Again i have created the formula If([Column_Name]<>[Column]) Then "- which compare the object values and see if I have changed anything.
Like i have entered -720 so first variable will convert to 720 then in next formula it will check -720 is not equal to 720 (Which is not) then add - (minus sign) and same calculation else part if is equal then use the same formula which you have put.
Hope this is clear to you.
    Regards,
    Amit
