Time is always GMT

I recently purchased an extended life battery, because my one from Apple had finally died on me. The new battery was causing me some grief -- and somehow in the process of resetting my pram/nvram (which the battery company told me to try), my clock got messed up. No big deal, I figured, until I realized I couldn't set it back to EST time. No matter what, after I close the time settings manager, it goes back to GMT.
Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks.

Drag these two files to the desktop and reboot the computer:
~/Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist
/Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist
I had the same problem and this resolved it.
* rebooting will generate new .plist files to replace the ones you drag
to the desktop - any customised GUI settings will be set back to default values.

Is there any size limit? or a limit of time to upload? (as it takes more than one hour!!!)

    Preview the book -
Before ordering your book preview it using this method - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and save the resulting PDF for reference - the delivered book will match it.
if it is good boot into safe mode, preview again (only limited fonts are loaded in safe mode) and upload

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the word "Starting" (without the quotes) in the String Matching text field. You should now see log messages with the words "Starting * backup," where * represents any of the words "automatic," "manual," or "standard." Note the timestamp of the last such message that corresponds to a failed backup. Now
CLEAR THE WORD "Starting" FROM THE TEXT FIELD
so that all messages are showning, and scroll back in the log to the time you noted. Select the messages timestamped from then until the end of the backup, or the end of the log if that's not clear. Copy them (command-C) to the Clipboard. Paste (command-V) into a reply to this message.
If all you see are messages that contain the word "Starting," you didn't clear the text field.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don't post many repetitions of the same message.

  • Time machine always backs up same amount of data

When backing up with Time Machine it always backs up the same amount of data each time (140GB).  I am not modifying 140GB of data each day or even each week so why does Time Machine always default to this amount of data?
I would like TM to only backup modified data so that I am not waiting hours for TM to complete backup.  Looking for a reset or workaround for this issue.

  • [SOLVED] GNOME:(Please help) Time is always 4 hours off after reboot

    Hello,
I've had this odd problem for months now on Gnome and i'm going to finally ask for help.  Basically, the time is always minus four hours (it is 8:38 am right now but it says 4:38 am).  Manually adjusting the time does work, but it always resets after a reboot.  My location in the time/date/weather panel app is set correctly.  I've searched the forums and google but none of the fixes have worked, one involved changing my hardware clock from the terminal but it didnt have any effect.
The system time in the bios is always correct.
This is on my laptop (x86_64).  My desktop, which is a nearly identical setup except that it is i686, has never had this issue, in fact i'm on it right now and the time is correct.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

    It's the "localtime" one.

You can't if your iPhone was hacked/jailbroken to unlock.

  • Time machine always backs up a minimum 2GB to Time Capsule

For some reason Time Machine always likes to back up a minimum of 2GB, even with virtually no use of my laptop. I do not think it did this before I got the Time Capsule, but its quite obvious now since the Time Capsule is noticeably slower.
Does anyone else have this occur and is there a way to prevent it?

    Welcome to the discussions!
Are you running Aperture, Entourage, VM Fusion or other programs with a monolithic file structure? One small change in one email results in the entire Entourage data base being backed up since the program views any change as a total change. Same for the other programs. This can fill up a drive really fast.
Download Time Tracker to get a look at what is being backed up on each pass that Time Machine makes.
It takes some time for the program to load, so allow 4-5 minutes before you start to click on the backups to see what is taking up all of the space.

  • HT5639 The system time is always changing by about 7 hours

I am running windows 8 64bit pro upgrade on my mac 27inch i2.7GHz. The system time is always changing by about 7 hours, I reset it by clicking on internet time update and it is OK until the next sync or if I restart then it goes back to being out by the 7 hours. Timezone setting are correct and language setting are all pointing to the correct zone/area. I have the latest bootcamp drivers installed too. Any help to get this fixed will really help as it is making my emails very hard to follow when I have noticed the change..
    Thanks

I used the "Registry Fix" method in this article to fix it in Win7/64 on my BootCamp partition. Worked perfectly.
    http://prasys.info/2010/01/fixing-time-sync-issue-with-osxwindows/
The article was written before Win 8 was supported by Bootcamp but, as the Registry fix is handled entirely within Win OS, it may work with Win 8.

    Hello,
you could adapt the answer from there Re: Change language in Acrobat XI Pro - It does not work
... and if your Acrobat XI Pro is a part of CC you could work according to this scheme Adjust the install language | CCM >>> I quote: The language for the Creative Cloud applications is different from what you expect.

  • Time machine always unlocks after restarting

Time machine always unlocks after each restart - only on MBA my MBP 2010 always stays locked and I need to put in password to open it -- any advice please I mean the locked to prevent changes lock

Turn off TM, delete the file com.apple.timemachine.plist from the folder ~/Library/Preferences, reboot, and re-set-up TM. See if that helps.

  • Time conversion to GMT +8

    Dear All,
I am receiving the date and time in this format 310310153323 that is the date is 31/03/10 and time is 15:33:23 so how can I convert this into GMT +8 which can also handle the increment on the date accordingly? Thank you.

    newbie14 wrote:
The string is representing GTM+0 so I want to covert it into GMT+8? Any idea please? Thank you.Expanding on reply #1.
    1. Create a SimpleDateFormat using a timezone of UTC.
    2. Parse your string using 1. The output of that is a Date
    3. Create a SimpleDateFormat using a timezone of UTC+8
    4. Format an output string using 3 and the Date from 2.
Other than that make sure that you undestand a Date ALWAYS has has a UTC value. Timezone only matters when you parse a String or format to produce a String.
