Time it takes to download from minidv camera to imovie

I'm using a friends imovie and they always download their movies from their camera to imovie by importing the movie using the firewire. They told me the time it takes the movie to download is equal to the time it takes the movie to playback at regular speed. I thought the idea of a digital format and a firewire was to speed up the process of downloading "stuff" to the computer. Is there a way to import my movie without having to play it at the same time. If there is it would save me a lot of time. Thanks for the help.

The transfer may be faster, but since it's usually MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 you need to convert to DV after the transfer. The conversion is much slower than real-time. MPEG is highly compressed compared to DV, so you have lost quality compared to a DV camera.
(iMovie HD does support MPEG-4 directly from SOME cameras, but that is valid only for MPEG-4 projects, not DV projects.)
MPEG recorders include DVD-recorders, hard drive recorders, solid-state recorders and Sony's microMV recorders.

The first thing to try is to run Software Update (the Update tab in the Mac App Store.). This was an issue a couple of releases ago, and an update seemed to fix it.
If you are already at the most recent version of iMovie, then I don't know how to solve you issue. Maybe someone else will have some ideas.

Photos downloaded from my camera get stored in PhotoStream

Some of my recent photos downloaded from my camera (not from my Iphone) got stored into "PhotoStream2 and into "Events", how can I avoir having them going to PhotoStream ? Shouldn't it be only pictures takes from my Iphone that go to Photostream ?

Aperture and iPhoto uploads the photos to Photo Stream, so this is the reason. Deactivate it in System Preferences > iCloud, but it deactivates the download of photos in iCloud

Yes provided the photo format is compatible with the Mac. I suspect it is JPG format which is compatible.

What version of iPhoto are you using? How are you trying to add the camera pics to Photo Stream. Like this?

Fatal Error when trying to download from new camera

I have Elements 5.0 with Windows Vista HE. I've added a new camera (Nikon Coolpix S630). When I try to download from this camera via USB - first my Adobe Photo Downloader does not open as it does with my other 2 digital cameras when connecting, second - when I open the downloader and choose "get photos" it lists the new "S630" but then gives me a fatal error (c0000005) when I select "Get Photos". What can I do to try to get this new camera to act like to other cameras for downloading? (Right now I have to download into Windows Gallery - save to a folder - then open Elements to get photos from folder.) Thanks for any help!

You should be able to download the 5.0.2 update for running on Vista from http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=40&platform=Windows if you do not already have it installed.

Look at the folder created by the download in to Windows gallery. What types of files are on the camera card ?

iPhoto pulls off new videos from my iPhone 5 just fine. Does iPhoto automatically come up when you connect your iPhone? If it does, you should see your iPhone under "Devices" in iPhoto and then can select the videos to transfer (select, then Import Selected), though that should happen automatically.

Simply, sharing video via email is not advisable.
Many email services have an attachment limit of 20mb and some a limit of 10mb. As emails are sent through an array of relays, the effective limit is the smallest file size allowed on any of the relays. That means that video is rarely suitable for emailing.
Then there's the whole issue of Codecs and not all machines will have the codecs to play all videos. Plus, folks with slower connections can find it very inconvenient to download large video files.
Finally, sharing video from iPhoto via email is not supported. All that gets you is the Movie thumbnail. If you feel you must share via email then you'll need to export the video first, and attach that. Use the File -> Export command and set the kind to Original.

Other than that your options include:
Upload it to a sharing site like YouTube or Vimeo and email a link - these will allow the recipient to view the material online. That will avoid the codec issues mentions, and the person can still download the video file if they wish.
Upload it to sharing services like Dropbox or YouSendIt and email a link. This will require that they download the material to their machines to view.

Have you repaired permissions and restarted your computer after installing ML? Checked your printer settings in System Preferences?
If Software Update does not list any updated drivers for your model printer, you should go to the printer's manufacturer website and download the drivers from there and/or contact their tech support to determine if your printer is compatible w/ML.

When you open the dowloader, click on the Advanced button if not already in advance mode. Is the option to hide videos turned on?

If the DVD is to play on a DVD Player, then Share -> Send to iDVD as iDVD is the only app that creates the correct file structure and format for this purpose.
If the DVD is just to hold the file, then Export to the desktop and burn with the Finder.
