Time lapse from stills

I am making a time lapse movie from a group of hi-res still images. The final needs to be HD to play looped on the clients HD TV.
We shot the stills only about 20secs apart. When I play the movie back, I get quite a bit of flicker. I do not beleive it is interlaced flicker I've been reading about. It is more of an exposure variance flicker. I've read that , that can be common on still camera time lapses due to the aperture is not exactly the same on all frames?? I hear there may be a plug in, Boris FX for after effects that will help with this??
Any help on this would be great!
Also, the test movies I've made with several different compressions are too soft.
I'm Pretty new at this. Again any help is greatly appreciated.

Since it sounds like you have After Effects, you may want to check out Stephen Schleicher's tutorial on removing the strobing from time lapse footage. It sounds like it's exactly what you're looking for. It uses the built-in Color Stabilizer filter to accomplish its task.
It's the first tutorial on the following page:

  • True time-lapse from stills

There's been at least one post on this, but I have not seen any resolution.
I wish to import a few thousand stills created with my Sony HDR HC3 shot at 1 still per minute (or 10 minutes). I'd like end up with a HD movie, 30 frames per second, with each still providing one frame. Importing through iMovie HD gives various results. I try to "apply" 1 or 2 or 3 frames to each photo, but end up with 9.29 seconds per still photo. Basically, the media/photo import in iMovie seems designed for movies with embedded stills, not time-lapse. Is this the way to make true time-lapse in iMovie HD (6.0.2)?
If iMovie HD can't do this, is there other software that will package stills into HD video format at this fast rate?

    Karl,
After thanking you and reporting that your suggestion for importing stills at 1 frame per image worked well, I find today that I can't get it to work again! Today I still get the imports set to 9.29 seconds each. Once this morning an import came in with 2 frames duration. In all cases, I selected a previously imported clip whose duration had been set the way you suggested to 1 frame. So this variable behavior makes me think that the KB code may be more buggy than just the text box.
Just to be sure I'm not misunderstanding you...I'm using File/Import command, and iMovie is in the "Clips" mode. The selected clip with the 1 frame duration is selected in the clips bin before importing a new still.
I feel a bit silly reporting that a computer is producing variable results, but it seems to be, and I'm no neophyte to computers.
    Any ideas?

  • I am having problems exporting my time lapses from quick time pro i need to save my files as photo jpegs but the standard video compression window will not open fully,

i am having problems exporting my time lapses from quick time pro i need to save my files as photo jpegs but the standard video compression window will not open fully, it just keeps my mac (old 1.6Ghz 2.5 GB sdram G5 still good for most stuff i need) spinning for ever but i can see compression type H.264 selected and the other setting but i can not select any other options as it still thinking but never opens! why is this happening how do i get round it?
my work flow is: 300 images shot on a 5d mark II medium jpegs opened in Light Room cropped to 16:9 then exported and opened in quick time i can save a .mov H264 giving me files sizes of 14 mb for a 16 second time lapse, mp4 9 mb. the only way i can get large files is saving as a self contained movie then i get 300mb files.
i need to save my files 1920 x 1080 photo jpeg codec as i want HD quality.
i am sure there is a simple way round this?
    thanks guys!

  • Creating a time lapse from a video

Is there a way in iMovie 09 to discard frames in order to create a time lapse from a video that has already been shot? I realize that the normal way to create a time lapse is to assemble a group of stills into a video. What I'm looking for is sort of the other way around. If this is not possible in iMovie, does anyone know of other software that can do this?
    Thanks,
    Bob

Yes. For example, you can set the speed to 800%.

Isn't speeding up a clip a lot the same as discarding frames? I've done Modify -> Speed and changed it to 1000% and it looks time-lapsy to me, especially if not much is happening in the clip.

  • Changing the time lapse from Eloqua to SFDC

    Hi Guys,
Our current time lapse from Saleforce to Eloqua is 2 hours. Where would I be able to change this setting in Eloqua to 30mins?
    Thanks!

Are you referring to your auto synch for the data integration between Eloqua and Salesforce? You want to synch the data from 2 hours to every 30 minutes?

  • How can I create a Time Lapse from clips in FInal Cut Pro?

Currently have 3hrs of footage from an event....wondering how I can create a time lapse of it all in FCP. I want to make it shortened down to around 4mins if possible. How is this created?

Try exporting a reference quicktime of your sequence and reimporting it into your project. Drop it in a sequence. Use the Time remap tool (click and hold in the select edit points tool until you see the icon that looks like a clock and choose it). Click and drag the end of your clip until it's at the 4 min mark.

PS: This is for FCP 7. Earlier versions of FCP require use of the speed dialog (CMD+J) or Time Remapping in the Motion Tab of the viewer.

  • How to mix time lapse with still images and imported movies ?

    Hello
I have been shooting photos (time lapse with Camera Pro) and movies with a Nokia N8 and would love to use iMovie to mount all that.
Unfortunately, for the time lapse I cannot get the duration of the photos to 0.03s, it just won't accept it. I have been looking around the forum and could only find sort of solutions when you have a transition or effect on the pictures but not when they are just fit to the screen...
So now the time lapse looks much slower and broken than the movie itself... and it does not look nice.
Another way would be to make the time lapse with QT Pro and then import it but I am affraid I am loosing quality in the process.
Anybody knows how to fix this duration problem ?
Thank you in advance for any helpful answer.

    Able, Jim,
thanks a lot, both solutions work just fine.
Take the first image, adjust the Effects, copy it, select the other images and past attributes
    and
just put all images together, make a new sequence and use that first sequence as nested sequence and put the effects on that

  • Capture Time Lapse from Canon HF100

I just bought a Canon Vixia HF100 camcorder. I want to connect it to my Macbook and record some time lapse footage in iMovie HD 6.
How can I do this? The camera doesn't have firewire support.

I probably am not the most qualified to answer this post but wanted to weigh in on this. I have done an enormous amount of research prior to purchasing my Canon HF100. First I got the camera but did not purchase the sd card at the same time so I sat there like a kid at christmas with a new toy and no batteries. Finally the card arrived 2 days ago. I wanted this camera because I needed better quality video over the JVC HDD. With everything pointing to AVCHD and everyone touting the quality and speed I thought this was my best move. 30 minutes of FXP video takes over 1 hour to import into iMovie08. I am not impressed with the video quality and do not know at this moment why the video, not the audio, freezes on playback in Quicktime or iMovie. If I could go back to the old school tape I would. Maybe I will change my mind in the next couple of days and if I do I will post it back here.

  • Time-lapse video from existing series of pictures...

I am new to Premiere Elements and looking for instructions on creating a time-lapse video from a folder of still pictures taken using a GoPro camera.  So far the Help has only discussed creating time-lapse from a video feed.  great thanks for any suggestions...

    Welcome to the forum.
If you are ONLY using Still Images, and no Video, then you will want to determine your delivery, say DVD-Video, or BD, or posting to YouTube in SD, or HD. That will determine the Project Preset that you will choose.
Let's say that you will wish to deliver the Project via a BD (Blu-ray Disc). If so, then you can choose a 1920 x 1080 Project, at either 30 (29.97) FPS for NTSC, or 25 FPS for PAL.
I would Scale all of my images to 1920 x 1080 in Photoshop, or Photoshop Elements. This can be easily done with an Action for an entire folder of Images. See this ARTICLE for some tips.
As for Import, there are probably two ways to handle that, but someone will have to give you exact instructions on the second, if PrE now supports Importing Numbered Stills Sequences, like PrPro does. I believe that it now does, but use PrPro for such, that I have not explored it. The other is pretty straight forward. When I Scale my Still Images, I number them sequentially, so that file ____00001 is followed by ____00002, etc. through the last Image in the sequence.
This next part might take some experimentation, depending on the intervals, that you have set your Go-Pro to shoot, and the "look," that you want. For pure Time-Lapse, a Duration of 1 Frame is probably what you want, but if you wish a bit more of a Stop-Motion look, then you might want, say 3 - 5.Frames. For most of my work, I will go with the 3 - 5 Frames, and use very short Cross-Dissolves between each Image. After you have done the experimentation, go to Edit>Preferences and set the Still Image Duration. Then, Import the Stills, or if possible in PrE, Import the Numbered Still Sequence, which, in PrPro, will allow one to add the Cross-Dissolve automatically. Remember, also in Edit>Preferences, set the Video Transition Duration too.
Good luck, and let us know what works best for you. Also, keep an eye out, because if PrE does support Numbered Still Sequences, that will save you some time. Steve, Neale, John T., or another will verify that PrE has that capability, and where to locate it.

  • Creating a time lapse

I imported video from my newly bought HD video camcorder and was wondering if anyone out there knew how to make a time lapse from the video, as in speed up or down the time in which the video was taken. Just wondering if there is a way to do this in imovie rather than final cut.

Time lapse and fast/slow motion are different effects. In any case, no, you cannot really do them from within iMovie '08. You can either is iMovie HD here, or create the motion effects externally using an application like the JES DeIntelacer.

It am not understanding clearly what program is not closing
    Photoshop Elements
    or
    Premiere Elements
There is the AdobePremiereElements.exe for Premiere Elements (video editing) and the PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe for Photoshop Elements (photo editing).
Right now you keep mentioning Premiere Elements, but I am seeing your description more like Photoshop Elements.
Please clarify so that we can focus on the correct program and try to resolve its problems.

  • Can I make a time lapse effect from video footage?

Is there a way to easily create a time lapse effect from video footage in Final Cut Pro 7?
I have hours of footage - too many hours to just do speed changes.
Is there a way to automatically grab a frame and hold it for a half second or so every 30 seconds?
    Thanks,

Depends what you mean by "easily".
I have hours of footage - too many hours to just do speed changes.
I think doing via speed changing may be the easiest way to do this. Once the footage is ingested, get it to the timeline and do your speed up. At least this gives you the option of trying different speeds to get the effect you want, and the option to vary the speed as needed.
Is there a way to automatically grab a frame and hold it for a half second or so every 30 seconds?
Yes, but it somewhat complex. You need to buy an app from the app store called SnapMotion 2 (which I think is around $3.99).
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/snapmotion/id548959270
SnapMotion allows you to take a video a file and pull still frames at interval you specify and in the format a frame size you choose, and save them as individual images.
So you would set up the interval you want (say 30 seconds) and SnapMotion will go through the file and pull an image every 30 seconds. You would need to do that to all your files.
(I have never done this with a file that was longer than 10 minutes, so you should check with the developer and see if it will work with very long - multi hour - clips).
Once you have all your pulled stills, then open QuickTime Player 7 and import the still images as an image sequence.
Once you have the image sequence built in QuickTime, export it in the codec you want to use in FCP.

  • Time Lapse import from GoPro

My Gopro camera has a time-lapse option/feature that takes one photo every X seconds.  You can then import those photo stills onto your computer, which I have done.  For a 30 minute time-lapse "video," I've collected a little over 1000 stills and have uploaded them into Premiere Elements 10's Project area.  Is there a way to move more than one still photo at a time from the Project area to the Timeline?  The only way I can see how to move the stills to the timeline is to drop each individual photo into the next frame, which, as you can imagine, is going to take forever.  Isn't there a way to select all or move all stills from the project area to the timeline without having to click on each individual still...then move it over to the box, then unclick..then move it back...1000 times?  Please tell me there is a way...please...

If your photos are named so that the will appear in alpha-numeric order in the Media panel, you can grab the entire block at once and drag them all to the timeline.
BTW, before you bring them into the project:
    1) Ensure that your photos are no larger than 1000x750 pixels in size to avoid overloading the program.
    2) Go to Edit/Preferences/General and set the still photo duration. You can set them to be one frame each, for instance, to create a stop motion animation sequence.

  • Time-lapse Still Images

After two hours of reading on the web, I was unable to find any help for my problem.  Perhaps someone out there has some knowledge to share.
I have several years worth of still images.  The images were taken in 15 minute intervals.  I need to display the images as a time-lapse movie with controls to step through each frame (still) or animate to time-lapse forward or in reverse.  I would like to dynamically select the images corresponding to any date from a calendar component.   A cover flow would be nice if it could somehow display the respective date with the image.
However the best method is for doing this, the result needs to function within a Flex application.  I am just a beginner Flex developer so I need at least to know if this is feasible.  All opinions are welcome.
    Thanks!
