Time-lapse Still Images

After two hours of reading on the web, I was unable to find any help for my problem.  Perhaps someone out there has some knowledge to share.
I have several years worth of still images.  The images were taken in 15 minute intervals.  I need to display the images as a time-lapse movie with controls to step through each frame (still) or animate to time-lapse forward or in reverse.  I would like to dynamically select the images corresponding to any date from a calendar component.   A cover flow would be nice if it could somehow display the respective date with the image.
However the best method is for doing this, the result needs to function within a Flex application.  I am just a beginner Flex developer so I need at least to know if this is feasible.  All opinions are welcome.
Thanks!

  • How do I convert time lapse still images into a video in Premire Elements 13?

I have 250 images taken at 15 second intervals that I want to convert to a video. I am not having any luck finding how to get elements to put the single pictures together. After I import the images I can play them but have not been able to shorten the time each still plays. So It is like a slide shot and not time lapse.

  • Quick Time Pro Still images duration

I am using Quick Time Pro version 7.7.5 to edit video clips.  I am adding a still image to the beginning of each clip for illustrative purposes but need to lengthen the amound of time the still image is displayed after it is attached to the video, preferably for about 5 seconds.  How would I go about doing that?

This is where "add scaled" comes into play. A still image doesn't have any "time" but if you add it scaled to an audio track you can give it a duration.
Open any audio track in QuickTime Player Pro and make a five second selection. Paste that selection in a new player window and close the source file.
Make sure all of your image files match the dimensions used in your video before starting.
Open the first of your image files, select all (control-a) and copy (control-c).
Switch to the 5 second audio track, select all and "Add to Selection & Scale" from the Edit menu.
Open the Movie Properties window (Window menu) and "Extract" the video track. This is now your 5 second image file. Name and save the file and close the image audio mix file without saving.
    Repeat for your other images.

  • Converting Time-Lapse Stills to Motion

    Hello All,
A friend of mine built a bridge on his property. He mounted a still camera in a tree, and had the camera take a picture ever 1/2 hour for 3 weeks. His desire is to create a time lapse film out of the pictures.
He has given me a disc with many pictures, and I'm looking for the most efficient way to handle them. For example, I wanted to reduce all of them to 3 seconds, as most of the time, there is no activity (all was dependent if something was happening on camera during that specific moment within the given half hour. I tried to adjust the duration of one, and paste those attributes to all, but that didn't work.
Any thoughts on handling this project with ease would be appreciated.
    Cheers,
    DG

Also search here for time lapse and timelapse. We've entertained lots of these threads.
Three seconds per image is not time lapse, it's inhumane. You want each frame to be one frame so thirty frames go by in one second.
You could bring your images into iPhoto and tell is to output 3 seconds per frame with a dissolve between each.

  • Time-lapse and Image Sequence issue (Possibly also Frame-Rate)

So I'm in the process of making a time-lapse, and have batch edited and exported (in jpeg) 627 images.  My sequence settings are 23.976fps 1920x1080 (1080p).  Doing some quick math, 627 images at 24 frames a second should give me a little over 26 seconds.  However, I'm only getting a 20 second clip.  The settings on the clip are 29.97fps and 5184x3456 (I scale it down and use some keyframes to add some motion.)  So my question is is there a way to import an image sequence as 24 fps, rather than the default 30 that the clip is imported in?  Even when I put it the clip on the timeline and click "Keep sequence settings" it cuts it down to 501 frames, and I still only get 20 seconds worth of clip.   Thank you for your answers!

I am in PAL land so I not that familiar with ntsc but I think the difference has to do with the 23.97.
If you make a custom sequence you can set that to 24 fps exact.
Import the jpegs as an image sequence. this means select the first image, check image sequence at the bottom of the window and hit OK.
Also in the preferences under Media set the Indeterminate Media Timebase to 24.

  • Time-lapse still photos to IMovie???

    Greetings.
I have a Nikon D2x that will shoot time lapse photography. I tried a test of 30 images (one second of video). So I have a folder of JPG images which I then resized to 640x480 at 72dpi.
At first I tried to import these stills into IM just by dragging and dropping my pictures into the clips window to the right of the viewer. It took a while for these to "render" but when they finished, I placed a few of the images in the time line.
I pressed play, thinking that each photo would show for 1/30th of a second, but what happened instead, stayed on the first photo, did a pan out, and then went to the next photo.
My question, (and maybe IMovie is the wrong app for this) is how do you take a sequence of still photos and have them play each for 1/30 or 1/24 of a second so that I can see the out come of my time lapse photography?
    Thank you for your help.
    Jonathan

how do you take a sequence of still photos and have them play each for 1/30 or 1/24 of a second so that I can see the out come of my time lapse photography?
The easiest is to use QuickTime Pro ($30, from Apple). It lets you import a series of images to a movie, creating just what you want. You can tell it to import the images at 30 frames per second or any duration you want.
It can be done in iMovie too, but there are some hurdles. One is that iMovie lets us import a photo with a duration no shorter than 3 frames per second (shown as 0:00:03).
But there is a back door. See this topic:
    http://discussions.apple.com/click.jspa?searchID=-1&messageID=3210397
I pressed play, thinking that each photo would show for 1/30th of a second, but what happened instead, stayed on the first photo, did a pan out, and then went to the next photo.
That happened because the Ken Burns settings in the Photo Settings window were set to zoom in. Turn off the Ken Burns checkbox and import the image as a still instead of an animated video clip.

  • Time lapse single image

Anyone know how to pull a single image out of an iPhone 8 time lapse photo/video?

I'm very disappointed with Apple, they release the latest and greatest forward thinking professional editing program which as it turns out does not have the ability to import a sequence of single frame images.  I operate at 23.98 frame rate.  If I adjust the still image setting to 0.04 seconds no image in imported, if I set to 0.05 seconds images are set to 2 frames.  You used to be able to import images as single frames but only in JPEG.  You can't import Raw directly via photo browser integration with Aperture.
Creating Time Lapse movies is increasingly becoming more popular which Apple seems to have completely overlooked.
Seriously isn't Apple coordinated within its development teams.  Don't they have a list of functionally with previous software versions to check against when developing new applications?
I could do all this with Adobe programs instead of going backwards with Apple programs.  So far I'm disappointed with this release.  I hope that Apple do something to broaden it's view of the user base needs.

  • Adjusting time for still images

Is there an easy way to import a series of still images into the timeline and make them all display for the same duration? OR does the time need to be adjusted on each individually?
    Thanks.

Changing the default still duration only changes the duration of the master clips that imported to the project. You would have to re-import all the still after changing the default duration for this to work.
However, if you drop a bazillion stills into a timeline, you can select them all and choose a new duration, it will be applied to all of them, provided they all start out at the same duration.
    Hope this helps -

  • Pshop or Premiere to unify a series of time lapse stills ?

    Hi,
Does Premiere Pro CS3 have an inbuilt ability to unify the appearance of a series of stills taken at varying times throughout the day ?
I have taken photos on a fixed focal length, from the same position, all on the same shutter speed priority setting, of a scene as a building in it changed over the course of that day.
I wish to unify their appearance so that in the video I make of them, as I fade from one to the next the building changes but the rest of the scene generally stays constant regards appearance. They were all taken on a digital slr (Canon) in RAW mode.
What is the best way to do so. Is this a job for Premiere or Photoshop ?
Is this best dealt with in the RAW converter Pshop window prior to conversion to tiff ?
A step by step explanation is ideally sought if Premiere, as opposed to 'use the *&^% tool' .
I have asked over at Pshop for a method should it be that program I need to use.
This could be of use for anyone doing timelapse stills.
I will align these in Photoshop as a psd file as layers taking solid features that remained visible throughout as my alignment reference points, then crop to a suitable size to encompass all bearing in mind the proportion required for the video format and resize to a suitable video making resolution then get them into Premiere and fade between them.
I have Windows Pshop CS2 and awaiting installation is CS4. I also have Premiere Pro CS3
    Cheers
    Envirographics

This is a perfect job for PPro, however you will need to use PS to batch resize the images before importing them into PPro if they are more than twice the size of your project's frame size.
So, step one is to resize the images.
Step two will be to import the images, not as a numbered sequence of stills.
Step three will be to "automate to sequence", selecting the "apply default transition" option.
See Add clips to a sequence automatically in the PPro Help for further details.
You will also find links to many free tutorials in the PremiereProPedia that will quickly show you how things are done in Premiere Pro.

  • New ipod touch to make time lapse video

I realize it might be too early to ask since the new ipod touch just came out, but does anyone know if there might be a setting or app to shoot time lapse stills?

Slowed my computer down to unusability, missing (or hidden so I couldn't find them) things I consider key features (tag editing, smart playlists, podcasts). Doesn't appear to do anything I can't already do with iTunes. The Amazon Downloader already adds any of my purchases to my iTunes library.
Oh, and it never recognized my Touch (3.1.2) so I don't know how it would have worked. Would it have synced? Or would I have been stuck with tediously dragging and dropping things?
Given what it did to my computer, I'm unlikely to spend much time trying to get it to work. Perhaps it works better on a Windows box but I don't think I want to subject my low horsepower netbook to it.
    Best of luck.

  • IMovie '11, still images as frames for time lapse problem

As strange as this may seem, I cannot find a way to change the stills I import to just be 1 frame each in iMovie '11.  That is, I have 30 still images (a time lapse) that I want to put together for a 1 second sequence (i.e. 30 frames per second).  The slowest I can seem to get is down to is 1 frame per second which gives me a total time of 30 seconds, which makes it useless.
Are still images able to be set to 1 image per frame? Am I missing something?
Thanks for any help you can provide.
    -Matt

You can do this in iMovie but it is quite cumbersome.
Long-time contributor Jon Walker created this Video Tutorial to show how to do this.
The Tutorial is for iMovie 08, but I verified that it still works for iMovie 11.
There are better tools for Stop Motion, including iStopMotion and QuickTime Pro. After doing it in iMovie, you may see why.

  • Photoshop/Premiere Elements 13...are either capable of making time lapse movies from still images?

Photoshop/Premiere Elements 13...are either capable of making time lapse movies from still images? I heard this feature was removed from Premiere 13, after I purchased it  =(

It am not understanding clearly what program is not closing
    Photoshop Elements
    or
    Premiere Elements
There is the AdobePremiereElements.exe for Premiere Elements (video editing) and the PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe for Photoshop Elements (photo editing).
Right now you keep mentioning Premiere Elements, but I am seeing your description more like Photoshop Elements.
Please clarify so that we can focus on the correct program and try to resolve its problems.

  • How to mix time lapse with still images and imported movies ?

    Hello
I have been shooting photos (time lapse with Camera Pro) and movies with a Nokia N8 and would love to use iMovie to mount all that.
Unfortunately, for the time lapse I cannot get the duration of the photos to 0.03s, it just won't accept it. I have been looking around the forum and could only find sort of solutions when you have a transition or effect on the pictures but not when they are just fit to the screen...
So now the time lapse looks much slower and broken than the movie itself... and it does not look nice.
Another way would be to make the time lapse with QT Pro and then import it but I am affraid I am loosing quality in the process.
Anybody knows how to fix this duration problem ?
Thank you in advance for any helpful answer.
    Petri
    Mac OS 10.6.8
    iMovie : 9.0.4

    Able, Jim,
thanks a lot, both solutions work just fine.
Take the first image, adjust the Effects, copy it, select the other images and past attributes
    and
just put all images together, make a new sequence and use that first sequence as nested sequence and put the effects on that

  • I have an image sequence in JPG and when I select open image sequence, select all does not work and I can only highlight one frame at a time.  I want to import these frames into QT7 to make a time lapse clip.  Any suggestions

I have an image sequence in JPG that I want to import into quitck time 7 for making a time lapse clip.   It has an option to open the image sequence, but when I do, it only lets me highlight one frame at a time.  The select all option seems to do nothing when I click on it trying to highlight all the frames.
If QT7 is not designed to perform this function, is there another alternative?   iMovie is non intuitive for this kind of operation and I cannot find a clear tutorial for using it to make time lapse clips from a sequence of still frames.
The tutorials Ive found on YouTube are well intended, but they all seem to leave out a vital step that eludes detection.
      Anyway, any help appreciated.
    Thanks
I am new to this forum and I'm not sure I can locate this thread again once I'm out of it.
    <Email Edited by Host>

Yes, I tried that.   The files were ordered by their original numbers as imported from the camera, but I batched them through Phocoshop to downsize all of them into a more manageable file size.   I opened that destination folder from quick time  from where it said select image sequence.   I clicked on the first one and opened it.   The result was a large image with an arrow indicating a movie was ready to go.   When I pressed the arrow, though, I realized it had only imported that one frame so there was no movie.   The files are Jpgs and are about 450 KB each.
To your knowledge are there any links to iMovie tutorials or quick time tutorials that may address this situation?  Maybe there will be one I haven't looked at yet.
        Thanks

  • Still images per second and "shutter times" for webcams

Hi! I'd like to know how frequent a webcam (such as Optia AF) can take still images (at for example 2 megapixel) and send them to the PC via USB. Also, I'd like to know how long the "shutter time" is for still images, and if it can be adjusted. I want to be able to take sharp still images of moving objects and to process those images in near realtime. What webcam would be good to use for this purpose?I would be grateful for any advice!

Great news. For Time-Lapse, I probably go with 3 - 5 Frames for my Stills Duration most often, but it depends on the look and feel that I am trying to obtain, and also the interval that the shooting took place. Sometimes I end up with less, but sometimes more - it just depends on the look. I usually do a test Project, and Import a few Images at 3 Frames, then play that many times, to see if I like it. If not, then off I go to 4 Frames, etc.. You were going in the other direction, as you already had a good feel for the pacing of your piece - you just needed to do the math to get there.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
