Time line & Canvas gone?

New FCE user, I clicked on the red 'X' in the top of my canvas and of cause it disappeared along with my time line only now I cant get it back... I have tried the command 3 & 4 but nothing. Also they are grey in the 'view' column. Is there anything else I can try to get them back on my screen? Thanks

All sorted I clicked on Sequence one in my clips bin and hey presto it flashed back.

  • Why can i not see the time line and canvas? Also, why am i not able to click on them either?

I am not able to see the time line and canvas in the motion 5.  Also i am not able to click on it either

Try selecting 'revert to original layout' in the window menu. If that doesn't help I would delete Motion preferences in ~/library/preferences/com.apple.motionapp.plist and com.apple.motionapp.LSSharedFileList.plist. You can also try deleting the layouts folder in ~/Library/Application Support//Motion. I assume that at some earlier time Motion was behaving properly. If this problem has occured when you first tried to open it after downloading then I'd reinstall it.

  • IS the audio time line gone?

In older versions there was a time line for adjusting the volume (mixing)
over the period of your movie. I think that is now gone right?
I keep using the older version because I can incrimentally tweek volumes that
clash with other things like dialogue.

So what is a guy to do?
I use (and like) both iMovie 09 and iMovie 06. But when I need the audio time line or better quality I use iMovie 06.
If you like iMovie 06 better, as many do, you can continue to use it. I find that it works perfectly with my Mac Pro, iDVD 09 and the latest Mac OS.

  • My sequence is no longer showing up in the time line!

    Hey,
So I'm working on a DVD video for my nan's funeral and I opened the project and my edited sequence is no longer in the time line! I click on it but nothing shows up. It's as if I haven't done any editing in it yet. But I have and I have saved it. I wasn't too worried because I have time machine so I just went to restore an older version of my project. I did so but it also showed a blank sequence. I went back 2 more times to get even older versions with the same results. I know that my work can not be just gone! I mean I've been saving it and it's been backed up, is there something that I just have turned off by any chance? I'm pretty confused, the whole thing is just so random and unexpected. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

I have the identical issue. Open a project that was fine 12 hours earlier. Now I open the project and all my clips and subclips show up in the browser, but the timeline is empty. Click on sequence 1 - empty. I tried switching my scratch disk from the original external drive to another one that was a mirror copy of the first - changed the scratch disk location. Then had the issue with no sequence data in the timeline. Reverted to original external drive and scratch disk location. Same problem - no sequence data. I can open other previous projects and they're fine. I don't have multiple sequences in my projects - I just build in the timeline, if that has anything to do with the problem. This is very strange. Appreciate any help anyone has.

  • Render file reappears in time line

I have found playback of one section (about 3 sec) my time line does not reflect the actual clips...the playback reverts to what i imagine is an old render file of a different clip. I notice the blue render bar above the new clips. a workaround is to pull the clips back from this blue zone (the blue render bar reappears if i just slide the clips back in place) and then offset the whole sequence from the zone of the erratic render file. when i bring the clips back in, it is gone.
however, when i exported as an mp2, the render file is back in the same spot relative to the new clips!
    any suggestions? thanks!

thank you for your kind suggestions. I will try them next time...I found an indirect workaround which was successful. I had a third video track which was toggled off. I had a couple unused video clips there (unrelated to this rebel render file). I removed the clips and the track, and did not have the problem of the rogue renderf ile again. don't ask me why....
thanks for all your thoughts and suggestions!
oh and by the way, I meant "mpeg 2" by the mp2.

  • Bleep on audio on time line

hi all i am new to fc when i have cut up my footage and put it on the time line there is just a bleeping sound on the audio tracks when played. however when scrubbing through the time line i can hear the right audio. it also plays in the viewer and canvas windows not sure what is wrong please help

Your audio format does not match your sequence settings.
Time to have a read through the intro sections of the manual - it does a good job explaining the issues.

  • When I drag the imported video files to the time-line it only recognizes audio - would anyone know why?

This happened 2 days ago. Before everything was working normal. Since yesterday each time I import a video and drag it to the time line, it only allows me the drag the audio portion of the file. Even those files which I uploaded several days earlier and
worked perfectly fine - now even those files are only showing audio when dragged to the timeline. I hope I didn't make my question too confusing.
I have adobe premier PRO CC 2014 and I bought it vie creative cloud.
Would anyone know why is this happening all of the sudden?

  • Scary Message Every Import  from my Sony PMW 320 XDCAM EX  Clip Files w/ Completed Time LIne

    Hello
This is the 3rd question I've posted working my way through my first edit (and HD edit) with Premiere Pro CS5.5, and I have a completed time line with the basic edit for an important event, my first for a client I hope to work for again.  Am now working on the title sequence at the beginning and also a "recap" with music and highlights at the very end.  Then I will be trying my first burn to a bluray -R disk on the LG 12x internal BRD unit in a high performance Mac Pro I had built at OWC.  10.7.5 Lion currently.
    3 types of files:
    1.  1080i 29.97 upper frame first, standard 1080i settings......from my B camera footage from a Sony NEX 5N.  28mbps I believe.  Example clip:  00018.MTS.  No issues or messages on the imports into the Project window.
    2.  Backup files same settings but 50mbps from Nanoflash recorder attached to my PMW 320 camcorder through the HD SDI output.  Example clip:  01253001.MTX.
Both of these above I just dragged their entire folders onto my internal master 2 disc Raid 0.  And then imported just the "clips" from each into the project window in each's own bin or folder.
    3.  Same scenario with my main files copying them from the large camcorder.  Example clip:  159_0221_01.MP4.  35mbps.  All 3 of these types of files have 29.97 fps indicated to the right.
But in the Project window when I selected initially all the clips from the drop downs inside the folder from the PMW 320 on the Master drive, and since then just some individual clips.....I keep getting this::  A window with "File Import Failure" in the top header and 5 lines of all the Volume codings within that Folder in the message box, and below it, "Error Message"  "File format not supported"  with an active "OK" button.  Which I have clicked and then gone ahead and worked with them.
But the clips in question are all in the project window and load fine into the Program Window or drag fine directly to the time line.  I have completed the whole sequence save for what I mentioned above.  Color correction, audio adjustments, slo motion, freeze frames, transitions, everything.  I have even taken a short piece of the time line and done experimental exports to self contained "Animation" codec clip,  H.264 clip and an MPEG 4 clip.  All were successful.  Last step coming soon will be export to 1080i 29.97 bluray.
I believe I have seen "MPEG 4" in the codec info on the PMW 320's clips.  Being that Premiere is supposed to handle every codec no problem, and that it seems to have done just that, what is going on here with these messages??  I have a ton of hours into this 1st edit and it all seems to work.  Do I not need to worry about this message even if I don't understand why I am getting it?
    Thanks much
    Ron

All that shows is the clips themselves, but yes I guess that could be happening.  So in the future from the PMW 320 import them 1st into Media Browser and then to the Project window?  (before taking them to Source window or directly to the time line)  Or just leave them in the Media Browser, and work it from there?
In the meantime, the fact it has all worked and seems to be working, would you think I'm OK since I've been able to do up to a massive 156gb Animation codec 16 minute portion of the sequence while I was first experimenting?   I am likely going to try the Dynamic Link function and Auto settings into Encore, straight from my time line of around 90 minutes.  Per the suggestion of Ann here in one of my other threads asking about that part.  Just to see if I can mail it on time on Tuesday if it looks good.

  • Can anyone help. I need to reuse my SDHC cards and transfer footage from an ongoing profect to a hard drive. Can i edit from the Hard drive or am I better transferring info striaight from camera to time line

Hi I am using a JVC GY-HM100 camera which is meant to work well with final cut pro.  I have an ongoing project but need to save money and resuse the SDHC cards that are currently full of footage.
Would I be better off transferring the footage straight to the time line (as rumour has it you can do this with this camera) or store the footage on a hard drive and edit it later without risk of losing the footage.
    Many thanks
    Lindabob

    Thanks Linda,
Here's some more info for you:
This is my pet checklist for questions regarding FCP X performance - you may have already addressed some of the items but it's worth checking.
Check the spec of your Mac against the system requirements:
    http://www.apple.com/finalcutpro/specs/
Check the spec of your graphics card. If it's listed here, it's not suitable:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4664
Make sure you're using the latest version of the application - FCP X 10.0.3 runs very well on my 2009 MacPro 2 x 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon with 16 GB RAM and ATI Radeon HD 5870 1024 MB. I run it with Lion 10.7.3.
Check that you have at least 20% free space on your system drive.
If you have not already done so, move your Projects and Events to a fast (Firewire 800 or faster) external HD. Make sure the drive's formatted OS Extended (journalling's not required for video). You should always keep at least 20% free space on the Hard Drives that your Media, Projects and Events are on.
If you are getting crashes, there is some conflict on the OS. Create a new (admin) user account on your system. Do NOT import any of the settings etc from the old account - simply use FCP X from there - if it runs a lot better, there's a conflict and a clean install would be recommended - but remember, if you reinstall the system, and then use Migration Assistant (or anything else) to import all your old settings etc etc, you may well be importing the cause of the conflict in the first place.
Keep projects to 20 mins or less (about half that for Multicam). If you have a long project, work on short sections, make them into Compound Clips and then paste these into a final project for export.
If you ever experience dropped frames, I strongly recommend you use ProRes 422 Proxy - it edits and plays back like silk because the files are small but lightly compressed (not much packing and unpacking to do) - but remember to select 'Original or Optimised Media' (FCP X Preferences > Playback) just before you export your movie, otherwise it will be exported at low resolution.
If you have plenty of processor power, for the ultimate editing experience, create Optimised Media - most camera native files are highly compressed and need a great deal of processor power to play back - particularly if you add titles, filters or effects. ProRes 422 takes up much more hard drive space but is very lightly compressed. It edits and plays back superbly.
Hide Audio Waveforms at all times when you don't need them (both in Browser and Storyline / Timeline). They take up a lot of processor power. (Use the switch icon at the bottom-right of your timeline to select a format without waveforms if you don't need them at the moment, then switch back when you do).
Create folders in the Project and Events libraries and put any projects you are not working on currently, in those folders. This will help a lot. There's a great application for this, called Event Manager X - for the tiny cost it's an invaluable application.
    http://assistedediting.intelligentassistance.com/EventManagerX/
Unless you cannot edit and playback without it, turn off Background Rendering in Preferences (under Playback) - this will help general performance and you can always render when you need to by selecting the clip (or clips) and pressing Ctrl+R.
The biggest single improvement I saw in performance was when I upgraded the RAM from 8 GB to 16.

  • How to keep date time line in  collected alert message in linux platform

    Hi Friends,
In linux server for 11g oracle. how do I keep date time line for each error message?
    example as
    cat alert_test.log | grep 'ORA'
    grep 'ORA' alert_test.log
    I like output as
    Mon Aug 20 01:54:29 2012
    ORA-01560 caused by SQL...........
I know we can use diag... But I want to some linux command for my debug.
    Thanks
    newdba

Another option is to make your alert log accessible as an external table.
    Demo here:
    http://www.morganslibrary.org/reference/externaltab.html
Find "alert log" on the page. Add a numeric column to the table and create a sequence and you can put in a surrogate row number that will allow you to pull sections using LEAD and LAG as you please.

  • Solution for: no audio in time line - conforming issues - unspecified error occurred

these are all the same issue and i have the solution for it.
Adobe has once again let down the non professional user but ignoring this bug. They have also deleted alot of my other posts on the adobe forums.. perhaps so you cannot receive help from me?? who freakin knows..
    b Problem:
you import your footage and there is no audio in the time line. you see the audio clip there but no information in it. some people say its because of MPEG format but MPEG files works fine in Windows Movie Maker, Ulead, Pinnacle, Sony Vegas.. etc...
let it be known that its an Adobe Premiere issue.
    b Solution:
    b step 1:
    close adobe premiere
    b step 2:
open My Computer and go to tools at the top. From the drop down menu go to folder options. In folder options click the view tab. In the advanced settings section where it says 'Hidden files and folders' make sure 'show hidden files and folders' is selected.
    b step 3:
open My computer and go to c:\ drive > Documents and settings. Now click into your user name (NOT 'All users') in my case its 'proGamer'. Now click into 'Application Data' > 'Adobe' > 'common' > 'Media Cache Files'.
    b step 4:
in this folder find the files you were just trying to import by searching the name. in my case its file: 20081217030338. you will now see 3 different file types with the same file name you were importing: CFA, PEK, MPGINDEX. delete them all!
    b step 5:
go back and open adobe premiere, open up your project again and it will automatically recreate those files you just deleted. hopefully correctly.
    b NOTE:
If this hasn't worked then open your adobe premiere project, clear all trace of the files with no audio and start again from step 1. then after step 5 just import the files back into your project.
This has proved to work with every file i've imported that had the audio not conformed.
    b your second option:
simply play your clip in WMV or VLC or what ever player you use and record the audio in real time in stereo by using some music editing like cubase or logic audio. you can also use something more friendly like 'recordpad' found here: http://www.nch.com.au/recordpad/screenshots.html now you can buy it from these guys or get it how ever else you like
    lemme know how u go

    dmd,
I've read plenty of places that they know about the bug and are going to fix it. Will from Adobe said so in a few older posts. It's also listed as an issue in the 4.0.1 readme.
I agree that this is the most screwed up Adobe release ever but I doubt they're deleting your posts to hide it. Never know though.....
"Adobe has once again let down the non professional user but ignoring this bug" I actually wish Adobe would forget the consumers and make Premiere Pro more friendly to professionals. Dozens of multimillion dollar movies have been edited with Avid and Final Cut over the past few years. Adobe doesn't put forth any effort make Premiere a pro application. Because they pander to the consumers and prosumers they end up messing up the product for everybody.
Premiere Elements is for consumers, Premiere Pro should be for the 'Pros'

  • How do I go directly from one frame to another particular frame which is far away in the time line? (e.g the two frames are separated by 100 frames)

How do I go directly from one frame to another particular frame which is far away in the time line? (e.g the two frames are separated by 100 frames). I mean, is it possible to take the playhead from one frame to another frame directly which is 100 frames away in the time line? Thanks for any reply.

In the Timeline, go to the first frame and press M to put a marker on it. Go to the other frame you want to jump to and put a marker on that one too.
Now press Ctrl+Semicolon to go to the previous marker - or Ctrl+Comma to go to the next marker.

  • Multiple use of the same video time line for different audio tracks

    I have a 90 minute video timeline
I will be putting different audio tracks in multiple languages.
But as i was just editing i wondered if i could use only a segment (30 minutes ) of the timeline
along with a 30 minute audio.
    Example:
So the first thing on the menu will be the whole 90 minute video
with a 90 minute music track
Second thing might be the 90 minute video with a 90 minute commentary
Third thing might be the first 30 minutes of video with a different commentary
Forth thing on the menu might be the first 30 minutes of video and 30 minutes of
    a different language
    Etc.
I realize i will need to make space (mb)  for all the audio.....but if i could use the same video or pieces of it
    that would be fantastic.
If i can do this i am presuming i should use playlists and chapter playlists to get it done?
I have never done this before and would love some feedback on an over view or tips
that might save me some guess work
    Thanks for any help :-)

    Hey Stan!
Thanks for your help...i think i am really getting this. And have learned a lot.
I had to go back to my computer programming and flowcharting skills to figure out the flow :-)
And i still have 153mb to spare when i build it.
I ended up lining up all the different videos and audios exactly for each time line except for 1 timeline.
Question: I know if the audio is shorter it will be ok.... but if the audio is longer than the video on a timeline ( and its the audio i assigned it by specify link )
Will the DVD keep playing until the audio is done or end when the video is done playing?
2nd Question: I am previewing the playlists with the "Preview from Here" feature
I specify the link and chapter within that timeline ( it is the only timeline with more than one chaper....the one with the longer audio than video from the question above )
For most of the audios i only need video chapter 1.....the preview here plays it ok but if i hit the skip to next (in the preview button on theright of the play button)...it goes to the next chapter #2... instead of the next timeline chapter 1 like it is programed to do from the playlist.
I am wondering if this is just fluke in the preview feature...or will it do that on the actual DVD as well?
Lastly because i am using different timelines. I am wondering if there are delays between playlists? for example...i have a long audio that continues between three timelines...i have spliced it pretty fine so it picks up perfectly on the next timeline...but i am wondering if the DVD when playing in realtime will have a little black space inbetween timelines.
Thanks again for your help and time :-)
    Mark
    Hiya Mark.
DVD-Video is video dominant, with the audio always following the visuals so if the audio ends berfore the video it will not (okay, should not) be a problem.
However, the other way around could go either way - if the actual video timeline has ended the audio may well truncate so I would personally add videoblack at the very least.
I am also not at all sure how you are going to work a single contiguous audio file across 3 separate playlists. This sounds flawed in concept to me (have I misunderstood your meaning?). In DVD-Video the format is graphically/visually dominant - the audio must always be tied to a visual asset be it a menu or a timeline - so there is no way to have one piece of audio playing across 3 timelines and having it play back glitch free whilst the timeline changes. You will not get a black space - it will simply stop. So unless I have misunderstood you in some way.........
As Stan says, preview is flaky - the only way to know for sure is to multiplex & burn.

  • How do I get the full size of my pics or video into the time line?

    Greetings,
I've nener been part of a forum before and an wondering if this will actually be taken seriously. I'm new to video editing and know little about the program I am using (Adobe Premiere Pro CC). Would someone please advise me as to how I can add the full size video or pics to the time line. It appears whenever I add something from my Gopro 3 HD camera I only get a partial of the video / pic.
