Time machine - any way to know what's new?

I started a Time Machine backup recently and saw that it had 250 GB of new content to back up, which didn't seem right to me, so I stopped the back up and have temporarily disabled TM so I can figure out where the additional files are.  Is there any way to see what files/folders Time Machine believes to be newly added or moved?  Or, is there a way to see what's been added to a backup once is complete?
This happened after I installed Yosemite on a separate boot drive, and some programs along with it, but I've explicitly told TM to ignore that boot volume.  It's possible that in the process I accidentally installed or copied some files to a separate HD which contains files used for both my Mountain Lion and Yosemite volumes, and which IS backed up by TM.  (This is a Mac Pro tower, I have 4 drives in there with a few boot volumes and a couple volumes for data.)
Any help would be much appreciated.

No. Apple can do nothing. For the future there are apps that will periodically email you the device's location (if connected to internet)

  • Time machine: any way to eliminate listing a disk as a potential Time Machine target?

    Hi,
I have an external drive partitioned into two partitions, we'll say "ExternalData" and "ExternalTimeMachine". Due to the fact that I backup to the network at one location and to this external drive at another, I have to go in and manually pick the drive in "Open Time Machine Preferences | Select Disk..."
I never want to backup to ExternalData, so I'd like a way to tell Time Machine that that's not a valid target, and therefore only present me with "ExternalTimeMachine". Is this possible? I once saw a file on another system called ".com.apple.timemachine.donotpresent" and made a zero-length file of that name in the root of "ExternalData" and made it owned root:admin, but the ExternalData disk still shows up as a valid choice in Time Machine.

Hi, not certain, but see if this helps...

An anonymous submitter sent this in as a hint; I'm listing it here as an alternative to this hint:
This has to do with Time Machine and presenting the dialogue when a suitable drive is mounted. If a file name ".com.apple.timemachine.donotpresent" is in the root directory of the Hard Drive, then it seems to disable the dialogue.
One issue seems to be that to make this file appear, you have to first connect the drive, which will generate the warning dialog ... and if you say "no," then this value is set anyway (so it won't be asked again for that drive).
Well, nope, I give up here after a couple of hours trying the above & more!
But then I've never liked TM, I use...

  • There's any way of knowing what Support Package we had implemented?

    Hi!
I need to know if exists a kind of "history" of the system. I mean, a trx that shows you when you implemented X support package and when.
My problem is that I need to implement some oss notes to a z program that is a copy of an standard. The z program was created (copied) some years ago.
I need to know the Support Package that we had at that time because I need to check if the prerequisites applies to the Z version.
I you don't understand what I need, please tell me...
    Thanks in advance!
    Bet

If you got the <b>SNOTE</b> transaction, you don't need to care about support packages -;)
Just pass the OSS note and the system is going to tell you if it can be implemented -:D

  • Is there any way to know what projects have budget/cost updates certain day

    Hi all,
We want to develop a program running everyday to detect all projects that have budget or cost updates that day. As far as I can see, the following tables might be involved: PROJ, PRPS, RPSCO, AUFK, COSS, COSP, BPJA, BPGE. But among the listed tables, only PROJ and PRPS have the timestamp fields. I'm wondering whenever the budget or cost value is updated, will any one of the 2 tmestamp filelds get updated?
Any hint or help is very much appreciated.

If it is a command line tool and you just what the total time do as tony wrote,
If you need to run it from Xcode or are looking for more detail you can use the Instruments package. Select Product->Profile then select Time Profiler.

Is there any way to know how much time swing client is on open state? My requirement is to show a message some time after the swing client open i.e., 4-5 hours.

You could also consider using javax.swing.Timer and java.awt.event.ActionListener (or javax.swing.Action) which takes care of running the actionPerformed code on the EDT.

Turns out my son had a mail filter on and had redirected the email to another folder, hence decline all knowledge of it! I got the invoice as one transaction the following morning. All OK.
Suggest you check to ensure the email address is valid and being sent to the right folder. Also check your invoice the following day as it will confirm the address you sent the gift to.

  • Is there any way to know when an app is going to be discontinued?

I purchased an app around eight months ago for $13. I forgot about it until I was reloading apps onto my new IPad. When I went to find it, it was no longer in the app store at all. I contacted the support people who told me that since it was "so long ago" there was no recourse.  So does that mean that any time you purchase an app it could disappear at any moment? Is there any way to know in advance that this will happen?  Never mind that it stinks to spend that amount of money and then have nothing to look back at.
Additionally, I have had trouble reloading apps that I have paid for as an "in app purchase".  What is the deal with that?  Is that information not stored like buying an app outright?
    Thanks
    DTC

Apple constantly reminds folks to backup their content. Apple warns folks all of the times that content may not always be available in the iTunes or Mac App Stores and most folks ignore the warnings or cannot be bothered to read them. No, unless the developer warns you that they are with drawing an app from one of the stores, there is no way to know in advance that an app may no longer be available.

  • Any way to know the last location of a erased device?

    Hi, pals.
I want to know if it is possible to know the location where a device started being erased. I'll briefly tell you the circumstances:
-. Last May, 20th, in the morning —the approximated time is important— my iPod Touch (5th gen.) disappeared. Not sure if it was stolen or accidentaly sent to the trash (the physical trashcan, you know).
-. I can not tell it for sure, but I think on the morning or noon of May, 21st, I commanded iCloud to erase the device, because by that time I was almost completely sure I wouldn't get it back. Until that moment, I tried to track it several times on the same web with no results.
-. I have received a message from iCloud this afternoon (June, 10th). I will translate it from Spanish, for I don't know what the exact message in English is, but I guess you'll get the main idea:
Elias' iPod Touch started being erased at 22:20, May, 20th, 2013. Every multimedia file, data and settings will be permanently deleted.
If you recover your iPod Touch, it is possible that some services will not start inmediately after its restoration.
I received the email from iCloud some 2 hours ago. If I log on iCloud right now and select the location of my iPod on Find my iPhone, it says: 'Content erased 2 hours ago'.
It also says: 'The location of this iPod Touch will not be updated because its content has been deleted'.
    Here are my main questions:
1.- What is the right time of the erasing? May, 20th —as the email says— or 2 hours ago, on June, 10th —as iCloud states—?
2.- I am pretty sure I did not command the iPod to be erased as soon as May, 20th. Would iCloud tell me if the device has been erased, even if the process started before I set it?
3.- In case the answer to question #2 is affirmative, and it was actually erased on May 20th, why does iCloud send me that message today? Aren't the settings on the device supposed to have been deleted 20 days ago? Isn't the iPod supposed not to be linked to my iTunes account anymore? I guess that if it was erased 20 days ago, and if my iTunes account isn't active on it, it wouldn't know it's mine even if it was connected to the Internet today.
4.- And the question: Is there any way to know the location where the iPod started being erased? This last one is important for it would help me know if the iPod was stolen or accidentally dumped.
I will thank your replies. Cheers,
    Elías.

Only if you had previously installed an app that would periodically email you its location. Not that the iPod has to br on and connected to the internet.

  • When I go to restore my phone; is there any way to pick what you want back on your phone or do you have to get everything backed up?

When I go to restore my phone; is there any way to pick what you want back on your phone or do you have to get everything backed up?

Thank you.  I was afraid of that.  I backed up from iCloud.  I looked at the iTunes one - it had four different ones on there; was hoping I could see because my grandson's phone was redone last year (his mom messed it up then) and didn't know anything was backed up to iTunes.  He lost a lot of stuff that time. I'm just trying to get his phone back to par after someone changed his passcode on him as a joke and forgot what they changed it to a few days ago.  They should change it so one could go in and pick what they want or don't want.  Thank you again for your time.  I do appreciate it.

trying to update from 10.6.8 to Lion. Refuses to load because HD used for Time Machine updates. Anyone know how I solve this? Chris

What do you mean you're in the process of "downloading the installer for 10.7.3"? If you mean the software update combo, you won't be able to use that to go from 10.7.4 to 10.7.3. The only way you could do that is to reinstall the whole OS from the App Store IF that version is 10.7.3. I don't know if the App store Lion installer includes 10.7.4 already, but if it does, you can't get to 10.7.3 at all.
As for what you do about your slow machine, there are tips all over the internet. I wrote up some of the basic one's to try here:
    http://applehelpwriter.com/2011/12/05/why-is-my-mac-running-so-slow/
Other possibilities not mentioned there are either a corrupt install of Lion (solution; re-install from the Recovery disk) or hardware failure (old hard disks and other hardware components can sometimes give out there last after the strain of a new install).

  • Any ways to know which is the latest track ?

    Hi there,
I am in deep trouble now.
I record my friend singing. I also video him singing separately.
The problem is that I did 5 takes, all on a separate track.
I know on the video side, the latest one is the correct video. Problem is I don't know which track is correct track to sync with the video.
Any ways to see what time the track are recorded at ?
    Thanks

If you absolutely need to, you can go into the GarageBand project itself and look at the creation times of the media. Just be careful while rooting around in there.
    1. right click (control-click) the GarageBand project.
    2. Select "Show Package Contents"
    3. Open the Media Folder
    4. Select the files and look at the creation dates/times via the column view or list view.
Once you you have determined the correct file, hold down option and drag it to the desktop. Holding down option while dragging and dropping will create a copy of the file as opposed to moving it. (We don't want to move it.)
Then, Open GarageBand, Create a new Project, and drag the new audio file onto the time line.
    Hope this helps!

  • Any way to know the source table of a Form at  runtime

    Hi,
Is there any way to know the source table/view.. of a form at run time.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
    But Get_Block_Property( ..., DML_DATA_TARGET_NAME)
should be coded, I mean any way to know at the
runtime, as like we get the Error from the
Help->Display Errors. If you are asking if there is a way to get this information from the default menu, then the answer is no. However, you can create your own custom menu, or a button in your form that displays that information using the Get_Block_Property when you click on your menu item or button.
