Time machine backing up iCal events and Contacts with icloud

Is Time Machine backing up my iCal events and contacts? The reason I ask is because I have it set so they are stored ONLY on iCloud, NOT locally. Is this getting backed up too by Time Machine? I hope so! Because, if something were to fail, or if I were ever to accidentally delete a contact, I might like to be able to travel to the past and recuperate that contact.
Thanks for your insight,
Greg

Hope you will see this... I had the exact same question and need to be sure what I understand. It is easiest for me to have all contacts, calender contacts only as iCloud rather than machine based. But I want to be sure if there is a massive error on icloud (I have had them on mobile me, me.com) that I can restore from my external hard drive where I do regular time machine backups. How does that work? Does the time machine recognise what is on the calendar regardless of its origin (cloud, gmail, exchange) and then restore it to the machine. At which point I would need to manually edit them all to put them in the right cloud based storage??

  • HT3748 since upgrading to Mountain Lion, my Mac Mail no longer works well w/exchange email; so, I have had to switch back to outlook. Now, how can I use outlook for mac's calendar and contacts with icloud?

Since uprgading to Mountain Lion, my mac mail no longer works with my exchange email properly. I finally gave up and moved back to outlook for mac, but now my new issue is using outlook calendar and contacts with icloud; possible?

Sorry but I'm really not to sure what I have. I'm not good with knowing my computer model. All I know is that its a MacBook running with Leopard. I got my computer last year so I suppose its fairly new. Is there a place on my computer where I can check to see what it is (sorry to be so dumb with my own mac)
And everything else works fine. I love Safari. It's just my mail that doesn't work. Here's the message that pop up several times.
"The MobileMe IMAP server “mail.mac.com” rejected the password for user “akcastaldo”
Please re-enter your password, or cancel."
The only problem here is, even though I enter my password it doesn't do anything. It makes that message go away for about 3-5 mins. After that it pops right back up. And I can't even go into my preference and change my email password. So I don't know what to do.

  • Does time machine back up I Cal, Mail, Contacts and can they be easily located and restored?

My ICal and Mail and Address Book files are very large and I'm used to backing them up all the time from when I used a PC with Outlook. Now, can I rely on Time Machine to do it for me? And if needed, can I easily locate them and fully restore them

Definitely - doesn't matter how large the files are; they will be backed up via Time Machine and you can restore at your leisure.

  • HT201250 How can I make sure time machine backed up my photos and music?

I recently got a new MacBook Pro, and I sucsessfully transferred all of my information onto my new computer from my old MacBook. I also bought a new external hard drive. I used Time Machine to back it all up. It says that it transferred everything, but all I can see are the Applications. I want to be sure that I have it backed up in two places before I erase my old hard drive and sell my old computer.
    Thanks for the help.

When you enter Time Machine and navigate to a snapshot, you see only applications? Nothing in your home folder, for example?

  • Can time machine back up an imac and an external hard drive?

I currently back up my imac via time machine but to reduce space on my hard drive I want to move my itunes library onto an external hard drive. If i do this can time machine still back up my imac and the external hard drive with the itunes library on automatically?

yes, given enough space on the destination drive (your library may grow over time). also, the drive needs to be connected directly to your Mac.
you might want to make sure the drive is not excluded from TM backups by checking in system preferences > time machine > options.
also, as for moving your iTunes library, see this read for tips/instructions.

  • Time Machine backing up 19.9GB and the source disk has barely changed

Time Machine currently backing up 19.9 GB when my source disk has barely changed since this it last backed up earlier this afternoon.
What would be causing this and how can I find out why it thinks it needs to back up so much stuff. It there a way to find out what it is backing up?
    Help!

If you mean by +archiving the TM disk+ that you intend to stop using that hard drive and use another, or you intend to copy the contents of this drive to another (see caveat below) then yes. If you mean compress the contents...I don't know. TM is doing some rather interesting things behind the scenes and I don't know if you could compress and then decompress it later and have it work.
caveat: apparently not every backup program can copy the contents of a TM disk to another so it can be used to restore the files. One that I know of is SuperDuper!

Hoping for some help with a very frustrating issue!
I have been syncing calendar and contacts on my iPhone 5 and Outlook 2007 using iCloud  2.1.3 (my PC is running Vista). All was well until the events I entered on the phone were showing up in Outlook, but not the other way around. I’ve tried the usual recommended steps: deselecting calendar and contacts in the iCloud control panel and then re-selecting, signing out of the panel and back in, and repairing the Outlook installation in control panel.  I even uninstalled iCloud on the PC and downloaded it again (same version).
The furthest I’ve gotten is step 2 (and once, step 3) of 7 while performing “Outlook Setup For iCloud.” At that point I get, “Your setup couldn’t be started because of an unexpected error.”  After the first attempt at all this, all my calendar events disappeared from Outlook, although they are still in iCloud calendar and on my phone.
Sound familiar?  Any ideas on how to solve this iCloud/Outlook issue?  Thanks much in advance!

  • I am having problems with a slow Firewire 400 Time machine back up., I am having problems with a slow Firewire 400 Time machine back up.

I have tried rebooting my mac after clearing the incomplete backup from time machine (TM).
I don't have any anti-virusware on my mac.
    I have tried quiting finder.
None of these things have improved my TM back up speed.
Considering that I am using a 400mbps firewire and that it has been runing TM for 3 hrs, I should have more than 5 gb out of 194gb out of the way.
Can anyone suggest a solution to this problem?
    Thanks KW

  • Time Machine Back Up 3rd Hard Drive to 4th Hard Drive

    Hey All Geniuses . . . .
I have a third internal hard drive that I want to back up to a fourth internal hard. I already have my Time Machine backing up my first hard drive (with the OS) to the second hard drive. I can't figure out how to separate the "back ups" out. Just to be clear: the date on hard drive three will be different from hard drive one and two, and have to backed up to hard drive four exclusively. Cheers, mate

Hi, and welcome to the forums.
    Lyssa is correct.
TM can back-up multiple drives/partitions, and each source volume is shown separately in the TM interface, but it's destination must be a single volume. It is possible, of course, for that single volume to be a concatenated Raid set, but that doesn't seem to be what you want.
CCC can do this, however. It's donationware, so you can try it out free (but do send some $$ if you keep it, so they can keep it up to date). I think SD can do it also, but you'll need the paid version (about $30 I think) for it to do updates instead of replacements.
You'll probably want to continue with TM on your OSX drive, as it's incremental backups of many files and folders are much faster than either CCC's or SD's will be.
Either is available via Google, VersionTracker.com, or MacUpdate.com.

  • Does time machine back up my applications

does time machine back up my applications and passwords?

Time Machine makes a backup of everything stored on the OS X partition, so the applications and passwords will be backed up unless you have them in another partition. If you want more information about Time Machine, see > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1427

  • Time machine back up- not enough space  so can't back up?

hi my computer entire hard drive is 2TB and only 1Tb used. and my external hard drive(time machine back-up) is 2TB. and right now Time machine back up failed. and keep saying that hard drive don;t have enough space....
i erase all from external hard drive ,, back up NEW. and still saying that not enough space on back up drive, weird thing is and i have 2.8 TB to back up.. but my entire hard drive is only 2TB .. what is that? and i only used 1.1 TB ish..
somebody help me? how can i use time machine back up with this issue?

What's shown for +Estimated size of full backup+ under the exclusions box in TM Preferences > Options?
If that's over the 1.1 TB used, there are a couple of possibilities:
Another internal or external drive, formatted for a Mac, is connected but not excluded, so Time Machine is trying to back it up, too. Exclude it, per #10 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).
Something on your internal HD is corrupted, making Time Machine think it's much larger than it really is. Verify your internal HD, per #A5 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).

  • Time machine back up taking 1 day so removed external HD, now taking TWO days?

    Hi,
I started my time machine back up last night and the estimated time it said it would take was 1 day. I woke up this morning and there was still another 15 hours left. I am only backing up 533GB - is this normal?
I thought maybe my external drive was effecting the backup so I removed it and when I did the time machine started again, now backing up 324 GB but says it's going to take TWO days?! This makes no sense.
Could someone tell me - is it normal for TM to take a day to back up 533GB (certainly can't be normal for 324GB to take TWO)?
And what are the general tips for helping time machine move faster? I'm running OSX 10.8.5.
    Thanks

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We're users here and don't speak for "Apple Inc."
How is your (external, I'm assuming) Time Machine storage connected? USB 2, USB 3, FireWire, Thunderbolt, or Ethernet network? If network, then is the storage drive connected with Ethernet or a USB device connected to the network router? 100Mbit or Gigabit Ethernet? Does your MacBook Pro have a wired or wireless connection to the network?
If it's over a network, to a Time Capsule or another NAS (Network Area Storage) device then yes, it could take a day or longer. If your Time Machine drive is Thunderbolt-attached, then that seems a bit long, but there are a number of variables, including the size(s) of the files and types of files(s), and whether they're compressed or encrypted.
My mid-2007 MacBook (1.5Mbit/sec theoretical maximum SATA speed, 3GB usable RAM, 500GB 7200rpm hard drive) took almost two and a half days to back up 350GB to a network-attached Lenovo/iomega server I use for Time Machine via a wireless connection. I don't recommend wireless, by the way, because when verification fails (quite often in my experience), then TM erases all the old backups and demands to begin anew. It required about 18 hours to back up the MacBook when directly connected by RJ-45 Cat 5e cable over Gigabit Ethernet on both devices.
My mid-2011 iMac backs up 350GB via FireWire 800 to a 1TB Time Machine drive in an estimated 11 hours. (I don't know precisely, I went to bed and it was done in the morning.
Time Machine (and most every OS X update and App installation program, for that matter) seems to be quite incapable of predicting ACCURATELY exactly how long the process will take.
I also use CarbonCopyCloner to create a bootable system backup occasionally, so I'm not stuck for a day and a half of restoring from TM just to get back up and running.

  • Time machine back up other external drive?

    Hi folks,
My HD is filling up fast.  What I need to know is if I move say, my music and photos to an external drive, will time machine back up the music and photos when they reside on the external drive?  I have time machine running on an external drive dedicated to time machine.  I'm using OX Mavericks.
    Thanks,
    Steve

Mine is set up similar.  I use TIME MACHINE as a back up and then my redundant back up is to a 2 terabyte USB External, so now I have everything backed up twice.

It's not Logic that can't find them, it's your Komplete apps, though if you did exaclty as you say I can see no reason why they can't.
Do you know where the apps installed them in the first place? I chose a non-standard locarion for mine, but I'm sure it installs sounds to your documents folder/native instruments/name of app.
Go into the prefs of each app and choose the library location button on the library tab and point it to the relevant folder in documents/native instruments and see if that works

  • Importing iCal events and Address book from Time Machine

How does one import only iCal events and Address book items from a backedup version of Lion using Time Machine for a backup residing on an external HDD?

    See my FAQ*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/entouragemigration.html
Note, you will have to launch Entourage to get the data out into a format that Mail and Addressbook and iCal can then import.
