Time machine backups continue to fail. I keep getting the message Sparse bundle in use
My time machine backups continue to fail. I keep getting the message: sparse bundle occupied. Any suggestions?
Half off all problems seem to be solved by simply powering off a device, waiting a few minutes, and then powering it back up again.
What happens when you do this for the Time Capsule?

Cannot install Mountain Lion on my hard disc, as I keep getting the message" 'This disk is used for Time Machine backups'. Which it isn't - I don't use Time Machine
Check to see if you have a folder named "Backups.backupdb" at the root level of your hard disk. That can cause this error message.

I keep getting the message "iod cannot be used because the apple mobile device service is not started" when i try to sync my ipod to my desktop itunes library.

See the subject line. Anyone know what the problem is?
Also, the back up disk is called "time mac" but when I get to the Selct a Backup page, it says to Restore from: Macintosh HD on MarySmith2 and that is greyed out. Shouldn't it say "time mac". It won't let me choose anything.
Thanks for any help you can give.Hold down the option/alt key while clicking on the Time Machine menu bar and select Verify Backup.

I gave you all the details and I am about to delete firefox for driving me nuts please respond
For Flash, the current version is 11.7. Usually Adobe's installer is able to replace a recent version with the current one but if that is not working, Adobe also supplies an uninstaller to completely remove Flash so you can start fresh. This article has a link: [[Flash Plugin - Keep it up to date and troubleshoot problems]].
For PDF, the plugin check site only considers the 11 series to be current. If you prefer to keep the 10 series (Adobe Reader X or Adobe Acrobat X), you can update to 10.1.7. I suggest using the update feature inside your Adobe Reader/Acrobat product to do that. For Adobe Reader X, use Help > Check for Updates.
Does that help? -
My Seagate external 250GB hard drive ejects improperly without command. I am trying to use Time Machine to backup my macbook via usb cable... I keep getting the message that the disked ejected improperly... Any solutions...
You are not alone. Thousands have this problem, on various models of Macs. Short answer, it has something to do with the disk going to sleep (possibly?). You can't do anything about it and Apple won't address the problem. Maybe you should buy a time capsule. Just keep giving them money and use their proprietary equipment.
For a more complete answer, see this thread (all 65+ pages of it with NO SOLUTION IN SIGHT... except for some 3rd party solutions that sometimes work, sometimes don't): Disk Drive ejecting itself -
I keep getting the message "The backup disk image “/Volumes/Donald Baker's Time Capsul/Donald Baker’s iMac.sparsebundle” could not be accessed (error -1). does anyone know what this means? My time capsule refuses to back up.

I have bought a new computer and backed up off time machine backup now I cannot open photoshop get error code 150 30 help appreciated.?
Have you updated your iTunes on your computer? WIth a device running iOS7, you need iTunes 11.
When you removed iTUnes, did you see something named 'apple mobile device support' or something like it? (The exact name varies from operating system to operating system). If you see that, uninstall it too. That's the drivers for your iPhone and they should self-install when you plug your device in.
If all that is fine, have you checked your cable and USB port? a malfunctioning cable can keep you from syncing. -
Will time machine bacups continue if I don't migrate the account?
Essentially I want to do a clean install of Snow Leopard and then migrate all of my files back. I think there is some garbage on my computer that I don't want, therefore I would rather not migrate my entire user account. However I basically want everything to stay the way it is and want to be able to have access to my old time machine backups as well as tack on new backups. Is this possible? I wanted to know before I attempted anything. Thanks.

it should work if that's what you want to do.
Will the time machine backups continue under a new user account??
TM backs up the whole computer, not an account. it will continue the backup sequence if you choose to do so as I said. but it will make one big full backup after the reinstall. no way around that. -
I had to reformat my OSX 10.5.8 and I can't restore my emails from my time machine backup from an external hard drive - only the latest (post backup) time machine back ups are available to restore. Please can any help? I can find the mail folder in my libraries, but the Restore Button is grayed out
OSX treats the reformatted drive as a different one; it's the same as replacing it, and the old one is no longer connected.
See #E3 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting to see and restore from the "old" drive.
And, you may not want to restore via the Finder; see the blue box in #15 of Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions. -
I am trying to do a full Time Machine Backup to a new external disk. The backup starts, and it says "Time remaining about 4 days." That seems like a very long time, but the real problem is that the computer "logs off" after a few hours, and the backup stops. The system preferences are set to "Never" for Computer sleep and Display sleep. The computer does not ordinarily log off automatically, but it has done this twice since I started the Time Machine backup.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Enter the word "Starting" (without the quotes) in the String Matching text field. You should now see log messages with the words "Starting * backup," where * represents any of the words "automatic," "manual," or "standard." Note the timestamp of the last such message. Clear the text field and scroll back in the log to that time. Select the messages timestamped from then until the end of the backup, or the end of the log if that's not clear. Copy them (command-C) to the Clipboard. Paste (command-V) into a reply to this message.
If all you see are messages that contain the word "Starting," you didn't clear the search box.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don't post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

I just installed a larger hard drive, and used my Time Machine Backup to transfer my files back to the new hard drive. When I open Iphoto, my thumbnails are there, but they aren't linked back to the actual photos. I see the original photo files in my HD. Is there a way to link the Iphoto thumbnails back to the original files?
Use the Firewire cable and t boot the old Mac's hard drive to the new Mac's desktop and transfer your entire iPhoto folder.
Use Disk Utiliy to erase'format HFS+ Journaled your TimeMachine drive and use the free Carbon Copy Cloner and clone your new boot drive to the external, it's hold option bootable. -
I cannot load Maverick on my iMac HD. It reports that my HD is used for Time Machine backups and will not load to that drive. I do not use this drive for backups. I use an external 1 TB WD My Book for backups as well as Super Duper Backups. Can anyone offer advice. Thanks.

You have got the "Backups.backupdb" folder in the root level of your hard drive. This is the folder used by Time Machine to save backups to, and the OS X Mavericks installer thought that your hard drive is being used to store Time Machine backups
To fix this, open a Finder window, select the Go menu (on the menu bar) > Go to Folder, and type:
Then, delete "Backups.backupdb" and empty the Trash. Finally, open the Mavericks installer from the Applications folder and follow the steps -
In trying to download itunes 11, I keep getting the message, verfiy that you have access to parental advisory. When I click yes it continually re tries but doesn`t load. Any ideas ???
Actual message
Error writing to file;C:\programs files(x86)\itunes.resourses\da.lproj\parentaladvisory.png. Verfiy that you have access to that directory.Sorry I can't help but I do get the same error. Previous versions of iTunes on Win XP machine ran fine. I have uninstalled, rebooted, and tried a new install but still get the same error. I can access the directory via Windows Explorer so not sure why the error says it can't access the directory.
