Time Machine eating my internet. Please help!
Greetings everyone!
Fact: I live in Africa and the internet here is limited and very expensive.
My setup: I have a Airport Extreme (latest generation). My internet is provided by Wimax through a GreenPacket DX-250 router. I have turned the wifi off on that router, and connected it to my Airport through LAN. My Airport is then responsabile for the wireless. To the Airport Extreme I have attached an externet HDD where I am backing up via Time Machine.
My problem: This setup is eating my internet usage. I looked online at the logs, and I see "NAS request" at odd times (2 am, 3 am etc), when I am obviously not uploading 100's of MB or even more. Somehow, Time Machine backups do count with my ISP.
I need your help. Do I have the wrong settings somewhere? What can I do? I would like to keep my Time Machine setup, because it is very convenient through wifi.
I appreciate your help!
Yes, I meant NAS request. I put it in DHCP+NAT mode in it is working ok. Moreover, last night I left the wimax router on, but disconnected the LAN cable going to the TC, just as you instructed me. This morning I check the logs and there are just a few bytes sent and received, obviously by the server.
What I believe is that the usage logs are kept on the router. Whenever the router is restarted, it connects with the server and updates how much internet I have left. Every night, Every day, after midnight, the server requests those logs automatically also. Last night I disconnected the cable at around 19:21 so no one could've used any internet whatsoever. The logs at 01:59 show 15 kilobytes received and 9 sent.
Thank you for your help!

Error: Error Domain=NSOSStatusErrorDomain Code=-50 "The operation couldn’t be completed. (OSStatus error -50.)" (paramErr: error in user parameter list) deleting backup: /Volumes/Time Machine Back
I tried to back it up the first time, and it was taking forever, so I stopped it, and then started a new backup. Can someone let me know what to do so I can be comfortable knowing the machine is definitely backed up?
Thanks! The indication that the backup completed successfully is the best evidence that it did. If you want something more explicit, you can proceed as below.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
sudo tmutil compare
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up.
The command will take at least a few minutes to run. Eventually some lines of output will appear below what you entered.
Each line that begins with a plus sign (“+”) represents a file that has been added to the source volume since the last snapshot was taken. These files have not been backed up yet.
Each line that begins with an exclamation point (“!”) represents a file that has changed on the source volume. These files have been backed up, but not in their present state.
Each line that begins with a minus sign (“-“) represents a file that has been removed from the source volume.
Files that you’ve excluded from backup, or that are excluded automatically, are ignored.
At the end of the output, you’ll get some lines like the following:
Added:
Removed:
Changed:
These lines show the total amount of data added, removed, or changed on the source(s) since the last snapshot. -
Time Machine Permissions Issue "fetching" Please help!
Hello,
I did a fresh install of Mavericks and have accessed my time machine many times since then. Tonight I tried to access it as usual, but all of a sudden I cannot access any files.
It says I don't have permission...nothing has changed!? "The folder “Pictures” can’t be opened because you don’t have permission to see its contents."
I have done ALOT of research, even on these forums, and have tired advice from Lych Davis (I think is his name), but it didn't work. The permission says "fetching".
I have tried to add me in the get info tab....Nothing shows up
I have tried to delete the "fetching" acount....It won't die
I went to my Users and Groups and my Group is, by default, set to "staff."
I tried to "verify disk" in Disk Utitlity..it didn't help.
Please help me...I have done NOTHING different, not even an OSX update since I accessed my TM a few days ago. Please help me.anyone???

Time Machine backup gets stuck - Please help
Hi all,
I'm backing up my MBP via ethernet to a Time Capsule. The incremental backups take forever and are driving me nuts. The backups seem to be getting stuck midway. The disk sounds like it's spinning but the progress bar doesn't move. Also, it seems to be copying over too many files every hour, like >60000 or so (log below). I doubt that so many files get modified every hour.
I've tried everything (I could think of and find on the discussion boards) like deleting the sparsebundle, deleting the entire backup drive, playing with the backup frequency, nothing works.
Please help!!
Thanks,
DB

Time Machine/Capsule Password stress-PLEASE HELP
I just bought a Time Capsule and am trying to set up my first back-up on Time Machine. The problem is that when I am prompted to enter my username and password to "access the file server", I plug the info in and it says that it's invalid! I went back and reset everything and checked all my username and password stuff and nothing works. I even re-started in "safe" mode and then started again and nothing. I would call into Mac Support but the iPhone 3G came out today and they are swamped with phone calls. Can anyone help me? I don't want to sit on the phone for hours on hold... :o(
Nope, it didn't change anything. I am getting really frustrated! Any other suggestions? I have also made sure that I am teh administrator on the computer and checked all my passwords and user names to be sure they are what they are supposed to be. sigh

Time machine cannot complete backups - please help
I hope somebody can help me - my Time Machine has been unable to complete backups for about six weeks or so.
Having read some useful information on the support forums yesterday, I verified both my internal HD and my external disk. The external disk appears fine, yesterday my internal disc needed some 'minor repairs'. I booted from the Leopard disk, but could not find where to repair disk so simply verified disk again and it was apparently fine.
I have verified both disks today and they are again fine. However when I try to back up I get this message:

This is not working for me. I tried the Windows 7 Resolution steps multiple times to no avail. Please help. I am obviously connected to the internet (as is iTunes Store).
I am connected to the internet through a Verizon Wireless card, that is my regular internet connection.I did all that HT1925 recommended and it was no help. My computer still won't recognize my iPhone. Often trying to start Apple Mobile Device Service fails with an error message that it starts and then stops immediately.

Installed YOSEMITE. Lost entire iPhoto Library on my iMac. Tried Apple's UPGRADER 6 times. No LUCK. Please help.
Your iPhoto library is usually kept in your pictures folder. Did you look there? If it is still there then you did lose your photos. Just need to get the iPhoto app at the latest level.

Open iTunes on computer. Connect iPhone to computer. If the iPhone is recognized in Recovery Mode, then Restore the Firmware. If not recognized, then hold both Home and Power Buttons until the iPhone is recognized in Recovery Mode. Usually takes about 20 seconds of holding both buttons. Restore the iPhone Firmware.
